  1. The game is aimed at casuals. Threads talking about how easy the games have become are commonplace, normally 1-2 threads on the front page of the forum, but we're just a small minority of the players so business-wise it doesn't make sense to develop a harder mode. Just wish they gave more tools to modders so that the game can be tweaked more.

  2. Has anyone form Sigames ever talked about this subject? My view at the moment is that the people who find this game too easy are too small of a minority tor really matter. 95% love playing it.

Unfortunately I stopped playing this version after I found myself urging on the AI side to beat/challenge me.

Ease of Squad Building and Ease of raising moral aside, I don't see how both sets of players can be satisfied without having a hard/realistic mode. Making the game harder would only alienate the casual players who are the vast vast majority.

  3. Main issue with all this is that the game is more popular than it has ever been. So those of us finding the game "easy" are in the tiny minority. There will also be a group of players who find the game too hard as well, which is why a single difficulty level can't cater to everyone and from a business point of view, seeing this iterations popularity, Sigames have set the difficulty just right.

The game should be difficult at every level, whether you choose to manage the likes of Liverpool or LLM, each should pose there own set of challenges. Agree with all above, moral too easy to boost and maintain. 4-2-3-1 gegen OP and building a really strong squad and maintaining doesn't present much of a challenge.

  4. I cancelled my pre-order after getting Fulham in the top-6 in my first season. Feels like FM20, once you get the ball rolling you pretty much win on auto pilot.

The game needs a hard mode, impossible to cater for the entire player base on the game’s base level.

But all that will happen is people will accuse those saying It’s easy of cheating / playing with the best teams.

  5. Pretty much have come to realisation that the game will probably be as easy last last season after playing out the Beta some more, seems just as easy to maintain perfect moral throughout the year - same praise player for training etc - The new additions are cool, new ME plays better and for the vast majority of players its a good upgrade.

But rather than expend any more energy on it, I've gotten a refund and will be checking out of FM for a while.

  6. I'm glad this is being brought up more and more of late. Been a long time player of FM and I've felt the game get a whole lot more easy over the past 2 years.

I brought this years one and played the beta and am cruising in the Premier League with Fulham playing a fluid 433 counter, no crazy custom tactic, just the one in game.

Making the game harder will put the majority of FM players off, which is why a hard mode is the only logical step. Playing with Man Utd should not be an easy job, saying manage lower leagues doesn't change anything, it's not harder, just takes longer to get to the top.

  7. I get the feeling FM20's match engine was meant to be different but after the one-on-one and endless balls over the top of the defence problem, they patched it up to a point where it worked without being great. The first version of the ME kind of made sense as if you played a high press system the ball over the top would get you, it was just way OP and then the one-on-one issue meant strikers were missing crazy amounts of chances.

In its most recent iteration, the ME just seems a bit stiff, very few through balls etc, lots of the goals scored feel similar, the way full backs cross to each other looks a bit unnatural too.

  8. Yh agree on the player morale issue, once the players are happy its really easy to maintain and go on really long unbeaten runs, outperforming teams superior to your own.

Second major issue is how easy it is to put together an amazing squad of players due to the 48 month financing options and poor AI. Ended up signing Tonali for Crutone for about £8mil with absolutely no competition.

Also, outside of match engine stuff. Another thing that makes the game easy is the lack of a competitive transfer market.

Along with things like fatigue and injuries not being at its full strength. We need an option to use realistic injuries and fatigue. This is a big part of managing a football team...

A lot can be done out of the match engine to make it more realistic / harder. How transfers and budgets work for example, can spin a 15mil budget into crazy figures using monthly instalments, end up spending massive amounts with small teams, none of this happens in real life.

Also, young players are just too good, it's all too easy to scout the next crop of good players, buy them all and dominate however, its actually very rare for a team of under 23 year olds to dominate a league.

  10. If  you have to set personal restrictions then the game is too easy IMO. I've ended up doing the same with transfers fee instalments. After three seasons I'm comfortably in the top 4 in the Serie A with Crotone, outplaying the likes of Juventus and Inter with a squad which is far inferior. (No cheating, downloaded tactics of Set-pieces).

