GOOD VIBRATIONS;

1ST August 2005

After the successful opening of Fortress FMS, spirits are certainly high in the Fort William camp. The board, basically comprising of Raptor and Flipsix3 reveal to the press they are totally sure they have made the right decision in giving Okkas the managers job despite the involvement of the likes of Wilkins, Blissett and Baric.

The Oban Times portrays a real success at The Fortress and stands behind the club in their fight to work their way into the English Football League. In more relevant news, uskopite signs a deal as expected keeping him at the club until 2008 leaving just BobBev on a part-time deal.

Several sources within the club state that they were disappointed to not be involved in the stadium opener against Gretna but explained how they felt a mix of determination and disappointment on the evening which will enable them to force out opportunities at the club. A spokesperson for the club reveals;

“Okkas feels that the whole squad is vital in the club achieving success. Rotation is sure to feature this season as he wishes to keep a talented squad happy.â€

Outside of the Fortress, Gainsborough signs Steve Housham from Brigg. Housham was touted by several clubs ahead of the season’s opener but will start the season for the Gainsborough outfit.

Fixtures…

FM Ess 2006 will start their campaign on the 13th August with a home tie against Barrow. Barrow, managed by Lee Turnbull, will have high expectations with main striker Neil Tarrant, a former Villa man, eyeing early season goals in the first league game.

Following this, FM Ess will entertain Worcester at home on the 16th, followed by trips to Redditch (20th) and Lancaster (27th), both of whom have made changes in their playing personnel with signings aplenty.

Elsewhere, the opening day matches up Gainsborough verse Lancaster, Hinckley entertain Northwich Victoria, Alfreton host Harrogate, Stafford meet Staylebirdge and in the pick of the ties, fancied Nuneaton travel to Worksop.

FM Ess 2006 verse Queen Of The South

Tuesday 2nd August 2005;

Friendly Fixture from Fortress FMS

With the second full-feature friendly from Fortress FMS welcoming Queen Of The South to the mountainous stadium, Okkas hints that the side will be altered when posed question from the local press on Tuesday morning.

Queen Of The South name their side at 5pm as;

Mackay, Payne, Oxley, Carr, Wood, Tearney, Mackay, Bowey ©, Lovell, McNiven, English.

“We fully expect QOfS to start with a 4-4-2 system. They offer nothing else from previous experiences but we will fight this with our planned 3-2-2-2-1 formation. We feel we can get this working so we will go with it from the off and although the names on the team-sheet will alter, they will all occupy familiar roles†explains Okkas to the Oban Times.

BBC Radio Scotland’s Rob McAuley welcomes listeners;

“And welcome to the Fortress for the 3rd time in three days. The Storymakers are hoping to follow up Sundays great display with a win here verse Queen Of The South who themselves have made progress during the summer and have high hopes for the season ahead.

Okkas names a very different side with Terk, recovered from a back injury, starting his first game between the sticks for FM Ess. At the back, Sam_015 starts centrally with OMDave to his right, Spav to his left, and holding midfielders Matt_no_7 and SDaveS playing infront of him. Centre of the park will partner uskopite, who’ll celebrate signing a new deal yesterday with a start today. Alongside ArjenRobben. No listeners, not THAT Arjen Robeen but young ArjenRobben from Ashford in Kent. Finally, to the attacking trio which will feature Dire Wrangle playing right wing, Supper Walli wide left, and the boss, Okkas, himself as the lone striker.

Most of the remainder of the squad make up the bench meanwhile with only Binny and MaccaSAFC not featuring. Reports suggest that Macca has firmly established himself as the star man at the back and the opportunity has been handed to the others to prove themselves this evening.

With me now is Luther Blissett, Luther…welcome!†McAuley says.

“Hello Robâ€

“So what can we expect tonight?â€

“Well a tough game first and foremost. But we will be seeing a few new faces getting a run out so hopefully, some patience from the fans.†Luther smiles at the presenter from the cold gantry in the roof of the main stand. It is a pleasant enough evening in Fortress FMS but for those not used to the northern parts, the cold wind can often catch one by surprise.

“Excellent stuff Luther. So obviously a win is hoped for in the FM Ess camp?â€

“Of course. But it is not the be all and end all. We want to see who can raise their game, play some football and stay composed.†Luther at this point stands to make his way to the changing rooms leaving McAuley to report.

“So†McAuley enthuses, “It’s FM Ess, verse Queen Of The South…â€

The Oban Times –

3-08-05

FM Ess brought themselves somewhat back down to earth last night with a performance described as “very much within themselves†by Ray Wilkins. With the 3 man defence still employed, FM Ess looked stretched and struggling at times with McNiven and Lovell causing several early problems for the visiting Q Of S.

However, things did take a turn for the better when on 8 minutes, Matt_no_7 started a move from deep finding Dire Wrangle with a long range pass to the wide flank. He then cut inside quickly from the left back before driving inwards before delivering a delicately chipped ball to ArjenRobben who subsequently drilled an effort at the foot of the post before seeing it go wide.

After the game, Luther Blissett explained;

“We caused enough problems early on for them but perhaps didn’t continue to stretch them as much as we would have liked.â€

Despite this, Okkas found himself with time to coolly slot home on 17 minutes only to be adjudged offside after fine work from Dire Wrangle again created space and as things were going, FM Ess were looking good.

Super Walli, playing slightly out-of-position on the left wing was looking bright in possession but offered little in terms of cover whilst uskopite watched the game drift by him somewhat in the middle of midfield.

After the break however, FM Ess were tested from the off with tearney and Bowey causing problems from midfield early on. Bowey twice tested Terk from range although the young keeper stood strong from good efforts on each occasion. Okkas was fidning himself in very little attacking moves despite the good early signs meanwhile and on 55 minutes, Okkas, ArjenRobben, SDaveS, Sam_015, Spav, OMDave and Terk were replaced with BobBev, Daz The Imp, KingMike, Hell Hath No Fury, Dixie Flatline and WLKRAS.

This did not look to clever however just minutes later when Wood played a fine ball deep into the FM Ess half before the defence watched as Mackay nodded down to Bowey who slotted home from the edge of the box to leave the home side catching flies.

As the game wore on, it appeared that the goal would push the home side into some sort of revival. But Daz The Imp looked isolated whilst the signs of the times showed Hell Hath No Fury and Matt_no_7 looked to have too much work to do infront of their back line.

On 79 minutes, KingMike looked isolated himself with very few covering runs from midfield. Bowey, the skipper of Q Of S again began to pull string sliding a fine pass in behind KingMike and Dixie Flatline before finding sub McLaughlin in space who rounded keeper BobBev far too easily before drilling into an empty net.

After a dressing down in the changing room, Okkas gave the press a few choice words demanding that;

“Whilst this side was new and still trying to get to know each other, the display was lacking passion and maybe one of two players were strolling through the game as though they ahd already earnt their wages by just turning up.â€

If the game proves anything, it is that a title romp is very out-of-the-question. There is plenty of work to be done but whilst this may be the case, the side is capable of playing neat football when needed. Spav, Matt_no_7 and Dire Wrangle all looked the part meanwhile and can come away from the match with something to be proud of.

Four-our-Two Magazine

2005/2006 Season Preview;

With the new season now firmly on the horizon, excitement is at fever pitch, more so in Fort William than anywhere in the UK. With the nation’s newest football club, Effemmess FC, the highland situated club are looking forward to their first season in the English Conference North.

