unfortunately, during the time when incompetent designers were working, the skin's code turned into a mess and sometimes reacts strangely to obvious changes. this is especially true for colors. personally, I’ve encountered cases where there was no response to a directive like colour="custom colour", but it worked perfectly with colour="red" (or another "standard" value) or colour=rgb(x,x,x). it has also become a "common" practice to create a new class or font when the existing one doesn’t respond to color changes

I don't like the background without texture. it looks somehow sterile and dead. maybe on dark skin it's not so striking, on dark skin it's a disaster with aesthetics in general, but a light skin with a monotonous background looks boring.

Your problem is not with the color of the text, but with the wrong color for the background of a neutral comment. if you make the text black, it will look fine on a neutral background, but it will look terrible on a green or red background.
