  1. Am I the only person who finds this game the most inconsistent version of fm for years?

It doesn’t matter what I do tactically it doesn’t make a difference, one game I have 60%+ possession, 15+ shots, winning the ball back high up the pitch despite a normal press trigger and yet the next game it’s the complete opposite, my players can’t play a five yard pass, they lose out on every ball in the air, they hardly run around the pitch and the goalkeeper can’t hold a shot to save his life.

I don’t understand how the game can be so feast or famine with seemingly no differences in set ups from game to game, the opposition invariably use one of three formations but there’s no pattern to how these formations are affecting what I’m seeing, the mentality I use, the formation I use, the tactical style I use, don’t make a difference

I never expect these games to be easy, but at the very least you want to feel that you’re having an influence over what happens on the pitch, the way this is going currently I might as well just sim each season because the result feels like it would be the same no matter what

  2. So, I've been reading certain articles online about the writers' fm saves, and a popular trend - especially when managing in the premier league - is to disband the U23 team and set up a B-team model, taking more control of the B-team through friendlies rather than relying on your staff to manage and develop younger and unfit players.

    My question revolves around how?

I've just reached the end of the season with Southampton, and I want to try my hand at this model. When am I able to remove the U23s and how? Any help would be appreciated.

  3. I remember managing Fiorentina on fm20, still one of my favourite saves ever on fm, but I had signed Sandro Tonali at the start of my second season, getting in there after his IRL breakout season, hoping he would form the foundation of my team for years to come.

My philosophy of 90% of my saves is to try signing only U18s or established home grown talent, with the eventual aim of playing in Europe with a full 25 man squad of HG or CG talent.

This led me to pursuing Rolando Mandragora, who at this time was still at Juve. Due to the high reputation of Tonali, I had to agree to a £40m release clause to champions league teams, which was quickly snapped up by Inter after only one season. Needing a leader in the middle of the field, and by following the criteria above, Mandragora was an obvious choice.

However, he wouldnt join me, I guess hoping he would still make it at juve. I settled for an 18yo newgen hoping he would grow into my plans but who, as I cant remember his name, I'm guessing never lived up to my expectations.

After two more seasons, bringing me to my fifth season in florence and with european football now common for the club, I finally got Mandragora, who went on to quickly become club captain, maybe out of a sense of accomplishment from myself.

My favourite memory of his time at the club however, was when he scored in 17 consecutive games, starting with a season opener, with every goal coming from the spot.

You can disagree but there's an element of management involved. Punching 3-4 places above my weight (including being far above what's expected for the CL) this was the final matches of the season.

Sorry, are you playing as PSV? Losing to ajax but being good against everyone else is hardly what I'd call "punching 3-4 places above [you're] weight" when you're already the second best team in the league...

  5. Just a quick question, I usually avoid monthly fees on loans if I can, especially when the fees increase if I’m not playing the player, however clubs seem to be more stubborn about it on this years game.

Essentially, all I want to know is how often I need to play the loan player to avoid the unused fee, which is currently set at double the standard monthly fee.

  6. I once had a tycoon buy my Fiorentina team 10 years into my save, I had turned them into the top team in Italy and the new board spent a combined 200m on two players who didnt fit my tactics or philosophy at all.

Had to resort to buying the editor and making the players hate Fiorentina so that they'd turn the contracts down.

It took me more than 15 years (in game) to improve from my reputation from half star to three star. lol

14 games is not even the start. :-D

I understand that my reputation as far as how other clubs view me wouldn't improve so soon, however I had hoped my players might be slightly more on board by now!

  8. I just have a question around how long it takes before you begin to see your levels of manager support rise within the dressing room.

In order to give myself more of a challenge, I began my save at Fiorentina with the top coaching badges but with the reputation of a semi-pro. Naturally, my support from the players began as very low.

After 14 games I am 3rd, I have won 9, drawn 3 and lost two, putting me 3 points off top. The two defeats came against the two teams above me, Lazio and Inter, and I have beaten teams such as Roma, AC Milan and Juventus, as well as winning the Appennino derby against Bologna. I am yet to play Empoli in the Arno derby and I am still in the Italian Cup.

With all this in mind, it seems strange to me that my support from the players has dropped rather than improved, with no real reason as to why. As far as the board are concerned, I am achieving their desires in terms of tactics and transfers, and their only concern with my management is my low support from the players.

I've never started a save with a low reputation in this way before, so I don't know if I'm just being impatient, but I'd appreciate hearing of anyone's experience with the matter.

  9. Obviously with the uncertainty in the last few years around Brexit and how that would affect work permit rules, I was wandering how fm22 will be tackling this.

On fm21, it's clear SI had a solid idea of what work permit rules would look like due to the fact that, as far as I'm aware, they seemed to be the same in every save. These rules made it impossible to sign players from certain EU countries if you were in the EFL or Scotland, where you need to be on the lookout for bargains constantly, and these players would never meet to requirements for a work permit.

