Hello everyone. First time writing a thread here. Moving my updates from the Good Player & Team Guide forum so its easier for me to hopefully write as I play instead of waiting for mid-season/end of season.

Not sure if people here prefer the screenshots without the spoiler tag or not, please do let me know if anyone is reading this.

I like to use the spoiler tag in the other forum since I'm sharing the thread with other players, and sometimes scrolling through the screenshots can take too much time in terms of quick read/loading the images.

Valencia 2023/2024

Valencia is one of my favourite team. Those 2000s team were something to behold even looking back now.

Filled with some of my all time favourites - Canizares, Ayala, Albelda, Baraja, Aimar, Kily Gonzalez, Carew, and two amongst the top of my all time list, Claudio Lopez and Gaizka Mendieta.

I can even recall most of the other players back then, Angloma, Carboni, Djukic, Pellegrino, Vicente, Mista, Miguel Angulo, Rufete..

That said, been a while since I dived in FM with Valencia, so hopefully I can keep this going long term. Been struggling to get a save going since my Parma Kulusevski FM20 updates.

Thoughts:

As mentioned before this would be my 3rd try with Valencia because had to restart twice (first time forgot to delete the fake inc files, and 2nd time I was missing too many players that I could be interested in). This one couldn't be completely different to the previous one.

Valencia either doing too well or the others are not performing as expected since we are top of the table going into the midseason break. Using 4-1-2-2-1 Vertical Tiki Taka, I been happy with our performances most of the time. Though there are some matches where we would get 1-3 key highlights only.

I was unable to get my forwards going in the previous save, especially Hugo Duro. But this save he's been good, though the most surprising player been Fran Perez who has been our best player so far :D

Did you know he is the son of former Valencia iconic winger, Rufete:brock:

Contract wise, Mosquera, Duro, Guillamon (twice), Fran Perez, all wanted a new one in October :onmehead:Had to tie up Mosquera up early because of his low release clause, but Duro agreed to drop it after talking to him. Guillamon and Fran Perez followed suit when I reminded them Duro was being professional.

Then a month later, I realised Duro only had a £22m release clause, too low especially for his in-form performances. Had to tie him up to a new one, and since Fran Perez been our best player, he deserved one as well. Guillamon has 3 more years and a £69m release clause, so I will delay getting him a new one since Valencia wage budget is very limited. We were over budget but managed to have some flexibility when the Board increased it to £561k (from £480k) p/w during Mosquera's contract negotiation.

In a cost saving move, I terminated Amallah's loan and saved £15.5k p/w. Then my scout reminded of De Gea's availability on a free transfer and decided to sign him on £14k p/w for mentoring purposes (I spent 3 days irl mulling this move over haha).

On a negative note, Correia also wanted a new contract but he is asking too much (almost £40k p/w) and I'm not sure he will be my long term RB. Had to brace for his unhappiness until December when he dropped it because there were 3 teams showing interest in him.

On final note, I will listen to offer to Correia and Diakhaby (Saudi and EPL teams showing strong interest) and will also terminate Yermenchuk's £38.5k p/w loan (Duro been really durable for me and because he been performing well, I didn't feel the need to rotate him much). Diego Lopez and the returning Mari (out for 5 months since start of season) are the backup for Duro if needed. Mari already scored twice since returning from injury off the bench - took him 2 minutes to score on his first return after coming on as a sub in the 80th minute). Diego Lopez been the most disappointing player so far because he kept getting injured, but I hope he will get better after the Winter break as he is in my long term plan.

P.s: Hugo Gozalez has an xG of 4.45 and he got 5 goals so far. I thought this was interesting since he seems to be outplaying his attributes. Another player I want to keep, even if only as a squad player long term (he is starting now over Diego Lopez).

January Transfer Window Update 2

Transfers IN

Spoiler

On 23rd of January, I made a player sale and the board adjusted my wage budget automatically - reducing by 62k p/w to gain £7 million+ transfer budget to £9m+.

My only planned with the initial £2m Winter transfer budget was to get one Barca Youth players targets with such release clause (all of them rejected me for most of January though), and also to bring back Juan Mata after his release from Kobe.

Then on the 28th, the Board called a meeting and added another £600k+ to the transfer budget. So, here we go, might as well make use of them.

