  1. Hi

For the winter update, would it be possible to change the interface so the game isn't a pile of unplayable garbage?

    Please remove:

    - necessary cut screen for game reports

    - press conference screens

    - separate screens every time you want to have an interaction with a player

    - basically, every other added screen that is now necessary and wasn't in FM 2020.

    Thanks.

Question: how do you have your database set up? If you have too many players loaded for not enough leagues then it can make it very difficult to sell players for large amounts because there are lots of options out there that the AI will go and find instead. It does make buying easier though.

The opposite is also true where not enough players in too many leagues makes it difficult to buy but easier to sell.

This might be the case, as I always play with a large db.

Still, I think there is something wrong with the transfer logic there. It's not like Liverpool said, "Let's not buy Van Dijk/Alisson for 70+ million because we can get Vestergaard and Guaita for a fraction of that price."

  3. So, for the umpteenth year in a row, it appears that the AI sticks it to the human manager on the transfer market. But it's good that we have a new screen for the Development that basically adds little value to gameplay and a match engine downgrade for this version.

If you have a world class defender with multiple years left on their contract who has an average rating of well over 7 with multiple big teams interested, you tend to get "maybe" 10% over their value - if you're lucky.

I have never gotten more than 60 million pounds for a defender or 45 million for a keeper.

Perhaps transfers should be updated so that they no longer represent transfers in 2016?

I found that as soon as I dropped my defensive line and line of engagement down to higher from much higher, the long balls dried up because I was defending slightly deeper. I think it's an issue with many players playing perhaps too offensively

Did you read the part where I stated I was playing with a balanced mentality and a low defensive line?

In what world is that known as being too offensive?

Yet, you are obviously still playing it.

But you are still a top team that is reputed to play an attacking style of football and tries to put your opponents on the back foot. They've therefore chosen to play a more defensive game and hit you on the break. The AI managers will play a way they believe will counter how they expect you to play. They will Leicester you if they believe it will win them the game.

I'd wager you also play faster games with less highlights. That means you'll see less of the game represented graphically and see the opposition's best moments. If their best moments are when they play direct then that is what you will see a lot of.

Also, look at the world of football. In the Premiership this style is seen often against the better teams. Leicester play direct, Bournemouth play direct. Burnley, Watfor, Newcastle. They will adapt to the situation and try to get the ball up the pitch to a pacey forward.

I've seen long balls in my save, but not to an extent where I believe it is ruining the game. I do believe people like to overeact though, and I also believe that they won't look at the bigger picture very often.

I have no issue with the fact that opposing teams set up that way nor that they attempt the long ball, but the frequency with which these long balls are accurate is a bit over-the-top (pun unintended).

When I've set up with a low defensive line without an attacking mentality or using the 'push forward' shout, there is also no reason why the ball should get over my defenders that easily.

I've noticed issues, things I wanted to recreate on the pitch that didn't work for me, I had a few theories why that happened, and am trying to learn better if those theories are true (or not), in which conditions do those things happen, what can be done to avoid it, and how can I become better at this FM.

By contrast the only thing you appear to be doing is angrily and snarkily telling off people.

I think he's trying to get a job at SI by emulating their style of dealing with other people.

    100% this.

Impatient people who have depended on super tactics for years call it 'unplayable' though.

It's not my tactics making my strikers fire the ball 20 yards off the net in a 1-on-1 situation. They're also not creating the 'invisible wall' in the net that the ball keeps bouncing off of. I also don't remember instructing my fullbacks/wide players to run all the way to the goal line to fire the ball into the side of the net.

  8. My honest belief is that pretty much everything in the game is run through a random number generator, with semi-scripted 'negative events' corresponding to a 'roll of the dice'. A few years ago, after one of my players had a training injury on a day off, I loaded my previous save, played up until that date, and lo and behold, an injury to another player (who also wasn't training).

Basically, at certain points, the game is just going to screw you according to a roll of the figurative dice - with a loss, an injury, a player throwing a temper tantrum, etc - no matter what you do.

Anyone and everyone involved will be subject to NDAs. If SI can or want to answer something, they will. Until then, we just have to wait for more news or the Beta to drop. There's no harm in asking, but don't expect answers. Everyone is furiously busy working on the game, which is only a good thing for us. :)

It's not like I'm asking SI to reveal their source code or the inner workings of the match engine.

It would be nice to know that a feature that is a) a core feature of the game and b) has been an issue since ... forever ...  has been fixed.

  10. Two questions for mods:

    1) After last year's debacle involving FM 2019 being unplayable on Mac for MONTHS, what standards at SI have changed to ensure that the game will work on iOS for more than 8 months out of the next calendar year?

    2) Seeing as it is kind of one of the main facets of the game, and that it's been routinely ignored over the past years, what has changed to ensure that the player doesn't continually receive inadequate offers from other clubs (especially when the same teams give better offers to other AI teams)? Have any changes been made to the transfer logic whatsoever?

You may or may not be Right with the "too many chances", but if anything, it's usually many of the poorer ones that shouldn't be converted that oftenly. Count the amount of stuff from set pieces, no space and range alone, in particular against the inevitable "parking bus AI". To expect or Code any of this stuff to be converted regularly, would Display a complete lack of understanding of how the game of Football works (Copyright TEd Knutson). :D

PS: SI's Definition of a "clear cut Chance" sucks. It will do so for as Long as SI hold an entirelly semantic debate of what should consistitue a clear cut. And even then there's far too many different chances that apply -- from actual tap-ins in an empty net, to reasonably difficult one on ones at no angle and with the Defenders breathing down a forward's neck. Whilst he makes a case for the CCCS I don't agree with, you are likely much better off with Rashidi's Analysis instead. As it's plain obvious a huge Edge over what the AI can do in-game in Terms of Analysis, probably one of the reasons why SI don't "ape" it.

    I would be happy if:

    - a striker with 'Likes to Round Keeper' didn't just kick it directly at the keeper

    - no more goals bounce off the invisible wall that in net

If I have a world class striker going one on one with the keeper, I know it's not going in. Ever.

    What makes you think this?

    1. U18s require a ludicrous overpay.

    2. AI regularly refuses better offers from the player and turns around and accepts lesser offers from other AI clubs.

    3. Clubs (especially Barcelona) regularly bid on your best players, but refuse to spend a pence more than the player's value, even if your player is a Ballon d'Or winner with 5 years left on his contract.

The only teams that seem to give fair value on top end players are PSG and Man City.

    4. When clubs actually do make decent offers, players refuse the deal way too frequently.

If you are getting decent value for your players, please share how to do so because I've been getting crap offers on various iterations of this game since I started playing a decade ago.

And yes, I've read online guides to selling players. The transfer mechanism in the game is just rubbish.

Drum roll. The results are in. Miles has divulged another ground-breaking news...

Bored of, "better eyebrows on regens" news. We need & deserve something better.

Match engine & better AI transfers would be preferable.

Match engine should be better, although I'm looking forward to way too many chances being generated before SI does what they do every year and nerfs clear cut chances by the striker to offset it ... again.

Transfer logic has been laughably tilted in the AI's favor for over a decade, and SI has regularly ignored any comments on this topic over the same time period, so why would it be updated for this edition?
