Being a newly promoted team I would like to know what tactical hints and tips that I can use to help prepare for next season. I was predicted to be the worst team in the league but was able to finish comfortably mid table despite overperforming XG by a lot so I'm just wondering what I can do to not have to rely on luck as much.

I started a new season with the same team + some tactical tweaks and also got a few more players in on loan / free transfer and my team media prediction went from expected 20th -100 to a prediction of 12th -50 odds to win the league and I managed to win the playoffs and get promoted The only problem is that how can I know when a team is ready to compete because obviously it's pretty much the same tactic but in the season where my team was expected to be 16th I was sacked before March And it's in the same league too so there's no way that telling the team to press a bit higher can lead to such varying results right?

So I'm playing as a different team now, a mid table team for away games I am trying to utilise a mid block and counter attack it seems to be working but for whatever reason the board wants to get promoted despite not being one of the stronger squads.

As an away team even though we are strong enough to beat most teams in away games it can be a bit of a struggle which can make it hard to win knockout legs of the UCL or win the league How can I make this tactic more pragmatic for when I'm the away team?

I’ve been using the media pre season predictions but that doesn’t seem to be very accurate as there have been seasons where I have been predicted for relegation but finished top half but then the next season was in a relegation battle despite using the same tactic. How do I know when my team will be ready to compete or what I’m missing squad building wise.

So I finally managed to get the opposing XG down by that 0.20 I put the mentality on Balanced and both CMs as BBM (S) slightly different from the screenshot.

@Johnny Ace Are there any suggestions that you would make for helping to bring down the opposing team's XG that's the main problem, I feel like if it can go down by 0.20 things will be fine.

@Johnny Ace Sorry for pinging but I don't know where to go from here, the first screenshot is with IF(A) the second screenshot is with IF(S) on the flanks, and a similar thing will happen if you put Winger (s) on one side with a FB (S) on that flank along with a IF (S) and a WB (S) on the other flank. with an AF (A) it just doesn't make any sense.

What would you do in this situation?

Late reply but I removed "Higher tempo passing" and "Pass into space" second season seems to be going a lot better as I am 3rd in Mid November and XG table is healthy, finished 5th in the first season and the second season bug seems to have been defeated.

I have tried to react to it but, what happens is that it's not even random, it makes no sense that even when you make a change it stops working at the same point EVERY time, it's not like the changes don't work at all, it will always stop working at the start of the second season, I just told you the different formations used and system changes but the same thing happens every time. For example if you start a new season the tactic will ALWAYS work in the first season then stop working in the second, seems a bit fishy to me because if other teams readjust I get that but they always wait until the end of the season to do so??? So the tactic still works despite opposition adjustments until we start a new season?

Yes but Pep and Klopp don't have to deal with opposing teams going from 1.2XGA to 2XGA per season with no real tactical changes and despite Liverpool and Man City having a stronger squad than last year.

I understand what you're saying too because I may have mad one too many threads but what I don't understand is that this same thing has happened at least five times like what I mentioned in the first comment will happen, I'll change some roles around then everything will be fine again then exact same thing will happen again after a few seasons. Even if you go to say a 4-4-2/ 4-3-3 flat it doesn't work from the start rather than working for one season then falling apart, there's nothing I can do. And also the thing is that even in the second season the squad is stronger than in the first, in the first season the team is predicted to finish 20th (rock bottom) I get them to 6th (3rd in the XG table) and playoff finals, next season.... 18th in December.

You do know that I did try their advice but I didn't want to end up leaving a comment every single time, and even then it either didn't work or it would work but at the start of the next season it would immediately stop working I'm talking going from playoff finals to relegation form with the exact same players in the exact same league just because the first season ended...

I thought that until the XG table caught up with me and I ended up getting 15th, still above 18th but I don't want to be stuck in 18th so I'd like to know what I can do tactically to improve the defending.

I am managing one of the worst teams in the league and despite using a tactic that has worked with other teams well in the past , we are struggling to defend so I would like to know what others would change in this situation.

Either tactically or player wise?

Thanks for your reply, the thing I've noticed is that results are heavily dependent on pre season media predictions, for example when my team is at 100-1 or 50-1 I can usually get a good season but when it's at like 200-1 even if you're using the same tactic it becomes impossible to win, is there anything I can do to help with this because even though I have signed a few players on loan and signed some free agents but this doesn't change anything. I do understand that when you have a stronger team you're more likely to win but I'm just not sure about how you know when your team is at a good level relative to the competition around you.
