Stuniverse
Preview Gjøvik-Lyn (Tier 3) v Viking (Tier 1) Norgesmesterskapet i fotball (Cupen First Round) -- Although I was cagey with Dagbladet, we will be making plenty of changes to the team to rest our key players ahead of our home game against Eliteserien leaders Vålerenga at the weekend. -- -- Expected Line-up We're not disrespecting Norgesmesterskapet i fotball, or underestimating Gjøvik-Lyn, but I believe the team selected are good enough to progress to the next round.
Stuniverse
Wednesday 23rd May 2029 Gjøvik-Lyn (Tier 3) v Viking (Tier 1) Norgesmesterskapet i fotball (Cupen First Round) -- I've made 10 changes today with Edvin Austbo the only player starting who started the Lillestrøm match last time out. -- -- -- I know I made a whole raft of changes but I had full confidence in the team selected to get us through to the next round... which they did. Gjøvik-Lyn started the game very brightly, as you'd expect from an underdog with home advantage, and they made it very difficult for us in the first 15-20 minutes but, as the match wore on, we got a foothold in the game and started to show our quality. Zak Brown picked up a yellow card early in the second-half so we replaced him with our captain David Brekalo. David had a calming influence and we were 3-0 up going into added-on time. With nothing to lose, Gjøvik-Lyn threw everything at us and we looked tired, understandably as most of the Viking players out there haven't played much this season, and they pulled a goal back. We then got very nervous and conceded another. But we held on for a 3-2 win. Herman Geelmuyden's half-volley into the roof of the net, from outside the penalty area, is right up there as one of the best goals I've seen during my time as Viking manager. On another day, Herman would've had a hat-trick as he twice rattled the bar. --

Stuniverse
Episode 84 - 26th May 2029 | Cupen Defence Begins "I'm not impressed. Not impressed at all." -- Brown Missing From Training Spoiler I'm not impressed. I'm not impressed at all. I did think about terminating Zak's loan and sending him back to Chelsea but... ... I couldn't do that even if I'd wanted to. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To be fair, I've not seen this before. The nightclub bit, I mean, I've had unhappy players miss training before. I guess it's because Zak Brown is a newgen. Thanks, @warlock 13 hours ago, warlock said: I think, maybe, there's a rule about not being able to terminate international loans so you might be stuck with him. It certainly looks like there’s some reason why I can’t terminate his loan at the moment. I’m not completely sure I would’ve sent him back but it would’ve been nice to have the option. 13 hours ago, warlock said: I'd stick him in the reserves and hope Chelsea recall him. Well it’s Eliteserien leaders Valerenga next up and I’m definitely going to leave him out of the matchday squad for that big match. After that, we’ll see… Zak Brown is definitely in the last chance saloon with me now. Chelsea may well recall him, they are expecting him to be a regular starter but, even without the nightclub incident, his on pitch performances don’t warrant that. Captain David Brekalo, vice captain Valerly Bondar and Isak Amundsen are definitely above him in the pecking order right now. Stuniverse
Episode 84 - 28th May 2029 | Cupen Defence Begins "Brown or Print-Eckbo?" -- I haven't completely ostracised Zak Brown but he won't be anywhere near the matchday squad for today's BIG game against Vålerenga. Spoiler -- The question is, do I stick with him and give him a second chance or do I go with the best young central-defender I have at Viking instead? I did give Joachim Print-Eckbo some game time in pre-season and he did ok but my coaches don't particularly rate him long-term. That's why, we ultimately decided against promoting him to the first team squad and looked at bringing someone else in - Zak Brown, as it turned out. Stuniverse
Preview Viking (3rd) v Vålerenga (1st) Eliteserien -- Vålerenga are on fire this season, winning seven of their eight Eliteserien matches so far. They are unbeaten so far and Sogndal (8th) are the only team to have taken a point off them. It would be amazing if we could become the first team to beat Vålerenga this season but we know it's not going to be easy. And we've picked up a couple of niggles in training this week that won't help. -- Expected Line-up
Stuniverse
Monday 28th May 2029 Viking (3rd) v Vålerenga (1st) Eliteserien -- Yesterday's Result -- El Hadji Malick Diouf is very unlucky to miss out but I think, for this match against Vålerenga, having a back-four of natural centre-backs would give us more defensive solidity. This will probably be our most difficult game of the season so far. Even at home, we know Vålerenga are going to be very tough to play against... hopefully, the Viking fans in a sold-out SR-Bank Arena can give us a lift. -- -- The atmosphere inside the SR-Bank Arena today was something else. It was electric, the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up. I think we helped, by scoring after only 50 seconds, but the 15,500 Viking fans in a SR-Bank Arena crowd of 16,300 made so much noise it was unbelievably loud. We were good value for the win I believe. The referee awarded Vålerenga a harsh, in my opinion, penalty that saw them level after 25 minutes. But we never stopped believing and had regained the lead by half-time. After the break, I thought we managed the game superbly, backed by our de mørkeblå fans who never stopped chanting the whole game. This one's for the Viking supporters. Enjoy it! -- Edited March 14 by Stuniverse

