It always seems that way to me too, but I like the narrative constructed by Coffee and Mars here - we're simply not aware of clubs having an interest in a given player until we make enquiries. After all, it's only the top top players who command transfer gossip interest in the media.

I just wish it wasn't so random.

In one game I could sign 4-5 out of 20 players I had on trial at the start of the game (being just the one bidder), and in a different save I never got a chance with any of the same players, effectively ruining my save because in order to even get a chance to offer them a contract, I had to sell current players...

You should have an indication of how many clubs are interested in a player. If its something like 24, I wouldn't bother competing. If it is just a few, the info will name the clubs in question, and you can gauge from that whether the player is likely to prefer yours or theirs. Often they are more interested in playing time than wages.

That's one of the issues i find, in many times I see no clubs interested, and when I bid, immediately two or many more teams bid for the player.

I think the premise is that until you've made contact you're unaware of other interested parties. Once you've made contact with the player and/or the agent, you're made aware of other interest.

    Works as intended, surely?

But some of those players already have loads of clubs interested, whereas others have no interested clubs shown, until after I bid for them. So it's' not always the case.

  3. Hello, just wanted to share my experience with lower league free transfers this year, specifically Concord Rangers, Vanarama South.

I see loads of unattached players especially at the start of the game, with no clubs interested, but as soon as I bid, I almost always start a bidding war, which usually involves higher division clubs, thus I stand no chance getting that player. I understand that's very realistic as my bid becomes known to other clubs, and what sometimes works is getting them on trial, and waiting for a couple of weeks late in the preseason until I make an offer. Another thing I do is wait until very late in preseason to make an offer, If they still are available that is.

This is not me complaining by the way, I'm just curious to know of others' experience in the lower leagues concerning free transfers, especially year one.

Hello everyone and apologies for not replying to this thread sooner.

This is a known issue which is already reviewed by the dev team

    Kind regards,

    Vik

Is this issue still being reviewed? I had the same issue last year and again the same this year. I'm on a long-term save, in the Premier League from LLM and have 19-year-old prospects that get no game time. Really annoying

  5. I want to add to this post. This is the reason i've just given up on my Concord Rangers save after leading them to League One and had a really enjoyable save. BUT... the issue is HOW this feature works, not why it's there. And it's been flawed since its introduction a few versions ago.

My best prospect, an 18-year-old U20s English goalkeeper, valued at 35k-40k.

Chairman accepts a 300k-400k offer from Brighton, including silly stuff like arrange a friendly and 250k when my player has an international app, because it's "too good to refuse". AND i know that when i use the "offer to clubs" feature, i get offers of 5 million from 4-5 other premier league clubs!  And i've reloaded the save, over and over again, the player keeps accepting the contract from Brighton (cannot chat with him because he's unhappy). This has been the same story for the past few FMs and is causing me to give up on my save. My club is struggling with finances, i develop a player i can sell for 5 million and now i'm losing him for 250k???  No sense at all.

Uploaded a save game now, named Panayiotis Panteli - Concord.

  6. I surely hope now that all is announced, SI will provide more info for the managers attempting to buy foreign players, perhaps via scouts informing the manager that "player A will get so many points because of playing so many games for country and so many games for club". Miles just replied to my tweet telling me to post on the forum's suggestions forums, but I think this topic here is the place to push for such changes to be included in the hotfix being prepared.

For me, that fix will determine whether i'll buy the game i've been playing since the CM days, or it'll be the first year that i'll have to skip...

If you like signing young players under 22 don’t play in England and see all or any of my posts in this thread

Thanks for your reply. I really don't mind about any brexit scenario, even if that means I'll only have to buy English players. But from what I had read the whole system was flawed, with teams not readjusting their visions, having appeals accepted after 6 months after no changes in player status, etc. I'd like to know whether those issues seem sorted now

If you look on the Premier League rules within in the game there is an entire section dedicated to Work Permit rules. When you offer someone a contract it will tell you specifically what rules that they haven't passed making them unlikely to get a WP. IE international appearances, league appearances, league reputation, european competition appearances.