Managed by Luke Williamson (aka Okkas) and funding by the financial power of Flipsix3, FM Ess, or the Storymakers as they are known, are expected to struggle in their first real season as a club despite some high profile staff within the club.

The Storymakers have brought in the likes of Ray Wilkins, Luther Blissett and Otto Baric whilst the squad contains a mix of youth and age experience that will hopefully guide the club some a satisfactory amount of on-the-pitch success.

Players such as MaccaSAFC, Bazza and Peacemaker7 are seen as the big names in the playing ranks but questions will be raised about ambition as such stars will be expectedly interested in moves to bigger footballing names in their reputations continue to increase.

Alfreton Town:

Managed by Gary Mills, Alfreton breezed their regional league in 2004/2005 and are expected to make some sort of progress this forthcoming season despite only Darren Beasley being brought in on a free transfer. Star striker Jon Stevenson, a former Leicester City man, will hope to fire his side up the league after a stalling career which has seen him fail to make an impact with Swindon Town and more recently Cambridge City.

Barrow

Barrow travel to the featured FM Ess on the opening day and will hope that manager Lee Turnbull will have hot shot Neil Tarrant on form against the leagues newest members. The side from Barrow-on-furness will be something of a hit and miss side this coming season however with the club not fancied to get to far whilst expected not to struggle. Simon Wiles arrived from Blackpool for a small fee of £1k meanwhile along with several free transfers.

Droylsden

Hotly tipped to compete at the business end of the division this coming season, Droylsden from the Greater Manchester region will look to experienced forward Kevin Rapley upfront, and former Leeds United keeper Shaun Allaway at the back to guide the team to a promotion push. In midfield, former Man Utd trainee Ian Fitzpatrick will be one of the sides flair players whilst Robert Wright from Charlton joins Allaway as a fairly high key signing for Dave Pace’s squad.

FM Ess

The Storymakers will have written the most amazing story of all if they can achieve instant success in the lower realms of the English football league this coming season. With no new signings since the play-off tie with Moor Green at the tail end of last season, Okkas has assembled a work-manlike side who will look to grind out results against side of a similar ability whilst attacking like minded attacking teams with their flair and counter-attacking ability.

Gainsborough Trinity

Paul Mitchell has seen much change in his summer of revamp with 7 new faces coming in for the Gainsborough outfit. Most notably, former Newcastle man David Cowan arrived on a free after several years with the Magpies whilst former Wednesday man Lee Needham will be the club biggest asset as an assertive left sided defender. The club are expected to make little impact this season however and are still lacking in attack.

Harrogate

With experience a plenty in the likes of Lee Nogan, Danny Ryan and Paul Stoneman, these veterans of the football league suggest the Harrogate club have what it takes to make a push for the conference national. Neil Aspin will take his side into the forthcoming season hoping Richard Dunning, former Blackburn Rovers man, will still be part of the squad however with interest from the lower leagues. Jez Mitchell is the only arrival meanwhile with the youngster from Chesterfield expected to make an impact from midfield.

Hednesford

After spells with Pompey, Birmingham and more recently Walsall, Lee Vaughan joins Chris Brindleys Conference North side for the coming season with intent to make the football league in his own right. Elsewhere, highly rated Picard will be a key figure in defence whilst Lee Williams, a veteran with former clubs such as Mansfield, Villa, Peterborough and Cheltenham. However, Hednesford are expected to struggle this season at will be grateful to retain their league position come May.

Hinkcley United

The Leicestershire club have high hopes fro life in the conference North with a new stadium and money at their disposal. Manager Dean Thomas was said to be outraged in the summer at the departure of his assistant Charlie Palmer who he claimed was “poached†by FM Ess whilst veteran Melville soon replaced him at the club in a playing and coaching capacity. Former Leicester midfielder Sam McMahon has stated his intent to make his name once again this coming season whilst Marc McGregor has promised to regain his form from a few years ago which saw him noticed as a hot marksman with several non-league clubs.

Hucknall Town

Hucknall will welcome visitors to Watnall Road this season as they bid to make a name for themselves after a high profile non-league cup run last season. Former school team-mate of Okkas, Robert Gill has promised to gun down FM Ess when they arrive in Okkas’ home city later in the season whilst several league veterans such as Chris Beech, James Lindley and Alistair Asher suggest that Hucknall Town could give boss Dean Barrick plenty to shout about despite no new faces in the summer.

Hyde United

Manger Steve Waywell will look to influential faces such as John O’Kane for the forthcoming campaign with only Robbie Williams arriving on a fee transfer in the summer. Experienced Tony Ellis has much hope pinned on him for goals meanwhile whilst the Tigers are tipped to have a mediocre season in the conference north.

Kettering Town

Former Notts County player Kevin Wilson has been angered with suggestions that Paul Gascoigne may replace him at the helm of Kettering for the coming season after reports that the former England man was showing interest in buying the club. With former Chelsea full-back Andy Myers being a high profile summer arrival, Kettering will look to Roy Essandoh and Oliver Burgess to give their season hope after both men looked sharp in pre-season. 6 other names join Myers at the club including Scott Wilson.

Lancaster City

Phil Scott’s side possess little attacking flair at present and due to this, pundits have tipped the side for a major struggle this coming season. League veteran David Philips, most memorably for his time with Forest in the Collymore-Roy era will give the midfield a steady head, whilst Andy Scott at the back will re-assure the fans with his composure. But with Justin Day the only attacking signing this summer, many feels that a player unproven at this level, at the age of 33, offers nothing in terms of hope.

Leigh RMI

With a rich history at this level, the Railway Mechanics Institute will have high hopes for the coming season with two former Liverpool trainee’s, in the form of Roscoe and Armstrong, their main man. Andy Nelson’s side will have to battle hard though and with Colin Woodthorpe a late signing from Bury, perhaps this Leigh side have the strength to compete this season.

Northwich Victoria

Steve Burr has heaped pressure on his side stating that “this side should be winning things†prior to the season’s big kick off. With a lethal attack of Johnny Allan and former Newcastle man Paul Brayson, Northwich can look to a solid and experienced centre half in the form on Peter Handyside to help shore up the back-line. Punters are tipping the club for success this year also with more money placed on the Victoria boys than any other with bookmakers.

Nuneaton Borough

The midlands club, manager by Roger Ashby have made very few additions to their strong squad leaving many fans to question the ambition of the club. But with former West Brom youngster Ross Clarke arriving on a free, spirits have taken a sudden rise going into their first league game with a sudden belief that this could be their year. Former Telford man Gary Fitzpatrick will bring some stability to the midfield meanwhile whilst loan signing Dom Pearimin from Leicester City could offer a new option in attack with a hardworking approach and a good eye for goal.

Redditch United

Rod brown has brought in a host of free transfers to bolster his small squad for the forthcoming season in a hope to hot up competition in his ranks. Whilst the club are not one of those expected to struggle, non-league pundits have said they’ll make little impact at the top end of the table either with former Forest and Blackburn keeper David Stevenson the only arrival expected to really hold down a place. Lee Yates is the clubs most valuable asset meanwhile with a good footballing brain from the centre of the park.

Stafford Rangers

Phil Robinson has introduced only a few new faces for the coming season and will hope his side can establish themselves as early season hopefuls after much hope has been placed on the Stafford club. Attacking arrivals such as Vill Powell and Peter Thompson will have to prove they can score goals at this level whilst an experienced player from Crewe in the form of Kevin Street will give balance to a energetic midfield. Placed as one of the favourites with Ladbrokes, Robinson refused to admit he was expected to deliver with such a strong squad.

