This one might be tough but maybe dynamic league strength? There was a time where nations like the Czech Republic and Slovakia weren't pumping out very many NHL quality hockey players and with the rise of Anze Kopitar, hockey in Slovenia is getting more popular. It's also been about 25 years since hockey really took off in California and we're now seeing California born NHL players appearing
So I was thinking something like if there are players from non-traditional hockey countries like the UK and they become star players and/or win the cup, it could make hockey more popular in their home country causing more hockey players to appear from that region over a period of time. If a player is a GM in one of those non-traditional countries, maybe they can improve the quality of hockey in that country by developing team facilities and developing players for the NHL.
