Thank you very much. Yes, the switch from bars to labels adds considerably more guessing, unfortunately. It's a horrible interface.

You can certainly have a successful tactic with gaps.

In this type high-pressing, possession style, you don't want big gaps. That's my personal preference, anyway. You want everyone working together as a unit, contributing to pressing and possession.

Certain styles, particularly counter or defensive, you actually do want gaps. Whilst you do still want the team to be one unit, you do still need to score goals. Control, Attack and Overload all have their own increasingly intense defensive strategy - pressing. However a Defensive mentality doesn't have any attacking strategy so you need to build it in with duties.

For example, probably the most famous defensive side in the world:

Huge gaps, from 2-15. However I'd still expect this to be one of the most solid, compact defensive systems I could come up with (with the caveat that it actually scores some goals too).

I'd try to minimise gaps between a player and the guy ahead of him. For example, DR -> MR or DC -> MC but as you can see that's not too much of a problem.

It's difficult to answer the question about your left back without seeing the player and the set up on the whole, but it doesn't sound too much of a problem. Personally I don't like defensive wingbacks very much (only used a few times); mainly because I often use my wingbacks for width or providing extra numbers in midfield.

interesting what you say about brazil. Are still thinking of a save in brazil? also have you thought of setting up a feeder club there maybe?

Something I've noticed is the quality of newgens coming through in South America so it'd be interesting to try a save in Brazil or Argentina and be able to start bringing them through before 18 due to the transfer restriction.

I've run saves in Brazil before, and the long season facilitates youth development very well but my concern is running out of challenge without competing in the Champions League.

As for the deep-lying forward vs complete forward, @axehan1 nails it. Play a bit further forward to create space for my 10 but also roam and hold up the ball.

Brazil would be interesting, but I also agree about the lack of top level club competition. Which side would you pick?

The 4-2-3-1 looks interesting. I love the simplicity. I notice you switched from a Deeplying Forward to Complete Forward. I wondered what's the thinking behind that?

Ozil - following from @denen123s question about centre backs, I notice you've gone for Ball Playing Defenders. What made you go for that change? elsewhere on the forums the role has been criticised a lot for long balls?

Great thread!  Theres something very Sir Alex Ferguson about the way you structured the club, developing the academy and the domestic transfer strategy.

You were also ahead of the game with Felix as he's one of the best young players in Europe now. Have you thought about trying him in a similar role to real life?
