  1. Also, the 15 year old prodigy Chris Rigg needs adding in. He had a goal ruled out on Saturday v Fulham and is being courted by top Premier League clubs apparently. Happy to try and come up with something if you need me to, in terms of ability.
  2. Patterson's stats above are genuinely not reflective of the lads ability
  3. I feel the Sunderland squad has been somewhat "underegged" in FM23 - which is sort of fair enough following promotion from league 1. However, the evidence of Sunderland's season so far suggests there is now room for improvement with the squad. In particular: Ross Stewart needs to be faster and stronger with improved mentals, and an improvement all round really - I would also say he is more of an Advanced Forward than a target man. The stats don't lie and Ross has scored 10 goals in 13 games this season, with 3 assists. He scored 26 in 49 last season, with some big goals in big games - he's a big game player under who is at his best under pressure. He has been linked with some big money moves away from SAFC, with Burnley reported to be ready to pay £15m+ for his services. He's up there with Brereton-Diaz as one of the best players in the league. He also takes penalties very well. Anthony Patterson the goalkeeper - a top young prospect who has excelled since being given the number 1 jersey at Sunderland. Although shaky with corners/ set pieces, he is excellent in every other department with neutral football reporters commenting on his calmness and ability to be positioned perfectly when facing opposition attacks. His current FM stats don't do him justice at all. Again, he's surely up there with the best GK's in the division. Dan Neil, the playmaker/ box to box midfielder is the heartbeat of Sunderland, driving them forward but also being there to break up a lot of attacks - providing the perfect platform for Amad and Roberts to excel. Amad himself has been playing as a 10 with complete competence, winning numerous awards for player of the month etc. Watch the Sunderland v Boro and Fulham v Sunderland games to understand how fluid the side are, and how the aforementioned players deserve an overall boost. Luke O'Nien is now 100% a centre back too and his physical stats needs adjusting. The lads jumping reach for someone his height is top notch. Finally, Trai Hume is Sunderland's regular right back who loves a tackle and whipping in crosses. His main abilities are his work rate and timeliness in the tackle. He's an old fashioned full back in the Phil Bardsley mold.
  4. Is there a possibility that you (SI) can give the SAFC squad a bit of an upgrade for the next update please? Make Ross Stewart the goal machine that he is, and give Anthony Patterson the improvement he deserves? Thank you. Love you x
  5. Cracked me up! Played Liverpool at home and completely surprised them by playing a 4-2-3-1 deep, wing play/ direct counter hybrid. During the first 20 minutes I was constantly getting in behind 1 on 1 with the keeper, but for whatever reason Haaland couldn’t hit the barn door. To counter this, Liverpool pushed their two centre mids on (playing 4-3-3) with a high press, but seemingly dropped their back line deep as hell, with the holding midfielder playing as a half back, I think. So naturally they left a HUGE gap between their back line and their forward players. I dropped my 10 back into centre mid so now I have 2 holders and a centre mid on attack - he absolutely ran riot and I beat them 3-0 in one of the most entertaining games I’ve seen. I created 4 clear cuts and they created 3! It was manic. Just wanted to share that I’ve never ever seen such a dramatic in game tactical tweak from the AI before - I must’ve really rattled them! That gap that they left for me to exploit was truly laughable 😂.
  6. Don’t change too much. Maybe change some attacking roles to support and if players are blowing, set them to “take fewer risks”. if you’re on positive, think about changing it to balanced - I’d never go to anything less than balanced as it’s too big a shift in mentality, I find. You can get the keeper to slow the pace down but again I find it counter productive if he’s a sweeper-attack, so change him to support or defence. I have found that subtle changes work as long as they all align with each other, like mentioned above. Trial and error. I also make sure I watch the whole of the last 20 minutes or so to see what the AI is up to - then you can plug any gaps in your defence.
  7. After the most dour final in history (the 90 minutes anyways) I clinched it in extra time 2-0, with possibly the best tiki-taka goal I have ever seen in FM. (I got the Man City job via interview after success in Dortmund by the way.) Just wanted to say, SI, the whole champions league branding really added something to the final, I watched the whole thing through and it was class, well done! Really made for a bit atmosphere in me box room. Only bugbear is that my squad celebrated with the trophy in front of the Barca fans, rather than their own Anyway, best get back to work now!
