When you look at a map of Africa, Angola is a dominant sight in the south of the continent alongside neighbouring Namibia on the west with the Atlantic Ocean blasting its shores. What you don't see is the exclave of Cabinda Province to the north of the country.

Angola.png.f002f4025709badca59a54eedd5eda7a.png

That small area sandwiched between the Republic of The Congo to the North and the Democratic Republic of The Congo to the South is where this save calls home. The province is home to over 600,000 people whilst 500,000 inhabitants live in the city of Cabinda itself. A large port city which mainly deals in Oil exports.

Portugal was the colonial power that took over Ngoyo which is now present-day Cabinda in the 18th-century Scramble for Africa. Portugal had been controlling much of the Western Coast of Africa so gaining control was an easy process.

SC Petróleos de Cabinda

Sporting Club Petroleos Cabinda

Sp. Cabinda plays their home games at the 5000-capacity Estadio Municipal do Tafe in the city of Cabinda, it was built initially in 1956 and modernised in 2013. The club possesses average facilities throughout the club.

Their history is a bleak one, with no major honours domestically and not a sniff of continental football in the history books. Hopefully, that can change under my management.

We have money in the bank (£240k) and a transfer budget of £24k and are slightly overspending on wages at £4,900 per week. We have a full team of players and youth products to pick from but the quality is lacking. Expectations are low, we're predicted by the media to finish 13th (of 15) teams in the league whilst the board want us to avoid relegation for the foreseeable seasons ahead.

Yes get in!!!

I love reading your African adventures. It always inspires me to do a save in Africa.

The good thing about Angola is that you get a lot of dual nationalities with Portuguese players.

I am tempted to start a save with a Portuguese side and also the Angola national team with the aim of only signing Angolan players.

Zito Luvumbo is also a brilliant player from Angola.

Are you planning to manage the Angolan national team at some point in this save?

Thanks RB! Yep, Angolans will turn up in Portugal and the process will be to bring them home in due course. National team management is good in theory but always disappoints me. S

I always enjoyed you convincing players to play for the national team in the country you are playing. Especially players that get nationalized etc.

Good luck in your save. I look forward to seeing how you get on.

Squad Review

A quick look at the squad and the calibre of players we currently have at the club.

Zeca - the veteran full-back is in his fourth spell with the club according to his history. He will be first choice this season.

Sumol - the best centre-back we have, says a lot about the quality at the club.

Capucho - some young legs in midfield, the 17-year-old will operate at CM(a).

Anderson Moreno - the best striker at the club.

We're going to begin the save playing a bog-standard 4-4-2. Wing Play, whipping in the crosses and picking up the knockdowns. How far it will get us, I'm not sure.

Transfers

On the eve of the 2023/24 season, we'll take a look at the incoming players.

0df2c7505a25841d6362d34abcdc8a4b.png

Three new players joined the club.

Vunguidica - returns home having played in Germany all his career, the 33-year-old can play on the left or upfront.

Nilton - we needed a left-back and Angolan national Nilton was available after his release from Academica Lobito.

Goudiaby - the crown jewel of a signing, released by Casa Sports in his homeland Senegal. He comes at hefty £230 p/w but we moved on enough players to cover the extra wages.

11 players left the club all on free transfers to lower the wage expenditure.

Not sure how long I'll do monthly updates for, maybe just this season.

fcfdc48746eced25e6093ea4c2e021b5.png

An unbeaten start to the season, after two games both draws I was on the search for a new striker. Then things clicked as we smashed Bravos do Maquis 5-0 in front of over 1000 fans.

We went from playing clubs predicted to finishing 12th, 9th and 10th to 3rd, 2nd, 4th. Can you tell which clubs were predicted there?

Home form will be paramount to staying up this season and so far we've picked up 10 points from a possible 12.

We've dropped a place to 7th but we've played eight games, a few clubs have only played six.

October 2023

It was a poor-looking month on paper. A goal-fest to open the month as we come out on the winning side in a nine-goal thriller against Lobito. A heavily rotated, youth-laden side were humbled against Huambo in the Angolan Cup. Back-to-back draws against Lunda Sul and Williete before an expected loss to top-of-the-table Petro de Luanda.

We remain in 7th with an equal 4-4-4 record with +4 GD.

December 2023

A fantastic month in which we won four of our six games including beating both Kabuscrop (of Rivaldo fame) and 1 de Agosto with an injury-time winner.

We move one place up to 6th ahead of Wiliete de Benguela and we have a game in hand on them. Petro de Luanda have already won the league. We also now have 48 days until our next game, time for players to rest and injuries to heal. There are five games remaining and Wiliete are up next.

A long winter(?) break we returned to the Girabola with some good form, drawing with Wiliete to keep them below us before beating Sagrada Esperanca above us. Losing to Petro de Luanda was a given.

2023/24 Season Review

League - predicted to finish in 13th place by the media, we exceeded all expectations to finish in 6th place and earn ourselves £100k for doing so.

Cup - a disappointing exit in the 2nd Round at the hands of lower-league opposition.

Top Scorer - Cabungula (12) - One of the better strikers originally at the club.

Most Assists - Cambila (9) - shows the quality of the player at our disposal if this guy is playing 30 games this season.

POTS - Goudiaby - the Senegalese defender joined in the summer on a free transfer and slotted in as a Libero. He contributed seven goals and two assists.

