Yep bang on. Thought it was really interesting that he chose to bring on Laporte and shift Zinchenko into midfield (on paper). Of course, that left hand side position he occupied is where a conventional Pep full back (sometimes wide, sometimes inside) would play anyway. Funny old things formations. I need to go back and double check but they were effectively playing a kind of Cruyff style 343 diamond, with much interchangement, other than Rodri mostly hanging slightly further back.
I suppose the mitigating circumstance with Zinchenko is that, in reality, he's a midfielder anyway - so that was the slightly more obvious switch. Not that Cancelo couldn't play absolutely anywhere on the pitch, of course.
12 hours ago, Flußkrebs said:I can't pretend to have watched the City U23s at all so I'll take your word for it. Would you say it's more of a narrow 343 in possession? With a double pivot/box midfield formed like Cancelo usually does and the two 8s playing in the channels ahead? How does it line up defensively, like this?:
Nmecha------McAtee-----Edozie
Knight------------Palmer
LaviaC.Doyle---Gomes---Burns---E-Riley
Yeah that's it. Factoring in the step-down of course, that Egan-Riley is a much more...rustic player than Cancelo, he tends to move next to the DM (Lavia recently, he's played there himself though!) to form that double pivot like you say, rather than what we see with Cancelo who seemingly bypasses that line altogether.
The most interesting reveal in this particular reserve game for me, was unlike CM James McAtee playing up front (Liam Delap suspended due to having a bit of a temper, and not having another striker) - we had both an LWB (Oscar Tarensi) and a RWB (Alpha Dionkou) on the bench. This seems to suggest it was an active decision. In fact, when Tarensi came on, he sat right where Ben Knight was playing in the advanced midfield, much like his senior Zinchenko did for the first team!

Excellent stuff.
Thought it was interesting last night after Laporte came on, it looked quite like this in possession:
Sterling------Mahrez------Torres
Zinchenko--Bernardo--Cancelo
RodriLaporte-----------------------Stones
DiasCancelo would have been the one to fall back into line but uh... he never really needed to...
This interests me because the reserves have played like this throughout Pep's time here, making me think he wanted to play like this all along. For example on Monday, in possession, they looked like this:
Nmecha--McAtee--Edozie
Knight-----------------Palmer
Lavia--E-RileyC.Doyle---Gomes---Burns
With CJ Egan-Riley being the RB in the defensive phase. None of those players up top are strikers either, so watching the pattern last night felt very familiar.
I'm glad to hear you say that its generally a bit of a struggle to perform the role & duty based switch to the back 3, as I've struggled myself

There is a youth player in the Man City team called Dire Mebude (on the game). On my version he appears to have several middle names added to his 'information' page, two appear to be duplicated as I believe his birth name is Adedire Awokoya-Mebude, but on the game it appears as Adedire Emmanuel OIuwatofunmi Iyiola (these last two repeat) OIuwatofunmi Iyiola Awokoya-Mebude. Could this be checked out via your typical sources?
Good spot, the PL squad list confirms it as Adedire Emmanuel Oluwatofunmi Iyiola Awokoya-Mebude.

Jayden Braaf: pa -8 is underrated for him, should be -85 or -9.
Jayden Braaf has been named as the 2020 ManCity U23s Players' Player of the Year, he won this title when he was 17 years old.
And compared to Sancho when they both aged 17, Jayden Braaf mainly plays for u23, and sancho mainly plays for u18.
I think Braaf is as good as sancho, and his pa is too low for him.
The two seasons you are comparing are JS's scholarship year (16->17yo) and JB's second year (17->18).
JB's first year at City is more comparable to JS's. In the equivalent of JB's second year that you have posted here - JS played 12 games in the Bundesliga.JB's birthdate on the very last possible day for inclusion in his group means that this sort of data is skewed anyway, comparable in some aspects, but not completely fair either way.
I don't really disagree about Braaf having a high ceiling, but I'm not sure it's as high as Sancho. Also he's not played much this season for me to re-evaluate, and it looks like he won't be around for much longer. @Reddiablo & @Philip Rolfe might think differently.

