Waddling up North…

March 18th 2005 continued

“Sounds like a good deal to me boss. I can be up there next week.†Waddle smiles pleasantly.

For the past hour and half, Williamson, Flip and Waddle have been making small talk about football, their backgrounds and their hopes for the club. Waddle, a truly great left winger in his day, has had a shot at management but as he admits, he feels coaching below a boss will be where his future lies.

“I just want to get involved a the real level you know. Work our way up with players.†Waddle says all the right things and rings the right tune before signing on the line.

“Well if you have any names of anyone you think we can bring in, let us know. Obviously we are starting from scratch so we need some prompting here and there.â€

“Aye well anyone I rate or have rated is generally at a club but I can put the word about†Waddle explains. “There is one kid up North who has just left Falkirk as a Coach though. Bob Beveridge his name. Good lad. Do we have a goalkeeping coach?â€

“As it goes, no. Speak to him and ask him if he fancies meeting up next week with us. He can pop along when you are up and you can introduce us allâ€. Here is a file with our players registered to date though Chris.

Included in the file are the latest names, despite only met up on the train that day. With time to spare, Flip looked up the duo;

ArjenRobben

Born in Ashford, Kent, Stuart Joseph Wanrer, known as ArjenRobben is a right sided midfielder with good discipline and composure on the ball. With several spells in the conference and regional divisions, Stuart has good experience in the lower realms of football which will help team-mates.

Despite being a Gooner, Williamson is keen to see how the youngsters can settle in after receiving the thumbs up from an old coaching mate at Chesterfield. Great anticipation, ArjenRobben can read a game very well and is as comfortable playing in the centre of the park.

At just 5ft8, he uses his natural passing ability to shift the ball about quickly and will work box-to-box for his team with tireless effort. Stuart will be one of the younger members of the squad, turning 20 as the season 2005/2006 gets underway.

Simonh1979

From High Wycombe in Bucks, Simon Henbest is a winger with pace who will bring some welcome width to a narrow squad at present. Always destined to earn a crust from the game, Simon feels his dribbling and crossing ability are his best attributes and although well built, he feels he is quick over short distances.

Loyal and composed, Simon has been touted as something of a show boater at times. One previous coach said “the simple thing always seemed the hardest for Si†but undoubtedly Williamson will look to hone this to try and bring the best out of the right sided player.

Despite his talent, previous clubs have seen his stamina as something of a concern and he will have to fight hard if he is to make himself a first teamer early on.

PRESS CONFERENCE:

March 24th 2005

Lochaber Training Centre

“Hello ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to Fort William. I must first say how great it is to have you all present for such a special occasion. We have a few people to introduce to you all and we felt the people of Fort William deserved to know a little more about the people involved in their town.â€

Following Flipsix3’s short introduction to the press present, in walks Luke Williamson (Okkas) and Peacemaker7. Both take a seat at the desk which is already enjoying the presence of many microphones and Flipsix3 and Raptor.

A few snaps are taken as the guys take a seat and in the new, plush, press room, finished just that morning, the guys sit patiently waiting for the camera’s and journalists to calm.

Raptor: “hello friends, pleased to meet you all. As many of you should be aware, we have just opened this structure here in Lochaber as both a press office and training centre. We feel this location meets all the clubs needs and has everything we need to run a successful club. On top of this, we have the main HQ in Fort William Town centre where we are based whilst the new stadium, all being well, should be open in time for the new football season.

Without further delay, I would like to thank you all for your time and introduce you to Okkas, the clubs Player-Manager, Peacemaker7 his assistant and player and Flipsix3, the financial backer and player for the club.

All three gentlemen are joint partners in this venture and are all working very hard to make your town, a successful footballing town…over to you Flipâ€

Flipsix3 “Yes thankyou. As Raptor has just explained, we are all involved here in Fort William and we will all guarantee you our every effort to ensure you all feel comfortable and happy with this venture in your town.

Should anyone have any questions, we are more than happy to discuss the club, both on and off the pitch details.â€

Okkas “Morning guys, now, to date, we have a small playing staff of around 12 or 13. As you are all aware, we have released names as and when we have signed players and we can today confirm the arrival of both coaches and players to the club.

I am pleased to announce we have agreed short term deals with both Simonh1979 and ArjenRobben. Both players are promising youngsters and I have spoken with old friends from clubs that both players have been at and everything I hear is positive. I have taken a look at them in training this week and had no hesitation in brining them into the club for the forthcoming play-off game and next season,

We are also delighted that Chris Waddle, former England, Spurs and Sheffield Wednesday player has agreed to join our coaching staff on a one year deal. Chris is keen to get stuck into his new role and has already been in taking sessions and coming up with some new methods and ideas for us to try out.

Other than that, we have also signed Bob Beveridge as a player coach. Bob is a veteran keeper but will be a useful addition to the squad and will enhance our back room staff also. Both guys will be around this afternoon to answer any question you all may have…â€

POST CONFERENCE…

As the day draws to a close, the guys can be relieved that another hectic day is drawing in. Relaxing with a few bottled beers in the front room of their apartment, at last they have rid of all the guys who have been lodging in the various rooms of late.

The front room is part of an open plan downstairs which works well for office purposes. Using a pine theme all around the room, the focal point is a central fire place which contains a real log fire. The room is big enough for a spacious computer area, several sofa’s and large plasma screen tv for all their footballing needs.

A breakfast bar is also within the same open plan room with a semi-big kitchen adequate due to lack of women. The three guys haven’t said much but it appears Okkas, Flip and Peacemaker will share the place for the time being and as they settle down to watch a recorded programme, idea’s again starting bouncing off one another.

“We need some gimmick.†Flip says as he grabs another case of beer.

“Yeah but its not that easy†explains Peacemaker as he flicks channels.

Suddenly the idea hits them in the face however as Sky Sports advertises;

“The most exciting talent search of all time.â€

Sky One are set to film a reality tv show with a twist. Football Icon!!! Now it may be early days but suddenly Flip gets thinking.

