  1. Poole Town – Season 20 (2043/44) Premiership. A great season; we were right in the thick of the title race all of a sudden and top with 4 games to go. Then of course we go and lose 5-1 at home to Arsenal (despite "winning" the xG) who leapfrog us into first place. But all is not lost, it turns out, a couple of slip ups by City and Arsenal put us back top with 1 game to go, all we have to do is beat Stoke (who have been our bogey team, to be fair) away. Sure enough, we go 1-0 up but they equalise in the 95th minute - however, luckily both City and Arsenal messed up so we ended up winning the league! (on goal difference, with a rather measly 83 points) Europe Some great performances in the CL group stage, but the pace of games took its toll in the spring and we lost out to Real Madrid in the quarters. Players Jacob Bibby 12a (AMRLC/ST) is very much the star man, with 5 England caps to his name. Jamie Thomas 14a (AMRL) was the surprise of the season, bursting into the first team after several years out on loan, and making the left-wing spot his own. A big shout out to our captain Paul Barrow 04b (DR/AMRC), an attacking mid who I had to retrain as rightback in Vanarama South, has been with us through all the divisions, and since I still don't have many decent right backs he managed 13 games in the PL with an average rating of near 7, more than justifying his PL winner's medal. Two players on the NxGn list so we still have room to improve. Youth intake (preview): A pretty good intake with 4 elite talents, nobody really stands out in terms of CA or personalities so I'll have to wait and see how they develop. Facilities No change, but got a few affiliate clubs to recruit foreign youngsters. Transfers: nothing of note. 2. Poole Town – Season 19 (2042/43) Premiership. A much better season for us as we finished 5th and qualfied for the Champions League for the first time. Players Jacob Bibby 12a (AMRLC/ST) has developed into a top player, and our striker Caolan Maguire (AMRL/ST) had a great season despite not being a top player, scoring 22 goals. Kevin Smith 15a (AMRLC/ST) won the NxGn award but he's not very good, and Isaac Diallo 17a (DL/M/AML) finished 12th on the wonderkid list, and he is very good. Youth intake (preview): A promising-looking intake with a good striker prospect and very good personalities across the board. Facilities The board suddenly volunteered to upgrade youth facilties and I duly obliged. Transfers: nothing of note. 3. True, if I look at his attributes as a DM he already looks pretty decent. I'm really well stacked with DMs though and a bit short on center backs, so let's see how much that jumping stat can improve with age.
  4. Poole Town – Season 18 (2041/42) Premiership. Another season of mid-table mediocrity, I don't half mind that. We were actually within reach of the European positions at the end of the season, but 2 defeats in the last 2 games saw us slip down to 9th, just outside of the euro spots. Cups: a very good FA cup run, the highlight being beating league runners-up Newcastle away in the quarters - but we narrowly lost to Man U in the semis. Players A few more youngsters entering the team now, Jacob Bibby 12a (AMRLC/ST) was touted as the next Michael Owen and is finally ready for the first team after a few seasons on loan, and Matthew Yakubu 13e (DC) gave us some mich needed pace at the back. Last intake's Isaac Diallo 17a (DL/M/AML) ain't half bad either, making the left back spot his own and making our first ever entry on the NxGn wonderkids list. Youth intake (preview): Overall a disappointing intake, a short defender and another goalie (I have about 4 high-PA keepers now) as top prospects, and not much else. Facilities We had a board takeover but they're still refusing youth facility upgrades despite wanting to develop the best youth system in the country, I wonder how that's going to go. Transfers: sold off quite a few older squad players, including club legend Sean Young 02b (AMC/ST) who managed 125 goals and 112 assists in 489 league games for us, but I wanted to give the youngsters space to develop. 5. @fries amazing, great stuff! Very efficient to get it done in England in 19 seasons; I have quite a few more to grind I think ))