So now he has been drawn into the first team squad . Well, give him a -95 then.
Give us *some* credit, chief - a lot more thought goes into it than that.

You have obviously not seen Shoretire play, he's entirely there on merit.
I thought he was OK today, up against a young City U23 side (by policy). I wouldn't be rushing to break Nick's rating system for him, as tidy as he was.
As an aside I was impressed with some of Hanibal's movement, however. He's like a nouveau Pogba in lots of ways.

Thanks both @Experienced Defender @frukox
11 hours ago, Experienced Defender said:I think such (more mobile) role would better suit a player like Jesus (as well as other City strikers).
Straight after seeing your post last night, I lowered urgency slightly, set def width to normal (this was me attempting to combat intrusions through the middle originally) and narrowed the wingers, and had instant success with a 5-2 win v Sevilla w/ effectively my C team.
I didn't change the ST just yet, as I had a funny feeling that where Jesus and Aguero are falling short, young Liam Delap has been thriving, and sure enough: 2 goals and an 8 rating. Is there any merit in the idea that DLFat suddenly comes alive with a 1.87m powerhouse, or is it a case of still sacrificing too much team play, get all 3 on a supporting role?
5 hours ago, frukox said:switch the role of left full-back to attack. He's going to join the attack as soon as possible and look for at least two targets in the area before the opposition defence settle.
I like this idea, especially if I'm losing an attack duty in my striker. I'm slightly concerned about having both left wide players on attack duties however. Am I just being over-cautious with my balancing here?
Understood on your thoughts on the right side, another potential issue is my IW and MEZ both end up with average positions VERY close together, and I'm worried about them cancelling each other out!

Hello all, I've finally caved in to asking for some help
This year I've tried to really get stuck into the roles and shape of a tactic, in order to try and increase my knowledge in an area that is probably one of my weaknesses to be honest.
I'm getting SOME success but there are issues, and I was wondering if anybody from this esteemed forum were able to pick out any errors, clashes or observations?
---
I'm happy with the shape overall, I think it suits City well and helps form my transfer and development plans coherently.
With roles, I have read the pairs & combinations guide and role descriptions thoroughly, and:
- I liked the idea of an attacking Mezalla getting forward and wide to create passing triangles between him, the AMR and the DR (x1 At & x2Su)
- I also liked the idea of a hopefully complimentary Carrillo, also getting wide (+ further forward) to support the AML and DL (x1At & x2Su). The idea of him being a shuttler suggested a lower workload than B2B, while the intensity is so high.
- The DLF was the first role I've used in this formation that after looking at the stats, creates a similar amount of touches than what we see in real life (around 40 per game) I've used Complete Forward in previous years, but on reflection our forwards are probably too small
Player instructions:
DLP - Tackle Hard, Take More Risks
CAR - Get Further Forward, Take More RisksI've recently switched Sterling from Raumdeuter, his attributes are a good match and I had some games in the beta where he's looked remarkably like he does in real life, but his ratings since release are low and goal output practically nothing. (I'd like to get this working, even if only when he's on the pitch)
The striker's rating ends up low despite being quite involved in games, and again, scoring poorly.
I can't decide whether to set the wingers to start narrower or stay wider. My gut says with the two players behind them wide (if my thinking here even works), they should sit narrower.
The WBs get involved in build up, as does the DM.
---
My main issue is that I seem to create a OK amount of chances with a poor conversion rate. XG varies so I couldn't really say if they are good chances or not. I often end up with poor ratings across the entire front three. While I am winning games(and conceding little atm), the scores are usually low. I've just won three games in a row after the opposition had a man sent off, two of those coming from behind.
I've also just been absolutely pasted away to Napoli in the CL, with balls over the top. I know I'm pushed high up with slower defenders but I'd rather defend by scoring loads of goals.
If any of this sounds like the problems City are actually having in real life, you can understand why I'm tearing my hair out right now. Pun intended.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers!

