Stuniverse Posted July 28 Author Share Posted July 28 (edited) Preview - Skeid (away) Eliteserien -- -- We've not played Skeid much during my time at Viking but, for whatever reason, we do have a very good record against them. Ruben Hetlevik has only managed Skeid against us once, and that was in our 3-2 home victory earlier this season in the SR-Bank Arena. I'm not sure to be honest. Skeid are playing very well under Ruben Hetlevik and are currently 5th in Eliteserien. We know this is going to be a very difficult match in their Ullern CC Vest Arena. Skeid currently have two of our players on loan. Dawid Zając, who we thought about recalling following the sale of Niklas Ødegård to FC København and Brede Norbye. Both have been getting a lot of game time and playing very well. It will be interesting to see how they do against us, assuming Ruben Hetlevik selects them. Spoiler We pretty much have a clean bill of health at the moment and it's not often I get to say that. -- Expected Line-up I've had a quiet word with Mathias Fjørtoft Løvik and Ove Benjamin Modell about their recent form. It's the media who talk about mind games, I simply answer the questions I'm asked in press conferences like this. I thought we were good value for our win today. Costel Tilincă returned from suspension, wore the armband, and was a constant thorn in Skeid's side down the left wing. Henrik Skogvold scored the only goal of the game after 10 minutes following good work by Costel Tilincă. Tell me about it. Bill Freeman hit the post with a direct free-kick after half an hour. On 47 minutes, Lasse Nordås hit the post. Sindre left in January 2033 to join Spezia, where he won three senior caps for Norway, but found the grass wasn't greener and I'm delighted Sindre has decided to return to Norway and commit his future to Viking. Stuniverse Posted July 28 Author Share Posted July 28 Preview - Sogndal (home) Eliteserien -- -- Generally we've had a good record against Sogndal during my time here at Viking but we haven't won in the last three and it was goalless at Fosshaugane Campus earlier this season. With our supporters roaring us on in our SR-Bank Arena today we're confident of getting a result. We work incredibly hard in training and if the opposition haven't got the ball they can't hurt you. I've said it many times but this squad of players are a pleasure to work with. They work so hard on the training ground and this season, particularly, they've taken their excellent training performances out onto the pitch. This group of players truly deserve success and I hope they can carry it through for the remaining 10 games of the season. Sindre Grønvold knows Viking Fotballklubb like the back-of-his-hand. Sindre wanted to return here and I'm delighted by that. Sindre knows he'll be a fringe player, at least to begin with, but he's happy to help us out in any way he can. As he's not had chance to train with us yet, Sindre's not in the matchday squad today... but his time will come. Our medical team have been putting their feet up. I'm delighted. Our previous two matches against Sogndal have ended goalless and we know what to expect from Tore André Flo's Sogndal. Tore André Flo has Sogndal very well organised, they make it very difficult to break them down, they don't score many, but they don't concede many either. And the first half was exactly that. Very few chances for either side and goalless at the break. So we went with an Attacking mentality and a slightly more Attacking shape at the start of the second half. And eight minutes after the restart, Bill Freeman crossed to the far post and Henrik Skogvold broke the deadlock with a header. We then changed back to our normal Positive mentality and shape. On 78 minutes, Bill Freeman doubled our lead with a shot that went in off the post. We then made four substitutions, including taking off both centre-backs who are one yellow card away from a suspension. Sogndal had to see added-on time out with 10-players after they lost Richard Evans to injury after they'd made all their substitutions. Costel Tilincă made it 3-0, smashing the ball into the roof of the net from just inside the penalty area on 90+2. Two minutes after that, Mamady Diambou scored our fourth with a close range effort that went in off the post. We're unbeaten in our last 17 Eliteserien matches, we have an 11 point lead at the top with only nine games to play, although Molde can cut that to eight if they beat Skeid this evening. Stuniverse Posted July 28 Author Share Posted July 28 Monday 28th August 2034 Viking Recall Norbye -- Spoiler We've decided to recall Brede Norbye from his very successful loan spell at Skeid. With the sale of Miroslav Marchev to Al-Fateh and Rafael Mota's loan move to Boavista, we've found ourselves short of ball-winning midfield options in the squad. Against Sogndal, we wanted to take Daniel Daga off late on because he was one yellow card away from a suspension but I didn't really have anybody after I'd also subbed off the two centre-backs for the same reason. So we had to leave Daniel on and, wouldn't you know it, he picked up a yellow card and will now miss the Lillestrøm match with suspension. We do have a good record against Lillestrøm and won 4-2 at our SR-Bank Arena earlier this