  6. Poole Town – Season 17 (2040/41) Premiership. Our second season in the Premier league was one of consolidation - the start was quite ropey but we steadied the ship towards the middle of the season, and finished comfortably in midtable, 2 places and 6 points above last season's showing. Cups: Some good performances in the FA cup, but Tottenham knocked us out in extra time in the quarters. Players Our first wonderkid (for a brief spell of about few months) keeper James Wynter 12e was the difference this season, we didn't underperform our xG by nearly as much as last season, thanks largely to him (as our strikers are still rubbish). Winger Jamie Owen 09a had a good season in attack with 10 goals and 8 assists. Overall the players are developing nicely, with many attacking prospects coming to the fore. Defense is still looking quite light, resulting in some very exciting games. Youth intake (preview): The preview had me very excited, and the intake didn't disappoint, Isaac Diallo 17a (DL/M/AML) is a real beast and goes straight into our starting 11, thanks partly to the complete absence of decent leftbacks in the squad. Quite a few of the other players look very good too, the only slightly disappointing thing are the personalities. Facilities Maxed out training facilities, guess just got to wait it out until that youth facility upgrade becomes available. Transfers: nothing of note. 7. Poole Town – Season 16 (2039/40) Premiership. A solid first season in the top flight, we managed to avoid relegation and even finished roughly in midtable. Our form was very erratic though, going up as high as 5th in mid December and only recording 4 more league wins in the remainder of the campaign, I sure hope it's not a sign of things to come next year. Players Our attackers underperformed this season, and midfielder Dylan Sultana 12c (DM/MC/AMC) was key, glueing together the side and nothching up 9 goals in the process, while center back Mike Foy 09c (DC) helped keep things tight at the back. Youth intake (preview): A good intake with a very promising looking goalie Mehdi Mas 16a and a decent striker prospect Ben Austin 16b, but the personalities are pretty poor. Facilities A youth and training facility upgrade, plus a small stadium expansion. Transfers: nothing of note. 8. Poole Town – Season 15 (2038/39) Championship. We were brilliant from start to finish, notching up win after win and sealing promotion in March. Cups A great FA cup run saw us turn over Arsenal in the quarters, and underservedly get knocked out by Wolves in the semis - we're ready for the Premier league it seems. Players Jamie Owen 09a (AMRL) had an awesome season even by his high standards, with 16 goals and 19 assists across all comps. We also have a new young star in Maltese international Dylan Sultana 12c (DM/MC/AMC), who got 11 goals and 10 assists from various midfield positions. Our striker problems continue but Kevin Rhodes (AMRL/ST) unexpectedly was very effective upfront this season, developing well and scoring 25 goals - not bad for a player who was rated fourth-worst in our league 1 intake, and who I only signed because of his personality. Youth intake (preview): A good intake which should hopefully fill the void up-front - Kevin Smith 15a (AMRC/ST) is labelled the next Michael Owen, and Danny Owen 15c (MC/AMC/ST) also looks like a handful. Facilities We upgraded our training facilities, and after promotion the board even approved a youth facility upgrade. Some weird stadium expansion plans which will add seats but reduce capacity for £4.1m are underway, seems like a complete waste of money to me but there will be plenty of it to go round in the premiership. 9. Poole Town – Season 14 (2037/38) Championship. We were in the play-off spots throughout most of the season, and finished 5th. Despite a bad run of form in April / May, we started playing well just as the playoffs arrived, and managed to edge out Fulham by an odd goal in the semi final (largely thanks to our keeper's heroics, which included saving a penalty in the second leg). In the final against Bristol City, we managed to pull it back to 2-2 after being 2-0 down, but they edged us out 3-2 in extra time. So another season in the Championship beckons, I don't really mind as our squad is nowhere near ready enough for the premier league. Players Jamie Owen 09a (AMRL) is still our best player, and Sean Young 02b (AMC/ST) is still overperforming massively relative to his attributes, with 8 goals and 12 assists this season. We have a new starting keeper in Samuel Wallis 09b, who hop[efully will develop more and did his best to get us promoted with his playoff semi-final heroics this season, alas it wasn't quite enough. Youth intake (preview): A relatively poor intake but Jamie Thomas 14a (AMR) looks like he could go far despite only having a 3.5-4.5 PA rating. Facilities The youth facility upgrade option has disappeared, as usual, but the money keeps coming in, and we managed to order another training facility upgrade. Transfers: nothing of note. 10. Congrats on completion @Daddy, really enjoyed your updates and the tactical insights too!