Transfers made by me are highlighted in grey, others were agreed before season start since I'm using Real World mode.

image.png.626684767c7fdaf620e27c6dc2fa8b49.pngimage.png.fd55d8e366ec376bd97dc0551c6b5d42.png

Transfers OUT

Spoiler

Similar to transfers in, initially I didn't planned on moving on anybody unless I received an offer for Correia and Diakhaby.

Around 3rd week of January, Newcastle came in for Diakhaby for around £23m but I feel I can get £40m from Saudi, so I rejected it. I thought that's the end of it for now. Whilst Diakhaby was still away for AFCON, in the final 2-3 days, they came back in with £32m+ offer and Diakhaby was unhappy I rejected the latest offer.

I would have accepted it if the 2nd offer had came in before the deal to loan back Saatci wasn't already finalised, since the reason was because no spot with Diakhaby still here. Had to agree on a promised to sell Diakhaby once I get a replacement in, luckily Saatci being loaned back didn't count as a replacement.

Foulquier was only sold once Girona showing interest in him, but Cadiz made the better offer. I wanted to keep everyone for the sole reason we were top of La Liga and not planning any new additions :D

Rivero was done via an intermediary and I feel we got great value considering his contract expiring in the summer. Similar to Foulquier, only offered him out once West Ham was showing interest but turns out EPL transfer window was already closed the day before. Luckily MLS team came for him. I would have kept him otherwise just as backup (like Domenech, Rivero also been at Valencia for almost 10 years).

image.png.d030f4257bcd1541624da9e552da02c3.png

New Players

Spoiler

David De Gea

As mentioned in Update 1, deliberated a few IRL days before signing in De Gea, mainly for mentoring purposes alongside Domenech. What I didn't mentioned was the broken ankle he suffered in training that keeping him out for 3+ months. Unlucky, but also ease my selection dilemma for the Copa Del Rey.

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.f9fe7a20811a4b6a196a9f7783a05eca.png

Marc Guiu

Out of the few Barca targets with a release clause around £2m, only Guiu would even consider talking to Valencia and made it to contract negotiation. I had to wait until end of the month because he was still injured from a torn thigh muscle. He will challenged Mari long term as the backup for Duro.

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.aa03675df7f116e96a49bbf6f33b2214.png

Lucas Taibo

This is a slightly weird transfer. I talked with the agent about possible interest, but decided not worth it. Then a few days later he came back and threatening me he won't do business with me in the future. Taibo on his own would have been easy walking away from, but his other clients consisted of some players that I might be interested in in the future. So I had to came back for Taibo and develop him for Valencia u19s and eventually Mestalla.

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.c2458326ea68c63f7baf96b23152ee7d.png

Juan Mata

Valencia Icon - I love this kind of signings in FM. I already brought back Marchena as coach, hoping to get more in the future (especially Fran Perez's Dad as DoF).

Will provide mentoring and backup for Javi Guerra. - since Almeida need to back Pepelu sometimes, and Pepelu need to backup Guillamon:D

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.63d0981e24ffc8e651a06f4b0922c051.png

Aimar Vicandi

You guess it :D

Signed Vicandi because of Aimar in his name. It is also my plan to get the more expensive Aimar from Osasuna in the future to challenge Javi Guerra's position.

Pablo Aimar himself is a coach with Argentina, so far he is refusing to come back to Valencia (Roberto Ayala as well).

My plan for Vicandi is as backup to Fran Perez, since Hugo Gonzalez and Diego Lopez seems to perform better on the LW. I love his 18 workrate, what decided this transfer for me apart from the name.

Was also able to negotiate £800k less than his £4.4m release clause, which helps to push this transfer :D

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.52c88a80056d9895cfc5c096a6600672.png

Serdar Saatci

I knew Diakhaby wanted to leave Valencia, so I narrowed down on Saatci as his replacement, as backup to Mosquera for the RCB position. Since I sometimes used Mosquera as a RB in difficult matches, I needed someone who can step up as first choice quality but also happy to play as backup.

I only loaned him back to Braga after I rejected the first offer for Diakhaby, if the 2nd offer had come sooner and with Diakhaby leaving, he would be playing for Valencia already right now. Still a good deal since he is a starter for Braga, so he can continue his development.

