Forge FC  in the Canadian Premier League and Canadian National team. See how high you can take Canada and also use Forge FC to find the next Canadian superstars.

If that is too much then there is always the African nations or you could pick a French league team and try only buying players from the National team you end up managing etc.

I am now doing the Canada club and Country save you suggested here and really enjoying it so far. Forge have the best youth recruitment so it makes sense.

The plan is to take Canada to the WC and then the 2026 WC and also do well with Forge and move on to one of the Canadian MLS teams.

Thanks very much for your suggestion as it got me

    motivated again.

  2. Hidden gem from Serie B - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filippo_Sgarbi

He is a youngish centre back and you can pick him up for 1.4m euros in the first season. He has 14 passing and I play him as a ball playing defender and he is a joy to watch. He is an elegant centre defender of calcio era and also good in the air and in the tackle. Fantastic for lower level serie a and leagues such as Portugal, Netherlands etc

For the more adventurous he could even play as a libero however he only has 8 technique so be wary.

  3. Some fantastic options there Stgahoy. Scalvini is the one player I have asked for on loan and there has been no loan fee. Also, interestingly may be able to pick up Franco Vazquez on loan from Serie B Parma.

Esposito and Salcedo were two I looked at but loan fees are in excess of 2m for each and my budget won’t accommodate. Going to need to really work hard and adapt my transfer policy. I think the wage budget staying the same as in B is a bug though.

  4. Has anyone else noticed the transfer budgets seem small for gaining promotion to Serie A? I got promoted with Lecce and was given a the same wage budget and an extra 1.3m for transfers taking my budget to 3.4m.

I thought ok, let’s look at the loan market but teams want crazy loan fees for 18 year olds who aren’t going to play. For example a cb at Atalanta and they want 1.8m for me to take him on loan! Bug?

    Can somebody help me.

The past couple years i havent stock to one team for over 2 season. When i play some seasons, then there comes other teams that i think could be fun to play with.

Im from Denmark, my favorite clubs are Brøndby from the danish superliga and Real madrid. these team i all ways end up going back to, but the save is end quick.

So please, can somebody help me to pick a team. i only play with big teams because of my time, so no big challenge, just want to enjoy my time with the club.

It sounds like you play like I do and only ever do 1-2 seasons and move on to a new game.

I’ve really enjoyed my save with Lecce in Serie B as I have set myself some transfer restrictions (players from Italy and the Balkans) and it feels much more realistic and slow.

I’d suggest a 2nd tier team and set a transfer policy and culture within the club. Maybe on a border or closer with another nation and sign their players?

Las Palmas but only sign players from Spain/North Africa?

Hamburg/St Pauli but only sign Germans and Danes?

For those of you who enjoy a challenge, give Spezia  a shot.

At face value the squad looks okay, with a prediction of 17th, and a finish of 15th the season previous.

I personally enjoy using the actual squad through until January, and as such my only movement was to sell Jacopo Sala, and sign Matiello from Atalanta for $150k euro. We were overachieving come early December, and had a settled first XI. Matiello decided he no longer fancied being the backup to an impressive Simone Bastoni so he was resold in January for $400k to Salernitana from memory.

As the transfer window reopened I was greeted with a message that "Spezia were under transfer embargo until 31 December 2023". I had agreed a couple of transfers in Kasper Koszlowski for 1.8m, and Fredrik Bjorkan on a free transfer. A closer look would reveal they would join on January 1, 2024. On the field, our form was fine, as we won 10 games on the bounce from mid November into January. We would make the semifinals of the Coppa Italia before losing to Napoli (from memory), and going through a form dip.

Things would pick up again in March, with an 8 game winning streak taking us to 5th places with three games to play. Sadly we would lose all three, and finish the season in 8th, and thus missing out on European football in 22/23.

The transfer window would see some influential loanees leave the club, in Victor Kovalenko, Kevin Agudelo, Ebrima Colley, Eddy Salcedo, Mehdi Bourabia and Rey Manaj. A couple of players have returned to fill the void, and whilst promising, may be a step down in quality. Emil Holm looks to be the pick of the bunch.

We did however turn a profit of 7-8m the previous year, and the board are a dream to work with, having improved Youth Academy, Recruitment, Training and Youth Facilities two times each. Julius Beck is perhaps a promising youngster in the under 18s, and although development was slow, he spent time in the first team to aid his development. The improvements to recruitment saw some potential talents join the Primavera side - and with the embargo in place, the could see some minutes in 2023.

Between Simone Bastoni, and Guilio Maggiore, you have two fine young Italian talents to build around and a side of generally capable young players around them to help keep you afloat until the embargo has passed. I can't recommend this side enough for those who love a challenge, and enjoy youth development.

That sounds like a really fun and exciting challenge all about using the existing squad and developing the B team players and youth.

So, If I am understanding correctly, Spezia don’t start with the embargo 1’e it comes into play in Jan 2022? That means, you can buy some players early on to then develop?

    Barnsley First Matches (21/22)

Played my first 5 matches of the season, and I can say that I´m really happy with how the squad has been playing, altough I´m curently sitting in 9th place, and I,m happy about it, the squad has been playing really good in offense, Woodrow being my key player up-front has been outstanding so far, other player that is being key for me in defense is Michal Helik, the polish has been mantaining the form he had last season and being the back-bone from my defense, but I´m yet convinced that the other 2 CB from my tactic are pulling him down a little bit.