Stalybridge Celtic

John Reed has an interesting squad for the forthcoming season with a real feeling that his club can succeed in the league. Experienced defender Rob Edwards arrives from Huddersfield after a long career in the football league whilst in Mark Davison, Celtic have the hottest striker in the division who is favourite to finish top scorer this coming season. Former Manchester United trainee Craig Coates has expectation on his shoulders meanwhile whilst Paul Pettinger, formerly of Leeds and Rotherham gives the Celtic’s a good goalkeeper.

Vauxhall Motors

Favourites to finish bottom, Owen Brown knows his Motors side must compete with all the lower placed teams if he has any hope of keeping his side up this season. With little in terms of new faces at the club, Brown hopes that Darren Wright, formerly of Droylsden and Chester can add some creativity to his somewhat stale side.

Worcester City

New signing Tom Bates, fresh from the YTS scheme at Coventry City has given boss Andy Preece hope for the coming year after agreeing a short term deal despite interest from league clubs. Lewis Gobern, loaned from Wolves, will give much needed substance to a depleted midfield meanwhile as Preece has to pray that injuries do not strike early. Veteran full-back Des Lyttle will play on this season after fears he may retire whilst William Hill place Worcester as the only other team to join Vauxhall Motors as hot tips for bottom place ahead of FM Ess.

Workington

Boss Tommy Cassidy has signed a whole host of free transfers for the coming season whilst admitting “even I am unsure of what I can expectâ€. Dan Dillon arrives on a seasons loan from Carlisle in the centre of midfield whilst Mick Galloway adds experience to a midfield not expected to cause many sides problems this year.

Worksop

Ronny Glavan brings several new faces to the club for the 05/06 season whilst knowing that former Man Utd youngster Callum Flanagan is the key to success for the Mansfield based club. Despite this, John Blackstone is a welcomed newbie from Hartlepool whilst Adam Sollit, an experienced league keeper will give re-assurance to and unsure back-line. The bookmakers are unsure which way the season could go for Worksop with varied opinions allowing punters good prices on both promotion and relegation.

Final Preparations…

After two varied performances in pre-season friendlies, and games against reserve sides from Scotland, FM Ess prepare for the season opener with Barrow with a game behind closed doors within the squad. For one game only Okkas will split the boys into a first XI and Reserve side for a one off game to pit players up against one another.

Defending the idea, Okkas said;

“It’ll be great to see how certain lads come up against each other. I am not putting my strongest XI in one side. Far from it. I want to split the boys up as even as possible to make the game meaningful.â€

Elsewhere, Dean Barrick, boss at Hucknall Town laughs off FM Ess’ bid at glory this coming season stating:

“It has taken some guys years and years to get used to this level. Players have spent careers without progressing so to suggest this new bunch will teach us a thing or two is quite laughable.â€

Despite these comments, uskopite, FM Ess’ American youngster responds in the press explaining;

“We have lots of passion and determination in this squad and I must admit, I have taken time to adjust to the physical approach over here but we are more than ready for the season to start.â€

Following this, Peacemaker7 explains;

“It has been an excellent pre-season and good start to a new era. I see us progressing from hereâ€.

Meanwhile, Chris Waddle is linked with the managers job at Bristol Rovers, causing unrest within the Fortress FMS. However, club insiders insist they cannot see the former England star leaving the club after a promising start to his new role.

In training, Bazza in particular shows real intent in the week building up to the First XI v Reserves game. His form is described as ‘outstanding’ by Blissett whilst team mates also reveal that Spav has made a himself a real favourite within the players ranks.

Game Behind Closed Doors…

After an enjoyable final weeks training, FM Ess have some interesting results stemming from their behind closed doors game.

Okkas splits the squad up with no real hints as to who will feature in the sides first line-up come the opening day of the season. Despite this, the game is rather one sided with a 3-1 scoreline flattering the defeated squad managed by Charlie Palmer.

FM Ess (managed by Luther Blissett);

Okkas leads the line for the XI with Blissett in the dug out. The same formation as ever see’s OMDave at right back, Spav start at left back and Sam_015 feature as the central defender. This trio lines up ahead of Terk in goal whilst the midfield see’s King Mike and SDaveS line up as holding players. ArjenRobben and Bazza start the game as the two wide men hoping to cause fellow club-mates problems playing behind their boss Okkas.

Daz The Imp and youngsters Kevin Reid start the game on the bench.

FM Ess Reserves (Charlie Palmer);

Palmer lines his side up in a carbon copy format with Super Walli leading the line. His support comes from uskopite and Dire Wrangle on the left and right respectively. Palmer looks to Brian Of Nazarath and Flipsix3 to inspire from the two central roles whilst the holding roles are occupied by Hell Hath No Fury and Supa Playa. Other than this, WLKRAS starts right back, Dixie Flatline left back and MaccaSAFC at centre half with Binny in goal.

Simonh1979 starts on the bench for Palmer’s side along with BobBev.

First half…

Blissett’s side cause the early running with ArjenRobben and Bazza looking extremely bright and lively on the ball. The later of the two has an early effort blocked from distance when he is closed down by Flip before a rare break for Palmer’s XI see’s Super Walli find a gap behind Sam015 before Terk is delicately chipped from inside the box to give the reserves the lead.

Despite this goal against the run of play, The first XI never look in too much trouble and on 18 minutes, Okkas interlinks with Bazza before the player boss see’s his effort drilled against the foot of the post. However, Bazza is sharp off the mark and manages to follow up well into the empty net to make it 1-1.

On a less positive note, Okkas is felled on 23 minutes when MaccaSAFC puts in a clumsy tackle on his boss. The tackle gives the first XI a dangerous set-piece although meanwhile, Daz The Imp trots on to take the attacking role on the right, with Bazza moving into Okkas’ centre forward role.

Bazza steps up once the game re-starts and drives a fine effort into the top corner of the net to raise the tempo somewhat and with his 2nd, he gives the first XI a 2-1 lead.

Second half…

The reserves are continued to be outplayed and the introduction of Simonh1979 for Brian Of Nazarath makes little difference as Blissett watches his XI control the game. Bazza and Daz The Imp continue to move well in attack and look well together whilst Peacemaker7 pulls the string from deep.

On the hour mark, Bazza wins possession inside his own half and progresses into a strong run. After beating Hell Hath and Dixie Flatline, Bazza see’s a curling effort deflected off the heel of WLKRAS and spin away from Binny’s out stretched hand into the back of the net.

BobBev plays the final half hour of the game but the action goes by without any real talking points and the first XI play out the final few minutes without any problems or any concern for their lead.

END OF CHAPTER ONE

Previously…

The club has taken huge steps since that drunken night when Williamson was offered a bet he could not refuse. Now, with Flipsix3’s cash behind him and a squad of youngsters determined to make a career in the game, the town of Fort William is set to host the first season in the Conference League by a Scotish team.

FM Ess, or Effemmess FC, are comfortably settled in the Fortress FMS in the mountainous base of Ben Nevis with an experienced back room and strong looking group of players who may finally make a young managers dream come true…

But can he really make the football league? Just like that? Well…

CHAPTER TWO…

It is the middle of the night and Okkas stumbles down stairs towards the kitchen to get a glass of water. As he steps past the lounge, he see’s a bright light already emitting from the kitchen area.

“Morning…I think?†Okkas questions.