season. But those games are all in the past now and will have no bearing on this one. Lillestrøm have only won one of their last seven, drawing two and losing four, so I know they'll be trying everything to beat us in their Åråsen Stadion. It's up to us to do our best to get the win ourselves. The Cupen Semi Final against Bodø/Glimt isn't until Thursday so we'll worry about that after the Lillestrøm match. Stuniverse Posted July 28 Author Share Posted July 28 Sunday 3rd September 2034 Lillestrøm (9th) v Viking (1st) Eliteserien -- -- -- We got a draw today against a Lillestrøm team who made it very difficult for us. Jesper Robertsen gave us a 5th minute lead with a shot that took a wicked deflection on its way into the net. But in a game of very few chances, for either side, we weren't able to add to that. Storm Bugge Pettersen always seems to do well against us but we should have defended Lillestrøm's equaliser much better. They hit a long ball over the top, Storm Bugge Pettersen chased it, our goalkeeper Hans Jørgen Solberg charged out, but he didn't get there and Storm Bugge Pettersen chested a bouncing ball past our goalkeeper, ran onto it, and rolled it into an empty net. It was a poor goal to concede. We changed our shape and went Attacking after that but neither team really created any clear cut chances. The closest we came was when Joakim Berg Nundal headed Jesper Robertsen's cross against the bar in the 84th minute. It's been an up and down season for Bodø/Glimt, but they're currently on the up again after winning four on the spin, including a thumping 3-0 victory over Vålerenga. We beat Bodø/Glimt 2-0 earlier in the season in our SR-Bank Arena but we know this'll be much tougher in Aspmyra with their fans behind them. Having lifted the Norgesmesterskapet i fotball (Cupen) Trophy last season, we'd love to retain it... but that's a very difficult thing to do and not many teams achieve that. Spoiler Henrique Araújo is a very good player and one we have looked to sign on a couple of occasions. Of course, one Bodø/Glimt player we know all about is Oscar Bobb who we recently allowed to go to them on loan. Spoiler Unfortunately, Ove Benjamin Modell picked up an injury in training and will be out a few weeks. Anders came on in the 54th minute and his two goals, the second a spectacular volley, took the game away from Bodø/Glimt. Mathias Fjørtoft Løvik was magnificent today with assists for our first two goals and the third came from his corner. Mathias wasn't the only one though, I thought the whole team was magnificent today. We're thrilled because this was not an easy game for us. I know people will look at the three goal winning margin and think comfortable win for Viking, but it was anything but... Bodø/Glimt pushed us all the way and the score line, I'll admit, does flatter us somewhat. Three minutes in and Bodø/Glimt's Henrique Araújo hit a shot narrowly wide. A minute later, at the other end, Henrik Skogvold headed a Jesper Robertsen cross against the post. On 14 minutes, Bodø/Glimt's goalkeeper Rasmus Olesen made a brilliant low save on the line to keep out Lasse Nordås's header. On 20 minutes, after Aleksander Liland had clattered Tiago Morais in the penalty area, Jasper Torkildsen flung himself to his left and brilliantly tipped Henrique Araújo's spot kick around the post. We scored first, after 35 minutes, when Lasse Nordås leapt highest at the far post to head home Mathias Fjørtoft Løvik's corner. After that, we issued specific instructions to try and contain Henrique Araújo and Tiago Morais who were causing us all sorts of problems. We took Tinius Sundell off at half-time because he was on a yellow card. 53 minutes in and we replaced Henrik Skogvold, who was off it today, with Anders Hartveit Ryste and sent Bill Freeman out wide. On 70 minutes we made a few substitutions. We were never comfortable in this game, Bodø/Glimt were a constant threat and Henrique Araújo escaped our defence and shot into the side netting. Mamady Diambou was out on his feet so we made our final substitution. On 73 minutes, Anders Hartveit Ryste doubled our lead and then scored again after 80 minutes. Thanks. We lifted the trophy last season against Lillestrøm but lost to Molde the previous season. This will be my fifth Norgesmesterskapet i fotball (Cupen) Final and, hopefully, we can make it three Cupen Final victories when we face Fredrikstad in December. If we can, it'll be all the more special because Fredrikstad beat us on penalties in the 2029 Norgesmesterskapet i fotball (Cupen) Final. I get on really well with Kjell Fjæreide, he's a very supportive chairperson and he stuck with me last season when other chairperson's may have been quick to panic. Sandnes Ulf were predicted to finish 12th and they're flying high in 5th and they deserve to be there on merit. I'm not surprised, no, we saw first-hand how good Sandnes Ulf are earlier this season when we drew with them in their Øster Hus Arena. Yes. I'd rather be in our position than Molde's. We've been outstanding in 21 of our 22 Eliteserien matches so far this season and now we just have to hold it together for eight more Eliteserien matches. I have a lot of time for Daniel Gjerde Sætren and I hope to catch-up with him at some point today. Spoiler