At the highest level, where players get the most development bonus, they in general don't improve much after 24 because they hit their PA too quickly. If you haven't already, after playing 10 to 20 seasons of top tier management, you'll start observing that. You can verify in-game with the development tab that most of your players won't develop much past 24. I am yet to see a Vardy - in FM20 I attempted to recreate a Vardy by stumbling on a player with 200 PA but only 120ish CA at age 23. He reached a certain CA by age 26, far from the 200 PA, and then stagnated for the rest of his career. I'm not saying which CA to not spoil Vardy's hidden attributes, but he wasn't at Vardy's level despite me doing everything possible to improve him. I'm not saying that development curves like Vardy's don't happen in the game, but they seem very rare and hard to recreate.

Isn't that realistic though? When discussing that particular kind of development curve, everyone talks about Vardy. He's the go-to example. And that's because there are very, very few players with the kind of development curve like he's had.

  2. So a couple of in game days later I was given a job interview with Motherwell, I ended up getting the job about a week later. I'm now near the end of August & most of the clubs who had vacancies have filled them.

I still think this needs looked at though, for clubs to go almost the entire summer with vacancies and then only start hiring managers in August feels like something that shouldn't be happening.

  3. I'm about to play the first league game in my 4th season, in the Scottish Championship, and there's a huge amount of clubs with managerial vacancies, most of whom haven't had a manager in months. 6 out of the 10 Scottish League 1 clubs are starting the season with no manager. 10 clubs in Scotland in total, almost 25% of playable clubs. 7 English Championship clubs, 5 Ligue 1 clubs, 4 La Liga, 3 EPL (and a partridge in a pear tree). I tried to apply for the Motherwell job, a division up, didn't get outright rejected but no interview came & they've still not signed anyone.

I read that this was an issue for non-playable leagues but every league I've mentioned is playable & now has me wondering if I'll ever be able to change clubs in this save, which wasn't intended to be a 1 club save.

I've uploaded the save file to the SI Cloud as "Manager Vacancies".

Bad analogy, my car gauge tells me exactly how many miles I've got left in the tank. Almost all do these days.

Also, Messi dribbling might be 20 but is that discernible from a player with 19? Especially when propensity to dribble is further governed by flair and ability to do so moderated by technique, balance and agility.

So without looking Messi or some other player might well be Dribbling 20, Agility 20, Flair 20, Balance 20 but could you as a player or a manager really tell them apart from a player with one 19 somewhere in there?! Especially when this is all just opinion, there's no way to actually "measure" dribbling. Yet we've got all that to help us pick the best player, but when it comes to whether that player is fit to start a match, despite all the technology that top clubs have to accurately monitor fitness and condition, we get LIGHT GREEN HEART. :D

Ive noticed the issue. You think the heart is the sole arbitrator in deciding whether a player is fit to start. There's more info there and it isn't even difficult to obtain.

Oh, and tour car gauge absolutely does not tell you exactly how many miles you have left. It gives you a number. That number is not reliable.

    Great thread!

85 is a bit low for a full green heart imo.  90 would probably be a more reasonable choice. Having numbers back would be even more reasonable. Real life managers rely on highly specialized staff, analysts and advanced tools like GPS performance trackers (during training sessions and matches) to assess players condition. I suspect numbers are much closer to reality than full hearts or thumbs up for condition/fitness levels.

Miles said, I think on the stream they had, that managers often said to him that they would love to be able to have exact percentages for how fit a player is.

Also, if there's seemingly virtually no difference between 85% fitness and 100% fitness then if I do say a whole season's matches of Team A on 100% vs Team B on 85%, then do the same in reverse, there should be no difference in league table.

I certainly have the time and maybe have the inclination to do just this, though it'd take a while as I have other stuff to be doing too, and from what I can tell from a quick Google there are real time editors available now? Does FMRTE allow you to see Condition, anyone know?

I could stop the game before a match, doesn't matter which one, and edit one team to be 100% Condition on all players and give them say 10 for each attribute, then make the other team 85% Condition and 10 for each attribute. Play that game 38 times, record the table. Then flip it around with Team A on 85% fitness and Team B on 100%.

By replaying that one same game 38 times (for each setup!)  we're taking morale out of the equation and other variables which would change over the season because each match would have an identical starting point. I guess that would show definitively whether there's a problem here or not. If both tables come out roughly the same, all's well and I guess we can just adapt to the hearts. If not and there's a big difference ......

Of course there's a difference. You're just unable to see it at that exact moment. But if you play someone on a green but 85% fitness you'll notice they'll go down a colour quickly.

Thing is as his screenshots show he was getting central play during beta and not after so that's indicative something has changed without knowing full story of tactics of opposition and all that but he's saying his tactics hadn't changed so something has quite what that is im not sure. I of course accept SI saying minimal changes to match engine.

On central play there's nothing to suggest those tactics wouldn't generate central play in the real world. Yeah some element of potential clog but dynamic movement from two forwards to drag central defenders out of position and from AMP to find pockets of space even with DMs to play forwards or midfield runners should absolutely generate central play. Can depend on quality of players but well simulated movement and decision making would and should absolutely generate central play it isn't really something which requires tactical forum discussion. If its not generating that then thats an fm issue really there

If its that much of an issue he should upload the games along with a bug report on the bug forum. Then SI can look at the games in question and address the issue, if there legitimately is one.

I can't speak from first hand experience.