“Alright mate? Can’t sleep either†Luther asks.

The pair are still sharing with Flip and Peacemaker at the building previously known as the FM Ess HQ. Not that they are not looking for somewhere better or more private. But deep down, perhaps the four guys are enjoying this whole football club game more than they are letting on.

“It’s a 24 hour ain’t it?†Okkas asks with raised eyebrows. He opens the fridge to pull out a pint of milk and proceeds to gulp it down.

“You see Luke, it is as hard as you make it in a way. But, if you enjoy the game as much as you appear to, you’ll enjoy it all. Every day is a new task, a new challenge, more hope.†Okkas sits besides Luther at the breakfast bar.

“I do love it. I just can’t switch off…ever!â€

“I’ve heard that one many a time. And I tell you, I’ve heard it from some of the best managers around. Not just any old gafferâ€

At this point, Luther sips his cup of coffee as Okkas watches Flip stumble into the kitchen door. It appears it may be a long night.

BIG MATCH PREVIEW;

The Oban Times – Thursday 11th August 2005

With the opening league game just days away, Fort William has reached fever pitch with some 4,000 fans expected to fill the new Fortress Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Okkas has prepared his side for the game with an intense summer programme but now all the talking has come to an end and he has his squad ready for the visit of Barrow.

Barrow come into the game on back of a solid pre-season campaign with just one defeat verse MK Dons. Graham Anthony is the only absentee from the squad travelling north for the visit to Fort William whilst Okkas is set to miss the tie himself after injuring himself in a training game earlier in the week.

Other than this, team news has been varied in national press releases with many pundits trying to guess the FM Ess line-up. However, with a mixed pre-season, no one is quite sure which XI will get the nod come Saturday.

One obvious started will be striker Bazza, should Okkas fail to make fit for the weekend. Bazza has enjoyed a good pre-season and netted a hat trick at the weekend in a final pre-season training match.

Totalbet.com have surprised many however, placing prices around 1/33 for the visitors Barrow to win.

Outside of the club, boss Okkas confirmed he enjoyed watching his beloved Chelsea beat Arsenal 3-2 with skipper John Terry net twice after Hernan Crespo opened the scoring. Hleb and Henry were on target for Arsenal in a open game that saw the sides go in 3-2 at the break.

FM Ess 2006 verse Barrow

English Conference North – August 13th 2005

“Hello and welcome to Fortress FMS for this, the opening league game, of the new season. With me, welcome to Richard Gough, former Scotland, Rangers and Everton man who is looking forward to the game as much as any of us…†suggest BBC Scotland Andy Payne.

“Yes Andy, I expect a terrific atmosphere here with the fans already making it a party feeling within the ground. I don’t expect teams will like the long trip up north whereas the FM Ess boys will become accustomed doing it every other week. Should be an interesting year†Gough explains.

“But Richard, surely this side hold as much hope as Exeter v Man Utd last season? â€.

“Well I’ve seen what the bookies are offering and I must admit I’ve had a few quid on these lads because they are much brighter than they’ve been given credit for.â€

It is a cool, August afternoon and whilst fans are expected to turn out, it is believed the attendance will somewhat short of the 4,000 predicted by the papers. Williamson (Okkas) and Luther Blissett have a prepared side however and with an intimidating stadium with the mountainous back drop, the home side feel they can spoil the party for some forthcoming visitors to the new stadium.

“Well our team news,†explains Andy Payne, “has just arrived with us in the gantry, and the only real shock for us is that Player-Manager Okkas has passed a fitness test this lunch time and will start for the Story Makersâ€

Looking down on the Forum Blue seating, both Payne and Gough are secretly admiring the professionalism of such a new and youthful venture.

“So here we go, in goal, young Israeli shot-stopper Binny gets the nod ahead of sub keeper Terk who’ll line up on the bench.â€

The commentators glance down as the two keepers are warming up with BobBev coaching the duo through their pre-match preparations.

“A three man defence will feature WLKRAS at right back and Spav at left back. The young and composed Macca_SAFC has received the nod at centre half meanwhile despite the recent impressive displays of Sam_015.â€

The news in defence will come as something of a disappointment for OMDave who will have fully expected the right back berth to be his own. All managers can show faith and favour without stating their preferences and within the squad, many would have felt OMDave was one of the certain starters.

â€Peacemaker7 will start in a holding role on the left hand side of midfield alongside the clubs financial clout-man Flipsix3. I think that this pair will give great composure and sensibility to the starting XI wouldn’t you agree Richard?â€

“For sure Andy†replies the broad Scot. “From what I have seen of this side, these two can play a little. They will try and control the tempo and will give great support to a young back-line.â€

With this said, once again OMDave may be slightly gutted at his omission as will Hell Hath No Fury who had looked a strong candidate for one of these two roles.

“Matt_no_7 and Supa Playa will start the opener in that heart of the midfield. 22 and 20 respectively, these two will give great energy and creative sparks from the centre of the park.â€

Once again, whilst some may be slightly low about not getting the nod, this pair appear the obvious choice on the reflection of a busy pre-season.

“And finally, the attacking trio will feature the gaffer, Okkas at the tip of the three man attack whilst Bazza misses out and will sit on the bench and on the wide left role, Brian Of Nazarath will start whilst Dire Wrangle will play wide right. Richard Gough is with me as I mentioned…Richard any thoughts?â€

“Well they look sharp, certainly young! Maybe that could be a problem but who knows. But I predict this bunch will come out of the blocks bright, sharp and very attacking.â€

With that said, Andy Payne leaves Fortress FMS for a round-up for the preview elsewhere in the leagues whilst the lads trudge back towards the changing rooms ready for their final team talk before the big kick off begins.

“After the break, its FM Ess verse Barrow…â€

The build up

FM Ess verse Barrow;

“Hello and welcome back, I am Andy Payne and with me, Richard Gough, for this, the seasons opener for the new boys in the English Conference North†introduces Payne.

“We are second away now from kick-off so as we have looked at FM Ess’ side, we can take a brief look at the visitors Barrow, who’s boss Lee Turnbull promised to show no welcoming gestures this afternoon in Fort William. Richard?†and with it, Payne allows Gough to run through the Barrow side.

“Thanks Andy, well this Barrow side pulls no surprises from what has been suggested after pre-season. Richard Knight starts in goal behind a back four that, from left to right, features Scott Maxfield, Michael Gough, Jon Smith and Darren Edmondson.

Midfield is steady looking with Danny Forde and Steve Flitcroft the key for the visitors today. They need to match the enigmatic duo of Supa Playa and Matt_no_7 in my opinion whilst wide men Wiles and Ridley are certainly capable of causing problems for Okkas’ back-line. To cap that off, hit-man Neil Tarrant starts amid fears he may be out with an ankle strain. He’ll be partnered by Anton Smith in attack.â€

“Thanks Richard†Andy politely glances over to the former Scotland centre half. “And below me now, the sides are walking out, led by referee Steven Miles who I am told will be expected to make his Football League debut this month after a very impressive season last year in the Unibond League.â€

As the sides walk out side by side, ticker tape fills the sky with several firework explosions’s filling the atmosphere with a forum blue and gold lights effect. The scene is set and the moment has an FA Cup final feel to it with players looking around to see if they can see family and players nervously strolling on knowing the cameras are rolling.

Channel 4 television have made its presence felt to with hoarding displaying their name as well as camera’s all over the stadium. Although BBC Scotland won’t advertise it, the twice weekly programme on the club will start on C4 in the coming weeks with Sunday and Thursday evening’s the allotted time given.

