OTF’s Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament (plus other things to vote on)
Astafjevs replied to sebsy's topic in Euro 2024 Forum
Player of the tournament Rodri Most Disappointing Team: France or Hungary Surprise Package/Over Achievers: Holland, but then they had the draw open up for them Best Individual Team Performance: Slovakia vs. England. They deserved to win Match Of The Tournament: Spain vs. Italy Goal Of The Tournament: Probably Güler's Team/Squad Of The Tournament: GK: Donnarumma RB: Koundé CB: Akanji CB: Saliba LB: Nuno Mendes CM: Rodri CM: Dani Olmo CM: Vitinha RF: Lamine Yamal ST: Gakpo LF: N Williams Subs: GK: Marmadashvili DEF: Guéhi DEF: Hernández MID: Xhaka MID: Musiala FW: Morata FW: Güler Without thinking too much about the answers. Aké was very close to being included. -
England will have at least until 2030 where they're genuine contenders for tournaments regardless of coach because of their talent pool and the age of said talent pool. Whether they win or not is a different question but France have just gone final, winners, R16, final, semi-final in their last five events, largely because they have a ridiculous group to pick from. No reason England can't add a third final too.

Feel like people watched a different game. Yamal had a chance that he should have done better with (one that curled straight at Pickford); Olmo had a chance shortly after the 1-0 that he should have done better with (scuffed it wide); Yamal had another that forced a decent Pickford save. We're not talking absolute sitters or 1v1s, but on another night they might take one of those.

Yeh re: Rice. That isn't his position. It was clear at the World Cup. But at Arsenal he has Jorginho who, whether you like him or not, is good at the job he's put in the team for. England don't have anyone like that so Rice has to do it. I think that needs to be accounted for whenever analysing a Rice performance for England.