“We could try get a TV channel down to document our search for players. Imagine the interest it would bring?â€

Peacemaker and Okkas choose to half ignore what he says until suddenly the pair look at each other.

“That’s not a bad idea at all….hmmmm†Okkas thinks.

CHANNEL 4 SIGN FOOTBALL DOCU-SOAP

The Sun - April 1st 2005

The Sun can reveal Channel 4 are set to sign a deal to Document the life and times of England’s newest football club. Despite being based in Fort William in Scotland, the newly formed club, who’ll replace Fort William AFC have been at the centre of much speculation of late after the club were bought cheaply for their application to join the EFA.

With mixed views surrounding the clubs purchase, Channel 4 will join the story just months before the major Play-Off game which could win the club a place in the EFA Conference.

New boss Luke Williamson said:

“This is great news for the club. It will be great for real fans to see how a club works and hopefully it’ll be a success story.â€

Sources close to the club have confirmed that the management team hope this will propel the club and the town into the media spotlight in a similar way that Weymouth FC received attention under their Claridge-Management days.

It is thought the club will have the logo of Channel 4 across their shirts also for the coming season as part of the deal although rumours surrounding a channel 4 named stadium have been rejected.

It is predicted that the likes of Williamson (Okkas), Peacemaker7 and Flipsix3 will welcome to funding from channel four although many have predicted that tempers will flare up once issues arise over privacy within the club.

Meanwhile, Hinckley Manager Dean Thomas has already written off hopes that Williamson can lead his side to Conference success stating:

“It will be a long road for them but I am sure they will give it there all. I just will not hold my breath for seeing them in our division next season.â€

NO APRIL FOOLS IN FORT WILLIAM

Despite many thinking the Channel 4 circus was a hoax, camera’s arrived in the Scottish town on April 2nd to meet the squad members and staff in charge. Many locals felt that their beautiful scenic town will become something of a media circus with club progress stepping up.

Friendlies with Reserve sides from Scotland have been confirmed for the forthcoming month ahead of the play-off game in England whilst the search for players has been boosted by the hype surrounding the TV crew’s arrival.

On April the 3rd, some 100 young players began arriving in Fort William with Williamson keen to give “everyone a bash at impressingâ€. However, with training facilities still limited, local park pitches were dragged in to the plan to enable Williamson and his back-room staff to see everyone.

Bob Beveridge and Chris Waddle both arrived also on the 3rd to bed into their new home.

BobBev

Born in Falkirk, Scotland, Bob Beveridge will be the respected veteran of the club after years in the game at Highland League levels. A top class goalkeeper in his day, BobBev will hope to coach the younger squad keepers to success whilst making up the numbers within the squad.

BobBev has top notch communication skills, handling and distribution although and 5ft11, is not the tallest shot stopper in the game. Despite this, he is a perfect role model with great composure and team work ethics. He also brings great loyalty to his new club and will be a valuable asset to the club.

IMPRESSED FROM THE OFF

On day one of the newly formed ‘coach the whole bleeding town’ campaign, Flipsix3 feels he has uncovered some rough-around-the-edge diamonds in his group down at the local playing fields.

In particular, youngster Rob Noakes (Dire Wrangle) had travelled 140 miles for a run out in the highlands with his attacking skills coming to light from the off. A strong right foot, Rob looks like a decent midfield man with sharp finishing skills and a great striker of the ball.

Another midfielder who catches the eye of Flip is a young lad called Brian Of Nazarath (Roderick L Davies) who is a neat left footed player with bucket loads of determination and a very aggressive streak.

Once again, defensive midfielders are too common though so these two wide men should be useful additions if they settle in well. Meanwhile, Channel 4 advertises in the press that they are opening a talent search for the best unsigned teenager. Okkas pledges his full support to the scheme and explains he will give youngsters every opportunity at signing up for the club.

Peacemaker7 meanwhile brings in a former team-mate Simon Furnivall (Terk) who was a goalkeeper at the pairs club at the age of 16. Terk, now 20, was looking for a new club and despite not fulfilling his early career promise, Peacemaker7 see’s no reason why he cannot progress under Williamson’s guidance.

Terk

Born in Leeds in 1983, Terk has much reason to look forward to his career in the game. A steady keeper, he possesses great loyalty and has a wise head on young shoulders. He said, upon joining the club “the sky is the limit†and he fully believes in the venture after coming up to Scotland to check the set-up out.

At 6ft3, Terk certainly has good height for a keeper and has excellent handling and positioning. But with little in terms of agility, he has work to do to try become the clubs number one.

Terk switched off somewhat from football at a young age to try and pursue a career in football and as coincidence would have it, Terk was also a friend of Flip’s as a youngster when first trying to make it pro at football.

Dire Wrangle

From Southend-on-sea, Rob Noakes is a nippy, 6ft right winger with an eye for goal and a body to graft. With West Ham being his favourite club, he is a player who tries to play the game in a considerable fashion and has a neat touch and ability to move the ball about.

Despite being quite light weight, Dire will give his all in the game and works well with Brian Of Nazarath after playing with the future team mate as a youngster. With a neat right foot, Dire likes to roam from flank to flank and can be counted upon to have a cool head when needed.

Brian Of Nazarath

Roderick L Davies, from Worcester supports Villa and has a rare ability. He is a young Englishman with a sweet left peg and he has already set his sights on making a left wing berth his own for his new club when the action starts. Although very left sided, Brian Of Nazarath can play both flanks if needed and like to cut inside for efforts on goal.

Determined in a tackle also, Nazarath likeness himself to a more attacking version of Gareth Barry and will strives towards success as an unsung hero with his new club.

Supa Playa

Dan Donovan completes the short list of new arrivals after several good displays infront of Williamson in training. At the age of 20, Supa Playa is another holding midfielder although he has already shown the ability to run at players and join in attacks from deep.

A tight marking, no-nonsense style of player, Supa Playa is the Dennis Wise of the non-league, propelling him into the managements good books already. Tackles with bite, Dan is an aggressive customer who has skipper potential and holds tackling as his main attribute in his 5ft10, slim 10st stature.