Hootieleece
Nice work putting yourself into title contention. Zak Brown and the Night Club bit. I've seen it several times in this FM. Stuniverse
Preview Ullern (Tier 4) v Viking (Tier 1) Norgesmesterskapet i fotball (Cupen Second Round) -- -- -- Expected Line-up I'll be making a lot of changes today. I'm not being disrespectful to Ullern, or Cupen, as I have confidence in the team I'm selecting to progress to the next round. This would've been a game where Zak Brown would've started but, he's still in our bad books after missing training following a nightclub visit, so young Joachim Prent-Eckbo gets a start instead. Stuniverse
Thursday 31st May 2029 Ullern (Tier 4) v Viking (Tier 1) Norgesmesterskapet i fotball (Cupen Second Round) -- -- -- Ullern are a team in form in their division, scoring goals for fun, and they came at us right from the off as we expected from the underdogs cheered on by their own fans. To be fair, whilst there wasn't much in it, Ullern were giving us as good as they were getting and they took the lead after 27 minutes. I got a bit agitated on the touchline and, I'll admit, I may have lost it a bit but, whatever, my players responded and a minute later it was 1-1. After that, I felt we weren't really troubled and deserved our 4-1 victory in the end. --

When Åsane equalised at 1-1 it was against the run of play. I thought we were in control before the reckless two-footed lunge on Lasse Berg Johnsen. The red card was more than deserved as Lasse was fortunate not to be seriously injured. After the sending off, there was only one team in it. Stuniverse
Wednesday 27th June 2029 Viking (Tier 1) v Sogndal (Tier 1) Norgesmesterskapet i fotball (Cupen Fourth Round) -- -- -- Oh boy, what a game that was. I'm not sure how we got through, but we did, and our fans deserve huge credit as they were amazing, lifting the players during adversity. We started brightly and were ahead through a penalty inside five minutes. But on nine minutes the match changed when Lasse Berg Johnsen was shown a straight red card. My assistant Egil Ulfstein and I disagree on this. Egil thought the red was deserved, I thought it was extremely harsh, barely deserving a yellow. I'm going to appeal it. Down to 10-men we made changes. Sogndal equalised on 24 minutes but we stuck with our new shape until the break. We switched things around for the second-half. We got through 90 minutes at 1-1 which, with tired legs, was amazing. Things weren't looking good going into extra-time as our players were out on their feet, they'd worked so hard. Incredibly we went 2-1 up in the first period, but we couldn't see it through and Sogndal equalised in the second period to take it to penalties. There were some good penalties and some terrible penalties but, fortunately, we won the shootout lottery and are through to the quarter final. -- Edited March 14 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Sunday 1st July 2029 Viking (2nd) v Rosenborg (12th) Eliteserien -- -- -- For a long time it looked like this was going to be one of those games where things just didn't go our way. We thought Yorbe Vertessen had given us a 10th minute lead but VAR chalked it off for offside. Then the referee awarded Rosenborg a penalty that looked harsh to me. VAR checked it and the penalty stood. Patrik Sigurður Gunnarsson magnificently saved it but, from the resulting corner, we cleared the ball to the edge of the penalty area where Erlend Dahl Reiten thundered in a volley. We changed from a Positive to an Attacking mentality during the interval only for Max Fenger, a player we had on trial, to double Rosenborg's lead two minutes after the restart. We made some changes and goals in the 66th (Gaetano Oristanio) and 78th (Edvin Austbo) minutes saw us salvage a draw. Overall, we created a lot more chances than Rosenborg but they were ruthless in front of goal. Yorbe Vertessen had the chance to win it for us late on but his shot went narrowly wide. -- Edited March 14 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Sunday 8th July 2029 Molde (7th) v Viking (4th) Eliteserien -- -- -- I know Molde are a bit off the pace this season, but they are still a very capable side, so to come here, to Aker Stadion, home of the reigning Elitesereien Champions, and score six goals is something special. I'm so proud of my players. And it should've been seven. I know we had a couple of players in offside positions but they didn't touch the ball, El Hadji Malick Diouf was onside, he's the one who received the ball and scored, and I think his goal should've stood. I used the opportunity second-half to give gametime to players who have been on the periphery, so to speak, so far this season. Defensively we got a bit careless and let them score two soft goals but, overall, this was a fantastic performance. There were 293 Viking fans here, I believe, and we're thrilled we could send them home with great big grins on their faces. --
