Frankly, I'm surprised you've held onto Wells and haven't got rid already!

He is going in the bin this year, as I am sure you experienced I had a lot of players wanting new contracts and had an unhappy team at the start of the season.

Ah that's great, sounds like you're doing really well

How was Tyrese been for you? He suffered in his first season for being played in a non-suitable role, but since switching to the two up top he's really excelled in the poacher role.

Don't think he is doing too badly, he had a couple of poor games but for the most part has been going alright.

Wells is as wasteful as ever

  3. This is immense, just caught up on this as I have been focused on my City save and been busy with life. Like you, I managed to get promoted up to the EPL via the Play-Off's, basically won the last 6 games of the season and then comprehensively beat the Play-Off teams.

I have just hit the season break for the World Cup, in my first season in the EPL. I had started out playing a 4-4-1-1 Counter attack formation, but switched back to my 4-4-2 Wingplay/Counter which has been working well, went on a 6 game winning streak but just lost to City and Eveton. Sitting mid table. I also signed Tyrese Campbell, scouts recommended him and Stoke got relegated. I should survive this year I would imagine. Great to see how you are going.

  4. Man you are doing so well, I playing with City atm and am half way through the 1st season, am sitting in the top 6 because we are terribly inconsistent.  The strikers are absolutely horrendous, Wells is deadset ****, misses so many clear cut chances. Played Huddesfield recently and was completely in control, couldn't score for my life. Weimann has been decent though. Have purchased one striker but need to get more. Going to offload Wells and others with silly high wages.

  5. I need to read the entire thread (only read Page 1 as I meant to be working) but as a long term Bristol City fan and a season ticket holder during the days of Scott Murray and Akinbiyi and a like it's great to see people taking on the City challenge. I actually think that they are a really hard team to take control of and do something with. As you outlined in your first post, their strikers are absolutely woeful for the most part. I am doing a save at the moment and creating 3+ Goal Scoring Opportunities a game, but the amount of sitters Wells misses is truely unbelievable.

  6. Starting off with a 4312 Wide formation atm, it's too early to say if things are going to go well or not in the league, have only played a few friendlies which have gone well enough, kept cleansheets etc and retained possession, but we will see once the league starts.

I have changed some of the positions around, so play a Mezzala/CM combo currently and have some decent players to play that combo. My biggest concern is the AMC position, which I think is a Advanced Playmaker role, which I think I need to strengthen up a bit.

  7. Like you have been going through the same thing, (for years)

I have been taking the time to try and understand the player roles in more detail, been watching a lot of the BustTheNet videos and setting up my team. I have established my philosophy in how I want to play, which is I want to have a strong defence and maintain possession, recycle the ball etc. I have used what Daljit has posted around pressing traps and implemented that as well. Bottom line, I would rather win 2-0 and keep a clean sheet, than win 6-3 for example. Now Bristol City are not the best team in the league but that's who I am trying this with first and foremost.

It's a learning experience, but the principles are quite clear, I think as I progress I want to try and expand my knowledge and build different tactics, set up counter attacking tactics etc, keep things fresh.

  8. Hey all, need a recommendation on a tactic for my 2nd season in charge. I managed to get Bristol City promoted to the EPL via the playoff's, mainly using the Beta Warrier 4132 tactic, which scored plenty of goals, but it was a bit leaky in defence.

I am thinking I will try and play a 4-5-1 type formation, I am expected to get relegated, so basically looking to try and avoid that. Thought maybe the PreachinBlues tactics could work?  I can't play as attacking as what I did in the Championship as I suspect I will get murdered.

    Thoughts?

  9. This has been a great read so far, it's been almost 10 years since I have played FM, looking at my Steam account 08 was the last copy and I gave up as I always struggled with tactics, prior to that was a keen CM user and fan.

Using the 18 beta and keen to invest the time into the tactics and really understand them more, so this initial guide has been awesome and I need to start reading your blog. Cheers