We are all off to Sunny Luxembourg icon_confused.gif

April 15th 2005

It’s not the number one destination for most footballers to tour or holiday, but with a long hard road ahead of the new Fort William side, Okkas, with the finance from Flipsix3, decides to take his boys on a tour to try and build morale, team-work and to enable all players to get to know one another.

With, to-date a squad built from young British lads, Okkas feels that an import or two could prove useful to give the side that little bit extra. Cheekily, Gianfranco Zola is contacted via Raptor about the possible coaching/playing role that he once desired at Chelsea.

But with little response from the diminutive Italian or any one else contacted for that matter, Peacemaker7 suggest advertising posts within the club rather than endlessly searching for someone.

WANTED the adverts screams out.

Several Coaching, physio and scouting roles for immediate start are up for grabs in the Highland town of Fort William.

And with the flights booked, the squad make their way to Glasgow Airport for a 6am flight out to Luxembourg on the morning of the 15th. All smartly dressed in club tracksuits, for the first time the side appear and feel professional. All in Forum Blue colours, with royal blue stripes around the shoulder area, all the tracksuits lack are a club emblem at present. With Channel 4 emblazoned on the back however, the tracksuit certainly looks the part and as the boys arrive on coach at the airport. Camera’s are awaiting them and the TV crew, more annoyingly, are located on both the coach, airport entrance and awaiting the team on the plane.

All in all though, it is a nice day for the squad who can finally concentrate on the football as a pre-season tour against small regional sides from Luxembourg is set to get underway.

Tour Game One

April 17th 2005

Whilst the club, still under the name Fort William Reserves train hard for two days out in Dudelange, their opponents for an evening kick off in the city continue with their day jobs waiting for the media circus to leave their beautiful country.

With very little in terms of support or warm welcomes at the stadium, only 100 or so people watch the lads opening game with near to half of them being either subs or officials of either side.

An enthralling match see’s defensive errors left right and centre however and a 4-4 final score does no one any favours other than the forwards who get amongst the goals. Matt_no_7 nets twice for Fort William Res’ whilst Daz The Imp hits a brace also. But both forwards could have scored a dozen each as chances are spurned and Okkas walks away from the run down, concrete arena with very little to be impressed with.

Peacemaker7 tells the media:

“It was hard to bring anything from this game as it is the first time they have took to the field together. But give them their credit the boys kept going and we’ll probably learn more from it with time.â€

Channel 4 confirm they will begin showing the drama of the football club in the build up for the 05/06 season but top bosses are praying that the club reach the conference north in order to make the story more interesting.

In other news, OMDave (David Manson) performs well for the Dudelange representative side to such an extent that Okkas asks if he’d be interested in joining the squad for the remainder of the tour.

OMDave

OMDave welcomes the offer whilst demanding he is known as French or Irish but not Luxembourish. A right back first and foremost, Manson is strong on the ball and very composed with the ball at his feet. Channel 4 footage confirms that he didn’t give away possession once during the game and it is noted that he is an excellent passer of the ball for a defender.

Previously with Spora Luxembourg, Manson is a Marseilles fan and likens himself to Willy Sagnol as a player. But at the age of 30, Manson knows that this is his last chance to go pro and links up

ROOMIES

April 18th 2005

With the club settled down in the base for the next few weeks, Okkas and Peacemaker7 are left with arranging guys into rooms which will be most beneficial to the team bonding.

Peacemaker7 and Okkas room with Raptor and Flipsix3 in the main room which will be used at their temporary office. Elsewhere, Hell Hath No Fury, SDaveS and Simonh1979 are in a room together. King Mike and Dire Wrangle are joined by new man OMDave and Matt_no_7.

Daz The Imp, ArjenRobben and WLKRAS are next down the corridor. Terk, Binny and Bob Bev are placed together as a goalkeeping room is formed. Whilst MaccaSAFC, Sam_015, Brian Of Nazarath and Supa Playa make up a comfortable foursome.

Chris Waddle joins BobBev in the goalkeepers room until Okkas can have time to bring in some more friends for the former England legend whilst flights are booked for an old coaching friend, Displaced_Seagull to come join the fun in Lux.

England verse Australia

April 21st 2005

Whilst out in Luxembourg, an amateur side from Australia lay down the gauntlet for Fort William to take on the southern hemisphere side as part of the tour. Following a 0-0 with locals Bron FC and a 2-1 defeat against Sporta Luxembourg (Brian Of Nazarath with the only goal late in the game), Williamson feels that the side need more time to work together and bed in so an opportunity with a game against a bunch who feel more comfortable with an egg shaped ball seems ideal.

As things proceed however, it is a Aussie XI player who shines throughout the first half in the form of Gavin Mathieson (Spav). The left sided midfielder seems to have tireless energy and brings out the best in OMDave making his first start for the Fort William side.

2 goals to the good at the break however, Okkas introduces himself to the field along with Peacemaker7 and Dire Wrangle and a strong second half display is only ruined by the injury blow to Terk who saves bravely in the hour mark only to receive concussion.

Despite this, Okkas nets once before Brian Of Nazarath and Dire Wrangle striker in the closing moments of the game to give Fort William a impressive 3-2 win.

After the game, Okkas spoke of: “team spirit†and “work ethics†starting to shine through. He went on to say.

“When things went bad, we kept chipping away. I thought we would play the game with ten men to see how we could react and I am pleased to say we looked strong as the game wore on.â€

Meanwhile, Brian Of Nazarath stated he was:

“delighted with the tour so far and pleased to have been given a chance with this side.â€

After the game, Spav joins OMDave on the trialist list and heads up to the team hotel before being joined by Displaced and Bazza, who came highly recommended, albeit from an agent.

Bazza

Strong and fast on the ball, Bazza is an out-and-out striker who knows where the goal is. Born in Germany in 1974, Bazza feels he can bring some experience to a young squad and after years playing semi-pro in the UK, Bazza see’s this as his swan song career move.

Keen to get playing, Bazza is an aggressive customer with passion and grit and will see himself as a target man sort of forward if he proves to sign a full time deal at the club.

