2025 Season

Goalkeepers.

c375f946a52c2b22db62121c6934c1d3.png

Our goalkeeping was poor to the point of shambles last season. Alisson Silva was the best of the two, which is like saying a broken leg is better than a broken arm....

Defenders.

3385973f8f3f6fa449d8fa202c5fa7a4.png

Our Centre Backs were doing well on the Heading and Blocks, whilst our full backs were our best in the Tackling & Physical Output dept.

Midfielders.

30808b8287da2668b8c2692ebb3e958f.png

The proverbial scattergun approach here. Our wingers, Makoto Nakamura especially, topped the Physical Output chart, along with the Crossing chart. Our Passing Progression was awful and Bruno Henrique topped the Tackling chart.

Attackers.

edcc9211fa33676e8768136e0a06a03e.png

No prises for guessing who topped all our charts? That's right. Takumi Imei. Even though he didn't play for us for 6 months... *sigh*

Red Sun Rising - Season 4

Toky-owing it to the fans..

A sign of ambition from the clib this season! We were given the brief of Finish mid-table in the J3 and to be competitive in both the JFA Emperor's Cup and the J.League YBC Levain Cup. We have a £1.3m transfer budget and £25k wage budget. But, again, prudence dictates we don't spend all of it as we need to establish ourselves in the J3 first, IMO. My personal aim is for Playoffs or so. We finished 4th in Goals Scored and 11th on Goals Conceded. We conceded ten less goals this season and managed to finish seven places higher. Amazing.

Our squad depth at the end of the pre-season is herebut, like any plan, it never survives contact with a board....

Transfers

Well, we were in the market for a new goalie, right back cover, a taller left back with better Marking, and a backup striker once again.. What did we get? All will be revealed..

ジャイアント・キリング!!!! (Giant Killing!!!!)

a511476e88da878bc041615624c02e9c.png

In a sensational JFA Emperor's Cup Second Round clash, J3 League side Tokyo Metro Ota City stunned J1 League giants Cerezo Osaka with a dramatic 5-4 victory after extra time. Cerezo Osaka took an early 2-0 lead, asserting their dominance within the first 20 minutes of play with a penalty and a tap home. However, an own goal from the Osaka defense brought Tokyo Metro back into the game. Moments later, Sugiyama capitalized on a loose ball in the box, tapping it in to level the score at 2-2. Just before the halftime whistle, Cerezo regained their lead, ensuring a tense 3-2 advantage going into the break.

The second half saw Tokyo Metro Ota City come out with renewed determination. Museliani, their burly Georgian forward struck a powerful 20-yard shot shortly after the restart, bringing the scores back to level terms at 3-3. Both teams fought hard for a decisive goal, but the 90 minutes concluded without further changes to the scoreline, pushing the match into extra time. Tokyo Metro's resilience and strategic counter-attacks paid off as they struck twice on the break, once in each half of extra time, taking a surprising 5-3 lead.

In a nail-biting finish, Cerezo Osaka managed to pull one back through a last-second own goal by Tokyo Metro, making it 5-4. Despite the late scare, Tokyo Metro Ota City held firm to secure an extraordinary victory, marking one of the most memorable upsets in the competition's history. This win not only showcases the unpredictability of the Emperor's Cup but also highlights the fighting spirit and determination of Tokyo Metro Ota City against their top-tier opponents.

August 2026 Transfer Window

Maintaaaain, maainntaaaain... We were in 1st place in J3 coming into the transfer window and As we'd suffered collapses in form in each of our three seasons in existence around this time, I was desperate for it not to happen. Thankfully, we had the chance to bring home an icon to help us with our goal

Well. My Lord. This was supposed to be a mediocre intake. Good thing our HOYD has a decent personality, because he sucks at judging players.  Let's look at the top 3 prospects.

Top 3 Prospects

チャンピオン (又)!!!!

f330262932763b344a311675c3de3acf.png

A brilliant double for the first team and Under-18's. They took the lead early on in the year and did not give up, winning the league by 10 points at an average of over 2 points per game! Akio Chiba took his demotion well, after being sent down from the first team, after Imei's return on loan to the club, coming up with 16 goals in 18 U-18 appearances. Such was his fantastic record that I had to recall him to the first team for the end of the season. All five top performers were from our youth academy, with just left wing sensation Daisuke Higuchi not to have made a first team appearance for the club yet.

Here are the top 5 performers for our U-18's this season.

16ab68b40114e616548c8a4ff958aa39a-removebg.png.b73e83bcca4bc1d96c8f7fdc799e9f52.pngAkio Chiba, 18, ST  (P18, 16G, 2A) - He took the U-18's by storm and showed he had nothing left to prove at the lower levels. He'll be a first team player next season, easily

4. d859ea2202e957d70047133a45771c67-removebg.png.b1cd19274f87a5570ece43cd4939fd45.pngKoji Yamada, 17, ST  (P25, 19G, 2A) - Yamada suffers from Yamamoto Syndrome. A good player that's blocked by Akio Chiba and loanees. One more year in the U-18's should suffice