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.518cc79219f9c4fbb39de8c093f182ba.png

Valencia Finances

Spoiler

This was after the sales of Rivero.

£4.9m was used to improve the training facilities, and we also starting to pay £400k per month on a £27m loan the Board took.

Not enough budget for Youth facilities improvement, but we managed to request Youth recruitment and Junior coaching upgrades.

Super happy with my wage budget management, from £550k+ to £428k+ p/w currently. All contract renewals were agreed to start end of season, so the numbers will balloon up for next season. The target is to keep it under £550k p/w since that's the La Liga wage budget for Valencia players registration this season (not expecting a huge increase after reading other Valencia's saves)

Cancelling Amallah and Yeremchuk's loans (almost £60k p/w total) plus Gabriel Paulista (£78k p/w) leaving for Atletico were key in such drastic reduction in wages.

Other Transfers

Spoiler

Highlighted some of the interesting non-pre-agreed transfers in grey.

Kayode especially a massive transfer for Real Madrid since he displaced Carvajal right away and been playing really well in our matches.

Rest of Top Talents

image.thumb.png.4331cbda313384ddc7b68d2b854dd47f.png

Welcome to Valencia!

Spoiler

J. Gonzalbez

Valencia-born and Resolute personality, unfortunately in a position not in need since Ozkacar and Yarek are in my long term planning. But he has time to develop to displace Ozkacar long term.

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.eda929022f3c1a5ec226c8c44a846de0.png

J. Serrano

My wingers are the most filled positions for my long term planning at the moment, so it will take extraordinary development for Serrano to be part of the squad. He is also a year older than the other two Elite Talents from YCI(1).

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.f2d0b6d3e7a3d311aee28d0208445493.png

V. Vegas

Touted as the Star Graduate despite only 4.5* PA compared to the other two 5*, the first thing that caught my eye was his 197cm height. But his 5 workrate is alarming, something I hope to focus on going forward. Impressive Determination and First Touch helped his strong case to be part of squad in the near future. Exited for him to challenge Mari and Guiu as Duro's backup in the next few years.

Valencia YCI Track-Record

Spoiler

Pretty good first YCI overall, even-though doesn't cover my position of needs - RB, DM, MC.

Out of the 3, hoping Vegas to be involved in a year or two to challenge Mari and Guiu as Duro's backup, Gonzalbez hopefully develop well enough in 5 years time to displace Ozkacar long term.

Semifinal Leg Dos

Spoiler

Scored an early goal and withstood Real's barrage until the penalty shootout. Bellingham put his PK wide but we were only able to went that far because of Ozkacar late goal in the leg uno and De Gea's heroics in goal. He justified my selection over Domenech who got 6.4 in the first match.

Final

Spoiler

Credit to Osasuna - they battered us in the first half.

Had to substitute Ozkacar at half time since his anxiousness contributed to our poor performance at the back.

Or so I thought.

Not even 1 minute, Osasuna scored a 2nd goal.

For the first time ever this season, 5 minutes after 2nd goal, I subbed out my DM to add a 2nd striker to get back into the game. Somehow it worked and we owed our first trophy to Hugo Gonzalez performance.

Results so far in 2024...

Spoiler

February was brutal for Valencia.

Injuries started to pile up, luckily none too serious to key players.

Mamardashvilli played the Cadiz game then was out for the next 3 games with flu.

Domenech started in his place and did really well (7+ OR) over the next 4 games, but he had a bad game in the leg uno of CDR against Real Madrid (6.4).

Still not fully recovered from Flu, I made the big call to give De Gea his first start again Vallecano, and he repaid it big time by averaging 7.5+ OR over the next 4 games. I couldn't bring back Mamardashvilli right away because De Gea got 2 MoTM.

De Gea kept us in the leg dos of CDR and that alone was worth it for me to sign him.

Situation 1

Spoiler

This came up the day after CDR Final. I'm not sure if this play that big of a factor on what happen for the rest of the season, but I would like to think the distraction did something.

image.thumb.png.99369ba5976cb1bdab9e7f5d712a9102.pngimage.thumb.png.3511680795ce02d0336e41f5507530d8.png

Situation 2

Spoiler

This is definitely a BIG factor for sure. This came up just before end of April's Las Palmas match.