Spav

From Benalla, Australia, Spav is most comfortable playing at left back or left midfield. Despite this, he has the character and ability to shift himself elsewhere in a formation and is at his best in sides that like to play football.

Excellent technique, Spav is a determined player at 6ft2 and can find himself a reliable defender with his top rate positioning. Also good as a marker, Spav has let experience teach him equally well how to lose a man, enabling him to move into midfield as his career wore on.

Spav describes himself as the type who would be a one club man had he made it pro.

Letter from America…

As the tour progresses with noted improvement, Okkas receives an email from the states;

Dear Sir, I have been keeping watch on your amazing story for BBC America and all and I would like to speak with you about possibly joining your club for the forthcoming campaign. I am happy to make it as a player anywhere on your roster. I do not wish to be a star man and so forth so if there is space for a versatile Yank in your ranks, give me a message. I am in the UK in a few weeks and would love to meet up.

I have been part of successful sides in College Leagues and all but with my playing days nearing an end, I would wish to take up a new challenge overseas.

I can play in the central role of midfield although I am more of an offensive player than defensive. I don’t wish you to liken me to him, but I am in the mould of Peter Crouch, just a little more stylish. Still at least he’ll never play for my beloved Liverpool will he.

Thanks for your time in reading this and I hope to hear from you soon. Please find attached a file containing footage of myself.

Okkas is that impressed upon watching the files that evening that he wakes both Flip and Peacemaker and in the process Raptor.

“he looks nifty†Flip says, “Now go sleep you pr1ck.†And with that, Okkas continues his obsessive late night work with training routines and ideas to perfect.

Back Home

As the ‘stars’ of the Fort William Reserves return to Scotland, it is a tight schedule that is needed in order to plan for the forthcoming Play-Off game.

USKOPITE

Uskopite, otherwise known as that yank who wrote an e-mail arrives during a very cold and dull weekend in the highlands with training at an intense stage just prior to the May Bank Holiday weekend. Uskopit (Terrence Patrick Murphy), from Indian Head in the US is a neat little player with plenty of ability on the ball. The staff are keen from the off and his finishing matches his neat foot work leaving the only stumbling block being his work permit.

After Raptor makes several calls however, it is sorted that there will not be any problems and uskopite has plans arranged for his remaining stuff to be shipped over.

Other than that, everything is steady down at Fort Williams new training centre at Lochaber. Most surprisingly, Raptor’s friend from Holland, Super Walli, spends a few days with the squad down at the training ground and with all respect, does not look out of place in the technical department.

However, at a squad meeting that evening, everything is about to get somewhat tougher. On May the 2nd, the squad are told to report in early the following morning and get a good nights rest, ready for a tough few days.

HARD WORK STARTS NOW!!!

May 3rd 2005

“Welcome everyone†Williamson says warmly as gradually people place ar$es on seats. The guys are congregating in conference sized room with chairs set out as though the players are parents at their youngsters Christmas play.

“Come on, sit down Bazza†Williamson calls as the last couple of faces wander in with toast and cups of tea in their hands. The new training centre, now finished and looking shiny and clean has two conference rooms, small offices for both Williamson and Director Of Football Raptor whilst there are state of the art gym facilities, a small indoor, heated pool and a large changing room complete with Physio tables and Media Resources to show people screened images.

The walls follow a forum blue colour scheme throughout with Football Memorabilia taking up wall space in corridors and offices. All in all, it looks like the type of place you’d love to work. Add to that the top of the range games room, cinema screen and reception area for visitors to register and perhaps one could say these facilities are wasted on this bunch of ‘nearly-men’.

“Okay guys, bit of hush please and we’ll get on with things.†All eyes are now focused to the front where Williamson is stood besides a few unfamiliar faces. Completing the make-up of the setting, there are some 20+ squad members, including lads who perhaps are close to securing deals but are yet to be told.

“From now on in, it is time to focus. We have just 2 weeks left to prepare for our game and we will find out tomorrow who it is against. But you all know the score. A win can give us a chance at playing in the Conference North.â€

The faces are beginning to look excited. This is what youngsters wanted to turn pro for. The reality of being in the game at this level could become true.

“We all need to know now how bad we want it. We have some top coaches here, we have a great behind-the-scenes group of guys trying to help us to succeed but most importantly, it is down to myself and you guys.â€

The comments are received with gentle nodding of the heads from various faces. All the squad are dressed smartly in the new club tracksuits complete with Channel 4 emblazonment.

“We have dieticians, we have docs we have people here for you guys 24/7. If you do not want it enough, then the doors are behind you and there will be no hard feelings. You can keep your tracksuits and you can hold on to your dreams of making it pro. However, if you are willing to show you have the character to turn dream into reality, settle down, listen to the guys that I am about to introduce to you and work yourselves to the best of your ability.

There are no pre-conceptions made about anyone. I have seen you all to varied extents but as of now, we all start with a clean slate.â€

Williamson smiles warmly and returns to his laptop to flick up some details that players will need for reference.

“There are contact details of myself, Raptor, Peacemaker7 and Flip. If you wanna get in touch, don’t hesitate. Get your phones out and save all those numbers out because you’ll need them all within time. Peacemaker7 may well end up managing to reserves on occasions, Raptor is the one you’ll dissucss your contract details with etc and Flip is the chap you may want to speak to about the club overall.â€

As Williamson finishes, the door behind him opens and a cute looking blonde walks in. Top notch gorgeous in fact. She places a tray of tea’s on the table for Williamson and his colleagues before ushering in a few new faces. Most notably, Luther Blisset.

“Now chaps, as we say, we have plenty of guys here to help and possibly one of the most experienced is a new coach for us, Luther Bliessett.†Luther stands forward but admittedly, several of the younger faces know little if anything about him. In fact, one unnamed voice murmurs, “hey that’s the name of the stand on Soccer AMâ€

Following Luther, the squad are introduced to Erik Thorsvedt, a former Spurs goalkeeper in the 90’s, Branko Sturpar, formerly with Derby County as well as Ex Notts County right back and former assistant manager at Hinckley United, Charlie Palmer.