  11. Poole Town – Season 13 (2036/37) Championship. I thought we might suffer second season syndrome as our form in the beginning was pretty atrocious, but as the youngsters developed throughout the year we hit a very strong run and almost made the play-offs, finishing one place outside in 7th. Cups We made it to the league cup quarter final, and the fifth round of the FA cup. Players Jamie Owen 09a (AMRLC) hit double figures for both goals and assists this season, and Ronan Richardson 10a (DMC) is developing very nicely but his performances are not amazing since he's always wanting out of the club. In general we look very strong in midfield and pretty good in defense, with Baily Turl 10c (DRL/DM) the latest addition to the first-team roster. We do look a bit light in the attacking department - I wish I didn't retrain all those winger prospects as fullbacks those season ago when I had no defenders, as now the squad situation has reversed a bit. In general quite a few of our players are now rated League 1 or Championship quality with PL potential, as opposed to some VNL level players we had in the first team just a couple of seasons ago. Youth intake (preview): Ever since putting my HOYD back in charge (thanks @WhiteCat33!), we keep getting strong intakes, 4 elite talents this time, nobody first-team ready but a good spread of positions and ok personalities. Facilities A £4.8m end-of-season solidarity payment allowed us to upgrade training and youth facilities again. Transfers: nothing of note. 12. Poole Town – Season 12 (2035/36) Championship. We started the season with a gentle slide towards the relegation zone, but then our luck changed completely in December, when we faced most of our fellow relegation strugglers and managed to win 5 in 7. The turning point was a 3-1 win against bottom-of-the-table West Brom, who managed to miss 2 penalties in that game, and after that we just went on a roll and finished the season nowhere near relegation, comfortably 10th with 70 points and +16GD. Players I wasn't sure if Sean Young 02b (AMC) could handle the Championship, but he had his best season for us to date with an average rating of 7.46. A couple of youngsters are excelling too, the best of them Jamie Owen 09a (AMRL) who put many Championship fullbacks on toast with his dribbles this year, and the midfielder Ronan Richardson 10a (DMC) who is developing fast but unfortunately already set his mind on leaving us (here's where having ambition as your personality traits really doesn't help). Youth intake (preview): An intake full of potential, and switching things to my HOYD seems to have paid off in terms of better personalities, though maybe it's just luck. The only issue is that none of them are first-team ready yet, most of the top prospects seem to play in that center midfield strata, and my tactic has no "pure" central midfielders, but I'm sure I'll figure this out eventually. Facilities Spending £310k/month on the youth set-up but the higher Championship TV money is keeping us afloat; we did a small stadium expansion and now maxed out our capacity at 6377. EDIT 1: And this unexpectedly arrived come end of the season So going up to level 3 but it seems this doesn't require any extra investment. EDIT 2: A £4.2m parachute payment at the end of the season allowed us to upgrade both youth and training facilities, things are definitely looking up! Transfers managed to sell a couple of ageing squad players for decent money to make room for the youngsters. 13. @WhiteCat33 thanks a ton! So many years playing this challenge and still so much to learn I'll switch to the HOYD and put him in charge of the reserve teams, maybe once my rep goes up in the Championship I can get an upgrade on him too.
  14. @WhiteCat33 Thanks, that's really helpful! Here they are Based on what you said I may indeed go for the HOYD given his higher working with youngsters attribute. Especially since my U18 manager is refusing to sign a new contract (he wants to manage to U21 squad apparently) U18 manager media handling is "evasive, unflappable", and HOYD is level-headed. So it looks like the U18 manager personality is better overall. I didn't know about the 3+ year timing, very interesting - so for personality there should be an immediate effect, and for quality a delayed one? I haven't seen a personality improvement but could also be just bad luck.
