  1. Long time football manager player here. The one thing that has started to bug me recently is about how some of the hidden attributes which affect game play seem to be wedded year over year to really poor scores no matter how well a player performs in real life. A good case study example is Kevin De Bruyne vs. Jordan Henderson. If you compare some of their hidden attributes over the past 4 years, then you'll see that Henderson ranks consistently in pressure (Henderson 19 vs. KDB 11), consistency (Henderson 17 vs. KDB 16), and important matches (Henderson 18 vs. De Bruyne 15) in spite of De Bruyne consistently outperforming Henderson for the past few years. It appears that KDB has seen no boost in his hidden attributes while working under Guardiola while Henderson has received a considerable reward for his performances post-Klopp coming to Liverpool.

This feedback isn't meant to crap on the game and I realize I'm asking you guys to further split hairs on great players but I'm a huge lover of what you guys do and I just want the game to be as good as possible. With that in mind, I would love for stats like consistency and important matches to either be reevaluated more consistently from year to year to better reflect real world performance or for them to be more dynamic over a players career or coachable in FM23.

  2. I think tries to play way of trouble should be teachable as a player trait and not just a skill learned from mentoring. I know it may have made sense a decade ago to only make this teachable by player trait but I think as certain coaches have shown that this is a skill that can be cultivated with high level coaching I would say this is something that should change in the football manager as well.

    Thanks!

  3. Can I actually use training to help improve my players with in game situations they struggle with?

For instance, if my team is struggling to defend ball over the top or aerial crosses will it help for me to schedule an aerial defense training.

If my team is struggling to make penalties will it help to schedule a penalty training?

    Thanks for any advice!

I am utterly bemused to what I have just witnessed in real life. Chelsea were very good against City again but some of the tactical instructions or player decisions ( depending on which it was ) for City seemed utter nonsense.

Agreed. When I saw Gundogan was essentially the DM, I was like, "This is going to be a problem."

The amount of space in the midfield for Chelsea's goal was reminiscent of arsenal's midfielder over the last decade.

No, I disagree. Yes the match engine has some difficulties simulating some of the concepts in peps philosophy, for example the principle of extreme width and height in the wingers, and the fluidity of interchanging positions.

Besides that, I think it does a dang good job and there are people here who have managed to achieve rather satisfactory Pep replications..

I think you can build something close and I think you can build certain city tactics that pep utilizes. For instance you can already build the 4-2-3-1 with rodri and fernandinho plus mendy as an overlapping full back in the current match engine. Also, I know it gets cited a lot but I think Rashidi is very close to the 4-3-3 with high and wide wingers and I think cult of football manager has done some amazing things as well. However, the high and wide wingers is something that makes pep unique, especially at the moment. The wingers playing so high and wide is what allows the central midfielders to play as inside forwards. Without that the I think for the time being we are stuck with pep replications from his time at barcelona.

I stand by what I said however about how it should tell us something that city in football manager do not play in real life which means even the developers probably recognize the limitations of the game. By contrast, liverpool play exactly like their real life counterparts down to every single role.

  6. I think that fm should add in possession and out of possession formations. Without this feature, I think that players are really limited in their ability to replicate top level managers. For instance, in the current version of fm, it is impossible to recreate xhaka's role as the left sided center back when arsenal are in possession, kyle walker's right sided center back role for man city or zinchenko's left sided center back when walker doesn't play. It's almost impossible to build up with three at the back like top sides unless you play three at the back which then limits the options for your defensive strategies.
