Does the match engine automatically penalise a centre-back played at wing-back (or anyone else out of position) or does it look at the merits of what your tactic is trying to achieve... For example if I play Carragher at wing-back but ask him to do a centre-backs job, will he do ok, or will he be penalised just because he is out of position and has a horrid red dot next to his shirt on the tactics screen? The same question goes for sweepers as well, in my QPR game the sweepers I can bring to the club are.... erm... defective but I've found a centre-back with all the right stats so I'm buying him and I am going to train him up, but in the mean time will he be automatically penalised or will the match engine 'play him on his merits'?