  15. Quick question for everyone: I got a model citizen U18 manager and a fairly professional HOYD, so I put the U18 manager in charge of the intakes, but the personalities keep being poor. Do you think putting the HOYD in charge of the intakes can improve the personalities because somehow he'd have a bigger influence on them than the U18 manager (even though his personality is not as good in general)?
  16. Poole Town – Season 11 (2034/35) League 1. Another great season, we started where we left off in the league 2 campaign, and despite some injuries which led to a rocky season finale we managed to hang on to top the table with a modest 85 points. So after years of hanging out in the Vanarama leagues we suddenly have 3 promotions in 3 years. Players Tom Grant 05a (AMR/ST) really carried the team this season, it felt like everyone else was basically there to defend or assist him, hope he can keep it up in the Championship. Youth intake (preview): Another great intake ability-wise, but another year of very poor personalities. Not really sure what to do here, I got a model citizen U18 manager in charge of the intakes and a ton of professional staff, but it doesn't seem to be helping much. Facilities/Finances Still spending £250k/month on youth coaching, but we got a nice boost with an FA cup 3rd round tie away to Man City, and £450k in appearance bonuses from last year's sale of Russo to Bolton, which actually gave us a good surplus for a few weeks in January, and the board agreed to spend it to upgrade youth facilities. 17. Poole Town – Season 10 (2033/34) League 2. Despite selling our best player Danilo Russo 04a for £2.8m during the summer, we hit the ground running and never looked back, finishing 2nd and sealing back-to-back promotions with a few games to go. Cups A good FA cup run saw us reach the fourth round where we lost to Premier League Sunderland (getting 2 players sent off did not help...) Players Tom Grant 05a (AMR/ST) stepped into the shoes of the departing Danilo Russo, he's not as prolific but still very good, and with the team improving overall he did enough. The main thing is that after going professional and a couple of facility upgrades, players are developing fast so several players went from VNL to League 2 level within the season. Marc Madsen 06c (DL/AML) was key, notching up many assists and some goals playing as attacking wingback and winger, and Ralph Snow 08a (DMC) finally added some solidity to our midfield. Youth intake (preview): We are leaking money like crazy thanks to our exceptional coaching and recruitment but the intake was impressive - only two elite talents but lots of depth and lots of CA. I signed almost everyone, and Ronan Richardson 10a (DMC) will go straight into the first team next season. Facilities/Finances Ok, so I didn't realize we would be spending £250k a month on the youth set up after going pro, it's a bit much... Still, the sale of Danilo Russo allowed us to upgrade training facilities before we ran out of money again, no idea what will happen in the future - I guess the board might start selling our players for peanuts, I'll try my best to avoid that. 18. Poole Town – Season 9 (2032/33) Vanarama National. We did it! I decided to play more youngsters this season and we started slowly, but as they developed our form picked up and a great end-of-season run eventually sealed promotion. Cups Our best cup run to date, we got to fifth round of the FA cup where we lost away to Man Utd. Players Danilo Russo 04a (AMR/ST) has been the star, rated as leading League 1 player, valued at £2.6m, and scoring 37 goals in 37 appearances. But a large part of the success was due to the emergence of several youngsters which added depth, especially in defence - having a decent goalkeeper in Charlie Blair 04c, and a full back who can cross in Michael Evans 07d really helped. Youth intake (preview): I hired a model citizen under-18s manager and put him in charge of the intake. The intake was a bit disappointing with not-great personalities and middle-of-the-road PA; I was hoping for more given our recent recruitment & coaching upgrades. Facilities The Man U cup tie gave us a big boost, and I quickly spent the money to upgrade youth facilities and max out coaching and recruitment. We'll be leaking money like crazy now that we've gone pro and maxed these out, but given my past experience this still seems to be the best way to progress in this challenge. 