I will refer more on this situation later on once I setup the bigger picture.

image.png.2bd250ada053e94f91a39e6efd7b0883.png

Situation 3

Spoiler

Contracts, bloody contracts.

Correia, Guillamon (twice this year, 4th time this season), Diego Lopez, Almeida, Mamardashvilli all asked for a new one.

Apart from Correia, I want to keep the others. Guillamon, Diego Lopez, Almeida accepted to drop it when I talked to them. Whilst I couldn't risk Mamardashvilli leaving, so had to offer him one.

The problem was the timing. Correia asked for one (his 2nd time this season) at the start of May, and 8 players became unhappy in his support. Luckily, Mosquera, Yarek, Vasquez (the 3 Young players who played a lot) dropped their unhappiness after talking to them. The other 5 are young Mestalla players I kept in the senior squad for mentoring and better quality training.

Thought it was sorted, then few days later, 4 of the team leaders/senior players (Gaya, Guillamon, Duro, Domenech) also became unhappy in support of Correia. After holding team meeting, only Domenech was still unhappy.

All of these messed up our morale at the most important part of the season, and in Mamardashvilli's case - he asked for a contract on the day same day as the Sociedad match! That's right the final match of the season!

Results up to the final day...

Final Day of Season 1...

Spoiler

Heartbreaking :(

Just not meant to be. Despite this, I still feel proud for an unbelievable first season. No disappointment honestly.

It is the first time in all my FM experience that most of my team were motivated even before my pre-match team-talk. Had fun in the way we play and how we create our chances. Fran Perez zooming in for the through ball in between the CB and LB were my favourite highlights as to how aesthetically pleasing they were.

3 losses whole season, 2 in La Liga, 1 in CDR.

17 goals conceded in La Liga - by far the best defence :D

All of these made me excited for coming season :brock:

I also have to put my hand up and admit I made the wrong choices in this match.

Didn't start Fran Perez because of his poor recent form.

I also did all my substitutions after I saw Greenwood's goal against Real, I thought we got the advantage now with Real losing.

The substitutions were too early and none of the 5 were able to affect the match, that I should have kept the starting players. Was unable to put 2 strikers up-top like I did in the CDR Final.

Lesson learnt.

Situation 4

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.28953877493c3ccfcd701e173b10d7b8.png

Thoughts

I strongly believed, the 4 different situations affected our end of season performances.

Board changes, our best player Fran Perez slacking in training because of mentoring group went bad and his professionalism decreasing, all the contract requests and the timing of it, and injuries forcing most of our creative players to miss out on the final run-in.

Mosquera, Diakhaby, Yarek (Ozkacar lost his form), Guillamon all became jaded and in need of rest towards the end. Just not enough cover because of lack of option and injuries.

I'm not going to use the injuries as an excuse (wasn't even a crisis), but considering we only scored 2 goals in the final 6 matches after winning the CDR Final, I had pin-pointed Fran Perez as the key to our failings.

I should have taken extra steps since Mari also had similar result from his Mentoring Group.

Fran Perez before Winter Break: 9 goals, 5 assists.

After New Year: 3 goals, 5 assists, and lots of poor performances.

His last goal was vs Mallorca on April 7th, whilst his last assist was against Real Madrid on March 9th.

So in the final 8 matches, he didn't contributed any goal nor assist despite being our best player.

Its showing with Valencia only scoring 2 goals in the final 6 matches.

I hope I can reverse his mentoring predicament and bring his professionalism back up. He will be key for how we will do in our 2nd season.

Players with 7+ average rating

8 first choice first team players finished with above 7 AVR, so pretty pleased with that. Fran Perez and Duro did finished on a downward trend at the end of the season, so something I need to sort out next season.

Gonzalbez the only squad player to perform exceedingly well to what is expected of them, so that means he most likely will stay beyond this season.

image.thumb.png.fe8cc47c2d2f3f9bdb777b8d0ae78fc9.png

Players with 6.90 - 6.99 average rating

Guerra, Yarek, Vasquez, Almeida are expected to have that extra room to perform even better next season. Iranzo will play more next season as the backup for a new RB.

image.thumb.png.7a7a90bb9c93f27756b0494df69d1512.png

Players with 6.89 average rating and below

Guillamon (34(8) apps) and Diego Lopez (23(18) apps) are the main first team players that are in this underperforming group, so I'm expecting better from them next season.