  8. I wish they’d patch the set piece issue sooner than March
  9. What about when you win the league but never get to see your side lift the trophy - that always bugs me? If you win the league at a canter it doesn’t seem to be an issue, but if it’s tight at the top and you clinch it late on, you don’t actually see the trophy presentation. Happens year after year too.
  10. I’ll share tomorrow, not with my laptop at the minute. I don’t use playmakers though and I scrapped the IWBs for standard full backs with support duties.
  11. It worked for a good few months for me barring a hammering away to RB Leipzig - by the end of the season it was found out and I had to adjust on the fly to grind out results. I was having loads of the ball but had zero penetration, even against far inferior opposition I couldn’t open them up often. It was too slow and predictable I reckon. However, I’ve used the fundamentals of the tactic to create my own and it’s working well so far - just waiting to play a top, top side away from home to see how well it is actually working!
  12. I managed to take the title back from Bayern, but the tactic was definitely found out the last few games of the season. All oppo played 4-2-3-1 deep and as you say, man marked the IWBs. I had to grind out results in the end so looks like next season will be a tough one with this tactic!
  13. This has changed my life, and saved my season - very much appreciated, great tactic!
  14. That’s a good shout! Never thought of that 👍🏼
  15. Ok so a one-off fluke defeat to Mainz or Bochum can trigger a loss of form, meaning I go from doing well, to doing ok, to doing badly - meaning game by game the opposition changes its’ approach to me? In the midst of a slump, would it be recommended that I go for a more defensive based approach, to stop the rot? I’m not sure I should be defending my way out of poor form, however?
  16. Please explain to me what programming causes my season to unravel every February without fail? My first season, as always in FM, was a success, with little room for complaint, however, subsequent seasons have proved to be a nightmare come February: Season 2 - defeat to Mainz caused capitulation: Season 3 - From nowhere I was annihilated in Frankfurt: Season 4 - Defeat to Hertha ruined it this time: Current Season - even that 4-0 win v Wolfsburg was horrendous to watch and I knew then the slump was coming: Is anyone else seeing this, what is the purpose of SI programming this into the game? How do I avoid it? I've tried overhauling tactics and tweaking but it's a massive struggle to get out of it or avoid it!
  17. I managed to win the bundesliga with Dortmund in my 2nd season, taking advantage of a slow Bayern start to go on a crazy unbeaten run, even I couldn't believe what I was witnessing. I won the league by 20 points, however, I did sort of limp over the line following the usual FM loss of form, that came from absolutely nowhere. I was knocked out of the german cup and champions league in the midst of this dreadful run. Coupled with the end of last season, my unbeaten run neared 40 odd games until Mainz FM'd me and beat me 1-0 at their place. What followed was the usual unrealistic, programmed loss of form that now midway through season 3, I am still not out of. I am playing from game to game scraping results, and have been since that Mainz result. My players no longer press or can pass the ball to each other, Adeyemi can't hit a barn door and my keeper has grown some lettuce hands. I tried to tweak initially, changing some roles around, dropped deeper etc etc but I'm struggling like hell. Morale is still good, and the players are happy, but I still cannot get any consistency going with a single tactic - and if my assistant tells me to drop deeper one more time I'm going to knock him spark out! I get that for tricky games I have to adjust, but when Augsburg and Hoffenheim are walking through me like my centre mid doesn't exist, the frustration levels go through the roof. I guess what I am looking for are some tips on how to get out of this awful run I'm in. Are there any things I can do without posting endless screenshots of my tactics? I always end up starting a save playing exactly the way I want to, but with every FM I end up deeper and deeper playing an awful tactic I hate - over a few seasons my approach and philosophy to football becomes unrecognisable in comparison to where I started.
  18. This is a new, even more repetitive set of questions and it’s driving me around the bend 😩
  19. In the pressers, relating to me playing Knauff at right wing-back, after retraining him. When will it stop 😭😭😭😭😭
  20. For some reason the graphics quality had gone down to medium without any human intervention 🤷🏼‍♂️. Looks like I’ve sorted it. Cheers for the advice.
