(FM 2024) Started from the bottom, now we are here. (A journeyman save): Unemployed (Maybe Turkey is my natural home)

Wow! You got fired from your previous team before heading into United Kingdom to get hired by Working. That was not expected to see that coming. I wonder what happened to Latina after you got fired and who they replace you. As far as I know, you should have posted the picture of the current manager of your former teams so that I want to know how they're working when you're no longer with them.

Latina went to Serie D and therefore since it is not playable it does not show any manager who is in charge of them.

End of season review.

We finished 16th in the league with 63 points from 46 games. I am pleased with the outcome. We can build further next season and possibly challenge for the playoffs. It is a bit like the Al Dhaid job but the UAE and UK are different when it comes to football management. We have shown our quality in avoiding relegation for the second time in this save and we are slowly but surely building a reputation of being a relegation rescue-specialist. That niche in football management can help me get a certain type of job in management. Let's hope we can progress further.

  • Sahaj Oberoi changed the title to (FM 2024) Started from the bottom now we are here (A journeyman save): Job 7: Woking (Saved Woking from relegation, on the quest of progressing Woking incrementally)

We have been offered a new contract by Woking. I have accepted the contract extension and I am delighted to have been offered it. I am slowly but surely turning around my managerial career and I am happy about it.

Obviously a lot of you have been sharing a lot of tactical suggestions in the beginning of the save when my time at clubs weren't successful but yes first I used a Gegenpress tactic which worked well as Zimbabwe manager and at Al Dhaid, it failed at Latina and then I tweaked my tactics again where now I am using a Wing Play tactic and it has worked well at Woking.

One of the things I am happy with is my evolution as a manager and how things have been working for me now.

Also here are the transfers we did throughout the season, quite a number of deals have happened.

We played the first 14 games at Woking in the new season and got 30 points and we left them in 4th position. However this is the first time I got a new job in the save after leaving a club where the new team had to pay compensation to get me. I stayed at Woking for just over a year. So we now have a new job, I am now the new manager of Northampton Town. We are 18th in the Vanarama National League currently and this is what the squad looks like. I will be using the same Wing Play tactic as it was successful at Woking. We are slowly climbing up the ladder in English football.

Maybe Chris Wilder wants the Northampton Town job. To be honest, I think there has been so much pressure to perform that I ended up quitting the Northampton Town job after just 6 games in charge. This is how the games went, and yeah when someone is waiting for you to fall while sympathizing with you at the same time, that is a dangerous situation. So I decided to walk.

I landed the Cheltenham Town job. Hanging on in England. I am loving this. This is what the squad looks like. From bouncing around in places like Turkey, Zimbabwe, China and UAE initially to now cutting it in a decent level of football first in Italy and then in England is progress, it is not as quick as moving to a top club in a matter of years but it is still progress. My methods have value. I have finally come across tactics that work for me, one is the Gegenpress and the other is Wing Play. So with Cheltenham we are going to use the Gegenpress tactic.

End of season review. (2031-32 season)

We finish in a respectable 11th place after getting 70 points from 46 games. We were in charge of 15 of them so we got 25 points from 15 games. I hope next season we can compete for the playoffs. And that is what I am hoping for. Also the Gegenpress tactic worked again, after abandoning it in the last couple of clubs. Next season is the season, where hopefully we can do something with Cheltenham. And here are some of the transfers we made.

  • Sahaj Oberoi changed the title to (FM 2024) Started from the bottom now we are here (A journeyman save): Job 9: Cheltenham Town (Steady start at Cheltenham)

This was a big cause for concern and we have no money to spend next season at Cheltenham Town. So yeah, I quit and I walked away. I left them in a respectable position with my stock still reasonably high enough to attract a job of a reasonable level. Contrary to my first few clubs where I struggled massively, in the last few jobs I have had, I have done well, barring Latina, who were in a doomed position in Serie C anyway. Built up myself as a bit of a survival and galvanizing specialist. I took Woking towards a playoff contention spot, I made Al Dhaid challenge for the UAE First Division title, About Northampton, Chris Wilder is a jealous guy who pretends to sympathize on the save while coveting the hotseat himself, yes I have got a bit of a rivalry there, and with Cheltenham, I brought them up to a respectable position in the league.

I now have a new job on my save after being unemployed for 5 months. I am back in Turkey. I am now the new manager of Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super Lig. This is the highest level of football I have managed in, on the save so far. So I hope this job goes really well, because it could be the golden ticket towards better jobs. The tactic we are going to be using is the Gegenpress tactic. Also Italy won Euro 2032 on the save after beating Germany in the final.

Mid season review. (2032-33 season)

We are doing well here at Kasimpasa. We went on a 6 game winning streak earlier in the league but since then we have stuttered. But we have a chance to qualify for European football. I hope we do. This is quite the jump from the lower levels of English football and some of the other places we have been at and we are holding our own.

End of season review. (2032-33 season)

We finished 9th in the league with 48 points from 34 games. The second half of the season was not as good as the first half. But it is okay, we finished mid table. The board wanted us to finish there, of course we were aiming for higher when we were in a very good position. But we can definitely improve on it next season if we get things right.