    Tactic

Currently I´m playing a 5-2-3 or a 3-4-3, altough it is my favourite tactic, I´m looking to change it to a 5-3-2, having a young squad is impacting in my midfield duo Styles-Palmer (I didn´t brought anyone because I turned of the first transfer window), them being in their early 20 doesn´t make them have a good experience in defense by far right now, conceding in every match almost from the midle with them not going back is what makes me wonder if having another more defensive minded midfielder would work out. Upfront my main trio is Oduor-Woodrow-Freiser, Oduor is playing as a Winger rn because Freiser doesn´t seems to adapt well to play that role altough he is a rigt-footed RW, so he is one on my list to sell in January, also lacking on wingers and having an overflow of strikers is my main point to change tactics.

Feel free to give any tip on the tactic :)

A great start with Barnsley. I only think a couple of tweaks are worth considering. You don’t have much penetration or support in the centre and you have wide centre backs who will drift wide leaving you open.

You could try having a traditional cd-defend in your back 3 and only one wide centre back.

You could also try inverting your left wing back so he can help out centrally. Your wide left centre back can then have more space to run wide.

Your wingbacks have players ahead of them meaning they may not get into more advanced positions. Consider using two inside forwards or inverted wingers or even pushing them up as pressing forwards alongside Woodrow. This will give you more through the centre and work with your club philosophy and tactical style.

With a back 3 - you probably don’t need a defend duty for your deep lying playmaker. He can be on support as he will still hold position but will press and support higher up the field.

Finally, I suggest that if you keep one forward you should change it to ‘pressing forward’ attack. He will harass more and defend from the front but still be the focal point for the attack.

@roas1875 welcome to the party fellow Zemanlandian 🤣 I agree his Lecce side were also great to watch. I stumbled across some analytics of them when carrying out my research which delved into pressing triggers so may look to explore this later in the save.

Just out of interest what variation of the tactic did you use? Santos and Brazilian football in general is great for goal scoring! I did a bit of streaming with them in FM21.

    Zemanlandian! I love it 😂

From what I remember of the Lecce side the pressing was very intense. I remember how physically imposing they were all over the pitch despite also playing a technical and attack-minded game. It was the perfect storm.

Literally the same shape but the dm was a DM-defend as Alison was a beast but limited technically. The right cm was a Mezzala on attack. The forwards were two DLF-support flanking a AF.

The principles were similar but more emphasis on shorter passing and probing due to the playmaking ability in the side but there would be variations that would see us go more direct to Kaio Jorge or Eduardo Sasha up top. Wingbacks were absolutely key. Will be interesting this version as players tire a lot more when being asked to bomb up and down the flank. Perhaps some rotation or use of subs needed to keep up the intensity.

I did catch a couple of episodes of your Santos stream on YouTube. Was brilliant 👍🏻

  9. Just to let you know I have been following this, great work.

A very harsh draw for the world cup group stage there. Plenty time to build for the next one where hopefully the next generation will shine through.

It’s never nice seeing promising players leave but hopefully the experience in Europe will elevate them and this will benefit the national team.

I see Cristian Benavente didn’t make your squad, he showed promise years ago and signed for Nantes if I recall but he is off the radar a bit IRL too.

  10. Loving this. One of my favourite managers in Calcio. His Lecce team was also great to watch. Vucinic, Bojinov and Bjelanovic were the front 3 with Giacomazzi and Ledesma in midfield. Feeling nostalgic!

I used a similar tactic to your Zeman interpretation on FM 20 with Santos and it was goals, goals, goals but clean sheets were very rare as you can imagine. It was very fun to watch however!

Look forward to seeing your progress.

I was thinking about trying to win the Libertadores with a Bolivian, Venezuelan or Peruvian side. Someome like Deportivo Tachira or Real Potosi.

This also crossed my mind. Would be achievable with a Peruvian side like Sporting Cristal or Alianza Lima who have some good players in this version.

Bolivia and Venezuela a much bigger challenge although Jorge Wilstermann have a nice looking squad.

If you or anyone else reading is interested in Venezuelan football - I highly recommend Red Wine and Arepas by Jordan Florit that comprehensively covers modern Venezuela and it’s football.

Yep. The database is currently missing state tournaments.

I think Riddler's files are European style seasons, rather than opening and closing tournaments. So if realism is your thing, might be worth waiting. If not, then they'll be perfect!,

Thanks - I won’t use that database. Love a state championship!

Ahh, I did a season with Independiente Del Valle on FM 20 and must have not realised it should have been split apertura and clasura. I suppose I would prefer the realism of the tournaments being split so may just wait. Was also tempted by a Bolivia club and country after my Brazilian save.

  13. Thanks @Tikka Mezzala for the updates. Do you mean the Brazil database in the link above does not have the state championships? If so, I will begin a save with default database and the real colours file on the steam workshop.

By the way, the Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Venezuela files by Riddler on the steam workshop always seem to be good, although not tried this year.

Brazil was always going to be the destination of my main save this year. Had a great save with Santos on 20 and Fluminense on 21. Torn this year between:

    1. A somewhat fallen giant like Corinthians - Renato Augusto, Guiliano and Willian make for an interesting dynamic.

    2. A club pushing the new ‘big 3’ in Internacional with the potential to turn it into the best in South America

    3. A stuffy outsider, Bahia perhaps?

I play max 2-3 seasons usually so Vasco, Botafogo may not make the cut as I like to play continental games too.

I normally always have a save in Argentina but due to the club vision bug I won’t bother this year. It’s terrible the lack of attention South America gets from SI. Argentina is also a big league in world terms.
