Jimbokav1971
Mar 2061. Scottish Premiership. We're still top by 5 points from Aberdeen, but we no longer have any games in hand and we're well and truly stumbling. Celtic beat us twice in the league this month, and also knocked us out of the Scottish Cup at the end of last month. They have properly stuck the boot into us and we're reeling. UEFA Champions League. It looks like the problem against Real Madrid was the away leg, but actually the damage was done in the 1st leg at home where we hit the woodwork twice and didn't take our chances, and a game that we could and should have won by a couple of goals, instead yielded a 1-0 loss. With a lead to defend after the 1st leg it might have been different, but that's us done in Europe for another season. I'm a bit frustrated that we can't seem to get to the business end of the Champions League after what we did with such limited resources at Rangers. Maybe this is just our limit? In previous Youth Only saves I have often classed the save a success when we have won the Europa League or the Europa Conference, but I don't think that's a big enough target for a Scottish save. I think that we need to continue aiming for the Holy Grail of the Champions League, (no matter how unrealistic and unachievable it seems at the moment). Form and momentum. In my opinion, a contributing factor to the Real Madrid loss was the fact that we had just lost to Celtic in the Cup. Without that loss I think we win the 1st leg against Real Madrid and without either of those 1st 2 losses then I also don't think we lost to Celtic in the league. Then after 3 losses that weren't now losses, maybe just maybe we get a result of some sort in the 2nd leg that allows us to progress. The problem we've got now is that there is a serious danger of this completely derailing our season. We've already crashed out of the Champions League and the Scottish Cup. Now we need to make sure that we don't throw the league. The good news is that at the time of writing this we have a buffer of 7 points and a game in hand over 2nd placed Aberdeen. The key to getting past teams like Real Madrid isn't being better than Real Madrid. It's taking good form and momentum into the games with them at this crucial point of the season and edging what will be a really tight contest. This is what I managed to do with Rangers and that was driven by the "exploits" I was able to take advantage of with the " Big" players in the side often over-performing. Obviously I'm not able to do that here because we don't have the ability to go out and bring in "Big" players, but at the same time I'm aware that we have some "Big" players coming through, albeit that their PA isn't through the roof. They don't have to have potential through the roof though. They just need to be able to impact on the 2nd Team. * As if that isn't enough, we immediately get a 6'3" TM through the intake as soon as I pressed continue. Internationals. Goal-scoring GK's. Jimbokav1971
Apologies for the lack of detail in that last post, but the save keeps crashing as we progress from 19th May 2061 to 20th May 2061. It's crashed 4 times in a row as I try to continue. I will try to holiday and see if I can get past it. No idea what the problem is. [Edit] I have holidayed to 20th May and then as soon as I pressed continue it crashed again. [Edit2] Nope. If I try to holiday past 20th May it crashes during holidaying. [Edit3] I've gone back to a save dated 1st April 2061 and will try and holiday from there. [Edit4] When I holiday from 1st Apr 2061 I can get to 22nd May 2061 and then when I press continue I can get to 23rd May 2061, so the save isn't dead. The only thing is that I will have to either replay the last month and a half, or just go with the new results, (because we still won the league). BillHoudini24
Ooof, luckily the crashing stopped! You've produced some serious talent here, banging heads with Madrid is a good sign for the future. I know the Celtic losses are frustrating, but at least it's something that maintains interest domestically. Usually at this point of a save in smaller nations, you have no contest at all.