You were 6th and just 3 points from the UEFA positions in January, which is more than decent for Kasimpasa level. Probably 2-3 smart signings amd you could have gotten Europe... and then you decided to change virtually the entire team, which makes no sense for me unless I am missing on something.

We were over the wage bill and we could not sign new players unless we sold others.

I quit the Kasimpasa job after just a year in charge because we could not field an eligible team since we did not have any fit keepers. Considering the situation, I felt it was an appropriate time to resign because we did not have even one fit keeper in the youth system as well. So that is concerning and it prompted me to leave the club.

Bit of an odd reason to resign. You are the manager, it is your job to make sure you have enough players, no? I feel you do this a lot, you overhaul squads too much. Evolution, not revolution, is generally a better way to play.

I did. You know what happened? My first choice goalkeeper got injured and my second choice goalkeeper was somehow ineligible to play the league game. And I looked through for a goalkeeper in my youth setup and there was no one which I found absolutely astonishing. Yeah, while on the surface it seems like an odd reason to resign, it is entirely justifiable at least to me.

Do what brings you the most joy, mate :)  I like stories where not everything goes to plan

Thank you very much.

In the beginning I was struggling to find the right tactics. But after I took the Zimbabwe job, I used the Gegenpress system and stayed at the job for a solid 3 years to bed it in. Then I used it at Al Dhaid and we were in the race for promotion in the UAE first division. It did not work out in my next team Latina in Italy in Serie C.

But then I moved to English football where I took charge of Woking, I used the Wing Play system, we comfortably avoided relegation and then in the next season were in a battle to get promoted. Then I took the Northampton job, used the Wing Play system, but then Chris Wilder was watching me like a hawk on the save hoping that he sneaks in, so I resigned because I did not want to be at a club where I was not wanted. Then I managed Cheltenham, kept them in mid table, left because the club gave me no money to invest the following season, and then I moved to Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super League (Super Lig), we had a safe mid table finish at the end of the first season I was there, and then the second season the whole goalkeeper fiasco happened which made me resign. I went back to the Gegenpress system at Kasimpasa and it was relatively successful.

So yeah now I am hoping for a good club or country to take over as manager.

I am really happy to announce this. My next job is a huge upgrade from Kasimpasa. And here it is. I have officially landed the Eintracht Frankfurt job in the Bundesliga. Top club, top facilities, top players. Honestly, I am over the moon that I landed the job. After just over 3 months of being unemployed I got offered this role. So yes, I am thrilled to be a part of this project. And yes, the aim is to build the club to such a point where I can challenge the big boys and become a big club and/or do so well, that we get interviewed by a top club and land an even bigger job. This is what the squad looks like.

The tactic I am using is the Gegenpress tactic. I am sticking to it.

End of season review (2033-34 season)

We survived the drop and finished in 11th place with Eintracht Frankfurt. Things are not that amazing but we are plodding on and we did just about enough to survive. We finished 6 points clear of the drop.

Another parallel story I want to talk about as a subplot on this save is an important person I met in my managerial career and that is my assistant manager at Eintracht Frankfurt, and it is none other than Memphis Depay.

So we will talk about his career as well and follow it.

We had a takeover at Eintracht Frankfurt. Turbulence in the board after the new owner John Coates took over, made me resign. I don't want to be in a situation where we end up in the doldrums. We leave Eintracht Frankfurt in 14th place in the league after 14 points from 15 games and they are also in the quarter final of the DFB Pokal. The board were trying to get rid of me earlier as well, and I can say I jumped before I was pushed. We had an okay record at Eintracht Frankfurt, not too bad and not too good. A 33% win rate meant that while we were safe from relegation, that extra bit of results to keep us comfortable was not there, and it was 10 months of awkwardness at the club as the fans did not really want me there. Some fans thought I was doing a satisfactory job, but in my next job the one thing I am clearly looking for is a bit of freshness.

We now have a new job. It is a bit left field but the papers and reporters in England suggested that we were favourites for the job, so I took it. I am now the new manager of Oxford United in League One in England. We are back to England. And I am thrilled to be away from the big club pressure. Really exciting challenge here at Oxford United and I am keen to see what can we do with the squad. We will be using the Wing Play tactic here at Oxford United because the Gegenpress tactic went a bit stale at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Meanwhile in the parallel story of Memphis Depay, he is still the assistant manager at Eintracht Frankfurt. So I wish him the best in the future and we will be following his progress.

I quit the Oxford United job, because the Rotherham job became available. If I had applied while I was still in a job, I would have been sacked because of a board promise that says "No club job applications". So I resigned from the job. Let's hope the next job is better.

Some are my signings, some are the board's.

My plan is to sign players based on stats in the competitions we are in. I focus on marginal gains more than anything else.

Resigned as Rotherham United manager. Did not quite go to plan. A job in Turkey became available so I decided to apply for that as they sacked someone I knew in game. We left them in 17th place in League Two after getting 21 points from 19 games. This time I truly don't know where my managerial career will lead me.
