Season Review 2028/29 (Season 5)

Sacked. It's all over. My first attempt at the Youth Academy Challenge was a fail. No promotions. No good youth intakes. 2 coaching badges in 5 years. We were predicted to finish 16th and after 20 of 38 matches, we found ourselves in 18th place, 6 points from safety and 12 points safe from automatic relegation. Ultimately the board decided to make a move whilst they could still salvage the season and that was that. I was gone.

My first attempt at this was a lot of fun and I learnt lots about how the game works and what to focus on. I already have an idea of my next save and can't wait to put into practice what i've learnt from this.

Season 32 - 2055/56 - VNLS

Absolutely dreadful season

Didn't even finish in the playoffs and ended up 9th

We were actually under pressure with the board when bottom of the league in the first few weeks

We stayed up, and even avoided a relegation battle! Excellent work by the young lads. We did get the occasional beating, losing 8-1 to Orlando Pirates when we had a small injury crisis was the worst, but overall we did pretty well. We also made a fair bit of money so I got to improve the club quite a bit, including improving the youth facilities. We did have to sell our best player, Richard Johnson 45a, to Italian giants Inter at the start of the season, but we handled it quite well. Now, we just have to continue stabilizing at this level before pushing on.

Nedbank Cup: We lost to Stellenbosch in the 1st round.
Telkom Knockout: The best part of the season was our amazing run in the Telkom Knockout. We beat TS Galaxy, Marumo Gallants, Cape Town Spurs, and eventually SuperSport United in the final to win it!

Looks like the Top half teams qualify for the promotion group and the bottom half don't, and once in the relegation group you stay there even if you have more points than teams in the Promotion group.  Are you using a custom database?

I would think that is normal, regardless of custom databases.

Hi,

Can someone please explain to me what an 'unplayable' team means? Is this just meaning a 'bad' team or something?

Also, has anyone attempted this challenge on FM24 Mobile Version? This is what I play.

Thanks.

No, it means a team promoted into the lowest tier possible that is not playable from the start. So you holiday a season and then take over a team that got promoted into, for example, the Vanarama South from the "unplayable" tiers below.

No clue if this is viable on mobile, sorry.

Thanks for clearing that up. I think I will just pick a team from Leauge 2 or Vanarama.. I am not attempting for the official challenge. Just some fun.

Things aren't going very well this season...

The board isn't very happy with our last place. Something i can understand. I'd be furious too if I invested 60M into a club and it looked like it was going down.

I'm confident i can right the ship if i can get the time. Get clear of relegation for sure. maybe even get back into the top half of the table. it's that close.

Olot UE Season Review (34/35)

League.

We're average! A good start to the season saw us competing for European football, but in the 2nd half of the season wins were far and between. We finish on a very respectable 11th place.

Olot_Y11_league_table.thumb.png.5347076518a95a4a84bdfde09da50c28.png

Copa del Rey

Because we made the final the previous season, we entered the Copa in the 3rd round. In the quarter finals we were unlucky to draw Barcelona. This was the closest to a non-lose we've ever come, so progress!

Olot_Y11_copa.thumb.png.4051df74781afba85b8e5194caa6a743.png

Super Cup

Apparently in Spain the super cup is played with 4 teams. As this was a mid-week game, I couldn't care less.

Youth Intake

An exciting intake with 6 elite talents. Personalities are also much improved. It would be nice to get the freak prospect, but I like the talents coming through.

Transfers

We lose another player because his release clause was too low. Ignacio Iglesias left for 27M to Sevilla. He's the second Wonderkid we lose.

NXGN

Another entry in the NXGN list. A bit surprised it's Jose Manuel. He's an incredible talent, but I'm bringing him along slowly. The game does seem to rate him.

Best XI

Again no player with an average rating above 7. We see a change in goal, with Jan Catala taking over. This is the tactic I experimented with early in the season, build around Alejandro as a shadow striker.

which would suggest yes?

But that's only one year from loading them up in 2036 so I dunno if it's good from the start or not

maybe not.... 2037/38 has no relegation/promotion and i just checked and La Paz are available from the start so

Excellent season! Won the league as well as two cups. The kids are playing great, and the team is developing too. We will lose our best player during the summer though, as Lesedi Memela 47a is leaving for Portugal for a massive sum.

Nedbank Cup: We beat Orlando Pirates before we lost to Golden Arrows in the 2nd round.
Telkom Knockout: We beat Swallows before we lost to TS Galaxy in the quarter final.
MTN 8: We beat Stellenbosch, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Marumo Gallants to claim the cup.