However, the likes of PC Specialist are professionals and I doubt they would put these CPUs into their products if there was likely to be issues.

A bit of reading through the PCS forum had some answers for me. It's not really a laptop, it's a "desktop replacement computer" so it's capable of handling desktop CPUs. My only concern is that I've read quite a few comments about the noise of the fans. That's something I'm going to have to weigh up against the incredible performance potential. I'm very much a couch FM player & my girlfriend might kick me out if my laptop means she can't hear the TV.

They are both very high end CPUs and both are near the top of the charts here:

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html?

If you can afford the extra for the Ryzen 9 3900 (which seems to only be £50) I'd say you may as well go for it.  Equally, you're not going to be disappointed with what the Ryzen 7 3700x can do.

I had a look at their comparison & something I noticed is that they're desktop CPUs. Are there any potential issues with having one of them in a laptop, heating problems or anything like that?

  10. Here's the definition of the Balance attribute from the head Scottish researcher in the Scottish data issues thread

"This determines how accurately the player can kick while moving at speed, and how good he is at staying on his feet after crossing the ball while running at a high pace.
It should also be taken into consideration when considering how well he keeps his balance when challenged, although Strength is the main determining factor for that."

I can't say I've seen enough of any of the players in question to reliable rate them but balance of 19 for a CB does seem odd given that definition.

I am a bit over but wanted the 3600 which is not in stock. On my phone in the car so not sure if this cuts the mustard. What do you think?

I've had a look through this thread for some advice & this seems to be catching my eye the most. Seems like the best value considering the CPU. Would it be worth going for the AMD Ryzen 9 3900 rather than the 7 3700X you've selected? Doesn't seem to be a big difference in price.

Celtic are rated higher than Rangers in the Football Manager database.  I think it's by one point, so the teams are pretty even, but still.  The reality is Rangers are running away with the domestic league and are on course to reach the knockout rounds of the Europa League again.  Rangers are outperforming Celtic by quite a distance at the moment both domestically and in Europe.

So my point is the data base doesn't reflect the reality.  Rangers are the better team and are now the bookies favourites and for good reason.  The tables speak for themselves.

Which particular piece of data is wrong?

And after every conversation you've had on here so far why do you think sweeping, average squad based, changes would be made based on slightly over a quarter of a season? Would you equally argue that Man City, 8 points behind Spurs, being rated on average better than them is unrealistic and Spurs' average player CA should be higher than City?

Rangers now 11 points clear at the top of the SPFL.  If Rangers beat Benfica on Thursday they'll be guaranteed a place in the Europa knockout stages for the second year in a row.

From the very first post in this thread

We also request you please adhere to the following three point plan when posting in the data topics:

    ·        State what you think is specifically wrong with a particular piece of data.

    ·        State what you think the data should be.

    ·        State reasons/proof for your suggested corrections/improvements.

So we are stuck with a broken Arsenal team that doesn't fit with reality? Saka had a PA rating of 158 last year. Again, how could he have had a better break-through season in this Arsenal team? Nelson had a PA of 160. These 2 players are not comparable in terms of potential based on the last season and the relative trust shown in them by club/national managers. There should at least be a PA difference of 5 between the two players.

One or two player ratings you disagree with doesn't mean the team is "broken".

    They are closer??

well of course they are going to be as Rangers have improved since Gerrard arrived and Celtic have regressed since Rodgers left over the last 18-24 months.

My argument is that gap should be non existent based on the events of this season so far as we are playing Football Manager 2021 (20/21).

Personally I think it’s a bit ridiculous that I have holidayed 3 seasons and each season Celtic have won the league by an average of 20 points lol.

Out of curiosity, what is the difference in average CA for their top 16 players?

  16. 10 minutes ago, simplythebest92 said:

Thankfully this is only the beta but I do think too big a gap exists between the Old Firm that doesn’t exist anymore in real life.

Went on holiday there for 3 different seasons during the first half of the Euro Qualifiers and got similar results.

first season - Celtic won league by 22 points

second season - they won by 17 points

third season - Celtic by 22

Gerrard was also sacked midway through every season. (Almost as bad as him leaving to Bristol City etc in last years edition lol)

It honestly feels like FM 2017-19 where there was a genuine gap between the Old Firm reflective to real life.

Maybe the researchers aren’t convinced by Rangers this season yet or maybe Celtic are too overpowered but I certainly think they should be looked at as I would have both at similar abilities etc.

It has already been said in this thread that they're closer than they've been since circa 2012. It seems to me that the people will access to the actual PA values in this thread are more than happy with the current standings of them.

  17. 13 hours ago, fivetwelvepony said:

That doesn't make any sense at all. Of course you can have a limit on attributes and still reach your PA. The PA is based on your potential attributes!

Just to make things very simple, suppose there is only one attribute. CA is a function of that the current value of that attribute. PA depends on the max potential value of that attribute for that player. PA will be reached once the attribute hits the max value. Some players will have a higher potential max attribute, and therefore a higher PA.

As an example, I don't care how hard Tim Ream trains, he will never be fast. He has a limit on his potential pace attribute. But he can still maximize his own personal potential by maxing out his own personal values for pace, technique, etc. But his potential will still be less than Messi.

Individual attributes don't have limits though, other than 20. When a player is created they don't have, for example, a hard limit of 16 for finishing, 14 for off the ball and 12 for composure. A player reaching his PA doesn't mean reaching a set of attributes that are defined exactly when he's created.
