I've just had a video come up on my recommendations on YouTube and it's actually quite remarkable.

It's by @TomFM who has quite a likable delivery style and it's called the Ross County Challenge and he called it the "Most RIDICULOUS challenge in Football Manager". I scoffed at this but still pressed play so that I could comment that I have completed far more ridiculous challenges than that.....

It turns out that the challenge is to take over Ross County and only sign players with Ross in their name, (although you could keep players who were already at the club until their contracts expire, or you sell them).

In addition to that, players such as Leandro Trossard wouldn't be eligible as a "Ross signing", because the Ross part of his name isn't prominent enough. The late great Paolo Rossi, (of 1982 World Cup fame), or the much more recent Giuseppe Rossi (of Man Utd, Villarreal and Italy), would however be eligible. If I was doing this save I would argue for the inclusion of the likes of Trossard and even the inclusion of players such as Pascal Groß of Brighton, (because Groß is pronounced like Gross in English), but that's by the way. You get the idea.

If anyone is stuck for a save or an idea then this might help them, and if not Ross County then maybe another club but along similar lines. St Johnstone with John or something Stone related in the name is perhaps easier.

Anyway, the whole challenge seems to have been edited really concisely into a single video, so it might be something some of you lot in here might enjoy.

My name is John, so I might try it out with St Johnstone

It used to yes, (but then again you also used to get a message when a player was poached).

At the very least there should be something shown in the players history to show the affiliate link in the way it does for poached players.

(52d) Porojan (ROU)(Spirit) * came through the intake, but it was before we had the Romanian affiliate anyway.
We had a Portugese player through either this year or last year, but there was nothing linking him to Casa Pia
We haven't had a Spanish, Dutch or Japanese player come through recently, but in any case they have literally all been added in the last 2 season.

It doesn’t show if a player is poached anymore?!?!?

No, we haven't poached a single player from another Academy in this save, (but we have lost a few).

Most of the one's we lost were not worth worrying about, but there was a bloke who was poached by Aberdeen and who we paid £1.5M to get back.

The only other poached player who is still in the game is this bloke.

I personally don't think there is enough poaching in the game, but perhaps that's by design as it would be incredibly frustrating to constantly lose the best players you produce, (but also realistic).

Considering what our Facilities were and the quality of the players we produced relatively early in the save, I'm surprised that we didn't have more players poached. With that in mind I don't think I can really moan that we aren;'t poaching more now that our Rep is higher.

We've never had a player from an affiliate, but I will also admit that I was pretty slack for a long time after we were promoted to the Premiership, and it's only in recent years I really got things sorted in that respect, (and have more work to do because we have nothing in Africa, South America, Scandinavia or North America yet).

    Season 2024/25 National League South

League Ah the long slog of first season and being in England. I had forgot this pain! Was a good season we started slowly as I figured out the best 11 but then injuries and the relentlessness of England meant we often struggled to fill our bench but it also meant I was forced to keep the same 11 pretty much every match. After the battle we get at Christmas we really found form, so much so that we only lost 1 game from jan onwards. We were always in and around the playoffs as we always scored goals but then first Southend and then Torquay totally bottled the league (despite us only drawing with both) meant that with 6 games to go we went top. We then lost our 19 game unbeaten run to drop back to 2nd but 4 straight wins wo finish the season (we lucked out as 3 of our final 4 games were against sides already relegated) meant we not only finished top but won the league by 4 points.

FA Cup A good run in this, made the first round but League Two Harrogate were too good for us. Not a shock but nice to make the first round proper

FA TrophyShocking to lose to Whaltamstow as we twice threw away the lead but honestly was likely the reason we won the league as we had 4.5 months of nothing but league games which gave us some rest at times with our small squad.

Transfers None in but losing 2 players who went back to their home countries really hurt our already thin depth

Squad - A small one but they done brilliantly, The 50 goals in 50 games from Danny Mills was key. I have no idea how or why he's scored so much and I doubt he'll do it at a higher level but he's pretty much all we've got. A lot of the squad can play lots of roles which cam in handy during the season and meant every got a fiar bit of game time.

Youth Intake - The preview looked Ok and turned out well with just a few players tagged (though 2 of of them were tagged as 26 rather than 25 because I'm an idiot)

Stephen Black 25A - Coaches think he's a DM but he's clearly a CB for me
Grzegorz Lewandowski 25B - Gonna make a fortune selling those Lewandowski Dulwich shirts! :D
Luis Muscatt 25C - My back up formation is a 4231 so he could be useful when we use that as doubt he's big enough to play as an 8 in my 433
Latrell McGillis 25D - Again I differ from the coaches who think he's a CB but I'll likely use him as LB. Either way he'll be cover and depth in 2 roles at least

UEFA Champions League. The 1-0 loss to Barca, (they deserved to win my more), brought to an end a run of 13 consecutive victories, that saw us smash 8 (EIGHT) past Hearts, 7 (SEVEN) past both Fiorentina & Sterling ALbion, 6 (SIX) past Aberdeen in the League Cup Final, and keep 7 clean sheets. That's the best run we've been on since we've been promoted to the Premiership. We scored 50 goals in these 13 games, conceding just 8.

Scottish Cup. I love it when we score loads of goals, but I don't love it when we score so many goals that we break the User Interface so that we can't see who has scored all the goals.

Injuries. As if we don't have enough players out, we lost 2 more in/since the last game.

I just didn't see the point initially because it will be s short-term(ish) save.

The other thing is that form drives player value and there is no substitute for goals in terms of a driver of form. The idea of letting GK's take pens to drive up their value, when in my experience they are significantly under-valued in the transfer market doesn't make sense to me. Instead, the idea of strikers, (ideally), who are significantly over-valued in the transfer market having their form and value boosted by the simple act of converting lots of penalties, seems to be quite a sensible strategy.

In the 1st season I just left it to the Ass Man to decide who would take pens, and Libero Sim scored either 9/9 or 10/10 with a penalty taking attribute of just 4. We did miss 1 pen, but that was taken by a striker, (not sure who and not sure what his penalty taking attribute was). I know that we were only in the Champion ship, but can you imagine adding 10 goals a season to a striker's goal tally and how much this will impact his form and transfer value? Now imagine selling that striker every season? It just makes sense to me.

    Ok that's fine

Hi, I've just stumbled across this type of save, from your own experience, what are the best countries to do it in?

Germany is probably the best country to do it in. I personally like using extended DBs, but Germany is the one nation (along with England) that I always come back to.