2026 Season Review

We finally got over our mid-season hump. We again started well, average form taking us to 7th place before the sky, for once, didn't fall in. We kept on rolling over teams, with our best result seeing us play (then)second placed FC Imabari, after picking one point in two games. We then absolutely dismantled second place, winning 7-1! We coasted to the J3 League title, finishing 1st out of 20 and winning the title by 10 points and winning with 5 games to spare. For once we didn't blood any of our youth players in the back end of the season, mainly as we were winning and didn't need a spark haha, however Shohei Ishii's injury put paid to him appearing. Top scorer was on-loan striker Takuma Sujiyama, netting 21 goals, whilst another loanee, Keisuke Sunamori lead the way with 11 assists. We also finished 2nd overall in Goals Scored and halved our Goals Conceded to finish top of the pile with only 35 conceded

Our offseason business was going to be strengthening for our first ever Meiji Yasuda J2 campaign. Full back is still a concern, only the right hand side this time. We're also losing depth in the centre of defence, so some backups would be very welcome. What is our enemy this offseason is time. We need to wait for the season to turn over, so our reputation can bump up and so we have more choice in who we can pick up. I'll also look at deals for Sujiyama and Sunamori as they lead our team in goals and assists, but it will depend on cash reserves as our concentration in improving our facilities means we're bleeding money worse than I would like.

Akuma and Hideo, two old friends with years of memories and camaraderie, sit comfortably in the cozy, dimly-lit Sercow and Hornet pub. The evening is alive with the buzz of jubilant chatter, laughter, and the occasional clink of glasses, a testament to the collective joy felt by the community. Both men, pleasantly drunk, wear broad smiles, their faces flushed with both alcohol and the thrill of victory. Their beloved football team has just clinched the J3 League title, securing a promotion that seemed a distant dream not long ago. The triumphant parade that wound through the streets earlier in the day still lingers in their minds, a vivid celebration of their team's hard-fought success.

Their joy is compounded by the return of a club icon, Takumi Imei, whose loan spell during the run-in proved to be a masterstroke. Imei's presence on the pitch not only bolstered the team's performance but also rekindled fond memories of past glories. Akuma and Hideo, having followed the club through thick and thin, exchange stories of Imei's earlier exploits, their voices rising with excitement as they recount his game-changing moments. The sense of pride and nostalgia is palpable, weaving a deeper connection between the two men and their cherished club.

Adding to their celebration is the remarkable achievement of the club's U-18 team, who also clinched their league title this season. This dual triumph brings an extra layer of hope and excitement for the future, promising a new generation of talent ready to uphold the club's legacy. Akuma and Hideo toast to the young players, their eyes twinkling with both pride and the effects of the alcohol. In this moment, surrounded by the warmth of friendship and community, the Sercow and Hornet pub transforms into a sanctuary of shared dreams and unwavering support for their beloved football club.

2026 Season

Goalkeepers.

71ea0531c736054740815a436c7b0bea.png

Masatoshi Kushibiki leads all the Goalkeeping stats, but it's nice to see that 16 year old Tomasi Matsunaga ran him close in the categories. Matsunaga will spend next season in the U-18's, leaving the door open for a new keeper for two seasons. At the absolute worst, we'll extend Kushibiki for another year or so.

Defenders.

fb73acf46be5a7176645c353097b1be0.png

Hidenori Hayashi led all our defenders in Aerial stats, with Onishi and Janko rounding out our league-leading aerial defence. Our full backs topped the lots of blocks/clearances stats and also the Physical Output stats. We also led the league in 20.55 Interceptions per game.

Midfielders.

dfe6d4dd83998ee488ef155dca5966d0.png

On-loan Keisuke Sunamori absolutely dominated our Passing Progression and Crossing stats this season, along with Physical Output, with 16 year old academy product Tetsuo Shirai almost matching him on Physical Output. Elsewhere Ryo Yamamoto was in the top percentile of Tackles/Succesful Tackles, but might need some work in the offseason in order to swing the plot-point to Strong Tackling, as his two red cards this season point to. Kei Iizuka was better with his Strength, just not as many tackles as Yamamoto .

Attackers.

cadbdbf51f6a180126b4735deca1f1f4.png

Much as we scored a ton of goals and finished second overall in Goals Scored, Akio Chiba led most of our categories, if not all of them, before his demotion. Still poor assisting from our forwards, but to be fair, we rely more on the midfield to provide the assists, so I'm not that fussed at low numbers there. I like we're aggressive on shooting, but not our wastfulness.

I've got the brains, you've got the looks

c1c81b7ca416548669574b8573e407e7.png

In a pivotal meeting for Tokyo Metro Ota City FC, chairman Tsuyoshi Sugai, Under Armour Japan president Haim Shuker, and Ota City mayor Hinari Saynori convened to discuss a transformative partnership. The club's recent promotion to the J2 League has marked them as a rising star in Japanese football, capturing the attention of both fans and sponsors. Chairman Sugai highlighted the club's ambitions to not only compete at a higher level but to also become a cornerstone of the community. This goal aligns well with Under Armour's strategy of entering the Japanese market with a fresh and exciting brand, making the timing of the meeting particularly fortuitous.