You know I'm not frustrated by the Celtic losses. If I said I was then I retract that because I don't think that's right. Had we been unlucky and lost close games then yeah that would absolutely frustrate me, but actually we've been well-beaten by them I think so absolutely no complaints. The fact that we're having to work for it makes our successes taste all the more sweet. I really want an unbeaten season, but I think we're a long way off that yet. I haven't actually looked at what areas Celtic are beating us in yet, (because they just seem better than us across the board), but I will absolutely be paying more attention to those games this season. (Apologies). if you go onto Steam workshop for FM24, and select "League and Data updates", and then search for "Scotland", the Rcqq is the 2nd one on the list. No idea if it's 24.3 compatible I'm afraid. (Actually I've just checked the comments and it certainly wasn't compatible with 24.3 as of March. Not 100% sure about this, but couldn't you revert the game to the original, start the save and then update the game, (as I would have done as and when it came out?) Jimbokav1971
Jun 2061. FIFA Club World Cup. I wasn't really sure what to expect from this competition as it was the 1st time we had entered. I didn't used to like the old format where there were only a few invitations sent each year. 3 Group games and then 4 Knockout games is at least a proper competition now. We were unlucky against Newcastle, but that's just how it goes. The only problem with this competition is that assuming we will be playing in it regularly now, we don't get an off-season for the players to go on holiday. There were 3 weeks between the last league game and the 1st WCC game, (so they could have a holiday there), but if we don that then they won't be properly fit for the WCC. There are just 5 days between the Quarter-Final of the WCC and the 1st friendly for the new season. I suppose that means I should send the whole squad on holiday for 2 weeks now. I've given them 15 days rest, but that's not the same as a holiday at all, and i'm just a little concerned that they won't be training and will still be playing friendlies and I'm not sure I like this as a plan at all. I holidayed the last but of the season, (because of the bug), and (43n) Welsh (M.Pro) 6'4" * scored 1 goal there and then another in the Club World Cup to bring him to 130 career goals. He's contracted for 4 more years and we have a +1 on top of that, and as he's 34 years old now, that should well and truly take him through to the end of his contract. I would actually love him to stay that long and at the moment i'm not seeing any physical drop-off in attributes, (but then again 34 for a GK is like 29/30 for an outfield player0. Jimbokav1971
Aug 2061. Scottish Premiership. It was a really good month, but so close to a phenomenal month. Although we dropped points in the last game of the month, (against Ross County), we at least kept a clean sheet, and if you had asked me whether I would be happier at dropping points, (but remaining undefeated), or losing our 100% clean sheet record then I would have probably settled for the draw. The small annoyance is that (43n) Welsh (M.Pro) 6'4" * saw a pen saved against Ross County that would have kept us on maximum points, but there's no point being greedy. We're unbeaten and haven't conceded a goal in the league and that will do me fine. We're not as defensively strong as this suggests though, as some favourable fixtures, (no Hearts, Hibs or Celtic for example), was also aided by 4 home games from 6. It should also be mentioned that our GK has been in pretty good form, and without him we might have conceded quite a few goals. Celtic have played 1 game less than us, but we've also played 1 less than 7 other sides in the league. UEFA Champions League. League Cup. We're into the next round, but we did concede a goal. Jimbokav1971
Sep 2061. Scottish Premiership. 2 more wins, but we've conceded our 1st goal in the league. We're still top, and Hibs/Motherwell have started really well, but we have 6 league games in Oct and it will be really interesting to see if we can remain unbeaten in the league and hang on in there in the Champions League. Jimbokav1971