Yes i know that section, but does one know what that threshold is, i.e. how many more points are required, and how those points are allocated?

I've not seen anyone posting screenshots of players who fulfil all the criteria who aren't getting work permits, unless I'm missing something.

(And I'm not an SI fanboy, there's plenty of things about FM21 I'm not keen on, but this isn't one of them)

    What criteria?

Yeah, I get that. There are two different discussions happening here I think and I may have gotten them confused, I'm not sure.

The game should model things as per the most likely scenario.

Said model should function correctly. 👍

Yep, having been monitoring this discussion since its start, the two different discussions you rightly spotted are:

People annoyed at SI implementing the hard Brexit (which is likely to be the scenario anyway) and trying to find ways to change that so that it won't "ruin" their experience

    Vs

People who (like me) want the point system to be more thoroughly explained, and bugs allowing people to sign any talent on appeal to be fixed before the official release

  11. 2 minutes ago, Junkhead said:

People are only fuming about it because it affect how they play and who they can buy. This is what will actually happen IRL.

I'm only fuming about it because it is flawed, well i'm not really fuming yet because it IS only the Beta. But I'm really waiting to see how this flawed system will be sorted, so that I decide whether I will buy this year's game. And i suspect i'm not the only one who doesn't like the idea of exploiting this flawed system either. I don't mind the Brexit, i didn't mind about the different Brexit scenarios implemented in other FM versions, because they were coded properly, albeit there was some random effect involved, which was understandable anyway.

  12. It is even documented on video now on youtube, i don't think i'm allowed to share, but obviously everyone can do a search, that the work-permit system is clearly broken, just having to wait for 120 days and all work permits for promising youth are granted.

I really hope this is sorted in the final release.

I posted this in the bugs section, could be linked?

Definitely work to be done with WPs and Brexit, way too many inconsistencies in different ways! Really hope a fair and enjoyable balance is found!

Even the wording before that "wage of N/A or above" seems to imply that the application failed!!! ("Upon appeal he would fail to meet the required points threshold")

Im second season and got promoted with Bristol City, after reading this post I thought I would give this a try.

I signed Oliver Batista Meier after his permit was turned down so just trained him

After 120 days I applied for a permit even though in a press conference they told me he wouldn't get one and to my surprise, granted for the duration of his contract.

Did he get a permit now as he is an English premier league player as of course not played a single match at any level?

If that's the case, doesn't this sound like a bug?

Not sure where you're looking, but it is

note that the below is ONE of the possible options (where all Angolan players would fail this criteria, due to their substandard national team)

Yep, that version of Brexit, i have no trouble with, it's spot on. I'm mainly talking about the point system version, club league position, league reputation, too vague

There are several parameters that make up the availability of a WP and the world rating of the country involved is certainly one of them.  I am sure that if you checked online the full WP application process could be found.

Shouldn't that application process be found in-game though? In the work permit rules section preferably?....

Are people really complaining about Brexit restrictions? I mean perhaps more people should have voted against it, and then not elected the blond muppet to make a crappy deal.

Unfortunately this is reality for people now. It is crap. I just had to sort out my work permit to stay on the continent. May I suggest lobbying and doing proactive things in real life to get rid of this travesty? Or if you like the internet warrior thing we could twitter bomb BJ to tell him he messed up our FM21 saves.

Or wait for the release of the game where someon will undoubtedly release a no Brexit file.

I'd never complain about the politics that affect the game, I do complain about the casual implementation of politics in the game though. E.g. Having to guess what "club reputation" or reputable league" means, so that you can know which market you could go for to sign someone, that's so unnecessary. I'm just hoping that in the finished product the brexit rules, whatever SI choose, are explained in-detail.

We're talking about realism all the time here, would it be realistic for an English club manager after 1st of January to ask his scouts to scout a nation, that he can buy no players from because of it's top league not being reputable enough? Of course not!

So in short, that work permit rules screen needs to be enriched with at least some more info.