However, we are now in a new season (2021-22), and clubs in real life dont seem to be having these issues, clubs in the championship seem to have no issue signing players from Europe, players who arent regulars for their clubs - or if they are, they're clubs or league are low reputation - nor are they established internationals for high rep nations.

Hopefully this means a slackening of work permit rules in the upcoming game, registration rules I agree with and wholeheartedly understand, but if clubs arent being made to suffer through constant work permit denials in real life, then neither should we in the game.

  10. Ever since I have been playing these games, attacking full backs with good crossing stats have been a staple of my teams, where my other desires roles and tactics have changed, as well as desired attributes, the one thing I look for more than most is a full back who can cross (at least 10-12 rating for crossing is my aim)

As someone who loves to spend time bringing 18 year olds into the starting squad to replace the elder players moving on, whether that be through the academy or reinvesting transfer money, the one thing that becomes my biggest struggle is finding my beloved full backs.

After a while, all the newgens start off with a range of 3-7 for crossing, which immediately puts me off, I know these will grow in time, but what are the odds that they actually develop into players worth my time. Even with the genie scout, these young players have potentials of 10 for crossing, it's the one position that never seems to develop enough to keep my strategy alive

  11. I once had this whilst managing Fiorentina, who added this to the club vision once I'd managed to win the champions league, I didnt want to do this at all as I was focusing on only signing 18 year olds, who obviously wouldnt have had high reputations.

However, my board randomly became delighted at my efforts to sign 'high reputation players' after signing an 18 year old midfielder from Celtic by activating his 7m release clause.

Dont ask me to explain why this happened because I never figured it out, but I did learn that it seemed to be mental and completely random

  12. I want to add my Borussia Dortmund B team to 3.Liga because they don't currently play any competitive games except for the U23 International Premier Division.

Is there any way to do this via the editor, or failing that, creating a U23 league? (I don't want to say U23 European Super League but that's what I have in mind)

  13. I've just noticed a strange situation with the German national team. I'm currently in the year 2026 managing Dortmund and I noticed my 25 year old, £63Million valued, starting right back, Josha Vagnoman, has 0 caps for the national team. Out of curiosity I checked the squad to see who was keeping him out, only to discover the entire squad was made up of greyed out new-gens, which I call placeholder players, normally seen when a squad not in the database doesn't have enough real players loaded in.

Furthermore, the German team doesn't show up on the Job Centre or Job Security pages. They also still have a vast majority of well known German players to choose from, such as Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner or Leroy Sane.

I also checked this immediately before, and immediately after the team was due to play a world cup qualifier against Latvia, which they won, whilst not having any real players in the squad.

I was wandering if anyone else has seen anything similar, I haven't posted this as a bug as I'm sure it's most likely to be something I've done.

  14. I have recently started the 2025/26 season with Dortmund. I have just hired a new manager for my B team due to my previous one moving on. This is the second manager I've had for the B team since the start of the save and for the previous 5 seasons my B team has used the same tactics as my first team.

However, now the tactic has changed from a flat 4-3-3 to a cautious 5-3-2, a formation that doesn't fit any of the players in my B squad that I've spent my time building with an eye on bring players into my first team throughout the seasons. The formation isn't even the first or second favourite of the new manager or even the previous one as I made sure to hire a manager who fits my style.

I've tried taking control of all tasks and delegating all tasks and both leave me greyed out, I've deleted all other tactics so that my 4-3-3 is the only option for the team and even though i have that tactic selected, the tactic is still set up for the 5-3-2, I've even tried sacking the manager to take even more control over the team and this gives me no luck either. I've tried everything I can think of and nothing has worked.

  15. I find it really hard to settle on a team in the first month or so of every new game, there's too many teams floating around in my head that I want to have a look at, I make it about 3 or 4 games into a save and then get distracted by thoughts of how I could use the squad of a certain team to play a certain tactic, the furthest I've made it Into a save is November with PSV but I've started 4 saves since I last played that, however I know I'll go back to PSV at some point as they've been my favourite team to manage since fm13

  16. With it being the international break, I was was wandering what kind of players you've seen or had that changed nationalities and became a key player for that chosen national team.

I have two that come to mind immediately from fm19.

Firstly, when I was managing PSV, Angelino, the left back who since resigned for City irl, after five seasons for me in Holland switched allegiances from Spain to the Netherlands, plugging one of the few gaps I believe that national squad has

Secondly, whilst managing Man Utd, I signed Alex Telles and gave him a clause in his contract doubling his wage from 60k to 120k after he made 5 appearances for his national side, thinking that he wouldn't get many games ahead of Brazil's other left backs... However, almost immediately he had switched to represent Italy and had made 5 appearances by the middle of November

  17. I'm not an arsenal fan, so I didnt see the point of purchasing the special arsenal edition of fm20, however, I read somewhere that the arsenal team would still be licensed in the normal version of the game which increased my interest in managing the team in the beta, however from the off I noticed that the badge is an FM generated badge rather than the iconic badge of arsenal.

Does anyone know the extent of the licensing available for arsenal in the game? Will it be available in the full game after the beta period? Or was the information wrong?
