nico_france
Welcome to The Olympique de Marseille thread 2024 Founded in 1899, the club plays in our beloved "farmers league" and have spent most of their history in the top tier of French Football . The club has won ten Ligue 1 titles, ten Coupe de France and three Coupe de la Ligue. In 1993, belgian coach Raymond Goethals led the team to become the first and only French club to win the UEFA Champions League, defeating Milan 1–0 in the final, the first under the UEFA Champions League branding of the tournament. In 2010, Marseille won its first Ligue 1 title in 18 years under the management of former club captain and France icon Didier Deschamps. 13 years without any titles is far too much for such a club After a complicated summer where Marcelino was in charge for 2 months, you now inherited Gattuso's fighting spirit among your ranks, would you be good enough to match the club objectives ? Stadium If you take in charge Marseille you will discover the wonderful Stade Velodrome, fully renovated in 2014, you now have a breath taking place of 67.354 fans which are going to help you to win ! It's obviously the biggest stadium available for a French Ligue 1 team so far, but you will have to be good enough to fill all the empty seats that the stadium used to have in the last years...and Marseille fans are really tough to convince so be smart ! Your facilities are also excellent, and will need few improvements Board expectations and club vision The board wants you to achieve a top 3 finish, as usual, PSG will be the favorite for the league tittle, but you'll have others teams to compete with, and especially Monaco, they don't play any European competition and their team is really good, Nice is also a good performer IG, so watch out Be aware that this year Ligue 1 only has 18 clubs instead of 20, so you can't drop a lot of points Your match fixtures will be quite easy for the beginning of the season, so you need to make a lot of points This year I feel like the squad is not as competitive as last year, you have some weak areas to strengthen, but you will easily identify what you lack of You will get 8M€ available, and no wages left at all Fans Expectations At least you know which are the matches you should not lose Kits ALLEZ L'OM Edited October 24, 2023 by nico_france
nico_france
SQUAD ANALYSIS Goalkeepers PAU LOPEZ Easy for the GK as you have the same players Pau is still your number 1, and bear in mind that this year it's important to have two good GK available as it's possible for them to get injuries in match RUBEN BLANCO Now a permanent deal, decent back up Transfers Recommandations: You will need to strengthen this area in the future, some French young GK could be interesting Defenders Centre Back MBEMBA Still a great player for you, reliable lad But as an African player he could be unavailable for the African cup in January To consider for your future transfers MEÏTE (on loan) Last move of the summer as it's been a swap with our former defender Isaak Touré Nice rotation option, African as well, so might be missing in January as well BALERDI The Argentinian is still at the club, can improve slightly Good option GIGOT One of the nicest surprise last season, Gigot is really reliable with a great mentality A starter Transfers Recommandations: These CB's are ok for a 4 defenders tactic, if you want to play differently you will need to invest, no left footed option at the moment in the team, to consider Fullbacks Right side CLAUSS Your best option, French by the way Assist for fun, he's already 30 y/o and he's running out of contract in 2025 Don't wait too much to renew his contract if you want to keep him MURILLO Joined Marseille this Marseille from Anderlecht He's decent at most, you will need to work on the transfers market for this weak area once again Left side RENAN LODI The full Brazilian international joined the club this year from Atletico Your starter for the spot, and your only natural option for the spot You might havre to use SOGLO from your reserve team to get a back up Transfers Reccomandations: As usual, Fullbacks is a concern, your priority for investments Midfielders VERETOUT A reliable option for your midfield Especially as he's very capable in passing Your best option for set pieces as well, important for this year version of FM Should start a lot of games OUNAHI Joined the club last winter after his really good World Cup with Marocco Still young and has room to develop Interesting cover But once again he should be out for duty in January KONDOGBIA Great addition to the team Just arrived from Atletico this summer Defensive minded midfielder with solid physical attributes A starter RONGIER After Payet departure, he's now the club captain Really versatile and useful player as he can work well for a lot of positions in your midfield And he can provide a nice cover on your right flank in case of injury crisis Useful team player with good mentality GUEYE The Senegalese is unavailable because of a FIFA ban until mid december His contract is running out in 2024 Might be a candidate for a departure asap Transfers Recommandations: Players on their 30'S, even if they're good, you will need to bring some fresh blood shortly Attacking midfielders Right side SARR Former Watford player joined the club this summer Really capable on both flanks His pace is a really good tool to use for your team Senegalese international, he should be missing in January as well Left side HARIT Deal is now permamnt The Maroccan international is a good option for the spot He can be really good as a #10 as well Homegrown player, but will be missing in January as well... Central NDIAYE New addition to the team, joined the club from Sheffield this summer The full Senegalese international is a really good option upfront Has a better impact in a central position Once again, will be out for international duties in January... Transfers Recommandations: You need to bring quality in these areas asap Strikers AUBAMEYANG Well, the former brilliant striker has been released by Chelsea this summer Obviously he can offer something upfronyt But his age and most of all his salary are a real concern To offload quickly as he's only a short term option for you VITINHA Transfer record last winter The young Portuguese still has to show his quality in Marseille He did not prove anything so far But he is your best option upfront, especially if you want to use his agressivity CORREA (On loan from Inter) The Argentinian is a striker, but for more taste he will be more than useful on the wings, lire IRL actually You can buy this player at the end of his loan, or if it's hopefully it's fixed before the release there is a mandatory 13M€ fee if you qualify in Champions League Good option for this year as he will be providing depth in the attacking department Overall recommendations: Have a look to your young teams, you might have some good options in some specific positions, the club lacks of homegrown players Edited October 24, 2023 by nico_france
nico_france
TACTICS If you want to stick with Gattuso's vision, then 4-3-3 is the way, with gegenpress mentality There is also a good alternative to explore imo with 4-2-3-1, this will allow your #10 to shine, you have good physical midfielders to hold the area All the best for your stay in Marseille ! Fraser
If Isaak Toure has enough potential to make the team in a year or two, then having a 6ft9 centre back opens up a lot of options for some set piece fun!!!!

With injuries it would be difficult to manage.. Also who did send malinovsky and ghenduzi to loan. We have great players who are on loan Glad you enjoy your stay Unfortunately you are right, there a few options as substitutes in the team, have a look to the youngsters, they might be useful Regarding these loans, especially Guendouzi, trust me IRL, a lot of people are really angry By the way you won't see these 2 players again with you All the best for your stay in marseille ! Pafnus
my performance unfortunately we got bad results in CL. Real Madrid surprisingly lost Benfica and Lazio and this get rid of our 3. chance we had too many injuries. :/
nico_france
Unlucky with those injuries, as the original squad lacks of quantity, and quality, if you have an injury crisis it's getting tough All the best for your stay in Marseille !