As several people have stated above, FM has been going for decades and therefore has lots of experienced long-term players, would love to see a harder mode added.

  11. Im not sure if previous games were like this but I find on FM20, once you put together a decent squad you suddenly start dominating games against much much better teams.

So I'm currently playing with Crotone, first season was a good challenge keeping them up, and second season was a good challenging securing a safe finish. However, third season now after getting a couple decent transfers in and a few months of getting the tactics & selection in place I'm suddenly dominating vs all the mid-table / top half sides, and even had 60% possession vs Champions Juventus as well as out performing Inter. Year after Im challenging for UCL positions, games vs mid table and top half are a breeze.

And this is the point where I stop playing the save as it feels silly that my Crotone team can be dominating vs the leagues best. There either needs to be a better balancing in place, or difficulty levels introduced. As I said earlier, I understand SI have to cater to the casual players who are 90% of the player base but please give the more experienced players a challenge too.

    P.S. I don't find/download tactics online etc

  12. No came can cater for all players at a single difficulty level, this is why the majority of games have difficulty levels included. If SI make the base game harder it'll alienate new & casual gamers.

There are countless ways to make things like assembling a good squad, managing that squad and keeping your job harder without touching the Match Engine.

  13. FM20 was the first time I was genuinely disappointed with a Football Manager game, for the first couple months, up until the match-engine update in Jan or feb (if I remember correctly) the game was unplayable.

That said, despite the rocky start, value for money wise it's hard to complain about buying a FM game. Will most probably end up buying FM21, but will wait to see if the ME is solid on release.

People still think that FM is a realistic simulation game and treat it as such. Do you guys know a manager that doesn't take part in team training? Do you know a manager that goes and negotiates every little detail about a player's contract? Like how many pounds he is going to earn by scoring a goal or playing an international game? Yeah, that's what I thought. There are things in the game to make it FUN and not realistic. And that's ok, because games are meant to be fun.

As Miles said in an interview once, the game was created to put you in charge of your favorite team, but unlike other games, the world around you would be alive. Evolving, and trying to simulate real life. And that is what it does to this day and it does it better than anybody else. The problem is, the AI world is too easy to exploit and the managing of your team is also too easy to perfect. It's easy even for the casuals. We've already read so many stories of people having it too easy. FM has always been a bit on the easy side once you learn how it works, but in recent years it has gotten way easier. The balance is off!

People will always complain. If the game is too hard the forum will be flooded with topics about it. New players will constantly complain and you can never satisfy 100% of the people. This is why many games include difficulty settings - so more people can enjoy the game depending on their skill. I hate to break it to you guys, but this is A GAME! And games are designed to be fun. For some people it's fun to win, win, win and move on. For some people fun is lose, lose, lose and figure out how to win. Both of these types of players are important and the devs should aim to satisfy both.

Okay, including a difficulty setting is not practical for FM and we already have ways to increase difficulty ourselves, but that doesn't fix the main issue. So either the game needs to be more balanced in general or keep it easy the way it is now and include an option to make it harder for the people that want a challenge.

Right know we can't even agree if the game is too easy or too hard because people are different. So give us a way to customize the game the way we want, so everybody can enjoy it. It's time to evolve, being stuck in the same mindset for many years doesn't leave room for evolution. I know it's hard, but change is good.

Totally agree with all here ... aside from mangers taking part in training after watching the Jose Mourinho docu :D.

.l "Hey, I completed FM on hard mode. Check me out! I've now unlocked a secret vault of regens - wahoo!"

The current FM game is an arcade version of football, and that’s what makes it fun.

Having an extreme mode would just make adjustments to make the game more life like and In turn offer a challenge to the longer term players. Not sure why it’s being turned into some competition, this is a single player game, who cares if some play on an “hard” mode?

Also as it would be totally optional I don’t see how it detracts from base FM. As for bugs etc, the majority of games have difficulty levels, FM had a classic mode back in 14 which was a streamlined version of the game.