Haim Shuker expressed Under Armour's eagerness to sponsor Tokyo Metro Ota City FC, recognizing the club's dynamic ascent and the excitement it generates. Shuker conveyed that Under Armour's support would extend beyond providing high-quality athletic gear; it would involve a comprehensive marketing campaign to bolster the club's visibility. This sponsorship would not only enhance the club's performance but also serve as a robust entry point for Under Armour in Japan. Shuker believed that the partnership would resonate with Japanese consumers by combining the innovative spirit of Under Armour with the local enthusiasm for Tokyo Metro Ota City FC.

Mayor Hinari Saynori saw a unique opportunity to leverage this partnership to boost tourism in Ota City. He proposed that the collaboration could extend beyond sports, using the club as a vehicle to promote the city's attractions. Mayor Saynori suggested that Tokyo Metro Ota City FC could be an ambassador for the city, featuring local cultural and historical landmarks in their promotions. Additionally, the mayor offered municipal support for the club's efforts, viewing this as a chance to drive economic growth and enhance the city's profile both domestically and internationally.

In a surprising and strategic move, Haim Shuker announced during the negotiations that Under Armour would initiate a third shirt tie-up with Tokyo Haneda Airport, which is based in Ota City. This collaboration would see Tokyo Metro Ota City FC wearing a special third kit featuring the airport's branding, symbolizing the club's connection to the local community and facilitating greater brand synergy. This tie-up would not only increase visibility for the airport but also strengthen the club's identity within the region. The announcement was met with enthusiasm from both Sugai and Saynori, who saw it as an innovative way to intertwine local pride with global recognition. As the meeting concluded, the trio looked forward to a partnership that promised to elevate the club, the brand, and the city to new heights.

The three new kits, designed by Under Armour Japan to serve the club well at J2 level, whilst remaining recognisable at a local and national level.

Red Sun Rising - Season 5

On The J2 The Promised Land...

We are a promoted club! We were given the brief of Finish mid-table in the J2. Errr... we've only just been promoted, can't we just avoid relegation first? Please? The board also want to be competitive in both the JFA Emperor's Cup and the J.League YBC Levain Cup. We have a £2.4m transfer budget and £43.5k wage budget. But, again, prudence dictates we don't spend all of it as we need to save some cash if we are relegated first, IMO. My personal aim is for finishing about the relegation zone in any way. Hell, I'll take goal difference if it comes to it.

We had a bit of a mad-offseason with the unexpected promotion. First off was the raising of ticket pricesThe fanbase aren't going to be happy with that. Then came the news that our stadium wasn't good enough for J2 League play. We also tried to pick up last season's loan superstars, but Takuma Sugiyama, although he had agreed a contract with us, signed for a J1-League team for more cash. Bugger. Next Keisuke Sunamori was transfer-listed by his club and we leapt in with a club-record £750k bid, however he asked to come off the transfer list and the bid was rejected. Sunamori then signed a new deal, pushing his value up to £3.3m. Double bugger.

'New' Stadium.

4af198b55f96ca5c7dfac195091369d7.png

The 28k-holding Uvance Todoroki Stadium by Fujitsu, home of J1-League side Kawasaki Frontale will be our home until a) we're relegated, b) bring the old stadium up to code or c) build a new stadium. The supporters won't be too happy in having to move near on 12km from their usual spots and finding new ones in the new ward of Kawasaki. But we had very little luck in getting anywhere closer, so this will be our reality for a season or two.

e5997b952ff1f6e5c0e9a9be93da75e3.jpg

Still, it's a nice enough stadium and WAYYYY overblown for our needs. Can't see us getting many more people in the gates than we did in Higashikojiya Park.

New Senior Affiliate

We also got a notification that our Senior Affiliate link with Yokohama FC was terminated due to their relegation and our promotion. The board came to us the next day and asked if we wanted a replacement to which I thoroughly agreed to. I'm not too proud to try and snap up loans whilst we look to consolidate our time in the J2. The board put out their feelers and three clubs came back to us with firm offers for us to be their feeder club

180px-Kashiwa_Reysol_logo.svg.png Option 1: Kashiwa Reysol

260px-FC_Tokyo_Logo.svg.pngOption 2: FC Tokyo

160px-Urawa_Red_Diamonds_logo.svg.png Option 3: Urawa Red Diamonds

They all play in the greater Tokyo metropolis, so we looked at their locations. And while Urawa are practically J-League royalty, FC Tokyo are closest to us so they win.

968621c8967d92a1e600c8dd8a05a0da.jpg

We were sent the marketing gumpf by the FC Tokyo board to send out to the season ticket holders who had just got the news of massive ticket price hikes and a 12km extra commute to a shared stadium.. They've not won a J1-League yet, but have had some success in the cups, so let's hope it rubs off on us.

Adding and upgrading.

We were given permission by the board to expand our coaching staff by a little, letting us interview for a Head Performance Analyst and a Performance Analyst and, something I had been fighting for all year, a Set-Piece Coach. The adverts went out in all the usual trades and online places and we had a decent response In the end, we went for the following...

End of March 2027 Transfer Window

So, our main focus this off-season and transfer window was at Right Back, with Ezaki and Gotoda not being up to scratch for J2 for my liking; Centre Backs for depth, with the loss of Hayashi and, where possible, upgrades for as many positions as we could get. Our team that took us to promotion was young and a lot of them could easily spend some time back in the U-18's for a season or so.

