Nicknamed The Swans, the club played from its formation in 1912 (as Swansea Town - the club was renamed Swansea City in 1970) until 2005 at the Vetch Field (1912-2005) in Swansea city centre. In the summer of 2005 Swansea City moved to the Liberty Stadium, a 20,532 all seater ground,

The early 1980s were Swansea's most successful years, under the guidance of then player-Manager, Cardiff born John Toshack, the Swans gained promotion to the old First Division in 1981, won 3 consecutive Welsh Cups and subsequently appeared in the UEFA Cup Winners Cup. In their first season in the top flight they beat the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool at Anfield, finally finishing in a highest ever position of sixth, despite topping the table for large parts of the season.

In recent years the club has brought itself up from the decline of the 80's and 90's and has re-established itself as a strong force in the Football League. They were promoted to League One in 2004-2005 and the League Championship (as Champions) in 2007-2008. 2008-09 will be Swansea's first season at this level since 1983-84.

Roberto Martinez, A former player and is more famously known as his role in Central midfield, took over as manager in February 2007, and led the Swans to promotion in his first full season in charge.

Aims

Swansea are regarded as playing some of the most attractive football outside of the Premier league under Martinez and are comfortably in mid-table in their first season in the championship. Ferrie Bodde is the key player and if you can keep him fit you should be able to exceed expectations, Rangel, Pratley and Scotland are also good players.

The media predict a spot just above the relegation zone to finish, in 20th position. The premiership by the third season is a very realistic target. No debt and a transfer budget of £1m at the start for a mid-table finish, which is decent, although it wont be possible to make any massive signings.

Good luck

Thanks. Taking my time over pre-season, i've got no experience with players for the Championship as this is only my second save on FM09.

Looking for a first choice LB and a GK for backup. I've brought in D.Gibson on loan from Man Utd to strengthen the CM department. Also could do with a creative AM.

In my first season , im currently 4th with 4 games to go. First of all i signed Ched Evans on loan in August before signing him permently in January(amazing signing) and an Ecudorian right winger which i have forgot the name of! But is still a very good signing. I also loaned Darron Gibson and Merida.

First of all I quickly found out that Ched Evans is indeed the main reason i am fourth! The second is that Bodde has been my worst player of the season which is a huge disappointment , just my luck! While Darren Pratley is my best midfielder and De Vries is a money grabbing git!

Is Rangel not good enough for you at RB? I've found him consistent and one of my better players. Pratley's done well for me too. Depends how much you can get for him i guess.

My games been going a bit slow so far, havet really had time to get into it.

i got scott brown on loan as backup keeper - missed out on enyeama(he went to someone for 50k).

EDIT* Celso Borges is good but abit expensive. Also, i'd suggest getting arsenal as ur parent club.

Cheers hope they find me Arsenal as the parent club then i normally get chelsea or liverpool offered to me or man city

If you can get him , young right winger Eduardo Salvio from Racing club in argentina, he is relatively cheap as well, 200k i think, and become quality after 2 seasons, in the premiership so should be good in the championsip from the off.

Also Mascio, young italian centre mid, havent signed him myself but looks a good prospect. Rhys Murphy from Arsenal also looks a prospect, is a wonderkid on my Arsenal game

Restarted my save. Going really well this time.. i've managed to get Arsenal as my parent club.

So far i've signed -

Perrier Doumbe from Celtic (D/WB RL) 80k

Eduardo Salvio from Lanus (AMR/FC) 300k

Gareth Roberts from Doncaster (D/WB L) 120k

N'Diaye from Marseille (DC) 150k

Binya from Benfica (DM/CM) 55k

Rodrigo Possebon on Loan.

Also got Appiah on trial for a month but can't afford his demands yet. Still hopeing to get Ched Evans and Daniel Sturridge on loan from Man City, they're not willing to loan them yet though.

Sold Pratley, Tudur-Jones and Alan Tate for a combined £925k.

Still need a back-up GK. Any suggestions?

For anyone that wants to sign Appiah, i've found a soloution.

If you can raise your transfer budget a bit, then convert this into wages by adjusting your budget.. i managed to get the board to allow me £8.5k p/w wages for him. Which was enough to get him to sign on a 4 year contract with a £100k signing on fee.

Im in the Prem , and theyve gave me £13m transfer pot! I was expecting £5m tops, finding it hard to attract players though , so far bought Ustari GK (£3m) , Cousin ST (£0) , Perico CM (250k) , could have signed Di Maria and Fabio Aurelio also if i could give more wages.

Right.. im into September now season one. Managed to get Ched Evans and Daniel Sturridge from Man City on loan for the season right at the end of August :D .. along with Appiah and N'Diaye i think i've got a team capable of promotion this year!

Im in the second season, Ive just signed Opare on a free transfer! His stats dont look too god though ,except for work rate and strenght and another which are all 20 , cant remember as its on a different computer. Tried to get Sturridge but he wanted something like £18,000 in wages , and my strikeforce is alright for the moment. Im just looking for a Left Back , a Left Winger , a Centre Back and maybe a right back is i got some cash and if Opare or Rangel dont change my mind soon. And btw Scott , Evans on his own will get you promotion , atleast he did in my save

I'm in my first season with the Swans and it's going rather well.

Currently lying 9th after 36 games just 2 points from a play-off spot.

In the first transfer window I only bought Matt Jarvis(£600) and he seems to do a good job, contributing with 1 goal and 8 assists.

During the January window I got rid of Bodde for £4 mil. and bought Borges(AMC)(£875), Zuculini(DMC)(£575) and Buzsaky(AMRLC)(£1.2).

Next transfer window I'll definately strengthen my defence and get at least two new strikers - Scotland is really the only one who can score.

Right.. i finished my first season yesterday. Went incredibly well. Finished second behind Reading, which was thanks to Appiah, Ched Evans and Sturridge. They barely missed a game and were incredible!

Said i'd avoid relegation to the board which pocketed me £18m in funds to prepare for the premiership. So far my team is as follows, suggestions on improvements would be great although i only have £3m left.

GK Renan (£6.5m, My record transfer - wanted a top GK and he was the only one interested for a reasonable price)

RB Angel Rangel (Mr Consistent, awesome last season so deserves his chance)

LB Giovanni Van Bronckhorst (£325k, getting on but will provide the necessary experience at the back, still looks great)

CB Michael Turner (£1.2m, Hull got relegated but he looks a solid CB, should be money well spent)

CB Mark Beevers (£525k, Young CB but looks very promising, hoping he can cut it at the top level)

CM Stephen Appiah (Best player at the club, rejected a £6m offer from Everton - he's that good)

CM Morgan Schneiderlin (£1.2m, again young but looks premiership quality. Had a good season at Southampton)

AMR Mauro Zarate (£4.1m, couldn't agree terms after his loan at Lazio so i stepped in.. Free-kick specialist and a bit of south american quality in the team)

AML Eduardo Salvio (Retrained to the left, did ok last year but expecting great things for him this year)

ST Amir Zaki (£1.2m, Had some experience of the premiership and did well. Adds a bit of presence upfront)

ST Ched Evans (Loan Again, What can i say, last year he was a machine hitting 32 goals)

I restarted my save again, got a much better knowledge of players now and started with less leagues loaded on a large database as my last save was a bit slow.

So far i've got Appiah, Lequi and Yildirim all on frees. Mascio for 50k. Also got Evans and Sturridge again on loan.
