DLP on support is what I use in the middle to achieve exactly what you describe, for what it's worth.
Thanks for the suggestion. This guy was my holding midfielder, so I will have to see if and how I can implement this without losing to much in terms of defense.

Thanks, that explains it. This means I will have to decide if wider CMs is worth having a less defensive CM/DM. Back to the drawing board :-)

My CMs will move further to the sides in the tactical creator if I push my DM into the CM strata. Is this actually happening in the matches as well or is this only depicted like that on the tactics creator screen? If I watch the matches I do not really see an effect. I must note that my new central CM still plays behind the other CMs in possesion. because of his lower mentality.
The idea was that a flat midfield might exploit the half-spaces better if the outer CMs are actually pushed to the sides, compared to a triangle with a DM.

Thanks for the response. It helps me to understand making tactics a bit better. I am currently playing with something similar. One difference is that both my CMs are on a CM(a) duty. But if I am correct, there should be no difference between a CM(s) with the GFF instruction and a CM(a) right? Or am I missing something?

It is a lot but you'll always have a lot playing a high block and pressing as you need to set the line, marking, closing down and pressing the keeper. Take them out and see what happens. Some may be redundant.
Out of curiousity, did you remove a TI with your 4-1-4-1 formation in comparison to the 3-5-1-1? Since in your opening posts you use 8 TIs and if you add "exploit the middle" it would make 9 instead of the 8 you are talking about.

If I understand it correctly playmakers have a hardcoded ability to 'attract' the ball, but are there other roles with abilities not explained by their PIs?
To be more precise: Is there anything 'special' about a box-to-box midfielder not explained by its instructions? E.g. if I take a central midfielder on support with the roaming PI, would he be identical to a B2B-midfielder?

I thought about this too, but unfortunately this was not available as PI for my advanced playmaker in the CM-strata. An AP on the AM strata or other roles in the CM-strata could have this PI.
