Genuinely interested if other people are finding the game playable with the current match engine. I found the constant 6 or 7 goal scorelines completely immersion breaking. The weird freak outs players have with interactions also kill the game. It's absolutely fine with a beta but in a game with an annual release, releasing in this state is disappointing.
I can accept it in a game with a 5-10 year cycle where things start rough and are the iterated on. With a yearly release though we're paying full price for a game that has a 12 month life span and now I'm expected to wait a couple of those months to be able to actually play it and for various new systems to work as advertised.
For me SI either need to have a longer BETA process (even if it's closed) to iron out kinks for a more functional release or move more to a model of buying the game once and then paying for modular content like database, match engines, transfer system and training updates.
Obviously the current system is probably working for SI financially and that's up to them to, but I for one will be voting with my wallet next year if it's the same.

Try the DLF on attack duty. Leads the line really well in FM 22

This is a bug. Happens every match for me my own players stamina updates at the bottom of the screen but if you don't move from the formation screen for the opposition then it doesn't update. Just switch views and go back to their formation and it will update

Unless you're a top team cut some instructions that encourage playing out from the back:
No Play out from the back
Don't distribute to centre-backs
Keeper Take less risks
Pass into space can work to exploit the gaps they leave with their pressing. Make sure you have at least two players making forward runs up top and maybe one or two support duty players roaming for out balls
If you are lacking quality then hoofing it to a Target Man / Wide target man with runners nearby can work well
I like to start quite conservative and against these teams and then second half when I can see them tiring up the mentality and even counter press and can often get a late winner

I'm noticing players age 24/25 still making good progress on their stats. Seems like they're peaking at 26 (as it should be) rather than 21. Great change to previous versions.

2 hours ago, Experienced Defender said:No need to do that, unless you want to change the style of play as well.
P.S: Your English is obviously not good and hence difficult for me to understand everything you say.
You write a lot of really helpful comments in this forum @Experienced Defender I'm sure you didn't mean it to, but this comes across as very harsh on the OPs English. It's a multinational forum and comments like that don't seem very healthy. You might be a polyglot, but personally, if I could write a post in a second language as clearly as the OP did, I'd be very happy.

I beat them home and away with a first season Newcastle. Their aggressive press and attacking full backs leave acres of room out wide for quick counters. Played a deep lying forward to drop back and collect the outball and play in an attacking wide midfielder and an IWs and it seemed to do the the trick.
I didn't deviate from my usual mid block and more urgent press after getting tonked by man u and Chelsea when I tried to play deeper. Obviously a lot of rng involved but definitely possible.

I've had a few players around 24/25 make big improvements when I've brought them into a higher league. In my last save with Ipswich Town I brought in a 24 year-old German striker who'd been back-up at his Bundesliga team getting 6 or 7 seven appearances a season. He had some decent stats but nothing too impressive but the scouts indicated he had a star and a half to grow. I didn't expect to see much growth out of him but brought him in as a back-up to my striker based on his current level.
An injury to my main striker got him his first team spot and with regular games in the championship he started to grow quite a bit. Got promoted the next season and he started to explode in the premiership and filled out his ponential. Ended up with 21 goals and made team of the season.
I think if you can give players more game time and / or game time at a higher level, and they have a decent personality, you can quite reliably get some growth out of players in their mid-20s

Sounds pretty realistic to me, especially if you're managing one of the Manchester teams.

Is it no longer possible to manage under-18s yourself?
I'm in preseason at the moment. I have taken control over under-18s training, touchline shouts and opposition instructions in the responsibilities tab. I can't see any other options to take control, but all tactics for the under-18s are greyed out. The under-18s manager has responsibility for friendlies, and there is no option to take this for myself in the responsibilities tab.
Will I get control of tactics once the main season starts?
Do I need to fire my under-18s manager to take complete control.
I want to make sure under-18s players are played in new positions they're retraining for. If anyone has another way to do this that wouldn't involve playing all your matches that would be good.

Do we know if there is likely to be any further update to the match engine on the 2020 edition, or is what we have now likely to be the final version?

The combination of attacking mentality, high tempo and counter would probably explain a lack of posession. You're telling them to launch quickly pass to goal at every opportunity.
If you want to play counter attacking football then don't worry about posession and maybe lower the defensive block.
If you want to dominate posession, maybe at least try lowering tempo a notch and unticking counter.

On the tactics screen there is a 2 and 3 tab next to the name of your tactic. You can add extra tactics to these. Only one at a time can be set as the primary trained tactic.

Someone earlier mentioned cities skyline being in a worse state but you know that game will be supported for years.
