This is so, so comfortable for Germany. I thought that they were supposed to be “there for the taking”?

Their defense and transition has a lot of question marks.

Their possession and creation in final third are good.

Bit like England?

good advert so far for a 16-team Euros

Can't wait until two years time, when France put 14 goals past Kyrgyzstan.

Right before the game, they asked Christoph Kramer how easy this match would be for Germany. He said it's going one of two ways: they press high, and it could be a tough match, or they sit back, and it'll be easy. Well, we don't know what would have happened with a different tactic, but he was right about sitting back not being a good option.

Would have been incredible but would have to leave out Foden, Saka or Bellingham.

Bellingham next to Rice even if it blunts him slightly in that situation.

Nah we’d just cram them all in then scratch our heads when the side isn’t balanced.

Funny how football works sometimes.

Mittelstädt got relegated with Hertha, went to 16th place Stuttgart last year.

A year later, Stuttgart finishes second and he's Germany's starting left-back.

He's 27, so it's really out of nowhere.

Very clumsy, looked like the first contact was outside and then second contact inside

Yeah there looked to be a second foul there clearly in the box.

Porteous has always had a wild streak. Just a stupid challenge to make. I get he had to try and block the chance, but you don't dive in like that.

Germany's defensive weaknesses do need a side with the will and ability to exploit them. Don't think anybody doubted that they can pass and that some of them can finish
