But I don't want to get a season or sin and have to start over.

I do intend to pick up the (new) game again at some point, and the above is the reason why I won't start the challenge on a Beta version. That, and I'm still not over having got through 10+ years difficult years in Belarus to find out my team wasn't eligible for European competitions. I look forward to joining you all eventually, though. No idea which country I'll start in.

FIFA should modernize their tournament planning heading into the future...  when researching the perfect amount of teams for the 2026 World Cup, they've only looked at the way they could distribute teams over groups... nobody thought of another structure than the one that's been in place since 90 years ago?

I would absolutely LOVE a tournament structure like this experiment you have (expertly) put together, but how likely is it that FIFA will re-consider if they (and sponsors) continually make money with the current methods? Money comes first, unfortunately. If you do write that evaluation post, I'll definitely give it a read! This experiment has even given me inspiration on how to implement this for work FIFA/Mario Kart competitions. ps. Hoping for Sweden to secure qualification with 3 points against Ghana!

I imagine (like in the actual tournament AFAIK) there would be an actual coin flip if Fair Play Points couldn't determine a winner of the tie?

Yeah, I imagined that too. The scenario is (probably) unlikely with the addition of an FPP tiebreaker. I wonder what would happen if more than two teams were tied!

Players who were signed by the new chairman have gone; 0 minutes played. It's a shame because one of them could've been useful as my main striker - yup - you guessed it, the board sold the promising striker I had. If we'd manage to keep him, a better season might have been reported. Not much else happening, except another update to the Youth Coaching and getting some more coaching badges. On to next season! This years youth intake looks good, and I'm excited to see Robert Cretnik 22b develop into a solid center back: determined, aggressive, brave and resolute (John Terry?)

Little bit of clarification first regarding the transfers: one was arranged before I joined, and the other two were from the board takeover (yes, already) previously posted. They have not played a game; nor have I been able to sell them yet. Happy with the first season in Slovenia. It's incredibly competitive though, as you can see from the league table there's not much difference between the teams. This was evident that despite being favourites for relegation, the odds of doing so were only @ 17.00. I was lucky my 8 players were mostly defensively based and I was able to play defensively in ALL games. Youth intake is promising - especially Patrik Spudic 21a - who has scored 5 in 4 games already. Not sure what it is with me getting some nice strikers in the first intake - long may it continue!

It's like in France, you can see the lowest league, but you can't play in it. You have to start this challenge in the 2nd division. The good thing is, when you got relegated , and don't get sacked, you can keep on playing. ;)

Learnt something new today, thanks! I just feel that would go against the spirit of the challenge somewhat, because I wouldn't be at the lowest league to begin with.

  7. After being unable to complete my attempt in Belarus - through no fault of my own - I'm currently loading up Romania as my next destination. Got the itch to play again with summer vacation fast approaching, and seeing the challenge being completed! There's 3 official tiers playable in the game, but literally dozens of regional divisions in the 4th tier; so, I could go going anywhere. Fingers crossed there's a sleeping giant with good facilites already at that depth!

Edit: will pick another country since for some reason I can't choose a 3rd tier team to manage.

  8. FC DNEPR MOGILEV / ON HOLD

    image.thumb.png.bd0573608d83f0f22170cff29dc0bfa7.png

Well, SI Games have confirmed that Dnepr Mogilev are "listed as ineligible for European football, likely to do with the reformation they have undergone as a club in the last couple of years." - meaning that I'm in a position where I cannot continue this challenge. I've enjoyed playing in Belarus and got an attachment to the players that have come through. So, I will stay in Belarus for the time being and have just become manager of BATE Borisov, who are not dominant anymore. The journey here continues, just with a different and unexpected ending.

Good luck to everyone still progressing in their saves. I will keep watching and cheering you and your successes on from a distance! :)

Any ideas why I have not been able to qualify for Europe? Looked everywhere and can't see any reason why I wouldn't be able to...

Searched the forum and it's happened to someone else with the same team - looks like this challenge is over for me - because I won't be investing another minute into the save until I know there's a fix.

    :(

  10. FC DNEPR MOGILEV / UPDATE

So, I have an issue. The next season into this project has ended and - spoiler alert - finished in 3rd. This is a Euro Cup II qualification space in Belarus. However, when looking at the table and the season overview: the teams in 1st, 2nd and 4th have all qualified for Europe; but I have not. Additionally, when checking the Belarusian Cup rules - spoiler alert - we're in the semi finals; I look at the rules there and see that FC Dnepr Mogilev are an exclusion team and ineligible for Euro Cup II, should we win the cup. At the end of the season, the board stated they were very happy having secured European qualification, yet I have not received any confirmation of this via the inbox. Confusing.

  11. FC DNEPR MOGILEV / SEASON 9 / COMPETITIONS / TRANSFERS / FINANCES

    image.thumb.png.baffbe878a1aff06e035f94a4b3cd3fd.png

What a season! We finished 4th after being a really improved side, having kept (most) of our better players. Amazingly we won the first 7 games in a row, before a few bumps in the road. However, it is (23m) Artur Boltrushevich that's setting this league on fire - winning the striker of the year, along with top-scorer for the league. With each season he's improving and no-one seems to want to buy him (yet), so, I figure he's in that CA/PA sweet spot where he's class, but not expected to develop too much. In other news, BATE Borisov nearly got relegated; they had to win the last 3 games to avoid a playoff! I truly was expecting some PSG style dominance from them! Our finances are very bad, but at the time of writing, our board just cleared most of it away. Unfortunately, we're losing our 4* CA goalkeeper on a free transfer; he opted to sign for another team. Next season might be more of a struggle and I'm trying not to let this freak season get into my, or my players, heads just yet!

Depending on the cup winner, we might sneak into the Euro Cup II qualifying. I'm not expecting it since two of the teams play against each other in the quarter finals (played at start of next season).

Youth intake, though, was another success!

    image.thumb.png.d67c5c04e1a2adf8649e222db0522c8c.png

This season saw some improvements in our performances (results, not goals conceded!); and we survived another year in the Highest League. We went on a rocky patch halfway through since we lost our 4 best players to the U19 World Championship (or similar); we lost 8 in a row. The decline was steadied upon their return. They somehow remain at the club, despite many bids coming in. The youth intake brings in a new CB straight into the first team. Onwards and upwards?

    image.thumb.png.fb763266c579d30210105a9f06e837fa.png

First season in the Belarusian Highest League was a success; in that we survived against all odds! I don't think we were that good, it's just that there are worse teams than us. The finances are looking terrible (-£300k) because of the expensive youth setup and that there were no transfers out with monetary value. The off-season will be another clear out of players that will not make it (and who are on contracts/have poor personalities). Although the youth intakes are not looking special, there are some players who definitely make the grade almost immediately - I even had players on loan who have developed into contenders. Will be a long time before my finances are in a good enough place to upgrade any further. Just got to keep staying in this league and praying to the FM gods for some special 5* CA players. Speaking of which, (20a) Igor Savostjanov - who we got in the first intake - is now Belarus's all-time top goalscorer. Was impossible to keep him, obviously.
