I was gonna start my own thread but then I used the big brain advanced technique of looking up the word "slow." I work on the 03-04 database with 2 million+ changes and obviously it's a complete nightmare to start up a game. It's hilarious but I have the thing up on steam workshop and half the comments are like "game dont work" because yeah, these guys are waiting 3 hours to make a save game, of course they think it froze. I'd like to know if there's a technical/memory leak reason for this that SI can work on.

One thing that might be able to help: because of the way the player IDs transitioned over to  the ~2000060000... numbers, I had a version of this that didn't load in my 10k+ brand new player entries, and it loaded just fine despite still having a ton of changes (including deleting hundreds of thousands of younger database players). I wonder if the new player entries or the way the game loads them in might be an issue.

I've noticed a similar thing when editing the Retro Regens mod.  It also takes ages to even delete people from the base database, often completely freezing.

I've got a method that I like, but it's very weird. Warning.

There's something left over in the game that I don't think people have been using at all in the last five years except to deal with the licensing stuff. .edt files, for me they go in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2021\data\database\db\2111\edt . The game already loads in support_staff.edt but I don't care if Leeds's kit man or whatever has the right name, I just work in that file.

One of the commands is DETAILED_FUTURE_REGEN, which allows you to set a lot of stuff, most importantly starting CA (depending on country, usually regens come in around 15-16), PA, position and starting club.

First Name    Common Name    Last Name    Birth date(dd/mm/yyyy)    Nation (first nationality)    Favourite Team    Ethnicity    Skin Tone    Hair Color    Height (cm)    Weight (kg)    Preferred foot    Preferred position    Favorite number    Birth city    CA    PA    Club ID

Unfortunately, the list of positions doesn't include anything for DMs or WBs. I thought it was working for DMs but it assigns the position randomly and I guess I just got lucky with the first two guys i checked.

You lose control over attributes, and since the game just randomizes everything it's a bit annoying to see slow Kyle Walker or one-dimensional target man Daniel Sturridge. And they have regen faces. But the big upside of this is that they come up through the regen intakes naturally. You can't just buy them all in the first year, and you don't have 10 year olds in your U18s for years.

tips i can think of: it doesn't have a field for second nationalities, but for most countries it'll assign the "based nation" nationality pretty quickly, so if you make Gundogan Turkish instead of German, he'll probably pick up the German soon. And it also doesn't accept potential values of -85, -95 etc. I think those were put in the game after they stopped paying any attention to this. But -8, -9, -10, any fixed value, all fine.

Does this still work on the new patch? Can't seem to get it working

Thanks man i hope this helps everyone who wants to create lower leagues.

This feature will be in next update. Probably only basic stuff like first and second names, CA, PA...

Ah right, thanks :) Was worried it was a problem my end.

    Hi mate.

This is due to the domestic league's qualification places being linked to the nation's rules as opposed to the continental competition's rules. I've brought this issue up in the feature request forum as the league tables also lose their colour-coded positions.

Basically I would have to rebuild the Premier League from scratch in order to get the qualification places to display in the rules page. It's unfortunate but I don't think there's any way to work around it right now.

Ah right that makes a lot of sense, thanks for the explanation

The only problem with importing, or like 95% of the problem, is replacing the players that get deleted by SI in the yearly database switchover.

Step 1: delete brand new players (player entries with 0 changes) - easy, just takes a long time to process

Step 2: fix the leagues so they run, since every year teams get promoted+relegated and it messes with your tables. Only funny/annoying part is how they force you to wrangle with the youth leagues in some countries, too. Like I do not care who's in the Calcio Excellenza U19 C or whatever those things were called.

Step 3: cross-reference DB against DB loaded in previous year's editor, make a list of who's missing in notepad or something. Not fun! Obviously sort by ID, not alphabetically. But once it gets into the brand new IDs (the long ones starting with 1915... or whatever), no one should be missing. Actually I lied, there's that "retired players" group that has to end before brand new IDs begin, though I forget if they get pruned or not

Step 4: replace them. I think I had to replace like 800 players to get this working on FM20. A normal league like 2. Bundesliga or Russia which I'm messing with now might be about 500 players.

I don't have his 95-96 file but for anyone who wants to try, it should be easier if he used more brand new IDs to create the players (which I'd imagine he did, as more of those players are out of the DB, the file might not be as big as this one etc).

edit: I forgot one of the only things I did for this file that was cool and not just pure gruntwork. You also have to change everyone's birth year so they're not (in this case with an FM18 file) 2 years too old, but it's very doable with find+replaces if you convert the file to a giant freakshow 500 MB XML file. I'd gladly pop in and do that again if someone else can do the hard stuff lol

    You're not wrong!!