“Well what a sight this is listeners. If you get a chance, catch it on highlights or the news because this is a remarkable arena for a club of such minute history. I can’t quite make out amongst the smoke who it is leading the FM Ess side out at present but as soon as we know, so too will you.â€

As the smoke begins to spread and disperse from within the stadium, the side split off for their pre-match stretches and knock about. Okkas is walking around along with Flip, seemingly geeing each and every one of the players up.

“Well Andy, from here it looks like Matt_no_7 has taken place in the centre circle with the officials and the Barrow skipper Danny Fordeâ€, Richard Gough suggests.

“Yes, certainly does Richard. Interesting choice?â€

“Well the kid was very bright in that Play-Off game at the back end of last season and he has something about him. I think he can influence this side if he performs well enough.â€

“Well ladies and gentlemen, here it is, the sides are now lined up and ready for the whistle. Just to confirm for you, the FM Ess bench is made up of keeper Terk, Simonh1979, Bazza, OMDave and Sam015. Possibly the 5 lads most unlucky not to get the nod today.â€

FIRST HALF from Fortress FMS

“And Barrow get us underway in this, perhaps the biggest game in the division this afternoon due to the importance of a new club trying to make a living.â€

2 minutes;

“Now WLKRAS, takes the ball from Ridley with ease and now has time…looks up….great ball direct down the right flank for Dire Wrangle to chase. As we mentioned WLKRAS perhaps the most surprise inclusion this afternoon getting his head down well nice and early…

Wrangle, strays inside from his marker…looks up but options appear limited…†Payne enthuses.

“They look motionless†interrupts Gough. “If they want this crowd to stay behind them they need to look more hungry†says Gough, adding his experience to this seasonal opener.

Payne continues, “Well he (Wrangle) cuts inside now still searching for a gap…Peacemaker comes short but Wrangle opts to beat his man…leg out and that’s a foul by Forde….We are midway inside the Barrow half and the early pressure, albeit gradual, is from the home side.â€

The crowd suddenly chirp up somewhat with men flowing forward from the back. MaccaSAFC and WLKRAS both join men in the box whilst Spav and Matt_no_7 cover at the back.

â€The ball is tossed into the box now from Flipsix3 towards peacemaker at the back post…but Maxfield climbs well and he puts it behind for a corner.â€

With that the crowd really begin to get excited and fans behind the goal that FM Ess are attacking rise to their feet.

“In comes the cross from Brian Of Nazarath…it’s deep…cleared as far as Supa Playa…he strikes….AND oh my how close was that effort Richard?â€

“Indeed Andy, that looked mighty close. It must have been drilled with some pace and was just inches wide of Knight’s goal.â€

11 minutes;

“Well except for the chance in the first few moments, the game is a slow starter but perhaps FM Ess can build on this early possession now. WLKRAS….good solid ball into Matt_no_7…back to WLKRAS who is now out on that right flank…space and time, he crosses towards the front post….Here is Supa Playa now…HE’S FOUND SPACE JUST IN THE BOX, SHOOTS…Knight reacts well though…But yes, YES IT IS MATT_NO_7 WHO REACTS QUICKEST AND POKES IT IN AT THE FAR POST TO MAKE IT 1-0â€

As the ball crosses the line, many players go towards the skipper to swarm him. It is a terrific move capped off well by a man who played an integeral part in the early parts of the attack.

Despite this, both Okkas and Peacemaker notice the importance of WLKRAS’ part and both trot over to the opposite side to congratulate the right back on a perfect cross so early in the game.

17 minutes;

“Well Barrow continue to play the ball about…FM Ess are prepared to let them does so too. Only 5 minutes since the goal but you wouldn’t know who scored it would you Richard?â€

“Certainly not. For me, FM Ess needed to pressure after grabbing such a good goal early on but they’ve sat back somewhat†concludes Gough.

“Well we can see down on the touchline, both Blissett and Wilkins motioning too some of the midfield to press the game more but the XI on the field seem intent with holding their ground.â€

Despite this deep approach, moment later FM Ess break up an attack when Tarrant attempts a solo effort and when FM Ess do regain the ball, the pace and vibrancy with which they attack their southern counterparts is nothing short of breath-taking.

â€Brian Of Nazarath is causing all sorts of problems for Edmondson and here he goes again…he beats his man….swings a fine cross deep towards Okkas…he nods it into the path of Dire Wrangle…AND….noooo he can’t find the net.â€

“Well to give him credit, he picked up a lovely spot but the execution was just not quite there†Richard Gough notes.

36 minutes;

â€Tarrant, into the feet of Flitcroft….now Flitcroft switches play and finds Simon Wiles…can he do anything from here? Spave dives in and suddenly it opens up for Wiles, great cross…great header…GREAT save from Binny.

The Israeili keeper was really tested there after, in fairness, Barrow broke though the FM Ess defence to easily but when you need a top save to keep your side ahead, Binny produces to concede a mere corner.â€

42 minutes;

As an interesting opening half comes to a conclusion, Barrow continue to press and FM Ess, as time drains, find themselves camped deeper and deeper. Okkas executes a neat turn and shot on 42 minutes only for Knight to parry wide whilst MaccaSAFC shows that he can cause problems from the air when on 44 minutes, he heads against the up right from a fine Brian Of Nazarath corner.

Just before the break however, Binny is tested once again when Michael Gough brings the ball from deep and eventually has a pop after there is a distinct lack of closing down from anyone in the forum blue shirts.

On that note, the sides go in at Half time with the score FM Ess 1: Barrow 0.

So far so good

After a tight first half, Blissett and Wilkins have a word with Okkas as the rest of the squad jog into the changing room at the break. All three minds are thinking similar things whilst they don’t feel changes are yet needed.

Dire Wrangle has a slight knock on his calf which Adrian Moore takes a look at as Okkas and his back room staff walks in.

The changing room is once again clad in forum blue walls and navy benches. All players have their own segregated area in which to prepare themselves whilst there is a physio table and a lucozade drinks cabinet in the corner of the room. Considering the division, it is top notch facilities that look as plush as it is modern.

The room comes complete with Internet linked television which, if requested by the gaffer, can screen all the latest scores from the division whilst there is a kit man on hand to replace any boots or kit that may need replacing at the break.

“Not a bad half at all boys†Okkas declares. “grab a quick drink, then sit down and give me a few minutes.â€

The lads are mingling in the changing room and an impatient Okkas gives them a few more seconds as Wilkins disappears to check other scores around the country.

“Supa Playa, SIT DOWN!! C’MON BOYS WE DON’T GET LONG ENOUGH FOR YOU LOT TO PR@T ABOUT!!!â€

With that said, the room quietens down and the players get seated as Dire lays face down on the physio table.

“Not a bad start but we’ve let them off far too lightly with that in mind. We slowed things down far too much after the goal when they would’ve been vulnerable†states Okkas as faces seem to nod gently in agreement.

“WLKRAS – Dire Wrangle…good work so far down that right flank. Maxfield can’t cope with you boys. Lets keep things on the deck though cos he will out jump all of us. Binny, great stuff pal. Keep it up. Defence, not real issues from myself. Luther, anything?â€

“yeah not bad, just don’t rush to get rid all the time. WLKRAS! You’ve used Dire well but often you have options inside too. But that is if I am being harsh. Same with you Spav. Plus, stay on your feet. Ridley has pace to get at you if you dive in so touch tight and you’ll do fine.†Luther looks towards Okkas to continue.

