My troubles so far as a FM player...

Recommended Posts

... I've been playing FM for quite some time and I have always been a Lower League Manager starting at VNN or VNS and never getting into the Premiership.

My previous save (FM22) to the one I am playing (FM23-FM24) now I did get Curzon Ashton into the Championship but quit playing after I got relegated back to League One.
I've had my current save since FM23 with Dulwich Hamlet and into my 8th season find myself in the Championship and yet again not doing very well, from 12 games I only have 4 points and sadly rock bottom of the division. I know there is a lot of of the season to go to turn it around but I feel the inevitable relegation is going to come my way again - but this time I will not quit.

This season I am in now I have a wage budget of £88k with the nearest team to me in that regard in the divsion have their wage spending at £180k. I really don't want to go over my wage budget so I have been budgeting for that instance, a lot of players I wanted even though they were on something like £1.5k a week wages kept asking me for wages of £8k+ to come and play with me. So I generally had to stay with a lot of the players I had when I got promoted and nit picked a couple of players from Scotland who seemed quite decent but honestly have done nothing for my team at all.

I tried my LLM tactics I had throughout the previous seasons and just kept getting hammered everytime so far, I just can't seem to stop the crosses coming into my area even if I instruct my team to work at stopping crosses they get given daft fouls against them or give away corners where the crosses come in anyway it seems six of one of half a dozen of another in that regard.

I was so pleased when they brought in the Set Piece Coach thing. However, I would like to actually see what my set piece coach is instrucing my players in doing without some Set Piece Responsibility screen blanking out the set piece page - but hey it is what it is. The lack of decent Set Piece Coaches seems a little ridiculous too, I've had to find non set piece coaches to be my set piece coaches because the Set Piece Coach availability is so poor.

I know I should be focusing on my strengths in this league - but everything I am trying just seems to be getting thrown in my face as a bad idea concerning the matches and my tactics used - I think it is going to be an undoubted bad season for me and my team and I will find myself back in League One with Dulwich Hamlet unless for some reason the board decide to sack the clubs idol.

It's been a while since I had a moan in this forum but I hope you guys are having a great early May Bank Holiday! Have a great day and speak again soon.

But that is one of the "cool" things. I have often been relegated, because you have overachieved. So down again, and build better team, and new try. Three times down to championship before i managed to settle in the premiership. And you don't get sacked because they don't expect you to stay up.

Seems like a pretty authentic experience to me. Promoted beyond your club’s expectations, budget and talent and probably going back down. Just enjoy the ride!

Exactly what I plan to do, it doesn't stop me from getting frustrated though. However, I hear ya!

I'm honestly unsure how FM24 works my board are really not happy with me and they reduced my wage budget even more now because the clubs finances are insecure.

However, I have a 3rd round tie with Chelsea at their place - it should give us a few £££'s.

Don't worry I'm not going to turn this into a career update but with 8 games remaining I've managed to pull myself out of a relegation battle - although I am still in one essentailly.16th.png.9d00d9144ddc0fb265520ecd9d8ede4c.png

However, I am essentially 3 wins from the magic 50 point mark.

Thank for reading my initial rant I think it was to gain some sort of perspective. ;)

A bit of a tongue in cheek comment here...

... can we please have an option to tell the Ass Man to STFU! In a relegation battle match losing 3-1 and telling me we are in control of the match, PFFFFT!

The match finished 5-3 to the opposition:seagull:

Well...

... I actually managed to get promoted to the Premier League with Dulwich Hamlet via the play-offs and I gotta say I thought I had 'troubles' in the Championship.

I'm contending against mazy runs that just can't be stopped, I try to loosen up my players to play a little more less structered and just get hammered and playing in a highly structured/structered manner means there is absolutely no outlet for an attack.

As to my complaints when I first got into the championship I am currently rock bottom of the Premier League with 5 points from 12 league games.

I suppose it comes down to 'enjoying the ride' but that is really difficult to do when I'm getting overrun by players that are clearly better then the players I have.

Blast it!!

So, I managed to pull Dulwich Hamlet out of the relegation zone with a few scappy and unlikely wins - actually got up to nose bleed zone of a lofty 16th.

Then I play Spurs hoping for perhaps a nervy draw...

... first 6 minutes my Target Forward gets sent off for a two footed lunge ...

... and in the 16th minute my first choice keeper gets injured with a dislocated shoulder.

Football gods are not smiling on me right now :seagull:

Lost 4-1 by the way

I have three games left of the season to avoid relegation...

... the league table looks like this...

... the Leeds game could be pivotable if we still have a chance at that point.

For a little more perspective Wolves are 10th and Watford are 12th.

All I have to say on this matter...

... in all honesty I have no idea what I can bring to this team to make it better, I guess I will have to wait and see.

With wage restrictions its worth getting a senior affiliate for player loans and income plus consider player loans in general to improve player standard.

I believe there is a long standing issue with FM in that a clubs finances do not improve proportionally to a clubs rise up the football tiers