20. Poole Town – Season 8 (2031/32) Vanarama National. Another playoff appearance, but our form fell off at the end of the season and we lost to Boston Utd in the first round. Players Danilo Russo 04a (AMR/ST) is our best player by far now, he should probably be paying league football but I'll try to hold on to him for a while. Youth intake (preview): An ok intake with slightly better personalities than last time, but nothing particularly inspiring. Facilities We had an internal takeover and the new board allowed me to upgrade coaching and recruitment. 21. Poole Town – Season 7 (2030/31) Vanarama National. Very different to our last season in this division - no fear of relegation in sight, no mid-season slump, and we finished solidly in the play-offs, losing to Tranmere in the semi final (a sending off for one of our midfielders didn't help). More of the same next season would be great. Cups Thanks to some favourable draws we made the FA cup 3rd round, and got a decent amount of money there after being drawn away to Fulham. Players The squad is getting more balanced, the only area that is still really weak is center midfield, but we got plenty of good attackers and four decent defenders. Danilo Russo 04a (AMR/ST) and Sean Young 02b (AMC/ST) are the best of the lot, managing 20 goals and 20 assists between them during the season. Youth intake (preview): Decent looking intake, with some players in the positions I badly need - but again let down by terrible personalities. Will try to change my HOYD again in the summer. Facilities Lots of action off the pitch with a 1,000 seat stadium expansion, a takeover by the fans' trust, and - thanks to the FA cup money - coaching and recruitment upgrades. 22. Poole Town – Season 6 (2029/30) Vanarama South. What a change being a division down makes - we were in great form for most of the season, sitting comfortably in 1st place. But then come April our form collapsed and we ended up losing our 3 final games and slipping from 1st to 4th. Playoffs were very adventurous, a penalty win against Bath where we bossed the game 4 - 0.3 on xG, a completely undeserved win away at Aldershot and a dramatic final which involved an extra time sending off (for our opponents), a 118th minute equaliser (for us), and a penalty victory for us. So, promoted back at the first time of asking, but given how our end of season went I'm really not that confident for next season. Players We managed to keep all the grumbling players who thought they were too good for us, and the youngsters keep (very) slowly developing. We now have 2 center backs which is a big improvement on 1, and plenty of good attackers. Sean Young 02b (AMC/ST), was the pick of the bunch, scoring and assisting plenty throughout the season, and scoring a penalty in the playoff final shootout. Youth intake (preview): Four elite talents! But rubbish personalities again, even worse this year after my old HOYD was poached by Sheffield Wednesday - so hard to tell how this will turn out. 23. Poole Town – Season 5 (2028/29) Vanarama National. We were way below the required level for the VNL, and deservedly got relegated conceding around 100 goals in the process. To be honest given the level of our squad it was to be expected, but now the problem is that half my players (all the good ones basically) want to leave even though they are only rated as Vanarama South standard themselves... Maybe that promotion came a bit too early, but we go again next year. Youth intake (preview): A talented intake with a very promising striker prospect Tom Grant 05a, but poor personalities again, maybe I need a new HOYD. Facilities Last year's upgrades are done and we don't have money for any more. 24. Poole Town – Season 4 (2027/28) Vanarama South We were back to our best and had no mid-season slump for a change, sealing the title and promotion on the final day with an impressive 105 points. Cups We did great reaching the 3rd round of the FA cup, where we hit the jackpot with an away tie at Liverpool that added almost £800k to the coffers. Players The melted players are gone and the youth is slowly improving, I think the key reason behind our success was last intake’s David Taylor 03a (DC) who turned our defense from terrible to decent. Our attack has been pretty good throughout, and even better this year with the emergence of Sean Young 02b (AMC/ST) who scored 16 and assisted 12 from the AMC and Striker positions. Youth intake (preview): A good looking intake with 4 elite talents (two of them are goalies though, my most well stocked position), and decent personalities. Facilities We went to town after the Liverpool FA cup tie, improving both training and youth facilities, and upgrading coaching and recruitment.