Some act un-cool and excited whilst others try and brush off the moment as one that doesn’t make them think “wow he used to play for…†for a few seconds. But as the meeting winds on, the aim is to get the squad seeing them as just one of the lads.

FORT WILLIAM RE-LABELLED

The Oban Times

May 9th 2005

With the biggest football game to effect our area of Fort William due to be watched on Sky Sports on 21st of this month, locals are starting to show great interest in the newest team in Fort William.

With Fort William AFC due to play their last ever game this weekend, the newly formed club will re-label themselves as Effemmess FC as this weekend passes us by and the question is, how many of us will care. With locals disillusioned with the way the previous club deteriorated, fans are now asking what does this new club have to offer?

Club spokesperson, Raptor stated:

“We can assure the locals that this club will have a major effect on the local region and in particular, the youngsters of this beautiful highlands town. With big plans and developments for the stadium and training centres, youngsters can be assured they will have a club to follow, support and maybe one day play for.

After speaking with our manager, Mr Luke Williamson, I can assure you he plans to use the locals as his source for building towards the future.â€

Effemmess FC will welcome locals and businesses from the surrounding area to a open invitation evening at the Caol FM Ess Training Centre this coming Friday to introduce locals and youngsters to the players, the management and those who will work behind the scenes.

Local Labour MSP, Peter Peacock, today claimed:

“It is great that such an investment has been made in our local region. We should welcome the initiative and see what it can bring to our communityâ€

The club confirmed in a statement that the club shall also be known as FM Ess 2006 as a year in which they will enter their first full calendar year as a Football Club. Meanwhile, they have let it be known that they shall be known as The Story Writers.

Recent addition to the coaching staff, Luther Blissett continued the praise of the venture claiming:

“Football brings people together in a way that nothing else can. If this can prove to be a success, there is no limit to what the town can achieve.â€

If you wish to meet any of the players, board or locals at the Welcoming evening in the Caol region, then doors open at 6pm and are open all through the night until you wish to leave. There will be prizes and gifts for youngsters and competitions to win tickets and shirts for the forthcoming season.

Moor Green aware of Conference Threat

The Sun

14th May 2005

Effemmess FC, the newly formed club from North of the border, today learnt they would meet Moor Green in Play-Off for a berth in next season’s Conference North Division.

Moor Green, who faced financial irregularities this campaign, have been aware of the threat for some time and after a mediocre season this time around, now know they must raise their game to keep their Nationwide Conference status.

FM Ess 2006 boss Luke Williamson said “We are anxious and excited about the tie. Can’t wait for it to be fair. But we have put in lots of hard work so we know what we have to do to achieve this for the club.â€

Meanwhile, Moor Green will go into the game on the back of three straight wins despite a mediocre season in the Conference North. However, there are several injury concerns ahead of the game and whilst defender Phil Midworth has returned to fitness, there are serious doubts over English, Elmes and Davis. Boss Bob Faulkener stated yesterday that “It is an unfortunate situation for the lads to find themselves in. It is not their fault we are in this game but we will have to give it everything.â€

Match Day looms

May 18th 2005

After some intense training, working on fitness, strength and agility, the FM Ess squad are looking sharp and in good form ahead of the game on the 21st. As the 18th is the lads last proper day in Fort William before the game, training is light hearted and enjoyable for all involved. Superwalli and uskopite are now fully fledged members of the squad, and with a neat back room team and top rate facilities, the side have prepared for Saturdays game in perfect conditions as though it was a Cup Final.

“This is our Cup final,†Williamson demands of his lads on the morning of the 18th. “We’ll have a steady day training and then get a good nights sleep in tonight. Any of you needing work down in the physio department do so. For Christ’s sake don’t push yourselves to far now.â€

In the breakfast room, the whole squad are busy eating their bannana’s and weetabix whilst Williamson speaks with Blissett and Waddle about what he wants from the morning session. The afternoon meanwhile will see most of the squad involved in a full size game with the odd exception.

“This is what I have in mind…†Williamson shows Peacemaker7 in the changing rooms.

“I’d have pretty much gone with the same there boss. Just one question mark on him!†Peacemaker points at one of the centre halfs. “I am not sure he is ready. That said, I am not sure we have two centre halves ready to be fair.â€

The pair ponder for a moment whilst several players walk through the change room.

“Morning gaffer†calls a chirpy Matt_no_7 as he passes through the changing room.

“MATTY! Here.†Williamson aggressively shouts him over before not acknowledging him.

Williamson and Peacemaker finish their conversation without naming any names and then the later leaves the former with young Matt_no_7.

“Matty, I don’t know your side of the story, and frankly I am not interested. But for now, your love life is non existent. I don’t want you chasing any skirt, especially around the training centre.â€

“Sorry boss, I…â€

“No excuses Matt. None what-so-ever. You won’t be playing a part unless I see a massive improvement in attitude and commitment. End of discussion. Get out there†and with it, Matty walks off, slightly subdued with Williamson not making eye contact with the youngsters.

May 19th 2005

As the squad arrives in Stoke for Saturdays game, the squad are of high spirit and ready for the challenge. On reflection, Matt_no_7 showed good form in Wednesday afternoon’s session despite featuring in the second string XI in a game that saw very little in terms of goals.

However, Terk has an elbow injury ruling him out of the game whilst Binny is recovering from a stomach bug. All suggestions point to veteran BobBev to start in goal although Binny may be risked at last minute.

Otherwise, there are many names that can fill many roles and Williamson has not committed himself to anything in particular. Upon arrival in Stoke, the squad drive up to the Britannia Stadium to check out the ground, changing room and pitch.

“Quite nice set-upâ€, Daz the Imp says to Dire Wrangle.

“Yeah I fancy this big style†as the pair stroll onto the pitch.

The grass is a lush green although the net are not in place, this being the only part of the arena not as it will be on Saturday. The camera’s are following the squad with both Channel 4 and BSkyB camera’s present. Meanwhile, Blissett and Matt_no_7 have a quiet word pitch side to discuss what happened the other day.

“Just knuckle down and give it 100%. No one can fault you for that†the elder pro said to the youngster.