Oct 2061. Scottish Premiership. On the 1 hand I'm peeved that we conceded not just 2 goals against St Johnstone, but furious that we conceded 3 against Ross County, (the 3rd coming in the 97th min). On the other hand we're still unbeaten and that's a far more realistic, achievable, (and dare I say it, almost "tangible"), goal. Astonishingly, despite remaining unbeaten over the opening 14 games of the season, we're still only 1 point ahead of Hibs, (although they have played 2 games more), and then Hearts are 6 pts further back. Celtic seem miles back, (12 pts), but they have played the same number of games as us. UEFA Champions League. 2 draws and a win from those 3 opening games is better than decent. League Cup. Jimbokav1971
Youth Intake day. Mar 2062. There is some good news. There are some lovely Nationalities and I know that shouldn't matter, (but it really does). We have 3 players who are already over 6'0". 7 of the 16 players are "lefties". Jimbokav1971
Mar 2062. Scottish Premiership. We're 20 points clear at the top of the league now, (with a game still in hand), and we've already broken the 100+ goals scored barrier, (with 8 league games still to play). The record for most team goals scored in a league campaign is..... 132 scored by Hearts in 1957/58. 28 more goals to score in 8 games means that we have to score 3.5 goals per game, so this is certainly doable. To this point we've scored at at a rate if 3.47 goals per game, but the problem with my maths is that it doesn't account for the fact that the last 5 games of the season, (after the split), will all be against teams in the top half of the table, and 2 of the 3 normal games we have left are against Celtic & Hearts, (although the other is against Dundee). Scottish Cup. We're into the next round where surprisingly we will play Kelty Hearts of League 2, (Tier 4) in the Semi's. , Internationals. Transfers. NxGn 2062. (60a) Leishman (F.Pro) *** still has 5.0 PA and he did well at Rangers in the Championship in the 1st half of the season so I decided to bring him back. He's made 9 starts for us in the 2nd half of the season in all competitions and has 2 assists (59g) Surma (POL) (L.Heart) * is a player who I don't really know anything about. I don't remember him coming through the intake at all, and I don't even remember loaning him out in pre-season. He's been playing in the Premiership, (albeit for the worst team in the league), but he's been doing ok and I will have to have a look at him next season. He's recently been capped by Poland. Jimbokav1971
Apr 2062. Scottish Premiership. We won the league with 7 games remaining to make it 7 league wins on the bounce, (and 8 in total). Gutted that we lost the last league game of the normal season, (to Hearts), (with just the 5 Championship Group games remaining). I've purposefully stopped myself from commenting about an unbeaten domestic season because I REALLY wanted it to happen, but alas it's not happening this season I'm afraid. The danger now is that we will lose another game , and while I don't particularly mind that, I really don't want it to be the Semi of the Final of the Scottish Cup. my strategy to avoid that is to give the 1st Team an easy friendly to play, (to smash in loads of goals), and then for the 2nd Team to play the Semi-Final after that. It sounds risky, but shouldn't be because we're playing a Tier 4 side Kelty Hearts. We didn't have a problem in the Cup, (actually we did and it went to extra-time, but we won in the end), but we did lose another league game and I think the hangover still exists. It's far from over. We're 19 points clear and the title is in the bag, but I think we've blown any chance we had of breaking the team season goal-scoring record. A 19-0 win would seem to be just what I had in mind. I don't think I've ever hit 20 goals in a friendly. Has anyone else? Scottish Cup. We're into the Final where we will play Motherwell who qualified for the Championship Group at the league split. Transfers. Poached. This is a shame because he's actually got decent potential. Goal-scoring GK's. 2 goals scored from 3 pens taken this month. (23) Brass (Bal) 6'2" is 5/8 from the spot at 63%. Jimbokav1971
