SI Staff Dean Gripton Posted December 1, 2023 SI Staff Share Posted December 1, 2023 Very much enjoyed reading through this thread over the last few evenings, and delighted to see that you are enjoying yourself. It was hard to keep up with the size of your squad. May I request that, in your monthly updates, you include some screenshots of the Squad Planner? That would help us see the depth you have and the choices you have available. Just a thought. Looking forward to seeing how you progress.

May I request that, in your monthly updates, you include some screenshots of the Squad Planner? That would help us see the depth you have and the choices you have available. Just a thought. Well the good news is that I've realised my squad was way too big last season and I'm aiming to have a much reduced squad size this coming season. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look for ways to include the squad planner more with future updates. 57 minutes ago, Dean Gripton said: Looking forward to seeing how you progress. Cheers. Stuniverse
Episode 15 - Pre-season looming | "Pre-Pre-Season Meeting" -- Ahead of the players reporting back on Monday, this weekend had been booked for meetings with my Chairperson Petter Bjerke and my backroom staff. Our press officer, Isabel Rikstad, had given me a heads-up about Loddefjord's stature in the footballing world. And yes, Isabel, I will take that with a pinch of salt. -- Board Expectations Which is interesting because last season the Board's projected expectation for the 2024 season was Avoid relegation, then it changed to Top-half finish, when last season ended, and Petter Bjerke tells me it's now reverted back to Avoid relegation again. -- Season Preview Last season, Bjarg won the Norsk Tipping-ligaen Avdeling 3 and were promoted while Bremnes, Stord and Vidar were relegated. This season the Norsk Tipping-ligaen Avdeling 3 contains three relegated teams in Sotra, Ullern and Valerenga 2, and only one promoted team in Drobak-Frogn which, on paper at least, suggests that this season's Norsk Tipping-ligaen Avdeling 3 will be more competitive and difficult than last season. The media prediction is for Loddefjord to finish 10th, one place higher than last season. -- Supporter Confidence -- As a reminder, here's how the Norsk Tipping-ligaen Avdeling 3 division finished last season: Edited December 1, 2023 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Episode 15 - Pre-season looming | "Trialists" Backroom Staff Meeting (continued) -- We go into this pre-season looking to improve up top as we haven't really replaced Joachim Westrheim. I'm also looking to improve the defence in all areas across the backline and, maybe, in the goalkeeping department as well. With that in mind, I asked my backroom staff for free agent recommendations we could bring in on trial in those positions and this is who they came up with: We've invited them all to join us for training at the Alvoen Stadion on Monday and go on trial with us for four weeks. We'll find out on Monday which players will accept our offer and join us for training. -- New Player imminent We're delighted that Hans-Martin Michaelsen has agreed to sign for Loddefjord and will be joining us for pre-season on Monday. It will be interesting to see Hans-Martin in action so that we can decide whether he'll play as a striker or out wide for us. Spoiler -- Next up on our Agenda is to discuss our squad from last season and agree which players we want joining us in training next week and which players we're going to release. Stuniverse
Episode 15 - Pre-season looming | "Squad Review" You're my vice-captain, act like it! -- My Backroom Staff and I are about to discuss the first team squad, talking about them behind their backs, and deciding which players we want to be part of Loddefjord's 2024 campaign and which players we are going to let go. One player I wasn't prepared to debate with my backroom staff though was my vice-captain Steven Cardoso. In case you don't remember, whilst Steven wasn't the ring-leader, he was one of five players who tried to start a mutiny against me with only five matches of last season remaining. I really expected better and to have more support from my vice-captain. On 28/11/2023 at 19:34, Stuniverse said: Episode 11 - September 2023 | "Mutiny! This won’t end well" -- -- -- -- -- -- I didn't overreact at the time, although I felt let down and was very disappointed, but I let it go as the focus was the remaining five matches of the season and staying up. The players did, eventually come round, and the ring-leader Marius Bildoy did apologise to me, but I still felt my vice-captain should have been more supportive, or at least spoken to me directly, not join a group of five mutinous players and then hide behind the ring-leader. So, despite playing 15 times for us last season, mainly as left-back but occasionally up front, providing two assists and averaging 6.60... ... I'm going to release Steven Cardoso. Stuniverse
Episode 15 - Pre-season looming | "Squad Review" Goalkeepers -- All four of our goalkeepers were new signings last season. Kristoffer Haugen Duesund started the season as our #1 goalkeeper but Kalle Kohonen took the gloves off him when we signed him during the mid-season (summer) break. I've noticed that Kristoffer has been getting more and more unhappy with his lack of playing time, and he was also part of the mutinous five, but so far he hasn't complained about his playing time even though I've been expecting it. If the opportunity arises to improve our goalkeeper, I'd take it, but Kalle was brilliant during our end-of-season run-in and I'd be happy to start the season with him still as first choice. My backroom staff would like me to release Tobias Mosbron (as they only think he'll improve to two stars) but as he's happy to be Emergency Backup, I'm happy to keep him around for now. As far as the U19s are concerned, I'm not sure either of the young goalkeepers are going to be good enough for our first team... but you never know.
