  1. I recently had a strange thing happen to me. In my save, I had B2B games against Dortmund (BL and DFB cup competition), two days in between. Tactic-wise, I did not make any changes; I pressed their creative DM and their AM (they played a 4-2-3-1 vs. my 4-3-3). In the first match, my best players were on the field, and I managed a 2-1 win against them. 2nd match, I fully rotated, had even 2 U19s on the field, and won 3-0. Statistics, though, were worse for the 2nd match. BVB had only 1 player changed in the 2nd match, so basically still their best players or their regular starting XI on the field. Do such things happen regularly? How can my worst starting XI be beating them "with ease" compared to my good starting XI?
  2. I love that pass map, that's something I want to achieve with my team in the Bundesliga currently. For me, it's interesting to see that this is what I would expect from a 4-3-3 formation, but you get it from a 4-2-3-1, I wonder if it would be possible to get this kind of pass map from a 4-3-3? And how did you manage to get into the attacking third?
  3. Kompany plays so far, at least in my observations, different tactics depending on the opponent. Yesterday, it was a classical 4-2-3-1. Guerriero and Davies were playing as wingbacks, and Upamecano was somewhat of a BPD while Kim quickly gave the ball away. I don't know if Upamecano's passing could be categorised as a BPD. Kimmich & Pavlovic were playing the double-pivot, whereas Pavlovic had a slightly more offensive part, IMHO, with more presence at the Box. Musiala, I would say, was something of an Advanced Playmaker or Enganche/Trequartista. His role is to bring the other offensive into play with a critical pass, generate space with dribblings, and try to score. The wings in this match were something of an IW/IF style, with both having their strong foot inverted to the side they play. And Kane is doing what Kane is always doing; dunno what role would fit best to FM, but he comes deep quite often (maybe DLF?). This was a bit different against Kiel in the Bundesliga, having Coman as AML also in an IW role, but Gnabry on the right is giving more width. And things were completely different when you look at what he did against Freiburg. Kimmich was nominal the D(R) but played something of an IFB/IWB, vacating this area into the DM, while Guerriero stayed as the FB D(L). Gnabry then had to play the whole right flank, taking care of giving width but also having defensive duties, which Tel didn't had to do on the left side playing the IF there.
  4. Thanks for your Input. I made changes according to your ideas. I further switched my D(L) from a WB-S to an FB-S due to the AML W-At. Otherwise, if I understand the guides I've read correctly, they might occupy the same space. While it helped with penetration into the box, I now lack a good progression of the ball into the attacking third. Often, my passes get intercepted, nobody is free, or they are played to players who have an opponent next to them. I don't understand how this happens since I'm now lacking possession somehow.
  5. Hey, so, by far, I am no tactic genius and need help in another post. But this tactic seems to me to be quite dividing the game. You get width by your wingers, but I could imagine that your CAR and IWB are occupying neaerly the same area on the pitch. And there could be quite a distance to cover between your defence line and your midfield. The AP will be, at least my observation so far, hugging the box and staying close to the AF. I could imagine that your left winger will be pretty isolated; your right winger will be close to your CAR. But I'm happily stand corrected by someone with more wisdome and knowledge. So please don't rely on my input without input from somebody else.
  6. Dear Wizards of the FM universe, I ask for your help. I am more of a silent reader in this forum, and I got a lot of input, improving my life as a manager. I started my career in FM23, taking over a little club and making it up to the Bundesliga. We are now in our fifth season in the BL; however, I don't see any progress, and I fear that this season, we might even develop back. Club History Tactic Regarding my tactic, I tried out a lot of things. However, I feel like I'm not scoring enough goals. I get the ball usually into the final third, but then my players don't know what to do with it. Rarely do I see diagonal runs from my IFs, which I thought would help. I tried using an AP(a) instead of the RPM(s) to get more penetration into the Box, but then he just occupies the place of my IF(s) in the AM(L). And I came to a point now where I cannot get further without help or somebody explaining some more details of tactics. Below are my players, which is currently my squad. The Transfer Budget has been used for this season so far, so I am limited in making squad changes. GK Defence Midfield Winger Striker I hope that somebody can help me understand FM and what I need to do to be more performant. I appreciate the time and effort you put in.