We were still trying to get players in that would fit our 4-4-2 formation though, so we were looking for Full Backs on Support first off and first stop was, as always, the recently relegated J3 sides. The change of parent clubs from Yokohama FC to FC Tokyo put a bit of a spanner in the works, with regards to getting in loans and we lost out on our two loan targets from last season. Still, let's go through our window.

2f1921688631abf95697510935948209.pngTakumi Imei, 23, ST, (£500k, V-Varen Nagasaki) - Our iconic No.25 is back. We negotiated with Nagasaki to pay them £1m for him, but due to the 50% sell on, we only paid £500k! :D

3a03e7b2fd2b26a341d1796a7778d2bb.pngEmin Durakovic, 21, M/AMC, (Free Agent) - WOWOWOW! We had no intention of signing a new CM, but Durakovic is a monster and it means Ishii can hothouse in the U-18's

End of August 2027 Transfer Window

We didn't really have any needs going into this window, so I was really on a 'suck-it-and-see' trip for the entire window. We did our usual good start and then plummeted like usual to finish the window in 10th place. However, my first chance to study the J3 stats to pick up performing players saw us pick up our first signing of the year, firstly on loan with a guaranteed fee, which we activated as soon as possible. We then lost our starting left back and our loanee left back, as he was signed from FC Tokyo. So here was our movements this window,

Transfers IN

image.png.f6a0c8bcce6c62801d597c71e54d9a8b.pngMichal Kaplan, 18, DRL, (Free Agent) - This Slovak full-back answered a lot of questions that were going to haunt us this season. Backup now, who knows in the future.

r-2002069783.thumb.png.6dd73069e6f53049d4929a2fcfc33933.pngDanto Mizushima, 18, D/DMC, (£165k, Kashima Antlers) - Young centre-back, cheap and looking like they could develop well? I'll make this deal. He'll go on loan for the rest of the season.

r-2002116607.png.4df324ffbca7c62a3be935b462b8914b.pngHiroshi Mine, 18, DC, (Loan, fee rising to £250k, AC Nagano-Parceiro) - This guy was topping all the J3 Aerial charts and top 10 in a lot of others. Had to sign him as a priority.

r-2002093342.thumb.png.4cac6b7629e05cca65c9c5b691d87f26.pngEltiniho, 20, DM/M/AMC, (£35k, E.S Bahia) - We were offered this player and he was worth £35,000 of anyone's money as a decent backup.

image.png.a01f3219a1eb3efa98266df7cd589f3e.pngPatrick Wood, 24, ST, (Free Transfer, Sydney FC) - We've had so many injuries up front, we needed a 'tweener', someone who could play between Target Forward and Poacher. Step forward, Patrick

Then it hit Deadline Day and a flurry of moves were made, mostly to replace what was lost.

r-2002072730.png.95ad63be26a62c81d2f5eba38f0eac9c.pngYoshinobu Yoshida, 18, DRL/ML, (Loan, Yokohama FC) - We lost him to Yokohama FC for £300k, but were able to recapture him on loan.

r-2002115996.thumb.png.c9347fa712d3794e0a9cef31fb823b88.pngYuki Yamashita, 17, M/AMC, (£250k, Ehime FC) - I'd had him on my watchlist all season and another cheap deal meant we had some real talent coming up through the middle

Transfers OUT

2000122560.png.5252a1860bb1f565efcac88ed19b7397.pngGiovani Ferraina, 23, DLC, (£550k, Sagan Tosu FC) - He was excellent for us, but a FGN player limit was biting and we needed to make room for signings.

19350768.png.1861bc008fcf9b4de047b3067ecc51c9.pngRodrigo, 26, DM/M/AMC, (£400k, Oita Trinita) - Same as above. He was excellent for us, but his FGN status meant we needed to get rid for incoming.

r-2002069783.thumb.png.6dd73069e6f53049d4929a2fcfc33933.pngDanto Mizushima, 21, DC, (Loan, AC Nagano-Parceiro) - Nagano lost their best defender to me and then took a backup on loan from us. The CIIIIIRRCCLLEE OF LIIIIFE....

Then it hit Deadline Day and we got hit by a one-two punch on transfers.

r-2002108526.png.5d2b2194a6cf45c633c9684781985c10.pngAkio Chiba, 18, ST, (£925k, Jublio Iwata) - We got taken for a ride by our chairman as he accepted the bid without a sell on. FFFFF. We got him back on loan for the rest of the season though.

r-2002116471.thumb.png.d0dd422348f5e5cde59b13668fd8ae0f.pngKei Iizuka, 18, DM/MC, (£325k, Nagoya Grampus) - Nagoya came in for our backup BWM and I had enough cover there to let him go easily.

2027 Season

First Round

First Leg

(J2) FC Machida 2-1 Tokyo Metro Ota City (J2)

An 89th min penalty and a 94th minute winner saw us go from winning to losing in a blink of an eye.

Second Leg

(J2) Tokyo Metro Ota City 4-0 FC Machida (J2) (Tokyo Metro win 5-2 on aggregate)

A hattrick 15 mins either side of half time by Kanta Yamamoto gave us the win and our first trip out of the First Round in our existence.