The fixtures are coming thick and fast now and we do have some tired legs in the group. We'll be short of centre-backs on the bench because Costel Tilincă and Jan Rune Hansen are both suspended and Ove Benjamin Modell remains injured. -- Expected Line-up I had to have a word with Bork Bang-Kittilsen about his lack of effort in training. Stuniverse Posted July 29 Author Share Posted July 29 (edited) Sunday 10th September 2034 Viking (1st) v Sandnes Ulf (5th) Eliteserien -- -- -- -- Sandnes Ulf gave us a very difficult game, as we knew they would, and we needed a late equaliser, with the help of VAR overruling the referee and his assistant, to salvage a draw at the end. There were some very tired legs out there and it was a sickener when Sandnes Ulf grabbed a 67th minute lead but we should have done more to cut out their low cross from the right wing (our left) and we should've got to the ball before Jørn Nygaard Klausen. When the opposition tap-in from only a few yards out you know you should've defended it better. After almost 70 minutes, I didn't feel we deserved to be behind, but we were. We had the better of the first half and two minutes into added on time at the end of the first half, Bill Freeman seized on hesitation in the Sandnes Ulf defence, chipped the ball over Daniel Gjerde Sætren, only for the ball to hit the inside of the post and bounce back into Daniel's grateful arms. At half-time we had two players on yellow cards. We replaced Edvin Austbø but we had to tell Aleksander Liland to ease off tackles because we had no centre-backs on the bench due to injury and suspensions. Ten minutes into the second half we replaced Anders Hartveit Ryste as a precaution after he took a knock to his ankle. On 59 minutes, Sandnes Ulf headed a free-kick against our bar and we had to scramble the rebound clear. After an hour, we made some slight changes to our shape and went with more of an Attacking mentality. Only for Sandnes Ulf to grab the lead on 67 minutes with a soft goal that we should've prevented. Going into the final 10 minutes, we pushed Henrik Skogvold up to play as a third striker, went more direct and crossed our fingers... Four minutes later, Henrik Skogvold equalised, but the on-field officials initially disallowed the goal for offside but, fortunately for us, VAR overruled them and we were level. With Hans Jørgen Solberg as well, I'm fortunate to have two very good goalkeepers at Viking. Yes, absolutely. We never looked in trouble today as we completely outplayed AZ Alkmaar in all areas. We were 2-0 up after 10 minutes. 3-0 up after 18 minutes. And two second half goals made it a very comfortable evening for us. When this squad click, and everybody is on their game, we play some scintillating football. Stuniverse Posted July 29 Author Share Posted July 29 Saturday 17th September 2034 Brann (15th) v Viking (1st) Eliteserien - Best i vest derby -- -- -- This was quite a Best i vest derby and Brann certainly gave a good account of themselves and made it difficult for us. Brann were a credit to manager Andreas Alm and, when they play like that, it's difficult to understand why they are second bottom. We were 1-0 up after 35 minutes but Brann equalised five minutes later, through a penalty needlessly conceded by Jan Rune Hansen.. On 67 minutes we changed to a more Attacking mentality. Edvin Austbø has come up through the Viking Academy so he knows all about the Best i vest derby against Brann. On 75 minutes, Edvin calmly converted a penalty and we had our noses in front. We went back to our normal shape then with substitutes Sindre Grønvold, and youngsters Øyvind Bekkevold and Brede Norbye on. But we could only hold the lead for a couple of minutes before it was all square again. We went back to our Attacking shape and mentality. Edvin Austbø scored again on 79 minutes to restore our lead and this time we kept Attacking. Julian Gonstad made it four, before Edvin Austbø completed his hat-trick with his second penalty goal. Edvin Austbø has been brilliant all season but he was on a whole new level today. Union Berlin's 2-0 home victory over FC Bayern was a fantastic result for them. We've not played Union Berlin before during my time here at Viking so we'll see how the game goes. -- Expected Line-up With an International break coming up after this match, I don't need to worry about rotating or resting players today. We hit the woodwork twice in the first 10 minutes. We were 2-0 up by half time and scored a third in the second half. Costel Tilincă was also an unused substitute for Romania. I feel for Viking's Hans Jørgen Solberg. When PSG's Kim Christian Høyenhall was injured against Italy, Hans Jørgen Solberg came on as a 69th minute substitute and we were all expecting him to start against Romania today. Instead, Kjetil Knutsen called up Tottenham Hotspur's Kristoffer Klaesson, who wasn't in the original squad, and gave him the gloves for Romania ahead of both Viking goalkeepers in the Norway squad. Sarpsborg are in a relegation battle so they'll be fighting for every point they can gert. We did and they did a lot of travelling as well as being involved in two or three international matches. Today it might be a case of picking our fittest players who are less tired than the others.
