It was a founding member of the League of Ireland in 1921, and it is the only club to have been ever-present in the top division of the league. The club won its first league title in 1924. In 1928 the club won its 1st league and cup double. The club proceed to be one of the major forces in the early years of the league, going on to win another three league titles and another FAI Cup in the next eight seasons. After this success the club began to struggle, often finishing at the foot of the league and went 34 years without winning a trophy, largely as a result of its refusal to embrace the professional era. In 1969 however the club ended its amateur status.The club then went on to win two league titles, two FAI Cups and two league cups in the 1970s, more trophies than any other club that decade. In 1970 the club entered European competition for the first time where it was beaten in the first qualifying round of the European Cup Winners' Cup. The club went through another barren spell in the 80s and 90s and it was not until 2001 that it regained the league title, also winning the FAI Cup that season to complete its second double. After adding another league title in 2003, Bohemians triumphed once again in 2008 winning a double in record breaking fashion. Important Players: Squad Analysis: Goalkeepers: Brian Murphy is the best goalkeeper in the league and you'd be hard pressed to improve on him. Matt Gregg is a capable backup. This area won't need improving unless you decide to sell Murphy. Right Backs: Brian Shelley is a quality right back and should make this area his own. Owen Heary can also play here but he may be better off in the centre in order to accommodate Shelley. Mark Rossiter's versatility ensures you are well served in this area. Left Backs: There's two promising young players competing for the left back slot at Bohs. Conor Powell is the leading contender at left back although he's not fantastic but will improve. Sean Byrne is a player with lots of potential and either will provide a strong starter in the future. In the meantime, a good experianced player may be sought for here. Centre Backs: Bohs are relatively light in this area. Owen Heary should probably slot in alongside either Ken Oman or Jason McGuinness. There's a few decent young players on the books here in the form of Brian McCarthy and Daniel Ennis but neither is really good enough to start in the 1st couple of seasons. Defensive Midfielders: Glenn Cronin is the lone “natural” DM at the start of the game although Paul Keegan is a prime candidate to be retrained in this area. These two should give you sufficient depth at this position but upgrading is a viable option. Mark Nolan is also a good long term option for this position. Central & Attacking Midfielders: Bohs have one of the best young midfielders in the league in Gary Deegan and he is the outstanding choice to start. Joseph Ndo is another top player who has to be accommodated and he can play here or else on the right of midfield. Wingers: Killian Brennan is a set piece specialist and has good crossing ability and will probably be your 1st choice on the left. Anto Murphy and Joey Ndo should battle it out for the place on the right while young Graham Carey on loan from Celtic should provide a bit of depth. Strikers: The Irish international pairing of Glen Crowe and Jason Byrne up front are probably the best in the league. Both are already in the Top 10 All Time League of Ireland goalscorers and they still have a few years to add to it. Former Tottenham striker Neale Fenn provides another option in this position. This position is ageing and fairly light on numbers with young star Paddy Madden on loan at Shelbourne. Another backup striker would be useful here. Just thought I'd give anybody who wanted to give the LOI a try some sort of club guide to start off with. €20 for adults in Category A games, €15 for Category B games, Students/OAP - €10, Under 16s - €5.
