charlie177
well i think a manager has to stay at a club for a long time, look at Wenger and Fergie and the players they've brought through, we need to keep a manager for a longer time period. But back to the game, Deco should have really scored 2 but he had to look good and try and chip the keeper, quite annoyed that he didnt just tap it in. Skoolblowsme
Out of all managers under Roman so Ranieri, Jose, Grant and Scolari who do you reckon out of those would be best for youngsters?I think Ranieri Yea but look what Ranieri is doing with Giovinco, a really good young player who rarely plays. Mourinho and Grant would probably quit before they played a youth player, except IIRC Grant did play Sinclair a couple games because of all the injuries. I thought Scolari would be the one to promote youth, but he only ever puts them in when were down against th Big Four?? I don't get it
mag man
I think a young manager who would be there for the long haul is probably what Chelsea needed rather then Scolari even though I really like him. Doesnt look like Zola is doing to well at West Ham though probably not his fault.
charlie177
Well Scolari is bringing in some 15 year old from Benfica, but in 5 years Scolari will probably be gone and the new manager probably wouldnt play him
mag man
Hasnt Scolari said his staying for 2 years and then retiring?
charlie177
nah he said he wants to coach for 4 or 5 more yaers then retire
Skoolblowsme
I dunno, but the other 3 promote youth, and even play them in their starting line-ups against weaker teams. How are we ever donna develop them if they never play? Like Rafael from Man U
charlie177
exactly, Fergie and Wenger are in the perfect position, they've been at their clubs for so long to know who their promoting and how ready they are, Danny Welbeck and Frazier Campbell have both grown under Fergie and hes seen that so they get their chances.
mag man
I think with Arsenal and Man U there is less pressure on there managers. Arsenal can play youth and finish in the top 4 and Wengers job would be safe, Fergersons job would also be safe if he finished 2nd and played youngsters. Chelsea showed last season finishing 2nd place and runners-up in champs league wasnt good enough for Grant even when he had started to win fans over, so there is pressure on the manager to do well in every game and to play best 11 to win. That said at 3/4 up there is no pressure on the kids especially if there already on the bench.
charlie177
yep another good point, like i said we need a manager for a long period, to be honest its the people at the top that cause the problems, Kenyon and his merry men. From my knowledge Wenger and Fergie dont have interferences from the board and can just do their job.
Skoolblowsme
I think Grant was always gonna be sacked from the beginning, I think the only thing that MIGHT have saved his job was winning the Champs Lge, so since he didn't do that the Chelsea management was happy to give him the boot. macca69
Grant definitely just a stop gap. No way was he a long term manager choice.
Skoolblowsme
Grant definitely just a stop gap. No way was he a long term manager choice. He didn't have the right "flair" I guess could be the word
macca69
I know its from goal.com but an interesting article none the less: http://www.goal.com/en/news/1711/chelsea/2008/12/06/999752/chelsea-censor-scolari-criticism Also some rumours from the BBC sports column suggesting unrest in the camp. mag man
How much does everyone believe the Michael Owen rumours, its not the 1st time they've come around, seems to happen every weekend he scores?
macca69
Well i think hed be a great shout obviously. Would really like to see him here. Although hes injury proven, hes been a proven goal scorer.
mag man
I agree I think he would give us a different dimension in attack. Plus players at Newcastle get injured all time so might be different down south but we also get players injured all time  Probably wouldnt be to expensive and I doubt any other club who might be interested would have more appeal to him. deez0r
Wouldnt be overly fussed on Owen coming unless we change to a 4-4-2 which I cant see us doing currently. Drogba is back now and if he shows any sign of form would be more than happy for Di Santo to be behind the first choice 2. Left winger much more needed than another striker. macca69
Scolari looks set to start with Anelka and Drogba up front. We need to win tonight. If we don't bye bye Scolari.

deez0r
What Juni said, at least we are at home, tends to be more interested when we are at home.
mag man
Maybe with the transfer window coming up he will try harder I think Drogba was a much better striker when he had Shev alongside him so hopefully if he is paired with Anelka we see a similar effect. Subs: Cudicini, Ivanovic, Drogba, Bridge, Ferreira, Belletti, Stoch. should win this comfortably, no excuses imo.