Second Round

First Leg

(J2) Tokyo Metro Ota City 0-1 Omiya Ardija (J3)

A really disappointing game in which we were as blunt as a pair of safety scissors

Second Leg

(J3) Omiya Ardija 0-3 Tokyo Metro Ota City (J2) (Tokyo Metro win 3-1 on aggregate)

We were out of sight by half time and easily into the Third Round

Third Round

First Leg

(J2) Tokyo Metro Ota City 4-1 Vissel Kobe (J1)

Despite going in at HT, a goal down, we put the boot, scoring three times within the first 10 mins of the second half, with Kanta Yamamoto topping the cake on 79 mins.

Second Leg

(J1) Vissel Kobe 3-3 Tokyo Metro Ota City (J2) (Tokyo Metro win 7-4 on aggregate)

A constant back and forth in the second half saw us take the lead three times and be pegged back within minutes three times. But we claimed another J1 scalp

Quarter Final

First Leg

(J2) Yokohama FC 1-2 Tokyo Metro Ota City (J2)

We took the win, coming from behind to set us up well for the second leg

Second Leg

(J2) Tokyo Metro Ota City 5-1 Vissel Kobe (J2) (Tokyo Metro win 7-2 on aggregate)

5 goals up before Yokohama managed a reply. Easy money.

Semi Final

First Leg

(J2) Tokyo Metro Ota City 0-4 Kashima Antlers (J1)

Good luck can only go so far and we ran out of luck and effort here.

Second Leg

(J2) Kashima Antlers 0-2 Tokyo Metro Ota City (J2) (Kashima win 4-2 on aggregate)

We hit the ground running, going 2-0 up thanks to a Patrick Wood brace, but we couldn't finish the job and our Cinderella run ended against the eventual losing finalists..

7.png.21d8c16180c27a84204b87016b649329.png

First Round

(J2) Tokyo Metro Ota City 4-3 Bryonvecca (J3)

An absolute madness of a game. We took the lead first, then went behind, then took the lead again, before being pegged back and scoring the winner not long after.

Second Round

(J1) Tokyo Verdy 1969 5-3 Tokyo Metro Ota City (J2)

We tried in vain to stay with the J1 side and their 93rd minute goal gave a false impression of superiority as we crashed out.

Not the best intake, but we've had 4 years of good intakes so far.  Let's look at the top 3 prospects of the 2027 crop.

Top 3 Prospects

image.png.0bfd5625c57ae5683a86868b6faefb6a.pngTomoya Takahashi, 16, ST  We have another target forward in the pipeline, it's just whether or not he'll improve enough to be good enough for the first team.

r-2002130808.png.b076b17a1e7ccefabd3cd750dc4d8816.pngNguyen Hiroto, 15, DR  A good young full-back. It remains to be seen if he can improve enough to get into the first team.

r-2002130817.png.95995d07b4ad8a8e5605627f68ec22c9.pngGo Kumagi, 16, AMRLC  He's going to need retraining, but he's possibly the best out of the rest of the intake

Youth Poaching

Well, we can't really complain. Our facilities are some of the best in Japan, so naturally we're gonna lose players to 'bigger' clubs

I'm not as massively unhappy at this one going, although I could always use a right midfielder tbh

Takahashi looks like he can be a troublemaker in the air, he's super tall compared to the league average.

I like Hiroto more though, has the potential to be a well-rounded full back for you.

I agree on Takahashi, I hope that in a few seasons he'll be good enough to be a rotational piece. I'm not so convinced with Hiroto, as I have a lot of young talent here.

2027 Season Review

Our first season in the J2 started off so hot, we were burning through the opposition. We had seven wins in eight games and were top of the J2 and, by mid-April, we were still top despite losing twice. We then had a bottle of epic proportions. A magnum of your best bottle. We took 14 points from 69, Not nice. This saw us freefall before seeing us finish 14th out of 20. We couldn't do anything to arrest our slide, yet in our two wins, we won 5-0 and 5-1, proving that we had something about us. Central to our slump, was Akio Chiba's unrest spreading to the rest of the team. Chiba was a vital part of our second team which played a lot with our various cup enterprises, but he was constantly seen about town, falling out of nightclubs. That and injuries really messed with our ability to function up front and we paid the price. Top scorer was Takumi Imei, despite his slow start, top-scored with 18 goals, whilst returning on-loan ex-academy winger, Junichi Tobori lead the way again with a record-breaking 16 assists

Offseason business will be.. I don't know, if I'm honest. We've lined up three players already with end-of-contract deals and they're all defensively-minded. We've pretty much got the squad to go ahead next season, but no plan survives contact with the transfer market. The main thing will be re-signing any players that are worth resigning, especially veteran goalkeeper Mashitoshi Kushibiki. Perhaps also getting rid of some deadwood will also be a help

6c7d2a4161843be454fb07940ebd1c82.png

Akuma and Hideo, two old friends with a shared passion for their local soccer team, sat in their usual corner of the Sercow and Hornet pub. The pub's familiar ambiance, with its dark wooden beams and framed photographs of historic matches, provided the perfect backdrop for their evening ritual of dissecting the latest season. This year, their team had shown stunning form in the first ten games of the J2 League, igniting hopes of promotion. "I can't believe we only managed 14 points out of a possible 69 after such a strong start," Akuma grumbled, shaking his head. "We were on fire in those first ten games, Hideo. What went wrong?" Hideo took a sip of his sake and sighed. "Injuries, bad luck, and some terrible refereeing decisions. It's always something, isn't it? But still, falling to 14th place after such a promising start is hard to swallow."

