  1. Hey folks, I was wondering whether you might be able to help me out with a little scouting problem.

I'm not sure whether I've misunderstood how scouting works in FM24, but I'm struggling to understand why this recruitment focus would be delivering so few results.

I've assigned a scout with a very good knowledge of the region, and the minimum CA/PAs don't seem particularly high to me. I'm only in my second season, so I know for a fact there will be plenty of players in the game, in the UK, with a better than 2.5 PA

Am I doing something wrong here? Is there a particular reason why this focus might have only brought up one recommendation (from Sunderland - no offence Sunderland fans), when the academies of the top Premier League sides must be chucking out some pretty highly-rated prospects?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Tom

  2. I started a save with Brighton, and am following their 'buy cheap, sell for loads' kind of approach. Lots of my players are young prospects who I then sell on for a lot more than I bought them for - and in general it tends to work pretty well.

A few (in game) years ago, I had a left back come through my academy who looked like he could be an absolute worldbeater. He had a 2* CA and 5* PA, and I started giving him first team minutes straight away.

A few years later, he hasn't really come along all that much - certainly not relative to some of my other players, who are now off winning Kopa trophies and young player of the year awards and that sort of thing. He's still got a 2* CA, and when I look at his progress there doesn't seem to have been that much improvement over the course of the last four seasons - which is obviously a bit disappointing.

The most obvious problem, to my mind, is his personality - and I'm not 100% sure whether there's anything that I can do about that, but my question generally is that besides putting him on the right training regime, and giving him plenty of first-team minutes, what else should I be doing with this guy to try and get him up to somewhere close to his potential?

Or - does his personality mean that he's a bit of a waste of time and I should bin him off and give someone else a shot?

  3. This isn't an especially major issue/idea; but it's a scenario I've come across a couple of times, so thought it was worth suggesting.

When players are unhappy that you've accepted a transfer bid for them, because they feel as though they're being 'forced out of the club', the options for your private chat with the player seem a bit too limited. They basically boil down to 'I'm sorry, it won't happen again' or 'we wanted to get rid of you for reasons x, y & z'.

However, often when a player comes to me with this concern I've accepted a bid for completely different reasons. I'm not trying to force them out, but I'm also comfortable with them leaving. It would be helpful to have some of these available in the private chat.

For example, it might be that the player is a useful squad player, but you received a substantial offer which was too good to turn down (example: Wolves bid £45m for Harry Wilson on my Liverpool save). He was a useful part of the squad, and you'd be very happy to keep him around, but could easily be replaced for quite a lot less than the money you've been offered. Some sort of 'We're delighted you want to stay at the club, but hope you can understand why we had to accepted such a high offer' option might be helpful here.

Another example: You receive a good offer for a player who is on the fringes of your squad, but would be a valuable member of the first team were he to move on. An example from the same save: Burnley make an offer for Curtis Jones. The offer was a good offer, the player was a useful squad player but would be easily replaceable, and moving on might end up being a great career move for them. Something along the lines of 'I thought you might like to speak to X, as it could be a good career move for you, but of course there is room for you in the squad here' could be a good option, perhaps?

Basically, this interaction only seems to give you the chance to force them out, or apologise, but there's no middle ground. Sometimes a good offer is a good offer, and you're comfortable with a player staying or going.

  4. I'm trying to make one or two changes to my 4-2-3-1 tactic on my Barcelona save, and would be really keen to get some advice.

Although I'm winning matches, I'm taking a lot of shots, often without scoring too many goals. In particular, my strikers are under-performing, and I was wondering whether there are any changes I could make to bring them into the game a bit more?

Here's my tactic, and 1st-choice side:

And to illustrate the problem, here are my top goalscorers:

My top goalscorer, Messi (no surprise there), is scoring at 0.79 goals per game. Ansu Fati is next, knocking in 0.61 goals per game. On the other hand, my two out-and-out strikers, Fábio Silva and Antoine Griezmann, are scoring at 0.3 and 0.28 goals per game, which is obviously pretty low for the front man on a team 15 points clear at the top of the league.

I get that when Messi and Mbappé are on your team they are going to score most of the goals, but I still think I'm getting a pretty low return from the lone striker. What can I do to put them in a better position to get on the score sheet?

Any tips very gatefully appreciated 🙏🏻

  5. I appreciate this is very much a first-world problem, but I'm really keen to hear other people's thoughts:

I'm about to go into the year 2022 on my Barcelona save, and the final year of Lionel Messi's contract. He's currently earning £1.2m per week, but when I tried to offer him a new deal the maximum the board would allow me to offer is £625k (even though I've got a spare £2m in my wage budget).

    Unsurprisingly, Messi said no.

Is there any way that anyone can think of that I could persuade him to sign a new deal? Seems a bit daft to let him go on a free when he's still knocking in 30+ goals a season.