Appearances Review

Spoiler

There were 46 total matches for Valencia in Season 1.

Mosquera leading the way with 43 matches at 18/19 years of ahe, only missing out on the first 2 CDR Rounds and a match vs Mallorca in November (I forgot why)

Guillamon and Diego Lopez underperformed of my regulars, so next season I'm looking for improvement from them in their positions.

Almeida is my favourite first substitution because of how creative he is. Towards the end he started more in place of out of form Pepelu.

Squad Depth

Spoiler

First glance, priority position would be a new first choice RB. Then another DM and another MC if possible.

I'm happy with most of depth for now as I'm not planning a huge turnovers of players. Might revisit this plan every 3 seasons to give the players all the chance they need to develop and perform.

Correia wanted too high of a new contract (£40k+ p/w) despite his subpar contribution to our general play. Whilst physically he is amazing, technically he is not what I'm looking for. 1 assist showcasing his limitation here. A few of the goals we conceded came from his pass being intercepted and we got countered. His 2 goals were from CK/FK he went forward despite his instruction was to stay back :D

Diakhaby wanted to move to a bigger club, his head had been turn since early season because of Saudi interest. I would not be opposed to him staying since he can cover DM as well as a Mentor (Resolute personality) But since a promise was made, he will be leaving for sure.

Canos is in a position where I have the most options. Whilst he did okay most of his matches, his £34k p/w wages is just too high for his playing time. Would be willing to keep him if he could contribute to a good Mentoring Group, but so far he is not that.

Yarek finished the season strong ahead of Ozkacar, who strangely always anxious in all the games towards the end. He doesn't have 'Doesn't Enjoy Big Matches' in his report either. So I'm planning next season with Yarek as first choice for the LCB position.

Transfer Plans for Season 2

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.82be0a7f98755ae33cbd8314ffdc400b.png

This is the preliminary budget set by the board when Valencia confirmed their place in Uefa Europa League, lets see if we would get more since we will be in UCL instead.

A new Board might also increase a bit of our budget but if its internal promotion I doubt it since we still have lots of debts to clear.

Main priority is to keep our budget within our La Liga registration limit.

Correia £10,250 p/w, Diakhaby £13,250 p/w, Canos £34k p/w would hopefully help in outgoing reduction in wages.

I'm hoping to get £50+m incoming from selling the players above.

Domenech is on £25k p/w and in the last month of his contract. I would like to keep him if he would agree a wage lower than De Gea (£14k p/w) since Domenech is 3rd choice. His Perfectionist personality is helpful in Mentoring group, whilst this is his 11th season for Valencia. I would like to be loyal to the players when I can :D At the moment he is unhappy because of Correia's contract situation and has 'Wants new Challenge', I hope I can persuade him to stay.

Transfer Targets

Position of Need - 1) First Choice Attacking RB 2) A DM 3) A MC

1) RB targets - would like an attacking RB to complement Gaya on the opposite side. Preferably someone with a physical profile above 180+ cm for defensive solidity.

  • Ferdi Kadioglu (Turkish, Fenerbache, 24, 174cm) - main problem would be the wages I think since current Scouting Reports are suggesting £92k-115k p/w. Estimated fee: £15.25m - £22.5m
  • Juanlu (Spanish, Sevilla, 20, 186cm) - Younger and still need to develop further, but fits the profile of what I'm looking for. Wages around £36k+ p/w and has release clause £29.5m, though the Scout Report says a £19m deal might be possible. Atletico is showing interest as well so would face competition which might drive his wages up.

2) DM targets - I'm happy with Guillamon as first choice for now, so ideally I would sign someone to back him up and push for a starting spot in the next few years. Would like a similar profile to Guillamon since Valencia's defensive record been magnificent and the Half Back position is key to achieve that I think.