Despite the disappointment in the league, there were bright spots in their season that brought smiles to their faces. The team's unexpected run to the J.League Cup semi-finals had been a thrilling journey, giving the fans something to cheer about. "The cup run was something else, though," Hideo remarked, a glint of pride in his eyes. "Who would have thought we’d get to the semi-finals? Those young players really showed their mettle." Akuma nodded in agreement, the memory of their spirited performances in the cup lifting his spirits. "It was like watching a different team. The energy, the commitment – they played their hearts out. If we can bring that kind of form into the league next season, who knows what we could achieve?" he mused, feeling a renewed sense of hope.

Adding to their optimism was the triumphant return of their star striker, Takumi Imei. After leaving the team for a stint in the J2 League, Imei had come back stronger and more determined, scoring an impressive 18 goals. "Imei's return was a blessing," Akuma said, his tone brightening. "Eighteen goals in one season! He was a game-changer, no doubt about it." Hideo smiled, the thought of Imei's spectacular goals bringing a sense of joy. "He gave us a fighting chance in so many matches. It’s like he never left," he added. Despite the season's ups and downs, the promise shown by the team's cup run and Imei's prolific form gave Akuma and Hideo plenty to look forward to. They clinked their glasses, toasting to the hope that next season would bring the consistency and success they so fervently desired.

2027 Season Review

We started the season well, getting our youth facilities improved to Good. We also junked our entire U-18's staff and got in new ones, with the plan being getting the best in possible to tide us over until our second or third consecutive season in J1, whenever that is. Also part of the plan was to sign a young, hungry staff with an experienced head at the top

We finished 2nd in Prince League, Group 2three points off winners Iwata and a full eight points ahead of third placed Yokohama.

Our stats for the season are very good, but the deep dive looks much betterWe had 6 of the top 10 performing players in the U-18 Prince League, along with two of the top three goalscorers in the league this season, plus two of the top 5 for assists.

Here are our top 5 players for the 2027 Season

1.r-2002116464.png.599c8bb7ae7f816ae4dceadf0dc00e64.pngYoshike Narita, 19, M/AMR/ST (P64, 42G, 8A) He played a monsterous 64 games this season, netting almost at will. He'll be sent out on loan for the next season.

2. r-2002123703.png.ae569038dcf4e5cffc75b4418497d560.pngKazuya Mikado, 17, AMR/ST (P68, 28G, 17A) Wasn't as dominant up front, but made up for it with assists. He's nowhere near the first team, so loan it is.

3. r-2002116468.thumb.png.c84b60ae292b2f7708e52a7522ca47bb.pngTetsuo Shirai, 19, M/AMR (P38, 7G, 13A) Spent the time shuttling between the first team and the U-18's, so his stats are really good within a more compressed timeframe.

4. r-2002123702.png.ac99b6c67a98295b118c97ac0caabfc4.pngShohei Ishii, 19, M/AMC/ST (P39, 14G, 11A) Another one who spent the time shuttling between teams, but double digits in both goals and assists is a hell of a return.

5. r-2002123711.png.cea27362e07b32c0e9e164a6c7e87803.pngYusei Yamashita, 17, M/AMR (P36, 7G, 9A) Spent more time coming off the subs bench than starting, but performed well, when called upon.

Love the level of detail on the Youth Team's progress!

I sent two players on loan that look a lot like Narita and Mikado attribute-wise. Your duo had insane numbers though.

Thank you! There are insane numbers, but they're not good enough to make the first team, which worries me for the youth team level

At this development stage, having good youth staff and facilities is more important than the level of their league.

I would worry about that after they turn 18, it's definitely something to consider when you start loaning out players.

Youth development is kind of my oeuvre, harking back to (90%? of) my other saves . But what I love about this game is that one of the best youth development guys I know, @Jimbokav1971, has such a different style to me, but we get good results.

Same with fitting youth players into a tactical setup. I’m no @_Ben_-style genius, but it’s always interesting to see what you can learn from your betters to see where you can improve.

2027 Season

Goalkeepers.

64a572d0697fd9d47de6421a8cb7f087.png

Masatoshi Kushibiki owned this catagory, allying accurate passing with quality shotstopping. Mateusao was the busier of the two, but not as good in both counts

Defenders.

be4e1b9dd40782c70c1cafff31c12b53.png

Nothing has changed from last season. Our central defenders are big at defending. Marek Jankto topping the list, and our full backs providing the main physical output.

Midfielders.

5a61508e3a9d01b460fbd20b59890e6c.png

Still really annoying that our passing is so poor. Emin Durakovic is the most creative player we have, followed by Junichi Tobori, who is our most accurate crosser and the biggest outlier.

Attackers.