Rangers. May 2062. It's hard to know where to start with Rangers. They've entered Administration again and have been deducted another 15 points, and without that they would have finished 3rd in the Championship and at least made the playoffs. The biggest news is probably that they have completely scrapped their Youth Setup, and there is obviously a saving with the costs involved in that no longer being due. The problem is that the Finances - Expenditure doesn't seem to back that up, and the Facilities screen seems to suggest that if the Youth Setup has been scrapped at some point, not only has it been restarted, but it's now at a point where it's costing more than it was before, (but maybe that's a restart cost or something). Interestingly, although the Youth Facilities and Youth Recruitment are at L15 and L20 respectively, the Training Facilities are at L1. Is this what was sold? The wage budget has been slashed and they are only spending approx. £42k pw from a budget of £61k pw, (although that's next season's budget rather than this season's budget. Even £61k pw is £3.2M per year, which would make them the 3rd highest in the Championship. This season they were the 6th biggest spenders, (despite being in Administration). I was anticipating that if they entered Administration for a 2nd time, then it might be the end of them, but actually things are looking much better financially than I was expecting. At the start of my Rangers thread, (jun 2058) we/they were repaying loans of £485M at £1.8M per month and now they only have loans of £99M (+£24M in interest), repayable at £350k pm, and that's completely doable, (even by the AI). There is an enormous difference between servicing loan repayments of £1.8M pm and £350k pm. (A £1.45M difference pm to be precise). When you factor in their season ticket sales, attendances and sponsorship income, they should not have a problem financially at all. £350k pw is just about nothing to them. Yeah in the Championship it might be a little annoying, but surely nothing more significant than that. They sold players for more money than they spent bringing players in, and I've just checked and Selfridge is still at the club, (although he only scored 10 goals this season so isn't being used properly). They relied heavily on 5 loan players who made 156(7) appearances between them, (at an average of 31+ games played this season). They don't seem to have many potential "stars" at the club, although they do have 2 players out on loan who should have been playing regular 1st Team football this season. maybe it was cheaper to loan them out and not pay their wages, (and replace them with similar loaned in players who's wages were being paid by someone else. That being said, they don't need any "stars" to get out of the Championship, and I would be ultra-confidant of doing it at the 1st time of asking, (however I'm not going back there again!) All in all I would say that I think their financial woes are behind them and I expect them to go from strength to strength now.

Jimbokav1971
May 2062. That's our 3rd treble to go with 3 more doubles in the last 7 years. It's pretty complete dominance now. Scottish Premiership. Although we scored 122 league goals over the season, (which is brilliant), we still fell short of the record which is 132 (by Hearts in 1957/58). We've done the domestic double, (and are on course for the domestic treble), so it should still be seen as a successful season, 94 pts is obviously good, but the record is 106, (by Celtic in 2016/17). If we ever go unbeaten in the league, it still won't be a record, (as Celtic achieved that in 1897/98). Scottish Cup. Internationals. We've had 14 (FOURTEEN) players called up for the senior Scottish squad, (and 17 Academy products in total), but it's an enormous squad of 54 players as they prepare for the 2061 World Cup which is being held in the USA. 8 of our Academy players who have been called up have never been capped before, and there is still no space of any of our GK's. Jimbokav1971
2 hours ago, leobiazzi said: Thank you! I still believe you can win the UCL I think we're close, (in that I don't think it would take many signings to allow us to do it), but the problem is that we can't make signings, and by the time someone comes through who is the type of player we need, the chances are we will need another different player in a different position then. For us to lose in the Semi's with Rangers, basically just off signing free agent players, is a tough comparison when you come back here and can't get past the Knockout Playoffs. We're already losing our best Libero, (44c) Antonazi (AUS)(Res)6'0 * in the Summer, and the 2nd best Libero is (49d) Sutherland (Bal) SELL, (who you might be able to tell is a converted midfielder who wasn't good enough to play in midfield), so at the moment I don't fee 1 step closer to winning the Champions league. I actually feel 1 step further away. I'm considering playing our hot prospect 17 year old midfielder (60a) Leishman (F.Pro) *** in there, (because he's 6'0" and even if he isn't very good, it will at the very least explode his development). As ever, we will see what next season brings.