naby keita: he's 2 years in England. As I remember his transfer was announced earlier as well. He has no knowledge of English language?
I dont know the Lad in person, got no idea of his languages, but guess the minimum of his english language must be "2" in editor. Imagine the guy must go to the bakery.... :-)
Looks like he might be getting there slowly https://www.thisisanfield.com/2019/10/naby-keita-much-better-after-big-step-with-language/
It's not unheard of though. Claudio Bravo and Nicolas Otamendi left with hardly a word of the language between them.

Gabriel Jesus is way overrated again. He can barely score a goal in real life. Were he to be at Leicester or Sheff United nobody would even notice him. 156CA/175P
Can you tell me what exactly this overall opinion is based on, and which specific areas you personally believe him to be overrated, please?

Not sure if to post this in here or the transfer section but my save has seen Liverpool sign John Stones for £12.75m
Hmm. There's a few scenarios I could imagine that being *theoretically* possible. Maybe AI Pep convinced Garcia to stay. Maybe one of the very promising batch of centre backs came out too good to ignore. Maybe Liverpool's real life injury crisis is being recreated, and/or Stones fancied more first team football?
Liverpool are set as competitive rivals in-game, but the rating for that is quite flexible to show that it is more current than historic & permanent.
It certainly seems more likely than what I did in my City save, ACTUALLY ADDRESSING THE LEFT BACK PROBLEM.
Sorry, that isn't relevant.

I'm just mentioning it because in fm20 he was taller and transfermarkt also says he taller
The info you get on TM can vary wildly on quality/accuracy. It's an excellent site but it's always worth double checking anything you see on there elsewhere, as a rule.
https://www.premierleague.com/players/50989/Claudio-Gomes/overview
That said, this could still be wrong, but he's always looked a lot closer to this sort of height to my eye!

He's never 1.8m. He's tiny!

Just to say Man United wonderkid Hannibal is shown as a white guy with short hair atm. As a pretty popular wonderkid would be good to have it accurate 🙌
As much as I'd love to see big floppy bouffants blowing about in the FM weather, we're not there yet. His complexion looks about right to me IMO, although I've only seen him in pictures...

Had to dive into Saka's profile to see what the fuss was about, only to find a PA which would make him the 8th best player in City's squad (And he WILL get there at his age). Incredible.
Probably worth looking into the way PA actually works (detailed in this thread previously), before complaining about a stat that a 28 year old Mustafi WILL NOT ACHIEVE, getting personal and risking a ban?

I’ve done a season at city and in my save Leeds had the option to buy for 10m and Harrison himself turned it down? Always under the impression we loaned him out with an obligation tbf
(and @Tom Lenny)
Hmm. Weird that he's turned it down. The £10m amount is deffo there, I'll email this through as a consideration. Thanks.

@Sean Blinkhorn Noticed this on one of Man Citys transfer clauses regarding future signing Kluiverth Aguilar, would think the future sell on clause would actually go to Alianza rather than Man City?

Tom Scott (28113836) is still under contract? Everything I can find says he should have been released in the summer
Correct!
However, he then turned up in U23 games after the season started, including this one last weekend
I have absolutely no idea what's happened with this atm, but he's back.

Hi people..
is the database the final one? it seems strange to me that Angelino , starting player in the Leipz who arrived in the semifinal of the champions league and voted one of the best players in the competition , has remained identical to when he never played in man city.
Values are exactly the same as last year . How is it possible?
It would be better detailing your opinion on how he should look in the German forum, as the research team there are the ones that have been watching and rating him for nearly a year now.

Filip stevanovic is showing as being with Man City and on loan to partizan. dont think any transfer has been done for him
He joins in Jan but will probably stay there on loan till the end of the season. The game doesn't allow a future transfer followed by a loan, so it is better to transfer him early.
