Pierre Ekwah of Sunderland needs a dramatic glow-up and Anthony Patterson’s determination stat needs a review. Patrick Roberts’ mentals seem a little weak too, not to mention Luke O’Nien’s jumping reach. I watch Sunderland week-in week-out and there is definitely scope for slight improvement in most players. Theyre currently one of the top scorers in the league and sit 4th. They beat Southampton 5-0, yet their players are head and shoulders above. Granted it was one game but the gap isn’t as huge as FM24 makes out.

None taken. I was quite successful with the set pieces in the previous version, and it was much easier to “drag and drop” and swap players. It was a lot more fluid and flexible. My throw-ins on FM23 were superb, now I’ve lost that in FM24 as I only have 2 options and can’t move my players around seemingly? With this new version, you can’t swap set piece roles easily. If I want to swap the player on the left of the box with the player centre of the box, it really isn’t simple to do due to the ranking aspect. The set pieces on the pitch themselves look great, but the set up is cumbersome and complex and takes ages to get spot on.

I’ve scored from an absolutely class short corner routine and similarly from a wide free kick. The set pieces themselves look class, on the pitch, but it took some doing getting them all set up. Best part of 24 hours 🤣

The ME looks absolutely beautiful - my first game (from my FM23 save) was an away Conference League tie in Bulgaria and it looks fantastic under the lights, a lovely smokey effect being quite prominent. Stunning!

I'm looking at it again now, sorry but it's absolutely awful! I can't seem to pick a left footed player to take wide free-kicks on the left hand side. Far too much to do, it's so rigid and convoluted. There was nowt wrong with the set-pieces in the first place.

Mate I have little idea as to WTF is going on with it. I haven’t played a single game since I downloaded it at 6:30pm. It is absolutely diabolical to look at. I’ll have another with fresh eyes tomorrow. What a waste of an evening.

In my recent Palace save, Klopp, Pep and Arteta had all left their respective clubs by the end of season 2. That’s utterly ridiculous too.

ever make an in-game tactical tweak that doesn't work? For example, I can tweak and end up going from 3-0 down after 8 minutes to 6-0 down after 10. So I'm wondering, when the AI tweaks in-game, do they ever get it wrong? I don't think the AI ever gets worse, it seems no matter what they do, they become stronger in a game. No matter how tired their players are, how low their morale is etc etc

Try 4-3-3 fluid counter attack

How to stop conceding goals whereby the oppo wingers get in behind my fullbacks (no matter how high or deep), and square it for a tap in? No matter what level I play it, no matter who my players are, this is more or less the only goal I ever concede. I’ve tried dropping off, using full backs, wing backs on support/ defend, tried marking wingers, closing down wingers, but it never works! I had a little bit of success “trapping inside” but that was soon found out. I’m at my wits end with it now!

Yeah that’s annoying - if you add anything to the deal, like end of season as you say, or loan back etc, the release fee icon disappears. Surely that can’t be reflective of real life?

I can’t say I’ve ever had any noticeable issues with this but am certainly going to pay attention from now on! FTM

Rough with the smooth for me with FM23. I’ve had my teams playing the sexiest pretend football I’ve ever seen, but equally it frustrates the life out of me at certain points. Having now played a ridiculous amount of hours (cheers to covid and working from home 😆👍🏼) the patterns are obvious, it’s massively predictable, and the same things happen over and over no matter what your tactic is or which level you start at. Still, I’ve enjoyed the ride.

I use the Nvidia app on my laptop, as it updates (drivers) fairly frequently. You can go into it and check/ download the latest software, specifically for FM (there’s a tab for each of my FM downloads). Maybe you’re doing this too, but if not, it’s definitely worth a look.

Completely agree, drives me crazy. Yet I guarantee a mod will come along soon and give an explanation, however. Never ever will they admit to flaws such as this. My biggest bugbear at the minute is the loan fees. Every single club asking for €190k playing fee and €300k+ non playing fee for average players and youth players who have zero first team experience. Then the AI offers me zero fees and “fringe player” playing time and will not budge on it, for my loan listed players. But remember, it’s a level playing field for the human and AI across the board.

In particular to stop the AI's incessant getting in behind and crossing from everywhere - no matter what I try they will find a way to pop one over the top late on, it doesn't seem to matter if I play high or low, close down or stand-off. My centre halves also seem to stop playing at this point and can't win a header against a dwarf. My keeper's hands turn into lettuce as well 👍 What instructions are they using for that man? If the AI played the full 90 like it does the last 10 they'd be unbeatable!

Dear SI, please don’t waste any time making pointless cosmetic changes suggested on here, such as anything to do with stadiums. It’s almost as if some want it to look like fifa man! I have been playing FM (and champ man) since their inception, and it’s never ever been about how the games look for me. Personally, if I could make one suggestion, it would be that my staff aren’t absolute morons, particularly assistant managers. Has anyone ever let their assistant pick the team, and have you ever “listened” to his in-game suggestions? They’re on another planet And when I agree to the personal development of players, advised by my assistant, 9 times out of 10 the player rocks up saying their training isn’t beneficial. Whenever I leave youth team staff recruitment to someone else, they appoint utter dross - so I end up doing literally everything myself now from top to bottom.