Jimbokav1971
Jun 2062. Libero. The only significant loss in this close-season is that of 33 year old Libero (44c) Antonazi (AUS)(Res)6'0 *. He wasn't a proper Libero and was much more just a centre-half who could do a job, but he's 33 and this is his 2nd spell with the club, so because of his waning physical abilities, (and his low average rating actually), I don't think it will be as significant a loss as I initially. Additionally, because we're so dominant, (domestically at least), what we want from our Libero is far more in the midfielder stylee than the defender stylee, and my strategy of sticking in 17 year old hot prospect midfielder (60a) Leishman (F.Pro) ***, might just be an inspired decision, (at least as far as his development is concerned). Our 2nd Team Libero will remain as (49d) Sutherland (Bal) SELL, but he's a very average player and I would love to replace him. If I'm looking for another option to come in at Libero for the 2nd Team, then I really am struggling. The biggest attraction to promoting a young player early in this role is simply to boost their development ahead of schedule. We have 15 year old centre-half (62b) Sangala (ANG)(F.Pro) 6'2, who is pretty raw but might do a job at a push, (and has 4.0 PA). (58h) Duncan (Unamb) 6'6" *, (who is about to be renamed (58h) Duncan (Unamb) 6'7" *), is probably better equipped to step into the role right now, but he only has 3.0 PA and I'm torn between loving his PPM's in a sort of anti-football style, (plays short simple passes and plays no through balls), and absolutely loving the control this would give us. On top of that he's obviously 6'7"! (58f) Severin (Unamb) 6'5" * is the final option, and I really don't see him as a Libero at all. The only reason for using him would be to give him game-time with a view to boosting his development and making him a better centre-half. He isn't a Libero now and never will be a Libero, (but that has never stopped me before). Additionally....... he's 6'5! Saved team selections. 2062.1. 2062.2. Squad Depth. GK. 1st Team. leobiazzi
Have you considered changing your whole tactical approach to best suit the players you have at your disposal or is this against for what you think as player/planned for this save? Asking because I'd likely not force any player into a specific role if he's bad at it. That's not really what this save is about, (tactics). I'm basically just using the same format that I've used for..... I'm not sure now actually. It's been the last couple of FM's I think. I went through ages playing a 442, (because I liked playing 2 up front), and I was determined to stay away from the op exploity formations, but then when I started playing 3 at the back, (and yes I know 3 up front is completely exploity), I just sort of stuck with it, but I'm not really changing much at all. i have a very clear way of how I want to play, and you can tell by how successful it was when i was able to recruit my own players with Rangers that it works, but obviously the success is significantly watered down here because we just don't have the players of the right type in the right areas. The main issue is out central striker. We just haven't been producing big lumps who will dominate in the air and if I'm completely honest, I just can't be bothered to fiddle about with it too much. i will tweak things every now and againt to suit individual players over a short time period, but as i'm not actually playing the games, (I played the last Cup Final just because i was bored), it's not as easy as you might expect to make a change and to then work out whether or not it's been successful. It obviously can be done, but it's really labour intensive and like I said I really just can't be bothered. We've got a few "biggish" strikers coming through, but obviously the current crop of strikers are getting on a bit now, (some of them anyway), so with (47a) Currie (Bal) 6'2" * at 30, (by the way he scored 10 goals in 11(2) league appearances that season playing in the 2nd Team), and (50a) Donald (Bal) 6'1" * at 28, (he scored 17 goals in all competitions last season but only 4 in 10(22) league appearances), then time is probably not on their side. The annoying thing about (50a) Donald (Bal) 6'1" * is that the Ass Man keeps playing him in midfield when he comes off the bench and he came off the bench 30 times last season, and that's annoying as hell rather than just a little bit annoying. 17 goals in 21(30) matches doesn't sound amazing. 17 goals in 21 matches does. To go back to your original point, I'm really just too lazy to be constantly tweaking the tactics to suit individual players, and when you consider that we effectively have 2 completely different sides at any one time, (because of rotation), that wouldn require 2 different tactics to benefit the individual players within, then it's just too much like hard work, and that's even before players become injured/unavailable and i have to start swapping players between squads. Thebaker
Not surprised your GK's are not called up, the AI probably picks on CA and your GK are unlikely to be the strongest GK's available as their CA seems low even if they could do a job. Sangala looks a choice for Libero if only to boost his considerable ability. also he is not the shortest and is likely to still grow at 15,

Sangala looks a choice for Libero if only to boost his considerable ability. also he is not the shortest and is likely to still grow at 15, (43n) Welsh (M.Pro) 6'4" * has actually been called up loads I think. Just never capped. I must admit that i haven't bothered to look at who is playing instead of him though, (so let's do that now). 2 of them have been born in Langlee, (which I've never heard of). It's in the "Borders" area. Yeah, I still think he's been really unlucky not to be capped and I wonder is it down more to him still playing in Scotland, (rather than a bigger rep Nation). 3rd best GK in the World in 2060. How many of the others can say that? Edited August 14 by Jimbokav1971
Jimbokav1971
Jul 2062. Big Bids. Job offers. 7 Nations have offered us the job as Manager, (including Scotland, France and Brazil), and the highest paid job was France at £88,000 per week. I think the only way I would accept the Scotland job is if I thought my club goals were either complete or almost complete. Finances.