Moor Green meanwhile have already visited the ground and have already appeared confident in front of the camera’s on Sky Sports News. But on the Stoke City turf, there can’t be anymore confidence than that present with the FM Ess squad.

“We are up for it. But we are not over-confident. We know there is a long way to go†Bazza tells the Sky camera crew. Besides him, MaccaSAFC explains:

“We have nothing to lose really. We are the under dogs. But we have worked hard to get to this stage and we are planning on going further.â€

On the far side of the pitch, away from the media circus and crowds of young players, Williamson and Flip are perched on the hoarding surrounding the pitch.

“Who’d have thought it?†Flip says reservedly.

“I know. One drunken betâ€. With this, Williamson turns to look at Flip with a wry smile. It is true! The pair cannot quite believe it. It is the stuff that dreams are made of. And with this, the pair take a gentle stroll back across the field which may well become hallowed for the duo.

PRE-MATCH TENSION:

May 20th 2005, 7pm

It is the night before the big one. With the squad all congregated in the lounge area at the Quality Hotel in Stoke-on-Trent. The mood is sombre and generally, the boyish moods and high spirits have taken a back seat with just 20 or so hours till Kick Off. The lads had spent the morning at the Water World Park as a hope to relax some nerves whilst a light training session was held on the Britannia pitch.

Set-pieces and penalties were the call of the day without camera’s present except for the annoying chaps from Channel 4 and in general, all parties looked fit and raring to go.

But now the lads are having a quiet evening.

“Ok fella’s, the Gaffer says you are all allowed two beers each should you wish too. Obviously except for those of you under age.†Peacemaker7 says.

With some light entertainment due to start, the guys are settled and awaiting a local comedian or two to begin in a private function room. Okkas, Peacemaker7 and Flip are using the time meanwhile to go over one or two ideas for the following day.

Okkas shows the pair his line-up with just two spaces on the form. Despite varied opinions in the camp, Okkas has opted to go with a very different formation for the big one.

“I just think if we pull it off, it’ll be in the bag. Sides wont understand our system†he tells Flip.

“Well that is why you get paid to manage. Just make sure we win eh?†he says with a raised eyebrow.

Before the comedy begins, Okkas addresses his men and tells them who has passed fitness tests and who will definitely be ruled out.

“Ok lads listen up. The guys have put all your training gear, matching track suits and so forth in your rooms. Morning call will be at around 9:30am but if you do wake up, feel free to join a few of us down in the breakfast room. We’ll be heading down to the stadium for around 1pm so I’ve put you all an itinerary in your rooms complete with the folder telling you about Moor Green. I know a few of you have looked through it but if any of you feel it can benefit you, go for it. I am not saying you have too.

Alright guys, the squad. We all know that Terk has been struggling so two keepers are in the 17 man squad. Binny, BobBev! Both in, Ok?â€

The pair nod at him and look down towards the floor in a nervous way.

“Defenders included are as follows, Spav, MaccaSAFC, OMDave, WLKRAS, King Mike. You are all in.â€

Some faces look expectedly disappointed. But Okkas would not have it any other way. Sam_015 is one of the disappointed ones along with Dixie Flatline in the defenders party. But both nod in agreement and also know this is a very long road.

“SDaveS, Flipsix3, Supa Playa, Peacemaker7, Dire Wrangle, Brian Of Nazarath and uskopite. You are all in the squad. Matt_no_7! So are you. DO NOT DISSAPOINT ME!â€

Matt_no_7’s eyes light up. Expecting the chop from the squad already, Matt has performed very well since his rollocking back in Fort William. But now he knows he has been shown his chance and his hard work and determination has brought him just that.

“So Arjen Robben†Okkas glances at him, “Simonh1979†he receives the same glance, “you are not going to be part of the squadâ€

“Finally, myself (Okkas) and Bazza will make the 17 up. Even if you are not in, I would prefer if we travelled as a squad and did everything together as a squad. There is space for all on the bench.â€

Okkas glances down at his notes. The gaffer is anxious himself as to what reaction he may receive from his own inclusion. But with Daz The Imp not 100% and Super Walli very young with little experience, it appears to even the harshest outsider that the right choice was made.

“It is going to be a long, long campaign. Our season starts tomorrow whilst everyone else’s has just finished. Win tomorrow and you can all fill in forms with your occupation as Full Time, Professional Footballer. Enjoy the evening.†And with it, Okkas, Peacemaker7 and Flipsix3 leave the room.

There are murmurs around the room. All players unsure how to react and what to say to each other regarding those left out. But there are no sulkers in the camp and when the comics enter the stage just a few minutes later, the boys are ready to relax and put tomorrow to the back of their minds.

Morning Of The Game

May 21st 2005

It is a warm day in Stoke and as fans dissent on the Staffordshire City of Stoke, Okkas is getting his squad ready for the coach trip to the stadium. It is 12:00 mid-day and with a good breakfast and relaxing morning behind the, the squad are all downstairs mingling around reception with the Channel 4 camera’s trying to keep out the way as best as possible.

Dire Wrangle, in the squad and excited about the game explained:

“This is our Cup Final. It is massive. So much at stake and I personally can’t wait.â€

The squad are all clobbered up in the Forum Blue tracksuits, with the newly named club printed across the chest and they advertising logo’s on the back. Considering their status, it is all very professional but Flip insisted that expense not be spared as the club aim to make it into the Conference at first attempt.

The squad have been told that the line-up will be revealed inside the changing rooms and as the guys wait for the coach to be packed up with all the kit and training gear, Brian Of Nazarath and MaccaSAFC can be seen head deep in the dossiers given to them by their gaffer.

“The planning is meticulous†Explains an experience Luther Blissett out in the car park. BobBev drops clues that he is starting however, carrying just a small satchel sized bag with his gloves in as opposed to Binny who leaves his in his kit bag.

Spav and WLKRAS are introducing youngsters Hell Hath No Fury and Dixie Flatline to poker whilst Okkas and Supa Playa are being intereviewed by Sky Sports and BBC Sport respectively.