  • Renato Veiga (Portuguese, Basel, 20, 190cm) - perfect defensively solid profile with overall balanced attributes to add a bit extra than Guillamon. Can play multiple positions and is left footed, extra bonus. Estimated Fee: £9.25m-11.25m and wages around £33k+ p/w
  • Stefan Bajcetic (Spanish, Liverpool, 19, 186cm) - Multi-positions but not as flexible as his one-footedness is a highlighted weakness in his game. Very expensive at estimated £30m-42m and £32k+ p/w wages. I'm considering him incase I only have enough budget for a RB, as Liverpool seems to be open to loaning him out.
  • Samu (Portuguese, Mallorca, 23, 183cm) - I feel this is a signing if I want to replace Guillamon as first choice, not sure I want to do it just yet. Left footed and Perfectionist for estimated £18.7m - 27.5m and £43k+ p/w wages.
  • Angelo Stiller (Germany, Stuttgart, 23, 183cm) is of similar profile like Samu but way higher wage demand £57k+ p/w
  • Cheaper and Younger targets to develop - Marc Bernal (Spanish, Barca, 17, 188cm), Javier Fernandez (Spanish, Bayern, 17, 186cm). Both of these will be a project, so not sure if its the direction I want to go with. What budget available might dictate this as the only option though.

3) MC targets - Since Almeida is more than able to rotate with Guerra, I need someone to challenge Pepelu for the B2B midfield role. The DM targets above can fill in MC as well, so we might only be able to sign one for both positions.

  • Gerard Yepes (Spanish, Fulham, 21, 170cm) - Only become aware of him towards end of the season after Fulham snapped him up for a cool £4.9m from Sampdoria in January. Now he is valued 5 times that, but Fulham just got relegated, so finance permitting, would like to test his market in the summer. Hardworking Midfielder named Gerard? Memory lane on Valencia's Gerard Lopez of old :D
  • Pablo Barios (Spanish, Atletico, 20, 181cm) - This is more of a luxury wishful thinking, since he is a Wonderkid and valued more than £40m - 60m. I'm keeping an eye on this one for long term possibility as I feel he can replace Pepelu as first choice :D
  • Diego Gomez (Paraguayan, Inter Miami, 21, 183cm) - The most realistic target since he is valued around £500k - £6.6m and only around £18k+ p/w wages. Potential wise this might be a midterm signing just for squad depth instead of challenging for first XI, unless my Scout not doing their job fully :herman:

Special mention one target for the future - Once Valencia can spend more than £50m+ on one player, I would like to get Aimar (Spanish, Osasuna, 22, 177cm). Would like to partner him with Guerra if possible.

Perfect summer transfer for season 2? Kadioglu, Veiga, Gerard Yepes with Juanlu, Bernal/Javier Fernandez, Diego Gomez as 2nd option.

Mosquera was called up for the March Friendlies vs Argentina and New Zealand but they never bring him off the bench :( Would been have been perfect to debut against Argentina.

Hugo Duro was called up for Spain preliminary Euros 2024 squad, but he missed out to Toni Martinez it seems for the final striker spot.

Boardroom Takeover News Update 9

Spoiler

No tycoon investment, but I'm actually fine with it since it would make this more challenging and hopefully allowed me to get invested more.

Was disappointed to see Voro left the Board, since he's the only real clickable profile and a Valencia Icon.

How is it looking financially with the new Board?

Spoiler

Whilst there's no visible investment into the club from the announcement, I did noticed they restructured the loan repayments and added £12m into the Overall Balance.. Which hopefully should help financially in the future. My main priority target would like to be to see the La Liga registration wage limit to be increased for the likely increase in contracts requests and hopefully better quality players.

Next Update 10: Summer Transfer Window 2024

Sneak Peek Drama..

Spoiler

This was the reason why I stopped playing since my last update.

Hugo Duro had already provisionally agreed a new contract in November. Little did I know pushing it to the end of the season is causing me problem, since I didn't realised the end of season in Spain is 9th of July, instead of the typical date in June before re-opening of the Summer Transfer Window.

It was also unbeknownst to me that despite despite provisionally agreeing to a new contract, they would still discuss transfer with other teams. I thought it would be similar to when a player just signed a new contract and refused to enter negotiation. So the extra 9 days for La Liga to count as end of season made this very weird experience for me, on top of the fact Duro said he is keen on the move (whilst Jose Gaya mentioned he would be reluctant to leave after a rumour to Saudi was mentioned):(