“Midfield is looking good. Flipsix and Peacemaker, keep it simple and just keep one eye on Flitcroft as he occasionally finds himself in behind you both. Ray noticed more in the last 20 minutes of the half.â€

As the boys look around at each other in the room, it is clear some are desperate to make points also but it is only Matt_no_7 who chooses to do so.

“Gaffer?†Matt looks for assurance he’s ok to speak.

“Yes Matt!â€

“If one of them two sits a bit deeper with him, there is nothing to stop me dropping into a holding role when we lose possession. It’s just they can alter things a great deal especially when that Tarrant drops off the ball.â€

“Point taken Matt but I think we’ll invite even more pressure in that sort situation. You are needed as an outlet when these lads get the ball. Just keep it as it is for now Ok?†Okkas firmly points out.

“Also†interrupts Blissett, “You and SupaPlaya need to focus more on the movement inside from their wide men and keep one eye on Forde too. He’s drifting forward the more the game wears on.â€

“Finally, SupaPlaya…run at them more when you get possession. Other than that, Dire, Brian Of Nazarath, keep it up cos when you guys have the ball they cannot cope with the movement and the speed we attack with.â€

Second half, live from The Story Makers home in Fort William;

“Welcome back to the 2nd half here at Fort William and FM Ess have just kicked off the second half as they lead 1-0 at the break. Richard, any thoughts on how the sides are lining up for the second half?â€

“Slightly surprised that no changes have been made to Barrow’s midfield. For me they just didn’t get into enough probing areas but who knows. Maybe Turnbull has altered something we are unaware of.â€

“Perhaps†says Payne. “Well as we speak, Barrow have forced the issue somewhat and grabbed themselves the first corner of the half.â€

46 minutes;

â€The corner comes in as far as MaccaSAFC who head clear…Okkas gains possession some 10 yards inside his own half…here is Nazarath of the overlap…Nazarath gains possession. Beats Edmondson but he can beat Forde…Forde now drops the ball back into the FM Ess half…Tarrant has dropped off his marker and finds himself on the left flank….he finds Ridley….Ridley looks up and drops a ball deep towards the far post…Wiles climbs above Peacemaker and Spav…great header across the face of goal and YES its there 1-1 just like thatâ€

“FM Ess were naïve there†explains a concerned Gough. “Several players were strolling out when they countered and when things broke down, Wiles made the most of this and placed a great header past Binny.â€

53 minutes;

Following the equaliser, FM Ess once again moves into deep defence mode. Matt_no_7, despite being told to stick ahead of the holding roles, finds himself tracking runs from Flitcroft.

On 55 minutes, Tarrant again causes problems when he drops off Macca before playing an intricate one-two with Wiles. But when Tarrant finds himself on the penalty spot and Binny bearing down, he cannot outthink the keeper quick enough and Binny foils another chance for Barrow.

64 minutes;

“Well the game certainly needs something from somewhere†suggests Gough AS HE SEE’S Kewley and Mansergh warming up for the visitors. From the home dug out, it appears that Okkas has signalled for both Simonh1979 and Bazza to warm-up meanwhile.

â€Now here is Supa Playa, he beats Smith…lovely slotted pass to Okkas…shoots…and it’s a good effort but it lacked conviction somewhat and that’ll be a goalkick.†describes Payne.

As Okkas trudges back to get into position from Knight’s goal kick however, the home support of near to 2,500 up the anti somewhat and get behind the Story Makers.

â€Knight plays short to Michael Gough….Okkas pressures….and he wins the ball…he’s on the edge of the box with Smith coming across…can he….Yessss 2-1 FM Ess†shouts Payne as Okkas narrowly reaches his own first touch before the Barrow defender. â€He has guided it home from the best part of 18-yards.â€

“he looks hurt though†Gough points out as Okkas takes a real clattering from Smith after the initial shot was put in.

Substitutions;

For FM Ess, Okkas and Dire Wrangle leave the field of play on 65 minutes to be replaced by Simonh1979 and Bazza.

For the away side, Barrow replace Neil Tarrant with Mansergh on 67.

68 minutes;

“Supa Playa is starting to look more of a threat as this game continues…he beats Wiles…beats Forde….great inspirational stuff from Supa Playa…he’s inside the Barrow half…he square to Bazza…and YESSS it is there...somehow, within the space of a few minutes, FM Ess looked to have killed the game off.â€

“He’s only been on the pitch for two minutes†adds Gough.

70 minutes;

“Well you’d expect they just need to keep things tight now wouldn’t you?â€

“Of course Andy. They have the ability to see the town tick down now if todays show is anything to go by.â€

Substitutions;

FM Ess make their final change with OMDave coming on for Matt_no_7 after 76 minutes.

Barrow bring on both Rushton and Kewley in a bid to get back into the game in place of Wiles and Smith on 77.

80 minutes;

“Simonh has done well, the sub certainly looks intent on making a good impression…he beats Edmondson, curls a fine ball into the near post…Bazza….and it’s FOUR FOR FM ESS. What an impact the pair have made since their introduction.â€

It is now happy times as a game which FM Ess were predicted to struggle in, is turning into a glorious occasion. The side appear to be very free-flowing and energetic whilst the visitors look shocked, devoured and unable to respond. Despite this, the occasion was far from the one sided affair it would later appear in the press.

86 minutes;

â€Well there is certainly no hold-up here, Bazza takes the ball from deep….good forward run from Brian Of Nazarath…Nazarath takes control…beats one…beats two…fires a fine shot at goal…AND….oh so close from the winger…but Bazza on the follow up and it is FIVE for the newboys. Bazza was sharp when Nazarath’s effort bounced off the post and Bazza has hit a hat-trick in a little under 20 minutes.â€

90 minutes;

â€Binny takes the corner well and straight away distributes to WLKRAS….he beats his man before finding OMDave.â€

“This is fantastic football†remarks Gough.

â€OMDave slides a ball into the path of Bazza…he dummies it for Simonh1989…it runs nicely…he squares it and here it is…SURELY….GOALLLLLL and it is 6-1 to FM Ess with Bazza bagging his fourth in a 23 minute goal blitz.â€

In the stand, some fans are bewildered as to what they have just witness. A tight, scrappy affair turned on a moment and follow Okkas’ 65 minute goal which seemingly gave FM Ess the edge in a game that could’ve swung either way, super sub Bazza has come on to destroy and hopes of a Barrow comeback…

Luke Williamson (Okkas); FM Ess boss

“I am delighted with the lads, especially as we were written off before kick-off as no hopers. The lads battled well and Bazza showed amazing predatory instincts when he was given the chance.â€

Luther Blissett; FM Ess Assistant

“It was a real test today and 6-1 is perhaps not a fair reflection on the way the game went. But we took more chances and football is all about chances.â€

Danny Forde Barrow Captain.

“The gaffer has gave us a right rollicking after that. We shot ourselves in the foot on several occasions and as you all well know, you can’t play with shot feet.â€

Bazza; 4-goal-hero

“I am not quite how and why it happened the way it did, but it was great to show the boss what I can do and I am delighted for the lads.â€

Andy Payne; BBC Radio Scotland.

“It was much closer than the scoreline suggests. I can’t see FM Ess doing that too many sides this season but I am sure they’ll do well if they can fight in a similar fashion week in-week out.â€

Authors Notes

Now here is where we need feedback...?