As the coach is finally packed up, the squad jump onto the coach and the excitement really settles in. Next time they come to this hotel, they could be pro footballers.

EFFEMESS FC versus MOOR GREEN FC

Conference North Entry Play-Off

May 21st 2005 at the Stoke City, Britannia Stadium

With Moor Green FC kitted out in a Deep Blue, Effemmess FC will play in a change strip of Yellow and Red Hoops. But in terms of fans, FM Ess are unsure as to who will show them support. News filters through to the changing room that there are actually a few hundred fans from Fort William who have made the journey to support their towns new venture.

OMDave, WLKRAS, Flip and MaccaSAFC trot out onto the pitch for a a light kick about whilst waiting for the rest of the players and as they jog out, they are met with chants of “WHO ARE YA?†from the Moor Green few thousand. But MaccaSAFC, young and controversial, just claps to the opposition fans in a way that could wind-up some.

Shortly after, the rest of the squad join the four for a light warm-up before Charlie Palmer strolls out with Blissett to take the side through their paces. Behind one goal, there are some 1,500 fans who appear to be sat in the end reserved for FM Ess but unsure as to where they all come from, Bazza and King Mike laughingly suggest there are just a lot of well wishers for the new club.

But is appears they could be near the truth. Sky Sports News reveals several interviews with fans outside the stadium all cheering for the club from North of the border.

“They are living the dream†says one fan.

“It’s great to see a group of youngsters so determined to make steps in this way†says another.

“C’MONNNNNN†remarks a third.

Exciting certainly is the word. And whilst fans from SW6 may sing ‘Jose Mounrinho’ and the Hammers used to chant ‘Paolo Di Canio’, the new fans of FM Ess feel that “Bri-an Of Naz-a-rath†is more apt for the occasion. Whether those in the stands actually know which one he is, isn’t clear however, but none the less they are showing spirit.

As the boys spring out to end their warm-up, they jog gently back into the training rooms with the clock nearing 2.40pm.

“Ok, this will be quick. We all know what the system was that we’ve walked on. Here goes.†All players sit waiting their fate. Knees jangle together despite the warmth whilst some choose to focus on the floor rather than Okkas talking.

In goal, BobBev. Three across the back as follows: Spav left back. OMDave right side. MaccaSAFC playing central defence on your own. Midfield will be two of you in holding roles. Matt_no_7 and Flipsix3. Both of you know what is expected. Centre midfield just infront. Peacemaker7 and Supa Playa. You guys will pull the strings. Three man attack. Left wing, Brian Of Nazarath, right wing Dire Wrangle. Alone upfront will be myself. Any problems so far?â€

“NO BOSS†call a few.

“We know what we must do. Full-backs working hard, holding midfield men dropping into defence when we loose possession. Wingers creating space. Up and down, up and down. MaccaSAFC, we need to remain disciplined. That goes for all of you though. We all have to remain focused on task in hand.

The bench. SDaveS, WLKRAS, Bazza, Binny and uskopite. That leaves you not involved King Mike chap. Positive though ok?†he looks towards King Mike.

“Sure boss†says a disappointed but understood King Mike.

It is revealed once more what will be expected from Moor Green. Blissett takes over.

“Guys they will press up, they will batlle against us and they will aim to break our spirit early on. We have to keep heads up though. What ever happens. Work as hard as we can and we will give them a real game today. Self belief. Macca, your job is to control that back line ok. Your holding midfielders will pick up their attackers. We know how they drop off. We also know that is when their wingers like to push on. So Spav, OMDave. Tight ok? †Blissett looks across at Okkas who has had a few moments to prepare himself.

“Ok boys, last thing,†the Gaffer calls. “Skipper. We ahven’t discussed it really and there are reasons. We wanted to see who would be natural leaders. I am not assigning any particular one player as captain. But for today, Flipsix3 is you skipper.†Okkas nods to Flip and gives him a brief moment.

“Lets go out and just go for it guys. Loads at stake. How much do we want it? Yeah. Who are we?â€

“FM ESS†shouts a motivated and highly strung group.

“Who are we?†asks Okkas.

“FM ESS†comes the call even louder.

“WHO ARE WE?†Yells Blissett.

“FM ESS…C’MONNNNNNNNNNNN†and with it, the studs begin to cling on the tiles and the squad walk out into the tunnel….

FM Ess v Moor Green:

21-05-05

Kick-Off…

The two sides are lined up in the tunnel. It is estimated that the game could be worth up to a million pounds for the victors whilst the losers could face several years before getting a chance to make the Conference North again.

Moor Green:

James Coates, Junior English, Richard Follett, Guy Sanders, Lee Collins, John Snape, Ben Petty, Phil Midworth ©, Peter Foulds, Rob Elmes, Neil Davis.

FM Ess 2006

1.BobBev (GK)

2. OMDave (DR)

3. Spav (DL)

5. MaccaSAFC (DC)

4. Flipsix3 (DM)

6. Matt_no_7 (DM)

7. Peacemaker7 (MC)

8. Supa Playa (MC)

9. Dire Wrangle (AMR)

10. Brian Of Nazarath (AML)

11. Okkas (SC)

The sides wander out infront of 5,000 fans at the Stoke Britannia Stadium. Only 1,500 estimated to be in support of FM Ess but, compared to 6 months ago, that is 1,500 more than they had dreamed of. As the sides walk out side by side, the tannoy plays Land Of Hope and Glory. The fans clap and Moor Green’s support try and drown out the tune with their own chants.

Lined up on the pitch awaiting the formal handshakes of the Football League representatives, the players are jumping up and down on the spot, eager to begin with proceedings.

As the anthem is blasted out, it is time for focus and nerves to differentiate themselves and the sun beams down on a turf, as green as stripe of the Republic Of Ireland flag.

Flip and Okkas look down the line at the team mates before walking along the line to shake their opponents hand. Now it is show time…

After winning the toss, the yellow and red hoops of FM Ess begin to kick off in front of 5,000 expectant fans. Okkas does a little Lampard style sprint on the spot whilst BobBev turns and claps to his fans behind the goal.