leobiazzi
Oh yeah, it's totally understandable @Jimbokav1971! I actually forgot that you quick result most matches haha. Is this Real Madrid bid for Donald the highest you ever got in Tullybody?

Is this Real Madrid bid for Donald the highest you ever got in Tullybody? I'm not honestly sure because i really don't take any notice, and a lot of the better players are on auro-refuse all transfer offers so I don't even have to decline the bid. I just skip over the message. 1 of the bids caught my eye at the beginning of last month so I just kept a note of some of the bigger ones.
Jimbokav1971
Aug 2062. Scottish Premiership. We had 3 of our best 6 strikers injured for the start of the season, and a number of other assorted niggling injuries, so I don't mind drawing 2 games at all considering that we're still unbeaten and nobody managed to score more than 2 goal against us. UEFA Champions League. I know we've got Bayern, Barca dn Spurs, but this actually looks an easier group. As the Bayern & Spurs games are both at home, this should help. League Cup. We're into the next round. Season Tickets. Goal-scoring GK's. 3 goals from 3 spot-kicks this month. (23) Brass (Bal) 6'2" is 5/8 from the spot at 63%. (Is no longer at the club). Thebaker
you are right that rep of the player and especially the club plays a part in international caps. IRL the club rep plays a huge part with undeserving Liverpool and Man U players getting england caps, Solanke comes to mind having done absolutely nothing for liverpool or anyone else to justify a call up when he was capped.
Jimbokav1971
Sep 2062. Scottish Premiership. We start to find our feet a little better as our players carrying knocks return. We're already 5 points clear at the top and have a game in hand. Hibs, (who finished 2nd last season), have already lost 3 league games, and are 10 points back. Hearts, (who finished 3rd last season), have already lost 2 games, and are 8 points back. Aberdeen, (who finishes 3rd last season), have already lost 5 league games, and are 18 points back. Motherwell, (who finished 4th and grabbed the last European spot last season), are 6 points back, but have played 1 game more. Celtic, (who finished 6th last season but missed out on Europe), have already lost 5 games, and are 13 points back. UEFA Champions League. I thought we were going to get something against Barca, but they held on. League Cup. We're into the Semi-Final. Internationals. Goal-scoring GK's. 0 goals scored from 1 pen taken this month. It certainly plays a part in real life, but if anything it's even more powerful in the game. That being said, as I was posting the last update I realised that the person who had stolen the place of (43n) Welsh (M.Pro) 6'4" * in the National Team squad is none other than..... (55e) McLean (F.Pro) 6'0" *. He's a decent GK, but I still don't think he's the best we've got, (although it's possible that I'm biased because I want (43n) Welsh (M.Pro) 6'4" * to score more goals.
Jimbokav1971
Oct 2062. Scottish Premiership. 3 wins from 4 is fine, especially as we were 2 defenders down against St johnstone. We were leading 2-0 at HT though so it's definitely a case of 2 points dropped, (although we might have lost late on too). We're 9 points clear at the top AND have a game in hand, but we're still conceding too many goals for my liking. UEFA Champions League. The 2nd Team are playing really well in Europe and after almost nicking a draw away to Barca, they took all 3 at home to Bayern. League Cup. We're into the next round and will play Livingstone, (who sit 4th in the Championship), in the Semi. Internationals. Job Interview. Goal-scoring GK's. 2 goals scored from 2 pens taken this month.