CAF Confederation Cup: So this is the 2nd string continental competition in Africa, think like the Europa League in Europe. So we beat Bo Rangers of Sierra Leone and Al-Hilal Omdurman of Sudan to reach the group stage. There we drew Raja Casablanca of Morocco, Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana, and Plateau Utd of Nigeria. We won all but one match and finished top of the group. We then beat Pyramids of Egypt and Raja Casablanca of Morocco again to reach the final. There we beat Asante Kotoko of Ghana over the two legs to win it!

South Africa Premier Soccer League 2037/28

League finish: 1st (CHALLENGE COMPLETE!!!!)

Champions League: semi-final

we did it! I had a feeling selling Tom Hardy and going back to a narrow 4-3-3 would do it. I always feel more confident with it and we seemed to be much more consistent as well. And so it proved! we started with 7 wins from the first 8 and never looked back, while Kaiser Chiefs finally imploded. We won the title with two games to go!

I quite fancied having a go at the pentagon challenge all in one save but I only loaded vanilla leagues and it doesn't look possible that way sadly. I've downloaded a few databases now so I might try from the next challenge maybe.

Anyway, England, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Japan and now South Africa done! I love this challenge!

Congrats @libbyshuss, nice one!!

Brora Rangers – Season 18 (2041/42)

League/Europe Won the domestic treble this year, and made the CL quarter finals for the first time, only to be outclassed by Barcelona.

spacer.png spacer.png spacer.png spacer.png

Players Not many youngsters coming through but youngster Alan Clark 14c (AMRLC) made a promising arrival as a squad player. We’re a bit heavy up-top in terms of young talent, I’m hoping for some defenders come through in the next few intakes.

spacer.png

Youth intake (preview) Absolutely awful personalities, and that’s after changing the HOYD. One player looks like he’ll make it, the rest - not so much.

spacer.png spacer.png spacer.png

Facilities We will move into our new stadium next year.

Transfers Nothing of note.

First time poster in this thread... coming in with my tail between my legs having just been sacked in my first YAC attempt. Started out in Denmark, which it turns out has an insanely difficult bottom tier (12 teams, 4 relegation slots!) and lost out on the final day having been neck and neck with three other teams :(

Rather than have this just be a sob story though, I'm wondering... how on earth do you succeed in this challenge?! I can sort of see how it could work once you have a half decent team and can get some momentum, but how do you get past the first few seasons while your young players develop? Any tips or insight from your saves would be amazing, as I would love to do this again but don't really want to keep making the same mistakes...

@Padders You are without question, the biggest inspiration anyone can have in this game.

Legend @DazRTaylor

However, does make me wonder why I am so bad? I see so many complete this challenge and even taking the **** by doing it over different continents.............

I've done this challenge since FM20 and only I takes decades to get anywhere? Why is that? Am I so bad at the game?

My underlying feeling is reality, taking a VNLS/N teams to PL and CL glory is going to take decades IRL!

I love the story...................................................................

a lot of patience! getting the sack is way more common than completing it, especially those first couple of seasons. I once went 28 games, losing 27 of them, before I got the sack in my first season! no patience at Enfield Town..... I only stuck it out to see how far they'd let me go before putting me out of my misery.

The other thing that really helps is luck - getting a half decent starting squad, a half decent intake for the first couple of years, a nice cup run, stuff like that. Then having a nice board that will give you the facility improvements you need. At lower levels I've found those small differences in youth recruitment can make a huge difference to intake, particularly in England.

Also - always add on sell on fees when you sell any player if you can, and always add an optional extension clause to new contracts when you can as well.

it's a really addictive challenge though, i can't play any other way now. good luck!

After doing this challenge in loads of different countries, I have found getting out the VNLS/N is by far the most difficult challenge of all. Most of us don't have your patience and jack it in after a handful of seasons floating around seemingly getting nowhere.

Well, I’ve never completed it.  I’ve taken two teams to the Premier League but that’s it.

You are also the only one to go decades without getting sacked, so you could read it either way. Very invested in your save, though, so I am wishing you the best of luck!

Europe is hard, and I think England is the hardest tbh, so you've not set yourself up for success by trying it there! I've failed England so many times before, so where you go really make a difference!

That said, I've done it in two custom countries as well as South Africa which is the best nation in Africa in the game. I really doubt I'll have it easy when I move to Europe.

This challenge is all about the journey rather than the end goal. Most of us who play here have a fail rate that far outweigh the success. Before FM24 I had a grand total of 1 completion and I usually end on betwen 1k and 2k hours for each version. I don't play anything else than this, really, and haven't since about FM14, so I had 1 completion in about 20k hours before FM24. For some reason FM24 is much kinder to my tactic (yes, I've used mostly the same one since FM17), and that's part of why I'm completing it this year, I think.

Yes agree getting out of non league is toughest

If you can do that then you can progress

Didn't complete it in FM23 or FM 22

Hoping to do it in FM24