Whilst 3-5 pages of word documents make a good in depth report on here, it will also make the story much more drawn out.

Alternatively, I can do more newspapers style reports on games and more in-depth on important games etc. Giving a varied style.

It's your lots story in that sense so give me feedback on what styles you like and so forth. I'm happy either way but I sometimes read my own stuff thinking I've dragged it out and put some pointless bits in.

All comments gratefully received guys!

So far it's been an entertaining read.

I guess it would be best to do the detailed report style on games that matter a lot. Defining moments in the season and such. That way you can mix and match the various styles to great effect.

I just feel sorry that I couldn't make it into the team in time for the start of the story icon_wink.gif

I don't think you can add players into the game after it's been started. You could ask the lads in the Editor's Hideout though.

From experience, the MCFM 2006 editor can not do it. But there's a new one around that people are raving about, but I can't use it for some reason and have no knowledge of it

You can only test them though, if only to find out.

Okkas - great first match, well done. icon14.gif

As regards editors, I don't think you can add new players, but only edit things that already exist. My experience with saved game editors indicates that eventually (it could take several seasons) something will get corrupted if you keep editing.

As regards match reports, I think the mixture sounds the best option. Minute-by-minute for the major games and simpler overviews (including descriptions of the main highlights) for all other games.

CEEFAX – 13-08-05

STORY MAKERS PERFORM DOMINANT WIN;

The Conference North newest outfit, FM Ess 2006, ran out the big winners on match day one when they put Barrow FC to the sword with a six goal blitz. Bazza, a second half substitute hit 4 goals in a 25 minute onslaught after the Story Makers took the lead mid way through the second half through player boss Okkas.

It all came after a very tight first hour to the game in which Matt_no_7 gave the home side a deserved lead after Supa Playa found himself in a dangerous position inside the box. Following this, FM Ess has opportunities to further their lead but found themselves playing deeper with both Danny Forde and Neil Tarrant probing chances for the visitors.

After the break, it took under 90 seconds for the equaliser to come, but in hindsight, it was perhaps more deserved than the home side’s opener and the only surprise is the visitors couldn’t find a second goal before the home side put the game to bed. Binny was in fine form for FM Ess also, making several great stops during the game whilst Brian Of Nazarath was the real star of the show, pulling the strings and ding the hard work as he pushed his side on for a fantastic 2nd half performance.

Good Day At The Office…

As Okkas and Peacemaker7 sit down in their front room for a evening cuppa, the DVD is inserted into the machine by Blissett and the trio make themselves comfortable for some easy viewing.

It’s an obvious comment to make, but as Blissett points out;

“It’s not every week we’ll enjoy watching back a performance when we net 6 goals.â€

The laughs are ones of naivety however with none of the colleagues quite sure what to expect from the forthcoming season. Despite the success of the afternoons game, the one concern Okkas did have was the lack of organisation in the tactics during the first 45.

“We looked stretched at times in fairness†he mentions.

“A better team would have punished us†Peacemaker suggests with a concerned smile.

At that point, a fax comes through to the laptop describing the rage about Bazza’s impact in the national press. Meanwhile, it also confirms that Steve Burr, boss at Northwich Victoria, has taunted Hinckley manager Dean Thomas after the Leicestershire club lost their season’s opener. Burr commented;

“We always knew we’d win. We were far superior on the day and for me, that was never a doubt.â€

Physio Report

14th August 2005

Whilst a light training session following the game goes well, Adrian Moore, head of the physio department tells of how OMDave will probably miss the forthcoming three weeks after straining himself lifting weights. It is a blow to a versatile defensive player who made an impact after his introduction verse Barrow but Okkas ensures him that he did impress and will not become a forgotten man in his time away.

“I still want you in as normal. That way we can track your progress and keep a close eye on things son.â€

“Yeah sure†replies OMDave.

Elsewhere in Conference News, former Leicester City man Carl Noble secures a deal with Worksop whilst Anthony Kielthy signs for Hednesford. Kielthy, a hard working centre half, signs a two year dela with Hednesford.

FORM CONTINUES IN FORTRESS UP NORTH!

The Oban Times – 17-08-05

FM Ess v Worcester from Fortress FMS

The Story Makers certainly continued to live up to their nickname last night in what was their second League game of the new season in the Conference North. With Okkas making several changes to his opening day line-up, he brought in SDaveS in place of Peacemaker, Simonh1979 in place of Dire Wrangle and Bazza in place of Okkas himself. Despite this, the back bone was pretty similar with the same 3-2-2-2-1 formation adopted. Binny was given the captaincy after a team vote saw the shot-stopper get the nod meanwhile. Whilst Okkas made no note of mentioning the process to the press, he appears to think that the players would make a better choice on a weekly basis until he can pick a captain worthy to lead the whole squad for the whole season.

Andy Preece brought his Worcester side to Fort William meanwhile in good spirit after a goal from himself set up his boys to a 4-0 win over Redditch on the opening day. Despite this, Clegg, who netted a brace on the opening day, was dropped down to the bench and Worcester came with a solid looking 4-4-2.

The game started at a pretty frantic pace with chances at either end in the first 5 minutes. Preece tested Binny within moments of the kick-off before a fine solo run from Brian Of Nazarath saw the left winger drill an effort inches wide of the goalkeepers far post.

However, it didn’t take long for controversy to appear when a direct ball from WLKRAS found Simonh1979 cutting inside his marker, and last man, Les Hines. The Worcester man made a rash challenge however and when Simonh1979 struggled to stay on his feet, referee Ray Gould was left with no decision but to send the visiting defender walking.

It was a real blow to Preece’s side in a game that, at the start, they’d have fully expected to win. But within minutes of his sides reduction in numbers, the one way traffic began to mount with both Supa Playa and Flipsix3 testing keeper McDonnell from close range.

On 9 minutes, it was Nazarath who opened up the limited resources of Worcester when he beat Smallman through the centre of the park before drilling an effort goal wards. Although saved however, McDonnell’s efforts were of little help as the ball ricocheted into the path of Bazza who slid the ball into the bottom corner of the visitors net to make it 1-0.

Once again, it appeared fortune had swung the way of FM Ess as it had done on several occasions on Saturday but now it lifted the fairly large following who’d turned out for the Tuesday night thriller.

Moments after the opener, MaccaSAFC found himself roaming forward only to be felled inside the Worcester penalty box and before the referee even eye-balled centre-back Smallman, the youngster began walking towards the tunnel.

After the game, Preece blasted a referee who he claimed;

“clearly wanted to make a name for himself.â€

So with just 14 minutes on the clock, 11 men FM Ess had near to a full game to punish 9 man Worcester. And punish they would within the coming ten minutes. Despite the 2nd sending off however, Bazza failed to convert from the spot when he drove the spot kick into the chest of McDonnell but little would he worry as when, on 19 minutes, Matt_no_7 slid a fine pass through to Bazza who dually rounded the keeper to net his 6th of the season and to make it 2-0.

Despite the advantage, FM Ess perhaps didn’t force the issue as much as they could meanwhile. Supa Playa once again found himself in probing positions and was bewildered when on 24 minutes, he smashed an effort against both posts only to see his effort cleared for a corner.

Preece gave the visitors rare glimpses of hope when FM Ess pushed too far forward meanwhile. The veteran striker was twice denied by an in-form Binny however who certainly earnt his wages when on 29 minutes, he made an incredible double save from Preece’s more lively striker partner Kelly and midfielder Bates.

