Lovely to see a Villa thread. Quick question. I had this last year and seems to be again this year but has anyone had the issue where no matter how you play him Diego Carlos gets terrible ratings? Like every game.
Ill be honest, by the time he was fit, i had a settled centre back partnership so sold him as soon as someone matched what we paid for him.
I dont know if its this years FM but it seems to be that the ratings on CB's are a little harsh anyway. Prime example, a striker scores 3 and misses 10 chances and gets a rating of 10. A CB scores 3 from 3, gets a clean sheet and only gets a 9.2

Season 2
Decent season but a drop off in players originally at the club that i put faith in. I changed my formation to a 4-2-3-1 in the final third of the season and started to see a little more consistency. I ended up bringing in more players than i would have liked also. As I approach season 3, it really has to be about adding quality and building on an already impressive youth setup.

I feel the squad has all but reached it's limit now, if I want to progress further it's time to really open up the chequebook and bring in some real, expensive talent to propel us to that next level. The biggest concern I have is that of consistency. When everybody plays well we can beat anyone, but far too often I'm dragging my attacking players off with 30 minutes to go with <6.5 ratings and massively underperforming xG.
Interesting point this. I will post another update at the end of season 2 but i am finding this season consistency is proving a major issue. I go from smashing Villereal 5-1 in the Champions League to struggling to draw against a Norwich side destined for relegation.

I have also finished my first season with Villa. Pleasantly happy and slightly disappointed that the season finished with no silverware.
I played with a 4-1-2-2-1 formation on Balanced setting for most the season. Occasionally i would change the mentality to positive.

New signings Talles Magno, Caleb Okoli and Andreas Schjelderup all had very good first seasons and have a very bright future ahead of them
Aim during the season is to shift some of the expensive deadwood at the club. I dont plan to make too many additions and i will only sign anyone if they improve my starting XI.

RB: Vagnoman from Hamburg
DM: Ugarte
ST: Forss from Brentford was good for me at this level.
Thanks mate.
I loaned Ricky Jake-Jones who fired me to promotion with 30+ goals.
Sold Cummings for £9.5M so looking for competition for Jones who I loaned again for my first season back in the EPL with Hull

Position: ST
Role: Advanced Forward
Team: Hull
Available budget: Around £3-5M with about £20k wages
Season: End of season 2
Additional information/requirements : Just missed out on promotion to the EPL via the playoff final. Had Bamford (scored 16) on loan and Cummings (15goals) but I’m looking for a more prolific scorer with Cummings as competition

We have experienced a similar thing with our network game tonight.
The person i am playing with won a game 2-0 (I watched the goals go in). Then once it all loaded it changed to 0-0.
And then just, he won 4-1 and come out of the game and actually won 6-1 with the player who scored the last goal not even being on the pitch!

My game has been running fine since i purchased it on Monday and then this evening I was in a game with Arsenal, winning 2-1. They went on a attack scored and the game froze and was unresponsive. a few minutes later it unfroze, it was full time and Arsenal had won 3-1.
About an hour later, I am getting hammered by Chelsea, they score their 4th goal and my game freezes again but doesn't seem like it will unfreeze this time.
I am running my game on a Macbook Pro which is about 9 months old...

I am in my second season with Aston Villa and regardless of what formation I play, I concede far too many goals and it is really frustrating me now.
During my first season, I played a 5-2-2-1 WB formation on Gegenpress. I only conceded 11 goals in the first half of the season. Since then i ship goals for fun. I ended up conceding 65 in total.
And so far this season i have let in 8 in four games.
Formations used (and i use them for more than one game): 5-2-2-1 WB, 5-2-2-1, 4-2-3-1, 4-1-2-3 Wide, 5-3-2.
Here is a picture of my squad:

I need some help. I have been scouting and looking for another striker for my Aston Villa save.
I want someone that will settle relatively quickly, and add something different to my current option of Wesley.
I have a budget of around £15M and a wage budget of around £50k. I have one week before the transfer deadline at the start of the game.
I did look at players like Odsonne Eduard at Celtic but his wage demands are crazy.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I am currently doing a save with Newcastle where I can only sign homegrown players and must have a full homegrown squad by the start of season 3.
Homegrown players tend to come at a premium so can anyone recommend any bargain gems?

Getting the most from your staff
in Good Player & Team Guide
Posted
I was just wondering what people look for when recruiting new staff and what responsibilities they allow them to have.
I am a long-time player of the FM (and CM series) but I don't feel I've ever taken full advantage of my staff.
Some examples I would have where I've given them roles but I don't feel it has paid off:
Director of Football
- Recruiting players (mainly u23). Most players are very average and are never likely to play in my first team.
Technical Director
- Recruitment of staff but again they seem to recruit very average staff and when contracts run out, weaken my backroom staff.
Head of Youth Development
- Find loan deals and individual training for those below the first team but again I don't notice anything major improvement-wise.
Now, am I not utilising my staff for the proper responsibilities or are some of these positions simply not required and I could save my clubs on my saving money? How do you set up your backroom staff and what responsibilities do you give them?
