Why do you say that?

FM 2005 was just CM 03-04 updated with superficial changes to the UI.

I wouldn't call them "superficial", they had to update the interface because Eidos retained the rights to the "look and feel" of CM.

To be honest I doubt people would get a 10% off discount, I guess the possibility is there but I don't know how you could even roll that out. Does steam even allow developers to have discounts for certain people if they own another specific game?

FM 2017 was available at a discount for owners of previous editions, 5% per edition up to 20%.

Considering the European transfer markets close at the end of August (and SI are an  English company, granted SEGA are not), I'd want a release early/mid September at latest. Why aren't they doing all their development, testing etc throughout the year then all that's needed to do is a quick data update. November (and now march) is just so slack.

And their game is a magnitude smaller. According to a web search there are just 19,000 players in FC25.

You do realise that this is factually not true? On steam only https://steamcharts.com/app/2669320  - 60k players as of right now. Then there is EA Play platform on PC as well which doesn't have this number public. Then there is playstation 5, 4, all the xbox series, mobile games, switch...

FM on steam (realistically biggest chunk of players play on Steam)  has about 57k at the moment. https://steamcharts.com/app/2252570

It's a magnitude bigger than FM could ever dream of being and you're lying to yourself and everyone else if you think otherwise

I think he meant the actual players inside the game.

That's about 400.00 each year, give or take, depending on how many the researchers manage to scout ;)

I'm sorry, but March 25 is an utter p*ss take, the seasons almost over.

They should just bin FM25 & set up for an August release every future year.

More likely there will be new FM25 on march 2025 and DLC for next year database update.

Just base on my guess.

SI's business model is based on annual releases and their license agreements will be structured to match.

Now, they could spend a lot of money on lawyers and negotiations with the people they have licenses with, maybe lose of them, and change that model to either cancel FM25 or make FM26 a DLC patch, but what will actually happen is that they'll release FM25 in March and then release FM26 in November and both games will sell incredibly well.

What could have been today...
CDN media

Today would have been irrelevant because we'd be 2 weeks deep into beta saves :(

And that would have gone hand in hand with the speculation thread, sad times

Surely the biggest question on peoples' minds is how it could have been released today, and now it's been delayed 4 months? Like surely there was some realism to it coming out today? There's no way that it would have been as bad as some people are making it out to be.

I feel like they knew they didn't have enough time, however they didn't want to keep delaying it bit by bit just in case - so they set a penultimate deadline at the end of the financial year. 2 birds, 1 stone I guess.

I expect they truly believed they could release something by this date, but probably deep down knew they'd still be playing catch-up if they did.  I then expect that something serious happened that changed that, particularly when it came just a few days after they'd made a big fanfare about announcing pre-orders.  If you know it's being delayed, you don't go through all that knowing the reputational hit you're going to take.  As for the length of the delay, either the problem they hit was so enormous that they need that time, or they've simply decided that if they're going to take a hit, they may as well take a big hit and sweep up more problems.  Festive period likely means staffing is thin on the ground, no-one really gets back up to speed until mid-to-late January, then they've got a month or so of hitting it hard and making sure the release is as good as it can be.

Does that mean that they took a big hit this year? They paid for licensing but had no or very little revenue to show for it.

Well the massive buying will have effect in March release date by my opinion why me as a user would spend around 40-50$ and then in 6 to 8 months again for a similar product so a lot of users would chose to have the 25 or 26, and that's it

Yeh! Get the game out in August! Before the transfer windows close! That's a great idea!

So...don't then?  People that don't want to shell out for two products don't have to, people that do want to are free to buy.  Deciding not to sell any product at all and denying everyone the choice, and denying themselves of the money is mental.

Game's 30-ish quid at release anyway every year through some partnerships. I remember shop.to always being cheaper than steam.

Unless you live in New Zealand and the game is $90 which is about £42.

We get robbed blind in NZ for video-games, made sense in the days of CD's (I once took a 4 hour round trip drive to buy FM 08 or 09 I'd pre-ordered) because they at least did cost more to deliver etc, no excuse beyond price gouging for digital sales.

I currently live in Vietnam and the game is about £25, so I'm probably going to pre-order before we leave here so I can save some money.

I know you can buy elsewhere for cheaper but I'm old and stuck in my ways so prefer to just use steam.

One advantage of FM25 releasing in March is the default stats for each player should be more realistic and there won't be any need for further transfer updates. I do find my enjoyment of the EPL is slightly diminished in FM24, for instance, when Chelsea's best IRL player Cole Palmer usually ends up not being played and sometimes ends up in the championship in 2-3 years. It's not SI's fault as I don't think anyone could have predicted in November 2023 or even March 2024 just how much he would develop. By March 2025 we should know who 24/25's equivalents to Palmer in terms of rapid development are to a much better degree of accuracy than we would in November 2024. The situation mostly sucks, but that's a small positive from it.

25 quid? Nice!

Steam won't activate the game at all next door in Cambodia :(

Need to think about what you are saying, the transfer window will still be open in August ;)

Was a bit more in the end more like 27-28 quid I think, because yes I've pre-ordered based on nothing but saving a few quid (NZD In my case) 😂

Why won't steam work in Cambodia?

(The Steam store was kind of banned earlier this year in Vietnam for not having a local office and not paying local taxes, but works just fine even without resorting to a VPN)

Don't know why we're banned - maybe they've got us on a list of money-laundering countries, or maybe it's the Catch-22 of our market is too small. Been that way for years now. Maybe I should nip over the border and activate it in Vietnam!