“HE’S BIG, HE’S OLD, HE’S HIS LEGEND WILL BE TOLD BOBBY BEV, BOBBY BEV, HE’S BIG, HE’S OLD…†the veteran keeper turns back to the field of play with a grin as wide as the gap between Fort William and England.

Flipsix3 claps loudly in the heart of the pitch looking to enlighten his team-mates and stir some passion. And with it, Supa Playa and Okkas get the game underway.

3 minutes;

Dire Wrangle gains possession just inside the FM Ess half and once with the ball under control, he looks up and starts to test Follett for the first time in the game. With lack of movement just inside however, it appears he only has one route so the nippy winger attacks the line.

Follett holds up play well however before Faulds comes crashing in from behind with a reckless tackle of the tricky winger.

“Brian, hold, hold. Let Macca get forward†Blissett calls. With it, MaccaSAFC sprint forward with adequate cover provided.

Peacemaker7 jogs along to place the ball down for the free-kcik. With numbers thrown forward early on, Peacemaker7 curls in a deep ball which tests the decision making of Moor Green keeper Coates. As the keeper wanders across his box, MaccaSAFC raises higher than all others and nods a ball across the face of the goal.

Sky Commentator Martin Tyler says:

“Great header at back post…and here is FLIPPPPPP, Oh no. Great opportunity for FM Ess early on.â€

Flip arrived well at the near post to get on the end of the headed ball that Macca squared but with pressure from Collins, Flip got under the ball and skied an effort from close range.

11 minutes;

Moor Green begin to turn up the heat somewhat on FM Ess. Davis is sent clean through on 11 minutes after a defence splitting ball from Snape in midfield but with little pressure on the forward, he slotted the ball just wide of a stranded BobBev.

Shortly after this, Sanders direct ball from centre half finds Elmes in space after he dropped off marker Matt_no_7. But with great determination, the holding midfield man manages to chase back with a last ditch tackle just as Elmes pulls the trigger.

15 minutes;

As told on Sky Sport

“Here is Petty, he beats OMDave. Moor Green are really piling the pressure on now. Petty makes the byeline…it’s a good cross and….OH NO! SURELY A PENALTY.†Tyler proclaims

“No, No†enthuses Andy Gray, referee has waved play-on.

“Well somehow he has. Not quite sure how but MaccaSAFC appeared to have his arms all over Davis. Davis perhaps went down easy but from here it looks like a penalty.â€

17 minutes;

17 minutes on the clock and FM Ess are still camped inside their own box. With MaccaSAFC seemingly the busiest man on the pitch, OMDave and Spav seem to be forced narrower and narrower with each minute.

Martin Tyler

“Here is Spav with the long ball down the line…Brian Of Nazarath holding it up well. He looks strong on the ball too. He turns….Beats English at right back with ease but support is scarce.

He whips the ball in towards the edge of the box, OKKASSSSSS on the end of it…surely…surely†as the ball arrives at Okkas’ feet, he composedly turns Sanders who dives in eagerly, Coates, however is sharp and alert and closes down instantly.

“Can he, can he†Tyler excitedly shouts as Okkas delays his striker. “And yes, it’s there, 1-0 FM ESS…†as Okkas roles the ball past keeper Coates.

BBC Sport with Bright & Pougatch

“well it was against the run of play Brighty, tell us more?â€

“Yes Mark, in fairness, FM Ess have been under the cosh but some great play down the left set-up the move. I think it was Brian Of Nazarath whop beat his man and delivered the ball and although he delayed the striker, the player-boss Okkas eventually slid it past Coates in the Moor Green goal.†Bright comments.

“Anything else of note?†asks Pougatch.

“Not really. Moor Green has a penalty appeal turns down about 5 minutes before the goal but in general, it is a bit of a rough, bitty game.â€

“Cheers Brighty…â€

26 minutes

With the Moor Green fans raising the stakes somewhat in the vocal department, FM Ess have been under pressure for the past 5 or so minutes. Flipsix3 and matt_no_7 are working hard however and the supply for the Moor Green side seems cut off somewhat with a tough tackling midfield. BobBev makes a string of good stops on 29 minutes but is beaten on the half hour mark when Petty chips the keeper from the edge of the box. Despite this, the bar comes to the rescue of FM Ess and OMDave clears for a corner.

33 minutes;

Petty continues to pull the string for Moor Green in midfield and on 33 minutes see’s his strike from 25 yards crash against the upright. Dire Wrangle gives his side some much needed rest bite on 35 minutes when he picks up the ball on the flank and runs at the Moor Green defence but, with energy levels apparently lacking, supports is too scare and a Okkas aimed cross is intercepted by Collins.

40 minutes;

Sky Sports

“Now here is Petty….finds Faulds….and that is GREAT TACKLE from OMDave.

OMDave now turns defence into attack and aims to release Peacemaker7 down the centre of the park…It’s good control from the central midfield man. †With this, both Brian and Dire give options whilst Okkas seems occupied with Sanders and Collins.

“English is caught out if Peacemaker can find Brian Of Nazarath….Here he is now. Good pace…great cross. The Clearance only as far as Supa Playa….He shoots….Oh my word what an effort from the 20 year old and somehow, he has to watch agonisingly as his effort smashes against the bar and over.â€

45 minutes;

BBC Sport

“Anything happening brighty?â€

“Well as you ask me, Moor Green are coming forward in their droves. The board by the way just gone up. “ minutes of injury time left. Snape and Petty are getting loads of time on the ball as time goes on. Here is Davis…and….1-1†Bright glances across at Pougatch with a reserved smile as if to suggest it has been coming.

“Anyone at fault?â€

“Not really Mark. More a case of them over-powering FM Ess down the middle with a great counter move.â€

“So, the better team in the first half?†Pougatch enquires.

“I’d say it is unfair to suggest either team has been better. Coates has had an easier time then BobBev though and as we speak now, Petty is back on the ball and causing all SORT OF PROBLEMSSSSS and OH NO. Bad news for FM Ess because straight from Kick Off, they are now 2-1 down.â€
