  1. I'm still playing FM21, so this might have been rectified. Every time I start to play in this competition, nearly every one my players has a red downward arrow (lacking sharpness). I know it's after a long, hard season, but surely you should be able to set up a couple of friendlies to get you players close to match fitness and a better hope of winning the competition?

That's the rub - you seem to have to quit to be approached for a club job* without touting yourself, otherwise all you can do is declare interest in open positions and see if there is any clapback from your owners or players. Then the issue is unless it's a top 10 team, you still need to quit because most teams don't want to pay to buy you out.

When I was messing about, RB Leipzig wouldn't offer me an interview until I quit, then I applied and got the job. IRL you think they might stump up a 5mil buyout or whatever it is.

*I'm in 2038 with Brighton and have won loads and have been approached by England and Portugal over the years to be national team manager.

In my ten seasons, I've never been offered a single job. Nor have any of my players been made player of the year or been nominated for a Ballon d'Or - despite being in EIGHT European finals in nine seasons (winning four Champions Leagues and one Europa League)!

    Kind of strange, no?

  3. I’ve been thinking: I’ve won the same amount of Champions League trophies as Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola.

Surely there should be a way of me touting my services to the crème de crème of European football, just as there is when you’re looking at player to sign with ‘Ask agent about availability’.

To be honest, I don’t want a PSG or Real Madrid; I want an interesting project, similar to when Roman Abramovich took over Chelsea or when Sheik Mansour too over Manchester City.

You can look to start a new managerial job at the end of the season, but I'm not sure exactly at what date in the season this becomes possible.

When it comes to getting sacked, I believe if you apply for a position at another club there may be a discussion with the chairperson about your future at the club. Its possible that could result in you getting sacked, but it has been a number of years since I've gone through this process.

    Thanks for the advice.

How far into January are you? I was screwing around to see about other jobs one season and reckon from Feb onwards it's a goer. So maybe even late Jan/after transfer window closes?

You can always split your save a this point and holiday to start of Feb apply for it and see what happens.

Edit: other threads seem to indicate late Jan

I’ve just gone past the January deadline day transfer window.

I did declare an interest in the job. When the press asked was I interested I gave a neutral answer; I then asked the owners to up the wage bill, but still no joy.

    We’ll see what happens…

  6. I'm in my tenth season with Manchester United and have an illustrious career with them - four Champions League titles (runner-up in three!), one Europa League, six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, six Carabao Cups, various Charity Shields, two European Super Cups, and one FIFA Club World Cup - but all of a sudden the new-ish owners, who make the Glazers look like saints, have become serious morons. They have cut the wage bill signaficantly and are offering me a new five-year contract - but with less wages! That's after my trophy-laden time at the helm. Plus I've got Old Trafford up to a 106,000 mega stadium.

Anyway, Chelsea are after a new manager and I wouldn't mind it... in the summer, as I'm currently well on my way to another league title (16pts clear), in the KO stages of the Champions League, and am in the fourth round of the FA Cup - a competiton where I've probably failed in during my nine seasons (had various cup shocks). My main aim is replicate Sir Alex's famous Treble - something I'm yet to accomplish - before I hand over the reins.

Is there a way of declaring an interesting in the job, but taking the job in the summer after negotiations (it's now January)?

I don't want the moronic new-ish owners to sack me before me completing my final season, and hopefully getting the Treble 2.0.

  7. I’m ten seasons into my Manchester United career, and I would like the option of changing my away kits every two years like in real life as it can get a bit mundane playing in the same away kits for ten years. It would be fun having a green and yellow kit as an away shirt for two years. Or the old black shirt.

It doesn’t matter about the home kit as United will always play in red.

  8. I pick a first-team player to play in an U23 game, but I change my mind.

How do I stop him playing the U23 game without having to drop him to the U23 squad, then putting him back into the first-team squad (as he will not now be available for the U23 game I originally intended him not be)?

This seems like the only way to do it, but my player loses morale.

    Thanks.

  9. I've signed Alexandre Lacazette on loan from Arsenal for my Manchester United team in the winter transfer window of 2022/23 and he's somehow not registered to play U18 and U23 matches (even friendlies an in-games)!? How am I supposed to get him fit - to be a back-up to my forwards - without throwing him into my team, who are mounting a treble bid, with his match sharpness in the red?

Given my third keeper in any save barely ever makes an appearance, I wouldn't spend any serious money. There may not be many half decent out of contract players available mid season but I'd just find an ageing keeper happy to be an emergency backup for a couple of seasons who wouldn't cost much. Someone like Hart or Ben Foster?

In the end I bought Sergio Asenjo from Villarreal for around £10m. A bit steep for a third-choice goalkeeper but he's a decent goalkeeper and is happy being an emergency back-up.

Tim Ronning - Should be cheap and young enough to develop.

Tom Heaton retired not long after I signed him, so I'm on the lookout for a new third-choice goalkeeper. I searched for Tim Ronning's name and nothing came up!?

Also, just before the transfer window shut, I was all set to buy Sam Johnstone from WBA for £10m and he was delighted to be my emergency back-up, but the deal went through as WBA couldn't find a replacement. Now they want £40m for him!? Jokers.

  12. I'm in the 2022/23 season with Manchester United, and after I let Edinson Cavani's contract run down - who was great for me (scored the winning goal in Champions League final in my first season against PSG!), but would've been nearly 37 at the end of this season - I bought Patrik Schick as a replacement of sorts. Anyway, when I signed him one of the promises was that I'd sign a great defender. I'd already pre-signed Raphael Varane to come in the summer and I'd thought that'd be enough (rusty on the game). But ever since the transder window has shut his morale has been akin to a petulant child.

Any ideas of how to get him back onside?

I think my defence is good. I have Harry Maguire, Pau Torres, Raphael Varane, Axel Tuanzebe, Victor Lindelof, Alex Telles (a revelation for me), Luke Shaw, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Plus I have Ethan Laird and Brandon Williams out on loan. And I have a re-gen who looks like he could be the new Rio Ferdinand coming through.

You'd think that Schick would trust me, as in my two seasons at Manchester United, I've won the Champions League and was runners-up last season; won the Premier League and was runners-up last season; won the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Community Shield; and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Tom Heaton, Ben Foster or Sam Johnstone who would also be classed as Home Grown as well.

Aren't Joel Perriera or Sivar not good enough to be 3rd choice ?

I went and bought Tom Heaton from Aston Villa for £1.1m as an emergency back-up before looking at this post. Great minds think alike.

    Thanks.