Transfers - only five players joined including David Nzanza who had been released by Braga. We allowed 15 players to leave the club all on free transfers to bring the wage expenditure down.

cee7e874ee29f723bacbf9d2ba8df730.png

We end the season with a positive balance, we're currently £700 p/w under the wage budget and didn't spend a penny on transfers.

Not a great intake but what I like the look of is the nationalities which are created by our exclaved location.

Nice to see a variety of nationalities. Hopefully Beya ends up being a star player for you.

Transfers

After the season finished in April, we got underway with a squad overhaul. We released 10 players from their contracts which left us with about 10 players in the first team squad.

We set about scouting, trialling and signing a host of players to bulk up the first-team squad. A few picks of the bunch below;

Alem - our new defensive CM, primarily a DM we may move to a 4-3-3 to accommodate him in his natural position.

Didier Tsigbe - our new striker to partner Nzanza up top, the Togolese national had a 1 in 2 record at his former club.

Oscar Garcia - our new first choice right back on loan from Portuguese side Torreense.

A fantastic start to the new season, with three wins from four only losing to 1 de Agosto who are predicted to finish in 2nd place. New signing Alem is showing the way with four goals from midfield as the strikers have only scored one apiece in a goal-laden month.

2nd behind 1 de Agosto but we have played four games, Interclube have only played twice for instance.

We should have got a point against Petro de Luanda, Goudiaby missed a penalty. He made up for it in the next game with a hattrick against last placed Escolinha Isaac as we won 7-4. We rotated again in the cup and came up short against fellow Girabola side Libolo. Wantaway striker Nzanza struck twice as we beat Desportivo Huila 3-1.

A great month, as it's an unbeaten one. I love a Libero and I love making them penalty-takers too, Goudiaby scores his second hat-trick in four games and nets another against Kabuscorp which brings his season total to 10 goals in 14 games plus he's missed two pens too.

2024/25 Season Review

079738ccb8f821a5a363d2c3df2eb5e9.png

A disappointing end to the season losing to Interclube and drawing with Kabuscorp.

League - a great season overall, we were expected to finish down in 10th place but we've exceeded all expectations to finish in 4th place behind the big three. If we hadn't have drawn that last game of the season we would have finished in 5th as Lunda Sol smashed Sagrada Esperanca 6-0 which overturned the GD deficit between us.

Angolan Cup - there's always next season.

Top Scorer - Goudiaby (14) - our Libero, our chief penalty taker with 14 goals in 23(1) games with seven penalties scored of his nine attempts. Wantaway striker Nzanza also scored 14 but it took more games.

Most Assists - Bauca (10) - a rotation option for both wings, he also managed seven goals in his 23(2) games.

POTS - Oscar Garcia - the on-loan right-back managed seven assists from just 3.85xA. We've managed to secure his services permanently for next season and beyond.

Transfers - a lot of dud signings this season like Alem (who we later sold) and Tsigbe (who got injured and never regained full fitness).

f9099753f6b20c05c33f9be971452bdc.png

We were in the red until the end of the season when we got £120k for finishing fourth. We need to keep tight control on the wage expenditure next season.

We brought in seven new first-team players.

Jorginho arrived in early June on a free transfer from fellow Angolan side Wiliete de Benguela, he scored nine goals in 24 league appearances last season from the left wing. Oscar Garcia who was on loan from Portuguese side Torreense last season made it a permanent move back to his native Angola. We also signed Khadim Diaw from Senegalese side AS Pikine as his contract was expiring with his former club, he will take a CM role alongside Carlinhos.

Cambila was released by Estrela da Amadora in Portugal, he returns to his motherland as back up goalkeeper on a short-term deal. Babucarr Sanneh was also available for free having been released by AS Pikine, he can play across the backline but I will favour him in at CB. David Dennis became foreign signing number three as the Nigerian national was offered to me by his agent. The young striker was released by Akwa Utd in his homeland and will go straight in up front alongside Nzanza. Kibuata was the last signing before the league started, he offers a backup option for LB.

2025/26 Season Review

Ok, so I forgot to post the February and March updates, so the results are below;

45d42d46573cb1870b26f17f95f64d9d.png

Thankfully we'd done a lot of the hard work as we fell apart after the winter break which was in place due to the AFCoN.

League - 2nd Place and a huge overachievement in the scheme of things. Nevertheless, a new record-high place for the club and a hugely positive season in terms of scoring goals as we racked up 85, which was seven more than league winners Petro de Luanda. What let us down was the defensive record as we conceded 55 which was equal to relegated Benfica de Luanda.

Angolan Cup - a much better showing in the cup,  we beat Rita de Cassia B team, Santos and Desportiva Huila en route to losing to Petro de Luanda in the semi-finals.

Top Scorer - David Dennis (21) - the Nigerian youngster had a great first season as he also contributed 10 assists.

Most Assists - Jorginho (14) - the Angolan winger was signed in the summer to play left wing and he duly delivered with 14 assists and also scored six times.

POTS - David Dennis - 31 goal contributions in 25(6) appearances is a good effort. Hopefully, he can push on and improve those figures next season.

a4e70708c4db4cc7c9aa5d9f4b93b933.png

We look a lot better off having just raked in £170k for finishing in 2nd place in the league. We're currently spending £7k p/w on wages which is under the budget by £1200 p/w.