Stuniverse
Episode 15 - Pre-season looming | "Squad Review" Right-backs -- Right-back is an area I definitely think we need to improve on this season. Stian Andersen started the season for us and, to be fair, did ok making 16 appearances, averaging 6.77 with three assists but, by the end of the season, Stian was struggling to make the matchday squad. Jakob Okkels finished the season competing with Hans Hansen for the right-back spot. I really see Jakob as a back-up, and he's happy to be a squad player, whereas Hans is better in midfield, either centrally or wide-right, so I don't see him as a long-term solution at right-back. We didn't see much of Vetle Rodje due to calf and ankle injuries but I don't think he's going to be the Star Player for us that he wants to be. So we've decided to release Vetle and, reluctantly, Stian as well. We've called Thomas Granli up from the U19s so that we can take a look at him in pre-season but I don't think he's ready for first team football yet. Stuniverse
Episode 15 - Pre-season looming | "Squad Review" Left-backs -- I'm not overly concerned about left-back at the moment as Tuure Mantynen joined later in the season and made the left-back position his own and Andreas Stole-Hansen was a more than adequate back-up who has a lot of potential to improve (my backroom staff think up to 4.5 stars potentially). The only problem I can foresee is that I won't be able to provide both Tuure and Andreas the playing time they want so at least one of them is likely to become unhappy as the season progresses. Mikkel Erlandsen, another one of the mutinous five, is a midfielder really but can cover at left-back if required. We've called Sivert Hansson up from the U19s to take a look at him during pre-season but I suspect he isn't ready for first team football yet. There is an issue with Tuure Mantynen as he is publicly saying he's playing in a weak role and I have no idea what he means by that. He also opposes me currently. -- For now, we won't be releasing any left-backs but it does have a high risk of becoming a problem area for us during the season. Stuniverse
Episode 15 - Pre-season looming | "Squad Review" Centre-backs -- I'm thinking we'll start the season playing the 4-1-2-3 system we finished last season with, but I'll probably need more than four or five centre-backs in case we need to revert back to the 5-2-3 system we used quite a bit last season. At the moment, we only have two right-footed centre-backs and three left-footed centre-backs so it's not only a position I feel we need to strengthen, we also need to add numbers as well. Sebastian Rasmussen is my captain and Harvey Cullinan can now speak basic Norwegian which is going to make life easier for him and us. U19 player Jan Erland Rosenbaum will be training with the first team in pre-season to make up the numbers at this stage.
Stuniverse
Episode 15 - Pre-season looming | "Squad Review" Defensive midfielders -- Defensive midfield is a relatively new position for us as I only started playing it when we changed to 4-1-2-3 during the end-of-season run-in. Consequently, it's an area I feel we need to improve on and strengthen. Elias El Moustage played that position for us and did well (and he has 4.5 star potential ability according to my backroom staff). Mikkel Erlandsen is the back-up (he has 4.0 star potential ability) but he was also one of the mutinous five. Jorgan Sebaster Rodal, Henrik Maslo Dunsby and Benjamin Heikanen are all happy to be fringe players so I'm happy to keep them around, particularly as Benjamin and Henrik are needed to provide centre-back cover right now. -- Not only was Mikkel Erlandsen one of the mutinous five, he also has other issues with me, After a lot of discussion, we've decided to release Mikkel Erlandsen. Stuniverse
Episode 15 - Pre-season looming | "Squad Review" Central midfielders -- I feel we are well-blessed in central midfield right now, with a lot of good young players, all of whom have the ability to improve. The problem is likely to be keeping them all happy. According to my backroom staff, potential ability is: 4.5 stars - Elias El Moustage, Hans Hansen, Sander Wik, Yafet Estifanos 4.0 stars - Jorgan Sebaster Rodel, Thomas Lotsberg. -- It was a tough call because we like Yafet Estifanos, and he has done well for us, but he lost his place in the first team to Elias, Sander and Thomas when they arrived mid-season and we also really like Hans so we think we'll struggle to give Yafet the playing time he wants and as he expects to be a Star Player, he's likely to become unhappy. Plus, Yafet was one of the mutinous five. Sadly, reluctantly and with regret, we decided to release Yafet Estifanos. Stuniverse
Episode 15 - Pre-season looming | "Squad Review" Wide Attacking Forwards / Midfielders -- We also feel like we are well-blessed in the attacking wide areas of the pitch. Marius Bildoy is, arguably, our best player and, despite him being the mutinous ring-leader, he did apologise to me a few weeks later. We're inclined, at this point, to give him the benefit of the doubt and a second chance. A lot of the young, wide players have a lot of potential. According to my backroom staff, potential ability is: 4.5 stars - David George, Hassan Elsayed 4.0 stars - Frederik Brandt Jorgensen, Hans-Martin Michaelsen, Lars-Christian Moldestad 3.0 stars - Tobias Angelveit 2.5 stars - Asgeir Islann Lothe. -- We've decided to release Asgeir Islann Lothe. Also, we're seriously considering offering Marius Bildoy a paid, part-time contract. Edited December 2, 2023 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse
Episode 15 - Pre-season looming | "Squad Review" Strikers -- Up front we feel we need to improve and add quality. We were unable to satisfactorily replace our captain, Joachim Westrheim, who left us in the summer transfer window to join Norsk Tipping-ligaen Avdeling 3 champions Bjarg. Spoiler -- Thomas Junge finished the season as our starting striker (with Marius Bildoy playing wide right) but Thomas only scored two goals, with one assist in 10 appearances, averaging 6.86. -- We decided to release Tobias Asbo as there's simply too much competition for one starting place and we don't think Tobias will improve enough to become a first team player.