121f7a1fd7f3555bc16d31b8b65bdea0.png

Passing is a poor issue again, but I wonder if that is our reliance on crosses. Movement-wise, our strikers are pretty much in the middle all the time for crosses, so I don't expect dribbles to be high. Takumi Imei is top of our heading table, with his high xG in Scoring outpacing the whole team.

Other Stats and Info.

28464b3c2c18f43ed31ea75a21d1d317.png

Interesting to see Patrick Wood on the list, along with Koshimichi, the BACKUP winger lol. King Imei's shirt was flying out the door though.

Red Sun Rising - Season 6

Maintaaaain...

We survived our first season! For our sophomore season in J2, we were given the brief of Finish mid-table in the J2. Again, we could do without the boom or bust of our usual season. The board also want to be competitive in both the JFA Emperor's Cup and the J.League YBC Levain Cup. We have a £7.25m transfer budget and £44k wage budget. But, again, prudence dictates. I'm not big on spending a ton of money on players, so I could do with some development from the youth side

We were looking to consolidate our position in J2 this season, but it would be a struggle still. First thing in the offseason was the our goalkeeper Matatoshi Kushibiki retired. Luckily, he's become our goalkeeping coach. I've been banging the new stadium drum, but we have not had one chance as the board thinks we won't fill it. Well, that's fine and I agree, but we need our own home and not have Yokohama putting us up for another season. We've also failed to get an affiliate club to send our youth to. We need to get a J3 or JFL side to max out our youth teams potential.

End of March 2028 Transfer Window

We had absolutely zero real priorities in the off-season. Maybe some junking of deadwood perhaps, but with the defensive reinforcements we had coming in at the end of their contracts, I was looking to be very reactive in the transfer market and spend our time looking at the J3 stats. However, Kushibiki's sudden retirement put Goalkeeper at the top of our list.

FC Tokyo were generous as ever and the loans were in lieu of actually buying players, so bolstering up the squad for cheap. Because I am haha.

Transfers IN

r-2002114419.png.5c76bbb99e4b61e79fdb52a9089765cc.pngSamuela Singh, 19, DRC, (Free Agent) - A Fijian! Don't often see this sort of guy about, so he's been brought in as transfer profit fodder.

r-2002116607.png.d3aa30ccfc434d21d6d68ecaf4842c4e.pngHiroshi Mine, 19, DC, (£250k, AC Nagano Parciero) - This guy dominated J3 two seasons ago in defensive stats, so we swooped him on loan last season and signed him permanently.

r-2002071322.png.3f4ec41d266e4839c2959c6160cfcc3d.pngYuki Miyaji, 21, GK, (Free Transfer, Ventforet Kofu) - We desperately needed a backup domestic keeper and this guy fit the bill. He's third choice now, but does give us U-18 flexibility

r-2002115992.png.bb98fe779ea031cade93fa57f79e20c9.pngHiroshi Yoshioka, 18, DC/DM, (Free Transfer, Ehime FC) - A decent young defender who could be loaned out for experience and game time.

r-2000172914.png.29d49c03efe20378786a5811bca82be2.pngTae-Yang Kim, 18, DL, (Free Transfer, Ulsan Hyundai) - A good domestic left back that'll mean a good pre-season battle between him and Michal

r-2002071942.png.9baf636c2578126014219ff4cbcd5424.pngShotaro Nagai, 21, MRL/AML, (Free Transfer, Yokohama FC) - He was decent for us here in his loan spell, so we snapped him up on a free.

2000084640.png.6cb9e94a10f32f3371eeef61206ba479.pngSamuel, 24, DR, (£44k, América Futebol Clube MG) - We were struggling for FGN spots, but I couldn't let this go, especially for the price I paid.

r-2002095304.png.c74bb604311feba1e3b35c400e1e7224.pngHidenori Hayashi, 20, DC, (£1m, Shonan Bellmare) - We paid out our biggest transfer fee yet to bring our boy home from J1. He'll be an excellent squad player

r-23472682.png.0a1aa745c4f076848384a8ac4cc1a47c.pngBernardinho, 21, AMRL/ST, (£50k, Paysandu Sport Club) - In an absolute deadline day panic, I found this Brazilian/Japanese dual national in my scout reports. Signed.

Loans IN

r-2002070457.png.e5a7936b81f0d2e6069e4b59f8a20a25.png Takanori Tsuchida, 22, GK, (Loan, FC Tokyo) - I played a blinder here. Getting Tsuchida on loan for 2 years, so that our developing U-18 keepers will be matured enough

r-2002070467.png.83d2b5d5c5ac927e046fad6e7f4d6b69.pngShingo Kudo, 22, M/AMRC, (Loan, FC Tokyo) - A really good player which will only help us for free.

r-2002115152.png.2aaf768774d3787e832611eba72e4cbf.pngTaiki Hemmi, 19, ST, (Loan, FC Tokyo) - Another good player that we needed to get in, due to the striking reshuffle. He'll do well.

r-34041129.thumb.png.4b7d04ff81204009293c6c08b9a089bf.png Keisuke Sunamori, 20, M/AML, (Loan, Yokohama F.Marinos) - Another ex-loanee that I brought back for hopefully a decent sophomore performance

Transfers OUT

A lot of these deals were ones I did not really want to make in an ideal world, but for most of the deals, the money was too good to ignore. Especially on the chairman's part.

