Does anyone have a good route one tactic? Or a really stubborn defensive tactic ?

i get what you’re saying completely but I like to set my team up with a low line so it brings the opposition out of there block and forces them too build up. I tweak game to game but the principles are the same. i could definitely be more effective and put the pressure on lesser teams like you imply though. I’m just trying to keep the identity the same is all.

Have you played much more into the season since signing him? Interested to see how he’s performed and how you’ve fitted him. Have you had to tweak tactic or has he excelled in the current system. Your team set up is very interest. I love seeing a lower line etc as it’s much harder to succeed with than the same old high line much more often press etc.

I did try “slightly mired direct” and down a notch on tempo but had inconsistent results. It mainly let teams settle into the block meaning it was less effective as a countering tactic. I’ve tried making my team more “structured” and that has worked well as the players on attack duty seem to have more urgency.

Yeah Kevin Davies was such a brute. Such a shame to not see players like him about as much anymore. Super interesting seeing you train a centre back to play there!

Sounds great! It’s reminding me of big sams Bolton where Kevin Davies was like a wide target man and occupied defenders but then also worked incredibly hard to get back into a right midfield position to help out with the dirty work also.

Yesss! This is exactly the “defence first” style I love reading about. Truly defense focused and solid at the back with little conceded. It’s felt we were drifting away from that in this thread so it’s nice to see a post like this! Looks like you’ve built this so well around the players you have at your disposal also. Congrats!

Hello! I’ve been following this thread for such a long time and have thoroughly enjoyed the wisdom shared. Now honestly, I’m not a veteran of fm but I do love the tactical chess like side of the game we all love so try to implement my philosophies. My favourite managers are Mourinho and Conte so I base all my setups with that in mind. With the Euros being on, I’ve set my new Fiorentina up under the influence of Antonio Contes Euro 2016 Italian side. I’m not sure if anyone else quite remembers this team as well but I loved the grit and underdog spirit of that team who were viewed as an aging withered team with little to give. The team played as tight cohesive unit defensively and exploded on the counter with the likes of Sunderland’s Giaccherini and the big man Graziano Pelle. Anyway here is what I’ve gone with as my squad and how it is going so far. Thanks in advance for anyone taking the time to read this! Sorry if i blabbered on it’s my first post 😂.