It was a save that was to prove all the more vital too when his long throw set-up an attack for Nazarath to expose. His darting run saw him see off tackles from Warner and Smith before he curved a fine pass into the run of Bazza who, with no break in stride, fired a low effort into the bottom corner of the Worcester net and with it, the 3 points were secured.

At half time, Okkas saw opportunities to make alterations with Peacemaker7 coming on for Nazarath who received a much deserved rest whilst Spav made way for Dixie Flatline to make his debut at left back.

As the sides re-started for the second half, the tempo of play was heightened somewhat. After the game, Blissett commented that;

“We didn’t make them work enough in the first half. Considering they had 9 men, they should have done much more running that we made them do.â€

And run they would in a second half. Flipsix3 and SDaveS looked composed and experienced beyond their years from the holding roles. The pair gave time and space for both WLKRAS and Flatline to move forward and thus stretching the visitors to both flanks.

On 55 minutes, WLKRAS again found himself causing problems for the visiting defence and when he played a intricate one-two with Matt_no_7 around the edge of the area, he smashed a first time effort against the wood work only to see the ball rebound into the back of the net.

On reflection, Okkas claimed;

“In our books, it is WLKRAS’ goal. But the record will show it as an OG unfortunately.â€

At this point, Bazza, who’d appeared to have taken a knock in the move was replaced by Okkas himself and it was once again a substitution which would bring chances. Compared to the veteran Bazza who uses strength and a wise head to create chances, Okkas gave FM Ess more pace and from then on, he used this to his advantage, time and time again getting behind the Worcester back line.

Binny, on 60 minutes made a superb one handed save from Preece, who responded by replacing himself with Clegg in attack but the game was well beyond any sort of revival as FM Ess continued to pressurise Worchester’s goal.

On 62 minutes, Matt_no_7 was next to enjoy space and time when he found Okkas with a perfect 40-yard pass from deep. The striker made a darting run at the last man of Worcester before being forced wide by two defenders catching up play. But as he delayed and held play up, Matt_no_7 surged forward with a energetic burst of pace before receiving a great cross to volley home from the edge of the box with his right foot.

5-0 was becoming somewhat of a rewarding scoreline considering the circumstances although after the game, Preece commended his defence who he declared had “done a great job in difficult situations.â€

As the game wound down in the closing stages, FM Ess played some neat keep ball and teased the Worcester 9 and when Dixie Flatline motioned forward on 81 minutes, he found acres of space before firing an outstanding strike towards the goal of McDonnell from some part of 40-yards.

But the left back was denied by an outstretched hand of McDonnell and the strike was rewarded with a mere corner. As the game wound down, WLKRAS and MaccaSAFC began to roam forward with SDaveS covering the defenders. One 89 minutes, MaccaSAFC beat two men around the edge of the box before switching a ball across the face of the area for the fine tuned run of Okkas who beat a weak offside trap. Okkas turned inwards before delicately chipping the ball over the oncoming keeper to complete a much rewarded rout with number 6.

Following the game, it was commented in the press room that despite scoring 12 goals in 2 games, FM Ess were fortunate to find themselves in the position they were. Okkas calmly responded to his critic explaining;

“A goals a goal.â€

BBC Sport Interview – http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/sport

18th August 2005

So Okkas, great start to the new season. You must be overjoyed?

Indeed. Even we are slightly surprised at how things have begun. But that is not to say we had not had faith in our own ability going into the games.

But you could have never expected such a easy start to life in the Conference North?

Well that is just it, I don’t see it as an easy start. The opener for example verse Barrow. It was tough. They forced the issue for considerable periods of play and it wasn’t until 25 minutes to go that we finally broke them down. And when you look at Tuesday’s game, again it was not as easy as one would imagine when you consider we have a two man advantage for 80 minutes during the game.

So how far can you foresee your fortune taking you this season?

Well who knows. I have full faith in the squad as I said. But what we don’t need is over confidence and arrogance. We are not about that. We are going to work hard, keep plugging away and when things go our way, try and reciprocate the feelings. When things go wrong, we need to channel thoughts elsewhere. If you lose a game, it is a matter of knowing what went wrong and what exactly it is for us to block that feeling out.

Sounds like you have it all planned. So you must be overjoyed with the form of Bazza?

Of course, but I’ve a whole squad that I am overjoyed with at the minute. Bazza is one part of a very in-form side. He has been great though because he didn’t ever hint at this level of performance prior to the season. We knew he’d be good but maybe not as hot as he’s begun. But the season is a long one so we won’t get to carried away. I’ll continue to rotate. After all, we have Daz The Imp, Super Walli and myself or able to lead the line too.

But most important is the way the whole side in each game has just worked as a unit and worked for each other. It is the same in training. They all pull in the same direction and for me, this is the most pleasing thing.

You mention there about your other attacking options. Are you slightly disappointed with your own form?

Far from it. So far, so good. I’ve enjoyed being in the side and so far, I have not over-used myself. I am glad to get two goals. Who wouldn’t be? It is every strikers nightmare in reality not to get a goal early in the season. But Bazza has took the plaudits so far and that’s more than fine with me. As long as one of us is banging in goals, I’ll be happy. And I am positive that both Super Walli and Daz will, at some point, be the lads on fire grabbing the headlines.

I have seen enough of these lads to know how good they are. It is also promising to know we have midfielders that are able to grab goals when we need them.

So you are more than happy you say? Any plans to add depth to the squad?

Perhaps…but more than likely no. We have a good number of squad members. More than others in our division actually. So I think for the purpose of keeping players happy, we’d be foolish to add for the sakes of adding. I’ve seen Lancaster, Gainsborough, Worksop and Barrow all make more signings this week and for me, I just feel at times, managers sign players because they worry about injuries and suspensions mounting.

So you are saying that you feel managers make panic buys?

For sure, but I am not saying all these managers have panicked. Just some do it without thinking.

And rumours surrounding Macca and Binny?

What rumours are those? *Okkas asks with a wry smile notes the editor*

The rumours surrounding both Coventry City and Notts County enquiring about the pair?

Ah well those rumours are true and I can quash any rumours about them leaving. Notts asked how much we’d want for the pair. But we told them they were not available for any price at present. Coventry on the other hand offered us a price for MaccaSAFC as did Bolton but we rejected both those offers.

Well it certainly proves you’ve some top names with you?

For sure. And I expect many more clubs to come in with offers for several of my players but I will do all I can to keep the lads here. I value all of my squad as major squad members and I am not about to break up a set of players who’ve only been together a few months.

But surely it would only be a matter of time until some players want for bigger and…

Not at all. Let me interrupt you there…We have players here who are 100% committed to the cause. Players here want to make the professional divisions. They want to do it off their own back. Not by earning transfers but by making our way up the leagues.

I’ve spoke with many of the lads on various occasions and they all seem focused on the same thing. What is vital is they all value themselves in this group too. There are one or two lads who, maybe, wont get a game for a few weeks, maybe even a month or two down the line. But they are all going to be needed as the season moves on. We will get injuries. We’ll get suspensions for sure. But that is why we’ve prepared ourselves with a squad that will, without any additions, be able to cope for the whole campaign.

For sure. Well thanks a lot for your time Okkas. And best of luck for the rest of the season.

Thanks very much. We’ll make our own luck hopefully. *Williamson smiles and greets our interviewer notes the editor as he walks over towards the training pitch where a set-piece drill is taking place.*
