Dale Watkins was an amazing LLM signing in CM 01/02. I thought it was a good name then. I did not expect to still be around 20 years later.

  1. Just checked and Turkey has 10 players sitting on one yellow card. With another performance like today and somehow beating Austria, they may have to swap out the entire team for the quarter-finals
  2. 16 Yellow cards, 1 Yellow/Red, 1 straight Red Still only two players for Turkey banned for the next round: Calhanoglu and Akaydin.
  3. I mean this wouldn't sound that bad on paper for the quarter-finals: Germany - Spain France - Portugal Netherlands - Austria England - Italy
  4. I doubt they have a preference. Hungary is maybe marginally better than Slovakia, but it would be the same game, and it's better to go into the next round with some momentum.
  5. Yildiz super lucky to still be on the pitch. Could have been straight red, and then he elbows someone in the head a minute later.
  6. Oh, right. Should have gone with @Rob1981 analysis, not @Astafjevs. Goal difference makes a difference in that game though. Anyways, I'm hoping for an England vs Netherlands matchup in the next round.
  7. I'm honestly not a huge fan of the current format either. I could imagine an experiment with four groups of six teams, with only the top two advancing straight to the quarterfinals. There would be more games for TV, two more guaranteed matches for each team, and only one extra match until the final. It would result in a whole bunch of meaningless matches in the last group round, though, so it would probably not be popular with the neutrals, but fans might appreciate seeing their team more often. Most importantly, big teams wouldn't stumble through to the next round with one win and a bunch of draws. You'd actually have to play for wins in order to make it.
