I realize that this is just a beta, and that there's still stuff to add/tweak. It's always exciting to have a new FM to have a look at. There's a lot of promising features that you got going, and I think that there's heaps of potential in the game. However I'm struggling with enjoying this iteration, simply because the UI and design of the interface/matches is very clunky and for some reason less intuitive. Simple things like that you have to click several buttons to adjust stuff (staff search, opposition instructions) and the fact that I cannot easily view several important factors during a match (like player condition). The new tactic page is very messy (I do however like the focus of areas and strengths/weaknesses) and have less information. I actually prefer to go into the squad page to set my team and substitutes up, which again, adds a step to the process. Also, why do I have to go into tactics to set opposition instructions? I also feel like there should at least be an option to opt out of the pre-game tunnel clips and circle pep talks for people who do not want to see it. Again, another step that you've added before I can get into the match.
And then boom, finally in a game. Why do you force me to switch into the information page when there is no highlight on going? And why can't i edit it? Why can't I see player condition in this intermittence? The 2d match graphics is also super clunky and feels just to big. I get that you want players to experience the 3d match engine and graphics, but I don't play FM to see stuff in 3d - I'd play FIFa then. You have your niche in being a detail-focused and oriented game, thats why I prefer 2d - more info and more details. And what is important in a FM match? Tactics, adjusting based on the game, and managing the team. With this in mind, why is tactics, shouts, adjustments and such given so little "space" and visual importance in the match UI? Had I not played FM constantly since CM I would've thought that opposition instructions wasn't as important as you've almost hidden it. I wouldn't have thought that match fitness and player condition was particularly important since it's not really highlighted. Tactics? It can't be that important, because surely they would've highlighted it's importance in the design?
But I am glad that you have added more steps before I can actually see the fruit of my managing. More lame psedu-teamtalks in the pre-game tactic talk, something that is so impactful on the players and that everyone reacts to. As I have seen on forums and amongst discussion with fans that we want more of the very interesting and engaging stuff like press conferences that doesn't matter I feel like adding more tedious team talks, more tedious pre-game talks (that really impacts the game so much, like great.)
In all seriousness - I think the focus on more analysis and pre-game prep can be good. But it has no effect so far in the beta. And I get it, the players are not interested in what I have to say in the team talk. The dressing room goes quiet every ****ing time I am having a team talk. What a rewarding addition.
If you are able to do something with your UI, or at least enable fan based skin to change it's layout almost entirely, then I think I will enjoy FM18. But with the UI and the design you've got going right now, I think I will just return to FM17, and most likely not pre-purchase any more iterations of Football Manager.
But I would like to return to the beginning: I see some really good potential in FM18, which just make the glaring UI and design issues much more damning, as I want to enjoy it - but it's so counter-intuitive, clunky and tedious that I am having a hard time playing it.

The new flashing ads in 2d are almost making me feel nauseous in some transitions and I find them incredibly distracting. Does anyone have information on refunds for fm? Are they easy enough to get? I think I'll just move onto other games until that's changed, if it ever will be
You can refund it on steam at least. Depends on when you bought it and how much you've played it, but they do take cases like yours in consideration.

2d all the way, I don't enjoy the graphics of 3d, and 2d gives me more information about what is going on. Shame they removed 2d and only have one option for 2d in 2018 as I really think the new one is so bulky.

Thanks for this. I agree. It's quite messy at the moment. But I am glad that it makes it harder to just stockpile talent and find it far to easy.