f3880e94b591af491738e529a1a200bb-removebg-preview.png.d12981eaa8028ae81e41e5a7c04503e9.png Yuta Suzuki, 23, DC, (£13k, Roilec FC) - This was an easy choice, He played 17 games last season, but never convinced and with the new reinforcements, he was out

r-2002092763.png.058669c15b6f1e62a48199149f50d08a.png Hiroaki Ozawa, 23, M/AMRC/ST, (£500k, Shimizu S-Pulse) - Same as above. He didn't convinced in 20 games last season so he was out the door

r-2002093284.thumb.png.d3d9ea9afb357ef5a1b0cbb823d7beed.pngTakashi Ishido, 21, D/M/AMR, (£650k, FC Machida Zelvia) - He was a really good player for us, but the optics of making a huge profit and replacing for cheap was hard to ignore.

r-2002108531.png.80f3c5dc50002560b9041428327298e6.pngKazuma Shimazu, 19, ST, (£2m, JEF United Chiba) - This sale really hurt me as the chairman took the initiative and accepted the bid over my head on deadline day, leaving us scrambling.

We also had 13 players heading out on loan to J3 and beyond.

End of August 2028 Transfer Window

We were floating about the playoff spots in J2 when the transfer window rolled around and, apart from our backup keeper moving later in the window, we had no plans to sell or buy anyone. However, Fate, as ever, took a hand and our chairman ended accepting big offers for our key players, which had us scrambling hard for new ones. Other than that, we were playing 'Vindaloo' football and entertaining the fans. No upgrades are forthcoming as we're at the apex of sustainability.

Transfers IN

2028 Season

First Round

(J1) FC Tokyo 5-3 Tokyo Metro Ota City (J2)

A one-and-done as we were beaten by our parent club. A 93rd minute goal put a shine on the score for FC Tokyo, but the truth was we were easily beaten

popupRSR(8).png.a4d794335f87eab3b2635cc16855706c.png

First Round

First Leg

(J3) FC Osaka 2-0 Tokyo Metro Ota City (J2)

Just an all-time clanger of a game. We played like crap and were punished.

Second Leg

(J2) Tokyo Metro Ota City 5-1 FC Machida (J2) (Tokyo Metro win 5-3 on aggregate)

This was the Bernardinho show for the win. His hat-trick settled nerves as we put in a focused performance.

Second Round

First Leg

(J1) Kawasaki Frontale 4-4 Tokyo Metro Ota City (J2)

What a game this must have been for the supporters. 0-3 down, then 2-4 down, only to score goals in the 95th & 96th minutes to equalise

Second Leg

(J2) Tokyo Metro Ota City 5-3 Kawasaki Frontale (J1) (Tokyo Metro win 9-7 on aggregate)

Another late goal (94th minute) put us into extra time and two goals in the first half of extra time by Tetsuo Shirai and Takumi Imei put us into the next round

Third Round

First Leg

(J2) Zweigen Kanazawa 1-0 Tokyo Metro Ota City (J2)

With the game in the dying seconds, a misplaced pass by Jankto was intercepted by their full-back who ran 10 yards before hitting a dipping 30 yard strike over the keeper for the winner

Second Leg

(J1) Tokyo Metro Ota City 2-0 Zweigen Kanazawa (J2) (Tokyo Metro win 2-1 on aggregate)

An early goal from Imei brought the tie back into balance and Patrick Wood sealed the match midway through the second ha

Quarter Final

First Leg

(J1) Nagoya Grampus Eight 3-2 Tokyo Metro Ota City (J2)

Looked like a bridge too far as we kept bringing ourselves to within a goal, but couldn't tie it up

Second Leg

(J2) Tokyo Metro Ota City 2-3 Nagoya Grampus Eight (J1) (Tokyo Metro win 6-4 on aggregate)

0-3 down before we got any kind of reply in. A poor way to bow out.

Top 3 Prospects

kpr-removebg-preview.png.de9d56a5b432ec45b782a6a3d7d9c098.pngYuki Uruno, 16, GK  A decent enough young keeper. He'll need a loan out when he reaches 18, but he could be a backup for us.

2028 Promotion Playoffs

oita-ai-brush-removebg-mhdpxkwj.png.0be3575bce26651ab57d7c62c3ead6ba.pngOita Trinita 2-1 Tokyo Metro Ota City pic-removebg-preview.png.8366eed275b6f6567921b51bd888c813.png

We snuck into the Promotion Playoffs by virtue of three straight wins at the business end of the season. This put us against the team directly above us, FC Oita Trinita.
Things didn't go well for us to begin with as we went behind after ten minutes with a simple finish from the edge of the area. Our play wasn't up to standard for the entire first half so we were very lucky to go in at half time just the goal down. We showed some life in the second half, however and on 60 minutes, Bernardinho stood the ball up for Takumi Imei to head the ball home to level up the scores. However, we conceded a poor header from a corner on 68 minutes to go 1-2 down. I then made a rookie mistake, by thinking we could turn it around in the second leg, so I settled for the loss. Sadly, it turned out that this was not a two-legged tie and we were out of the playoffs at the first time of asking.
