Neil talked about the ME last year, and got blasted for it. Even in your post you've made assumptions and judgements already (ive bolded it). So why, in all honesty, would they bother?

That's not even getting into the fact that it's simply not good marketing.

Again, and its been said quite a lot; the forum user base is not a majority of the actual user base. There's an often inflated view of what the forum represents in the grand scheme of things. And the number of posters in GD are a minority of the number of actual members.

Even then there  are those who do want new features (and when you consider the requests thread, and the number of features in the pipeline from Miles, theres a lot of people who want new features), and beyond that SI also have their ideas of what they want to add. Further, when you consider that Miles is talking about features specifically requested by members, it's perhaps a little bit silly to say they are largely a irrelevancy. I don't mean to be harsh, but its really not all about this forum, there's a much bigger base beyond that. Which is why they do so much on social media. That's not to dismiss the much good things the forum offers, but we should wary of believing the forum is representative of the fanbase, or can speak for the fanbase

From memory... he got blasted for saying things like "this is the best ME ever" when after several patches the problems that existed on release persisted despite all the bug reports.

There's way to market a ME upgrade. Mourinho's out of work, get him involved like they did with Hodgson previously.

Changes to the ME is kept separate and there will be news and videos much closer to release when they get closer to the ME version that is locked for release.

Miles has said on Twitter that they are still working on it, so it’s very difficult to see how there won’t be changes and/or improvements.

Yeah, I'm just saying that these new features aren't great leaps forward compared to previous releases, so I'm hoping that more has gone into the ME.

I do wonder why these are not on the official football manager twitter, but on Miles his personal one. Its just not the right place it seems, Also lets just say that PR wise that is a better idea given Miles his comments sometimes.

Also spreads the features to much more people.

It's probably because they're quite minor things mainly 'in depth' players will be interested in.

  4. When they say "headline features"... does it mean that these (development centre etc.) are the biggest changes in 2020?

I couldn't care less about new features, the amount in there at present is great. I just hope they've significantly improved the match engine. 2019 was released with very problematic strikers; through balls; crossing etc etc and most of the ME problems couldn't be fixed in the patches.

I notice from screenshots so far that the TC has remained largely unchanged. I don't have a problem with this, providing the ME has been improved so that a) a broader range of distinctive play-styles are achievable, and b) players actually carry out your instructions. The most important areas to address are:

    • Pressing - This needs a major overhaul to bring it into line with how teams press in reality. It needs to be much more coordinated with an actual strategy underpinning it (i.e triggers, cutting off passing lanes and what to do if the initial press is beaten). We still have a headless chicken approach with multiple players closing down on identical planes / angles. Quality AI teams also need to be much more effective at beating a press, especially if they possess technically sound defenders. It is also far too easy to execute a high LOE + counter-press strategy; especially when you don't have players with the required attributes.

    • Movement - Attacking movement off the ball in the final third remains inadequate. Lateral movement, quick one-twos, layoffs and general forward passes were severely inhibited this year (inflating passes to the flanks which leads me to my next point).

    • Crossing - One of the very worst aspects of FM19. Wingers and full-backs with clear opportunities to cross tend to dribble towards defenders, who block the attempt (driving up set piece numbers to unrealistic levels).

    • AI Mentality - It's been talked to death, but they are simply too negative, deep and narrow. Decent sides will frequently stick 11 men behind the ball for the entire match; even when 'chasing' a single goal deficit late on. Good sides do not commit enough players in attacking transitions, and there are quite clearly not enough players assigned an attack duty. The end result means any clearance comes straight back with interest (resulting in 90 minutes of camping boredom).

    • Bizarre heading - The propensity of defenders heading the ball into key danger areas, when if left, would simply go harmlessly out of play, needs to be radically turned down.

Even if just the above were addressed, it would make the game more fun and challenging.

Yes. It's inevitable that most people on here are going to be more ME focussed and thus feature-fatigued than the average player. Result being that the annoucements so far just annoy a lot of folks in light of things like the abv...

This screenshot worries me a bit.

Why would the goalkeeping coach suggest to the manager what team he thinks they should put out? Has this ever happened in the history of football?

A local coach here was goalkeeper coach for Melbourne Victory and has now just won "division 2" as a head coach.

It all depends on whether the AI is any good. More than likely the suggestions will be poor.
