Came exactly to say this. So many times my winger or full back had the chance to give it to a striker for an easy tap in but instead decided to shoot to the side netting. But it's not the only issue of course. I can't have this happening every game it's too frustrating. It's not fun anymore to play and i'll also wait for an update.

I've said it before but it's almost as if the players don't realize that they are in a team. As if they are only focused on their specific task and position. The times i've just seen my wide players pick up the ball around the center of the pitch and run for ever and then shoot from a impossible angle. I've come to a point where i blame losses more to strange ME behavior then my bad management. And i've had succes with this ME even, but then still it's not really rewarding because i can't seem to get the team to play like i want them to. Really a shame bacause i really like almost every other aspect of the game. Things like club vision and de development center are brilliant. It was really rewarding to see a youngster progress and work its way into the first team.

Also, some of those long balls actually look legit - not all of them are caused by the center backs reacting too late. When you push your defensive line up, press high up, you SHOULD be vulnerable to those type of attacks. Otherwise everybody will just push forward and press, just like in FM 19.

I don't think anyone will disagree that. What bothers me most is the amount of them, always pin point accurate and my defenders reacting way to late. It's al about balance and I think it's just not right now.

  3. Nice story!

Camavinga is an absolute beast in my current save. Started at Lyon where i got him for 21M or so. Helped me win the title in my 5th year there. I moved to Atletico Madrid. Immediately signed him (for 91M) and he helped me win La Liga in my first season. In my 3rd season there, Man City bought him because of his 115M release clause. After three years of Atletico i moved to Tottenham. Just done my 1st year. Finished 3rd, while City where 5th. Unhappy about not playing CL i bought him again with Spurs.

Off the pitch this is the most engrossing and balanced FM / CM I have played.

On the pitch so many things feel off with the ME, but mostly the relationship between ME, players attributes and tactics. Its hard to explain but I really don't feel a lot of connection with my players attributes, the tactics I use and what is displayed in the ME. Physical attributes seem OP, its far to easy to set up like Klopp, but I have just as much success with a fast strong CF with low finshing /composure / decsisons as a fast strong CF with great stats in those areas being one example.

It kind of feels that the ME is running against a stricter set of hardcoded algorithms that is superceding what players I use and tactics I choose. It has been this way to some degree since the 2018 ME, but this is the first year that I have felt a real disconnection with what the ME is displaying. While the FM17 ME was far from perfect I did feel that the relationship between my players attributes, tactics I used and ME was more immersive and insync with each other, meaning ther players I purchased and their attributes mattered and the tactics I used to get the best out of those attributes mattered and those decisions were reflected in the ME.

This is exactly how i feel right now. I was playing a slow passing, build up from the back tactic before the last ME update and while it had it's problems (IF/W's just running and shooting into the side netting) i saw that style on the pitch. After the update i stayed with that tactic for a while and every game my biggest chances are from CB's passing it to the forwards, who then miss the 1-on-1. I have had a bit more succes by turning of most of the "in transitions" options like press and counter.

Other things that really annoy me is that, even with "dribble less" they run far to much with the ball. My attacking winger will pick up the ball on our own half and just run for days, ignoring anyone around him and shoot from an impossible angle. Not helping that more often then not, my CF will stop running half way up the pitch only to pick up the pace when it's already to late.

In general i think that my biggest problem is that it seems like players forget that they are in a team. Hardly ever will they look for support or hold up play when they clearly should realize that going on alone will not work. It's like every player has a -1 intelligence.

Hard to say. I think that I've learned to try to think of roles and duties in a more coherent fashion. For example, at right FB, did he need an attack duty? The IWs starts from an advanced wide position and moves inside; the MEZa starts inside and moves into an advanced wide position. Did I really need a third player moving into an advanced wide position on the same flank? On the other side, given that the IF is on attack, the FB position needed a support duty so as to avoid leaving that flank unnecessarily exposed. But was a FB duty enough? Although a FB gets forward, it's generally later than a WB, so during the build up the IFa could be marked by both the opposing RB and RCB. Therefore, it should be WB support, to retain some degree of defensive stability but also enough attacking threat to give the opposing RB a tough decision who to mark/close down. Even so, the WB is quite aggressive in attack, as (obviously) is the IFa, so the CM on that side needed a more conservative role (especially given the attacking CM on the other side).

Think you're onto something here and also something i'm still learning. It's not to think of a shape but to think of the shape in different phases of play. On the attack your shape will be so different from when your defending or in a more neutral phase of play.

I figured that might be why but I think dropping deeper also encourage more counter-attacking "triggers" correct?

Phrased differently: when people create successful attacking tactics, with high defensive lines, what do they do different than me to make it work? I guess there's probably not one simple answer...

I'm still learning how to create tactics but from what i've read i think it's like this. When on attacking mentality you're not really telling your players to play more attacking, you're telling them to take more risk. So with a slightly deeper defensive line you give your defenders more space and because they take more risk on attacking you're telling your players that it's ok to, as soon as you have the ball, just play it long and your attacking players will try more forward runs.  I've been reading the "The Torino Diaries" topic and trying to adapt that high pressing vision i have created a tactic on defensive mentality that will generally create more chances, shot's on target and possession then the opponent. I suggest you give that topic a read because it completely changed how my view on mentalities and how they work in FM.
